I am having a problem with connecting to SQL Server 2005 database from Office Business Scorecard Manager 2005 (the connection string i am using is: provider=SQLOLEDB;Data source=server_name; Initial catalog=database_name). But the connection failed. Would please any experts here shed me any light on what is the problem and how to fix it then? As there is no any forum for Office Business Scrorecard manager 2005. Therefore I post my thread here as it is related to the connection to SQL Server 2005 database engine, thought here is the best place for this question.
Thank you very in advance for your kind advices and help. And I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Is it possible to connect SQL Sever 2005 Express from SQL Sever 2000 Enterprise Manager? Tried to connect but got the error message "must use SQL Server management tools to connect this sever"
I installed Visual Studio 2005 Professional then after that was installed and running, I tried to install the the SQL Server 2005 Developer's Edition which installed but I do not get the SQL Server 2005 Studio Manager. I have remove and reinstalled but it never gets installed. Any ideas?
Ok I just installed VS 2005 Pro with that it asked me to install SQL 2005 and I said yes. Now I can't find the Enterprise Manager to create a database --weired-- All I see is configuration tools under SQL Server 2005. Am I missing something here? Thanks.
I just downloaded SQL 2005 Enterprise Edition and I cannot find Enterprise Manager, which is a feature of SQL 2000. I do not know how to create a database, a table, etc without it. How do I do get enterprise manager.
This is going to be a very newbie question. :) I am just wondering if there is anything that provides a GUI inferface to manage MS SQL? (Like PHPAdmin for MySQL..)
Hi, I am new to Sql Server 2005. I have worked previously in Sql Server 2000. I want to know if Enterprise Manager exists in Sql Server 2005. If yes, then where? Regards,ap.
Ive received a .bak file of our company db from our hosting company and would like to import it into the SQL 2005 Express machine however, Ive never done this before using 2005. Previously with SQL 2000, I used the enterprise manager to view/import data into the database but Im unable to find this feature with 2005.
I just go a new job where I work with Point of Sale machines and I'm having a hard time figuring SQL 2005 out. When I was in school we were taught using SQL 2000. Some of our POS (Point of Sale) machines are moving over to using SQL 2005 Express and I am having the hardest time figuring all this out. All be it I haven't use SQL in a good while but I still remember how to administer SQL 2000 with Enterprise manager. Am I missing something or what's the deal hear.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Best regards,

Hi,I can't seem to connect to SQL 2005. When I open Configuration Manager, these is no information in any of the items in the tree.I checked that WMI was configured correctly at:http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms188690.aspxI can't see any instances at all here. However, when I use Management Studio I CAN connect to an instance of SAL2000 and see databases I have previously defined.I'm running WIN 2003 with SQL 2005 standard and login as Administrator. SQLbooks on line don't seem to have anything to say about this. How can I get SQL Server Management Studio to 'see' the SQL 2005 databaseengine so I can create tables? I *think* its running because there is the'sqlservr.exe' process running, and during installation there is no issues.I had SQL2000 server running fine on the windows 2003 box. I then installedSQL 2005 Express. They both worked together fine. I then uninstalled SQL2005 Express and installed SQL 2005 Server. But when I open SQL ServerManagement Studio, I can only connect to the SQL 2000 engine. In the Objectexplorer, it says v8.0.2039 (which I think is SQL 2000 Server, because I cansee the existing SQL 2000 databases).Any help is greatly appreciated...Jack.
I am installing Sql Server 2005 on top of WindowsSBS 2003 and VS 2005. After I finish installing it I cannot see where the enterprise manager is. Basically I only get Microsoft Sql Server COnfiguration tools. Am I doing something wrong or this is the way it is suppose to be? I had installed all the features from SQL Server 2005. I appreciate any help!
I am having problems when I enable transactions on a container and run my SSIS package on a workstation (as opposed to running it directly on the SQL Server). I have created a simple package consisting of four tasks
Hi I have been attempting to bring up the SQL Server Report Manager and have run into a problem. I am working with a named instance of SQL Server 2005 This is the URL that I have entered
We recently upgraded to Version 7.0 and the Enterprise Manager on the client is not showing the database size or the information in regards to the last backups. Has anyone else experienced this that can offer a solution?
I am trying to solve this problem for the past 1.5 weeks and it is driving me crazy :(
I can't connect to my SQL database using Enterprise Manager, Query Analyzer, Visual Studio 2003 .NET or a .aspx that I created for testing.. it runs perfectly on my domain but it doesnt work on my computer, on the browser I get this message: SQL Server unavailable or access denied. It is the same message I get when I try connecting to my db using EM, QA, VS.NET etc :(
I can ping my sql domain, so I know I have access to it and it is working.. I can successfully connect to my personal SQL server running on my machine. (SQL Server Personal Edition running on Windows XP )
I tried doing everything I could,
I already selected TCP/IP as my client only protocol; I tried installing the lastest MDAC (v 2.8); I tried every other port on my TCP/IP client setup like 14333 or 11433 or 11143 etc; I tried every other port on the alias I set for my sql address; I tried downloading the evaluation version of MS SQL2000 and updating it to SP3; I tried reinstalling several times my MS SQL2000 (I use the personal edition on my windows XP) and updating it to SP3; I tried connecting to my sql address domain and directly to its IP; And I tried a lot more resolutions that I can't remember right now, but it didn't work :(
I've been searching all forums/google etc looking for someone with my problem but I still didnt, everyone who had a problem connecting to their DB using EM or QA resolved it by doing "this or that", I did exactly the same "this or that" on my computer/config and it didn't resolve my problem. :(
What am I doing wrong? I can't connect to my database from my personal computer :(
I have never used enterprise manager before, so I don't know if it is a problem on my personal computer or on my sql server address on internet.. Is there anyway to find a free test ms sql database with like 1mb just to try and find out if I can connect to a sql database at all using EM or if the problem is here on my computer?
I cannot seem to connect to this Instance locally which was i able toin the past. I can connect to the instance from out side. The instanceis running and the DBs in the instance are available and usedsuccessfully by the applications but i cannot connect to the instanceusing the enterprise manager.the error i get isSQL Server does not exist or access deniedrubeel
I am trying to configure a connection manager for a database that is still using SQL Server 6.5 But it is not working properly. I put the server name, user name and pass word, I select the Native OLE DBMicrosoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server as my provider.
When I click Test Connection it says the connection is fine but then the drop down list for the list of databse names hows nothing!
1. So do I use that free tool SQL tool SQL Server Management Studio Express with the real version of SQL 2005? I do not see any program like enterprise manager that sql 2000 came with
2. We use Crystal reports 8.0 now. I noticed a new verison of crystal reports and also SQL reporting tools. But I am confused how the pricing works.. and which would cost more to use on production.. anyone can explain this ?
I have presently installed on my local computer Enterprise Manager for access to our remote sql server. May I install sql server 2005 express and sql server management studio express on my local computer without causing conflicts with Enterprise Manager?
I'm looking for a little help on a strange problem, used Business Contact Manager 2007 Database Tool to create a shared database in SQL Server 2005 on a server on the LAN, placed the database in the default instance of MSSQLSERVER then used the database tools to restore a 2003 BCM database to the newly created database in SQL. Everything worked as it should and I verified the database existed and was populated with data and all the permissions were set correctly to access the database. Then I loaded 2007 Business Contact Manager on a workstation on the LAN and attempted to use the wizard to connect to the remote database. I keep receiving errors that the database cannot be found. I have used the SQLCMD (Sqlcmd €“S €śtcp:erverNameinstanceName, portNumber€?) to verify access to the server and named instance and can connect with no problem, so it appears that would eliminate any firewall (which I turned off) problem or permission problem on the SQL Server. This is a connection between a Vista computer and a Server 2003 domain controller. DNS appears to work without a problem as a ping from the Vista machine by server name yields the correct IP. I have several databases running on the sequel server and have no problem accessing them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Everybody,I use MS SQL server 2000 enterprise manager on a windows server 2003.I created a new database in enterprise manager, and try to restore the new database from a .bak file. I went to ---->restore database. I checked "from device" and select the right path to the .bak file. Then I click ok, but there is an error pop up." tend to override existing database", so I went to --->option, and checked "force override existing database". then I click ok, but get an error look like this http://ewwa.lo7.net/error.JPGI thought it was a problem with my .bak file. So I try to use another .bak file which I am sure it is 100% good. It prompt the restore is sucessfully. But when I checked the db, there nothing there(No tables).I think there must be something wrong with my enterprise manager's configuration.Do you know what happen with my enterprise manager? Thank you a lot in advance:)!!
I know how to create a database using enterprise manager in sql server 7 or 2000. But i want to create a database where i have to set the unicode as UTF8 for the whole database. is it possible? if yes, how can i do that.
Hi, I hope someone can help me! I changed the TCP port that the default instance of SQL 2005 x64 SP1 is listening on and now SQL server won't start as the port is being used - no problem I say to myself, I'll just change it again, however I can't!
My problem is that I can not change the TCP Port back again using Configuration Manager - no matter what values I put in, after a restart of the instance it comes up with this in the IP Addresses tab for TCP/IP Properties and SQL Server won't start:
IP1 Active Yes Enabled No IP Address aaa.bbb.ccc.111 TCP Dynamic Ports TCP Port 0
IP2 Active Yes Enabled No IP Address aaa.bbb.ccc.222 TCP Dynamic Ports TCP Port 0
IP3 Active Yes Enabled No IP Address aaa.bbb.ccc.333 TCP Dynamic Ports TCP Port 0
IP4 Active Yes Enabled No IP Address 10.1.1.1 TCP Dynamic Ports TCP Port 0
IP5 Active Yes Enabled No IP Address 127.0.0.1 TCP Dynamic Ports TCP Port 0
IPALL TCP Dynamic Ports 2020 TCP Port 2020
Interestingly, the ip address that the server is listening on aaa.bbb.ccc.444 is not reported in the list of IP addresses in the configuration manager for this instance, yet it is when I view the available IP addresses for the other two instances - is this significant?
I have tried failing to the other node, changing it there, changing it at the console and also while logged onto the the virtual machine remote desktop, rebooting both nodes, etc, etc. There are two other instances on this cluster that are still working fine but I hvae not attempted to change the TCP ports they listen on.
I used the same method to change this default instance as I did for a named instance on a similarly configured cluster and it worked fine. How to fix this?
Regards, Mike

I have just installed SQL 2005 enterprise and every apeared to install ok. But using SQL config manager nothing is showing up under SQL 2005 Services tab.
I have SQL Server 2005 Express installed on a windows server 2003 standard edition. I have configured the windows firewall to allow exceptions for sqlservr.exe and sqlbrowser.exe. I have enabled remote and local connections using tcp/ip & Named Pipes through the Sql Server Surface Area Connection utility. I am able to telnet into the server with: telnet <server ip> <1433>.
Here is the strange part: I am able to connect to the Sql Server remotely from a development machine via Sql Server Management Studio Express, but I am unable to connect to the Sql Server from the same development machine by registering it in Sql Server Enterprise Manager...Is it possible to register SQL Express through Enterprise Manager?
When registering the SQL Express DB in Enterprise Manager I tried both just the (IP Address) of the server and the (IP AddressSQLExpress) as the server/host but I am getting the following errors from enterprise manager:
Just the (IP Address) as the server/host: Invalid Connection. ConnectionOpen( Invalid Instance())
(IP AddressSQLEXPRESS) as the server/host: Sql Server does not exist or access denied. ConnectOpen(Connect()).
Any idea why I can€™t register/mount the instance remotely in Enterprise Manager but I can in Sql Server Management Studio Express?
We are running SQL 2000 SP3 on a Win2K server with multiple user databases. Our current problem is the ability of users to view the database objects via the native tools.
Example: User Bob Bob has the following rights: DB A – datareader/datawriter DB B – datareader/datawriter DB C – datareader DB D – datareader DB E – datareader/datawriter
The user has no builder rights or server roles.
In Enterprise Manager, the user can not see any databases. In Query Analyzer, the user can only see DB A, B, and C. Anyone seen this problem before and/or have suggestions?
