SQL 2012 :: Access A Movie On DVR Through A Report?
Apr 6, 2015
I have a database and a dvr that has movies that correspond to the data in the database. Is there a way to run a report and then by selecting a record in the report access the movie that pertains to that record?

Below query tells us if guest user is enabled or disabled in a particular database
SELECT dp.name, CASE perms.class WHEN 0 THEN 'Yes' ELSE 'No' END AS 'Enabled'
FROM sys.database_principals dp
LEFT JOIN (SELECT grantee_principal_id, class FROM sys.database_permissions
WHERE class = 0 AND type = 'CO' AND state = 'G') AS perms
ON dp.principal_id = perms.grantee_principal_id
WHERE dp.name = 'guest';
Do we have a query which can also add the database name to above query output? The output must have columns with data against Name,Enabled,Database name

SQL server 2005 express reporting problem.
error message:
This feature "remote access to report data sources and/or the report server database" is not supported in this edition of reporting service
I got this error message when I try to connect to database hosted in another PC running SQL server 2000.
Is it true that SQlL server Express can only use Local Database Engine to host the database?

Is there any way to get more information for when IAuthorizationExtension::CheckAccess fails to grant access to a report item for the current user? Specifically, it would be useful to know:
1. URL of attempted report
2. IP address of user agent
3. Identity of current user
4. Date/Time of the failed attempt

I need to prevent domain and local administrators from having full control over our report manager. (I want them to be assigned permissions just like everyone else, some reports they can see other reports they can not.)
How can I accomplish this? I tried going into Report Manager -> Site Settings -> Configure Site Wide Security and re-assigning BUILTINAdministrators to the System User role instead of the System Administrator role. (A different set of report manager admins was given the system administrator role).
However, it appears that members of the BUILTINAdministrators group still have full control in Report Manager.

Hello,
I'm using Reporting Services to render a text (stored in sql as varchar(max)). The text is all plain text, with some lines having trailing spaces.
Source text file i've imported to SQL via SSIS:
CLIENT: 10055
STATEMENT 2007
DATE:1002993
THIS IS THE OTHER STATEMENT
COLUMN1 COLUMN2 COLUMN 3
TRY THIS
*Note the trailing spaces on the line before 'STATEMENT 2007'.
I've designed a report using the Report Project in VS2005 to retrieve this text via a stored procedure. When I test the report using the 'Preview' tab in the IDE, it looks good
CLIENT: 10055
STATEMENT 2007
DATE:1002993
THIS IS THE OTHER STATEMENT
COLUMN1 COLUMN2 COLUMN 3
TRY THIS
But when I deploy the report and run it using URL Access:
CLIENT: 10055
STATEMENT 2007
DATE:1002993
THIS IS THE OTHER STATEMENT
COLUMN1 COLUMN2 COLUMN 3
TRY THIS
On all lines with trailing spaces, they (the trailing spaces) have been removed. This is affecting my formatting of some reports and statements. We really want to use the report viewer as it has built in paging, print and export capabilities.
Why does it look okay in VS2005 but different in Report Viewer via URL Access and Report Manager?
Note: When I export as PDF, it looks okay.
The stored procedure I use to return the data is a CLR Hosted assembly as below:
Code Snippet
Partial Public Class StoredProcedures
<Microsoft.SqlServer.Server.SqlProcedure()> _
Public Shared Sub GetPagedDocument(ByVal inText As SqlString)
Dim dr As SqlDataReader
Dim row As New SqlDataRecord(New SqlMetaData("RowText", SqlDbType.Text))
Dim cmd As New SqlCommand("select cast(doc as varchar(max)) as 'DOCTEXT' from testdoc WHERE id='" + inText + "'")
Dim cn As New SqlConnection("context connection=true")
cn.Open()
cmd.Connection = cn
SqlContext.Pipe.SendResultsStart(row) 'initialise the resultset to be returned
dr = cmd.ExecuteReader
'If no records in result set, return.
If Not dr.HasRows Then
row.SetString(0, "There is no document to display or you do not have permission to view the document.")
SqlContext.Pipe.SendResultsRow(row)
SqlContext.Pipe.SendResultsEnd()
' SqlContext.Pipe.Send("There is no document to display.")
Return
End If
'Read rows in the result set
dr.Read()
'Get the entire text
Dim docText As String = dr.Item("DOCTEXT")
'debug
row.SetString(0, docText)
SqlContext.Pipe.SendResultsRow(row)
SqlContext.Pipe.SendResultsEnd()
Return
'end debug
End Sub
End Class
Any help will be appreciated.

I am setting up the SQL2005 reporting service to let users build their own reports on the web. I'll provide them with pre-built report models. We have concern with SQL database performance by allowing users to execute huge reports. The problem that I have is: If I give the users permissions to build report they'll have access to the report's Properties | Execution page, which allows them to disable the report execution timeout. Is there a way for me to allow them build reports while restrict them to access the report execution timeout settings?
Please advise. Many thanks.

I have search all around the net, trying to get a solution for my application under MS Access 2003, I developed a database that generates a report, this report will need to be accessed trough the internal network, perhaps we don't want any user to have direct access to the database itself, and also we don't want to have to manually posted the report in the shared folder, we want to set up this to be done automatically and the end user won't need to have MS access in their pc, perhaps exporting the report as an spreadsheet instead. I try by using Macros within Access but this will only work manually from the .mdb file.
I also check what options do I have if I use Javascript but I don't think it will work either, since I'm not using Crystal Reports.
Can you please provide me with some guidance, if this is actually possible from a database/report under MS Access 2003.
Thank you in advance,

Version SQL 2012.
Exec sp_configure remote access running values is "1" by default. If set the value "0", what will be impact on both server and client side?
1. Client side: remote access option value is "1", it mean to allows executing stored procedure in remote client side by using SSMS. server itself does working all SP which was passed by through application(remote application server even SQL port enabled between application DB and App servers).
Impact: value is "0" developer does not able execute SP their Client SSMS side after connecting established in DB server.
2. Server side
Impact: Does it working Linked server if value is "0?

Are there ways in SQL server to deny connecting to a instance? Basically i am looking for a way where data is accessed only through application , even the DBA's shouldn't have access to the data though they are sysadmins? Someone told me this is possible in SQL 2014? This is only for individual access, i know i can put some encryption in app layer.

I have one table used to maintain information on Service Events.Each record contains a Repair, Maint, and Battery checkbox(bound/boolean). Any one of these fields may be checked or left empty.Ex. REPAIR=True, MAINT=False, BATTERY=TrueI want to generate ONE report that lists all the REPAIRS, then listsall the MAINT, and then lists all the BATTERY events. One group afterthe other in the same report. Because (ex. REPAIR and BATTERY) mayboth be true in the same record, the record will appear 2 times in thereport, once in the REPAIR group and once in the BATTERY group.I am not sure how to approach this. I'm new to SQL. I' m using MSAccessSQL.I Tried the following code, but the results are not sorting properlyand not grouped.SELECT * FROM [TABLE1] WHERE [REPAIR]UNION ALLSELECT * FROM [TABLE1] WHERE [MAINT]UNION ALLSELECT * FROM [TABLE1] WHERE [BATTERY]

If I log on to the SQL server and using IE go to http://sql1/reportServer I see the reportServer webpage just fine.However if I go to another server in the same domain and do exactly the same thing (same user account, same URL) I get a windows box asking for username and password. It doesn't matter what username I use I still get prompted for username and password.
I've looked in the sys.dm_exec_connection and it says NTLM so I am guessing that SPN are not the cause.
We have another SQL instance on the same SQL server and you can reach the reporting webpage just fine no matter where you are.
The only thing I have noticed different is the working instance has login for DPM$ (being a DPM instance) but the default instance does not have a SQL1$ entry. Don't know if that is important.

SQL Server service accounts; the default (and recommended) service account is NT ServiceMSSQLServer virtual service account - which is shown as MSSQLSERVER locally - if you want to assign permissions to a local location. Fine, that's OK, works.
For network resources, as far as I understand it (or think I do, anyway), a virtual service on a box is made visible to the network using the <Domain><Computer>$ credential. Eg for box Bimble on Domain Wimble - if I want to give access to a directory on backupServer1, I simply assign rights to WimbleBimble$ and SQL Server should get those rights.
This, or so I thought, should allow SQL Server access to that location. The thing is, when trying to access that location, it's throwing an access denied error. But it works fine with LocalSystem.
Do I need to do some additional configuration to allow the Virtual Service account to be shown via <Domain><Computer>$ ?

How to grant users the right to use the DECRYPTBYKEY function to decrypt the data. I have seen some people talk about using a stored procedure or view to surface the decrypted data, but how would you implement that when trying to pull back a single dataset? It would be best to use an inline function to allow the row to be returned decrypted, but opening the keys isn't allowed in the function construct.
So, I know I have to be missing something, but how do you let basic users (db_reader types) decrypt the data they need based on a custom database role? What do I need to give the user permission to?
My setup is simple:
- I have my SMK
- I have a DMK encrypted by password
- I have my self signed certificate
- I have my symmetric Key encrypted by the certificate

The scenario is:

I guess the real question at this point for me, is if I have reports - can I have them cached in pdf format and then how are they accessed with a url ?

Hi,
I created a report in another project and it is loading through the web server. Now I want to access that report through a
web project that is using the reportviewer control. Now how do I setup the reportviewer to access that existing report on web server? I don't think you would have to have the report actually added to the web project do you? When I hit this page no report comes up.
Here is MicroSofts ReportViewer Control defined in my web form:
Code Snippet
<rsweb:ReportViewer ID="ReportViewer1" runat="server" Height="540px"
Width="742px">
<ServerReport DisplayName="Employees" ReportPath="/Reports1/Employees"
ReportServerUrl="http://localhost/ReportServer$SQLExpress" />
</rsweb:ReportViewer>
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks,

I can access to the reports from http://localhost and http://servername/ but how do I access reports I've created from outside of the domain? Does SSRS needed to be installed on an server with IIS and SQL Server 2005 that we can get to from outside? Please help! Thanks.

As a database developer, I have so many databases that I "own" scattered across various servers that it''s getting difficult to remember where all of my databases reside. It doesn't work that the DBAs have taken to some very hard to remember server naming conventions.
I was going to create aliases via the configuration manager, but it turns out the DBAs overwrite my entries each night with THEIR aliases and they won't add any for my use.
So I decided to simply add some records to my host file so that instead of having to connect to "SERVER-AD_DADF-DAFDASS" I can just use "CustomerA".
This solution seems to work until I tried to access a linked server. If I connect to the main server via it's actual name, I can hit the remote/linked server with no issue. However, if I connect to the main server using it's alias, connection to the remote/linked server fails with: Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON'.
The linked server is set up to use current security context and I'm not logging into the alias any differently that I do when using the actual server name.
