SQL 2012 :: Log Shipping - Secondary Database Path Showing Wrong Location?
Mar 17, 2014I've configured log shipping to use for DR purposes. I'm concerned that the physical location of the secondary is mis-reported by SQL Server Management Studio.
Viewing the secondary location (with Studio DB_name Properties Files) shows the path of the primary DB (I expected it to show the path of the secondary).
This SQL command shows the correct/actual paths of both primary and secondary DB's when run on their host servers.
SELECT name, physical_name AS CurrentLocation, state_desc FROM sys.master_files
Is this just cosmetic?
Here is an Example of how the Studio shows the incorrect path for the secondary.
Example:
(Primary) servername=prodSrv, DBname=aquaDB, Actual_Path=G:aquaDB, SQL-studio-Properties-Path=G:AquaDB, sys.master_files Path=G:AquaDB,

SQL 2012 :: Transactional Replication - Fire A Job / Sproc After Applying Records To Subscriber
Feb 28, 2014I have a transactional replication environment that creates subscribers on another server as a staging area for an ETL process to a data warehouse application on a 3rd server which is the report repository. Currently the ETL process runs every 10 minutes and performs it's function across approx 150+ subscriber databases and consolidates it to the data warehouse.
I have an SLA of 2 minutes. I'd like to rework the ETL process (which run as SSIS job at the moment) to be specific to a single database and fire that one ETL proces when changes have been applied to that subscriber database only. Of these 150+ databases generally only about 8-10 are updating the subscriber at any given time per Repl Monitor. I'm thinking that if I only have a few transactions to apply to a single db the ETL would run in seconds dynamically as the subscriber is update.
The issue is how to fire the ETL process upon completion of updates to the subscriber DB? I'm thinking of using SP_Start_job passing the DBID to update the warehouse but unsure whether this is possible but if so where to trigger it.

SQL 2012 :: Deadlocks - Not Showing In Profiler
Feb 24, 2015We have some Deadlock alerts set up in SQL Agent that email us when the performance counter for deadlocks goes above zero. I've used the following script to identify the event file which has deadlock information in there.

where name = 'system_health'
Now that is fine, and we're looking into that (number of deadlocks appear to be 0.5) but out of interest ran a SQL Profiler session to capture the details as well and nothing is showing, I've received a few alerts and the trace file has information in there - but profiler shows absolutely nothing (all deadlock events are captured)

Nov 2, 2015I am working to set up encryption of my database. am trying to implement a process proposed by the DoD Standard Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) and cannot figure it out. I am using SQL 2012 and the requirement is to
A: Run the following to create a certificate:

CREATE CERTIFICATE <'certificate name'>
ENCRYPTION BY PASSWORD = '<'password'>'
FROM FILE = <'path/file_name'>
WITH SUBJECT = 'name of person creating key',

This script did not work – I did not know what file it was referencing and it kept erroring out, so I used my own process as follows

CREATE MASTER KEY ENCRYPTION BY PASSWORD = 'mY_P@$$w0rd'
CREATE CERTIFICATE certificate_name
WITH SUBJECT = 'Certificate for my database'

This also error out, but my questions are the following:
-What would the symmetric key be encrypting?
-The application that is using the database is IIS, so would there be a problem with it communicating with the database?
-Does the key need to be installed on that IIS server?
-Do I need to apply the encryption to the database, column or table.
Merge Replication Error While Applying Snapshot

i am getting the below error while applying running the Synchronization agent for the Subscriber. I have created replication topology with one central server and one subscriber. Here central server has windows server 2003 and subscriber has windows XP. Both are having SQL server 2005. After creating the merge subscriber, i am runnnig the Synchronization agent manually for the first time. While running that i am getting below error. Anybody aware of this error.

SQL 2012 :: 64 Bit Options Not Showing Up In Configuration Manager

After the install I can see only the 32 bit network configuration options in SQL Server Configuration Manager for both versions. Before the install they were available in the 2008 R2 version of the tool.
SQL 2012 :: Job In Rollback Not Showing In Activity Monitor?
Feb 22, 2015We have killed a job which is now in KILLEDROLL BACK state. Job activity monitor is not showing any running jobs but I can see the SPID of that job. When tried to kill again its giving the message ‘command completed successfully‘, not able to get the percentage or time for the roll back to complete.
Another DBA tried to create a snapshot and it was stuck and I believe it was because of this ROLLBACK as both were using same Database.

Sep 15, 2015I have a SQL Server 2012 Standard and needed to fulfill a requirement to set Force Encryption on the Server with a DoD Certificate.
I will be altering my client connections to use Encrypt=True; TrustServerCertificate=True (The client is a .Net Web Application).
The OS is where SQL Server 2012 Standard resides is Windows 2008 R2 DataCenter Service Pack 1 64-bit.
What I am needing to know is where do I get the DoD Certificate from? and Do I just install it on the server where SQL Server resides?

I'm successfully logging into the alphaone database as it shows as "DASAlphaOne,1xxxPport) at the top of the treeview in ssms. I'm logging in as sa and can edit anything.
The issue here is that all the user databases are shown and can even be edited. I created this instance in an effort to hide databases from whoever is not supposed to see.I was expecting a clean instance with only the system databases..Is there something that can be set to keep each instance's databases private into itself?

Nov 3, 2015I have setup ssl encryption for SQL connections by using a self-signed certificate (not the best I know) and setting "Force Encryption" to Yes. Now I am trying to show that the connection is indeed encrypted and I like to see which the ssl-key is used for a connection; preferably the one that I provided. How can I do this? I am just not comfortable trusting the OS or SQL to do what I ask.The query "SELECT encrypt_option FROM sys.dm_exec_connections" Shows incrypted but no extra info.

I have done this succussfully in the past in SQL2008R2/Sharepoin2010 environment but this is my first attempt with SQL2012/Sharepoint2013 and I am not sure how to proceed with troubleshooting.

Apr 1, 2014So I have two steps in my job that check conditions and call RAISERROR to gracefully complete the job if those conditions are met (meaning I only want the final step to run in a specific situation). Works great, except for some reason my messages are not making it into the log. It is appending the SQLSTATE, and a default error instead of anything that I'm putting into RAISERROR.

Apr 28, 2014I came across an issue while migrating from SQL 2005 to SQL 2012 and using AlwaysOn Group. For some strange reason, when ever i connect to the Listener name for each AlwaysOn group, it list all the databases which is on the SQL instance, so i would be able to see databases that is not part of that Availability Group. I am not using default port, so have to put the port after the Name to connect and both Instance and Listener are using different port.
Testing the fail over works fine too, when i perform a manual failover, i can connect to any of the databases in the group from my application with no problem.
Considering that the Listener Port is different to the port which the instance is using?
SQL Server 2012 :: Query Execution Not Showing Up In Profiler Trace
Aug 22, 2014Set up a trace with the events RPC:Completed, SQL:BatchCompleted, SQL:BatchStarting, and SQL:StmtCompleted.
When I issue the statement: SELECT * FROM XyzView there is nothing captured in Profiler. If I script out the view and then execute the select statement that defines the view, it does show up in Profiler.
I've tried adding a lot of the other events, i.e. SP:StmtCompleted and the various other StmtStarting events and the trace still does not capture anything.
Am I capturing the wrong events or is this known behavior? My goal is to see what the overhead is for using a view versus persisting the results of the view as a table and referencing that instead. The view in question is against static data, joins 9 tables, and is referenced a lot.
I can use the stats generated when I execute the select that defines the view but I still find this to be curious behavior so I assume I'm doing something wrong.

VS 2013 - Schema Compare Is Not Applying Changes To Target Database Project
Aug 11, 2015I have created Database projects in VS 2013 using SSDT. I have been mostly successful in creating and building the projects without any errors/warnings.
However for one of the databases in the project, when i do schema compare to apply the changes from a SQL Server Database to a Database Project in VS, code changes are not applied to the database project.
After i select the Update option in Schema compare window, I'm getting the following message
"Target update complete. Press Compere to refresh the comparison."
Even tough the message implies that target database is updated successfully, I do not see the objects i selected in schema compare being added to the target database project.
I see the following warning
"Target update: Could not update script for element 'dbo'"
I have 9 Database projects in the Solution and I'm able to apply changes to 8 of the database projects through schema compare successfully. I get the same warning after schema compare for all database projects.
I have same project level setting for all database projects in the solution. I'm using Visual Studio 2013 Premium Update 5 SQL Server Data Tools 12.0.41012.0
SQL 2012 :: Enabling SSL Encrypted Connections Without Using Force Encryption Option
Apr 1, 2015I have a customer who is looking to encrypt their applications connection to the back-end SQL server. I've gotten a valid certificate for the server from a trusted CA, and it's installed on the server (shows up in Personal certificates in the Certificate MMC when selecting the computer) and I can choose it in the drop down on the certificates tab of the SQL Network protocols properties in Configuration Manager.
Now, my question: If I select the certificate but do NOT enable the "Force Encryption" option, the client will be able to request encryption on their end, and the connection will then be encrypted. If the client (other applications) do NOT request encryption, they will still be able to connect, but their connection will be un-encrypted. URL....
Lastly, I could've swore I had found some information indicating that some methods of establishing a connection to SQL can fail when Force Encryption is enabled, as the method doesn't support SSL encryption.

When I go to the configuration manager, on the FILESTREAM tab has a message:
"A previous FILESTREAM configuration attempt was incomplete.
FILESTREAM may be in an inconsistent state until re-configured."
If I click Enable FILESTREAM and "Apply", I get the following message:
"There was an unknown error applying the FILESTREAM settings. Check the parameters are valid. (0x80070002)"
I also read somewhere to run "EXEC sp_configure", which produces the result:
"filestream access level - 0 2 2 0"
Running "SELECT SERVERPROPERTY ('FilestreamEffectiveLevel');" returns 0.
Reporting Services :: SSRS 2012 - Scatter Chart Isn't Showing All Data Points

There are five data points on there, however the result set I am using has 10 rows (a 'Completed Date' of datetime and a 'Lateness' integer whose values can be positive or negative.
This is the Dataset and the results it produces:

May 3, 2007I created a ransactional publication.
Starting the LogReader Agent produce the error
'Unable to start execution of step 2 (reason: Error authenticating proxy NETRTLSRVSvcSQLLogReader, system error: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.). The step failed.'
This is the result of the SQL Agent Error

We are running SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.3042.00 (Intel X86) in a cluster environment.
If I change the Step 2 of the Agent Job (Type=Replication Transactional-Log Reader) to "Run AS" SQL Agent Service Account , everthing works fine.
There seems to be a problem with the access to the generated proxy/credential
Why it doesn't work with the special SvcSQLLogReader domain Login ?
