I had a failover occur last night on my AlwaysOn AG, the SQL accounts had to have the passwords re-entered in order to connect to the databases?
1. I checked the SIDS, they match
2. both accounts have sysadmin rights, I know, I don't like it either but the apps will not run without it.
3. Only a few people have access to the SQL servers, right now, they all deny changing the password,

I have a sql server database user with Password must change, and I get this error when i use ODBC connection wizard,

where would the windows shows up to change it similary we do when we connect through Management studio and provide new password.
Any idea.
Any idea why this happened and what do i have to do to reslove it?

Setting up a test AlwaysOn Availability Group for one database.
However, whenever I restore the database to the replica server and join it, it ends up with my user account as the owner of the database.
Obviously I do not want a user account as the database owner, but since it is read-only I cannot modify it directly. If I were able to fail the AG over to the replica, I could change the owner then, but I cannot due to business requirements. this AG is to essentially serve as a replacement to log shipping.
I tried doing the backups and restores using EXECUTE AS login = 'sa', and yet it still shows up as my user account.
We are facing issue on one of our databases on Availability Group replica. FYI, please refer the below messages we are receiving. Moreover, the errors don't happen consistently for the specified user.

i'm using the Enterpirse library logger to write logs into a database.
When choosing connection string i choose the database i want in the "connection properties" dialog box and
push 'Test connection' button.
everything goes well.
then i open the SQL Server Management studio express and connect to the databse to check some things,
from that point on , when i push the 'Test Connection' button in the Enterprise library i get the error:
"cannot open user default database. Login failed. login failed for user My'server/MyuserName'"
even when i close the sql server manager , it is still stuck - the connection test doesn't work anymore....
it only work when i restart the computer.
why ?

If you guys and gals can't straighten out this mess, you can't expect custom solutions with custom web parts. So pay attention for your own good. Yes, SPS 2007 is what this is all about. I've created simpe web parts and deployed them, same VS 2005, but I need local development and debugging for more complex stuff. I'm really disappointed that you have no solution for this problem.
I've seen other posts on this, but the result seems to be the same: if you fix it, it's by accident, not by design.
1. I created a blank ASP.NET web site
2. I added a web part manager
3. I added a web part zone
I get the error described above. I have no idea why SQL Server settings are so screwed up.
I've tried all the stuff in the other posts - security settings, command line installation, etc. None of those worked.
The default template(s) don't copy anything into App_Data, nor create an empty folder. I don't know why that is. I have other web sites working just fine, but they use remote SQL databases, or local ones I created, and didn't need profile management (no forms authentication, no web parts, no web zones).
I've also started out with a local database, using SQL Authentication, later moving it to a remote server, and never had any problems. The SQL Server developer edition and Express seem to work just fine. I can also debug stored procs when the .mdf is in App_Data. So the problem isn't one of connectivity.
What would cause the default screw-up? This would seem to point from all directions to a problem with Visual Studio (2005)? The installation is defalt - perhaps some extras included (copy local), but nothing unusual. AJAX for ASP.net is installed, but not used in the above "default web site" trial. Likewise Syncfusion's tools, which work fine on other developer workstations at this same location, all of which are from the same image (purchased at the same time & imaged). That web parts work on other boxes, running all the same management tools (anti-virus, remote sys admin/sms etc.) makes none of those suspect.
I think Microsoft needs to have a clean problem solution and publish it. SP1 certainly doesn't fix it. What's worse is the stupid, lame error message. "I can't open the default database". Well, what did you try? What do you think the default is? What settings are you using? Why is there no debugging information other than the usual worthless trace information showing it's all deep within the ProviderBase and SqlClient namespace code? How is that supposed to be helpful?
If anyone has anything solid, not guesses, I'd like to know.
This is my first time to deploy an asp.net2 web site. Everything is working fine on my local computer but when i published the web site on a remote computer i get the error "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in retrieving the user's local application data path. Please make sure the user has a local user profile on the computer. The connection will be closed" (only in pages that try to access the database)

Now with SQL 2005 some users can't logon because SQL 2005 passwords are case-sensitive.
Can SQL 2005 be configured so that passwords are NOT case sensitive???

View 4 Replies View RelatedI apologize in advance if this has been posted but if you get the attached error "The record has been changed by another user...", we've discovered that this error can occur if you have a SQL Server Data Type of "Float" and also a "Text" Data Type in the same table. We discovered that it only happens on some records though and I am not sure why this is so. The solution is apparently to add a TimeStamp Data Type to the SQL Server table which does seem to fix the problem. If anyone has any insight on any other solutions (we cannot change the Data Types) or the reasoning behind this error, I would greatly appreciate the feedback.

This problem started happening after re-linking the table to MS Access as new columns have been added on the SQL Server table. We tried re-starting the MS Access,re-linking the table again,giving all the permissions to the user on the table etc. Also, no other user is accessing the table at the same time..Any help?
Error message in MS Access:
This record has been changed by another user since you started editing it. If you save the record, you will overwrite the changes the other user made.
Copying the changes to the clipboard will let you look at the values the other user entered, and then paste your changes back in if you decide to make changes.

The following error is recieved when updating a record using access 97 and odbc driver to an oracle database.

I am trying to create an application that writes data to a SQL database (studio express).
The application works fine but as soon as I open the table with the SQL server management studio express the application does not work any more displaying the following message:
€śCannot open user default database. Login failed. Login failed for user€¦€?
If I siwtch off and on the computer the problem disappear till the table will be open with the database management studio express!!!!!
How can I solve this annoying problem?

I set up backups to run on the primary and I understand that you can set up backups to run on both the primary and secondary servers but the secondary will fail. Is there a way I can stop the secondary server from sending out error messages about failed backups? Is it possible to script it so that the server looks at whether it's primary or secondary and turns on or off alerts based on that?

Here isthe landscape.
2 nodes PROD failover cluster (running once instance)
2 nodes DR failover cluster (running 2 instances - DR and PRE-PROD)
Both clusters are in different geographies.
PRE-PROD can be editable. So out of scope of Always On.
One instance on PROD -> DR of the other box. [Want to achive thru AlwaysON]
Now my Question:
1) Do i need to have all the 4 nodes in same failover cluster group? If yes, then this would become MultiSubnet cluster Or Is there any way those 2 diffrerent failover clusters (one DR and one PROD) can be part of AlwaysOn.
2) Can i use the clustered disks as in the above landscape for always on?
