I have two tables, customers and appointments.
I want to bulk insert records for a date range and a day of the week.
For example, John Smith has an appointment on every monday for the next three months. How do I accomplish this?
I have to find the records with in a paricular dates(from date and to date). In some cases @FromDate or @ToDate could be null. in the following query, when i am passing values @FromDate and @ToDate and execute the SP i am getting records which are not in the given range.

I've tried using the date trunc function but I'm not sure what the best way to attack this is. My thoughts are I need to somehow select first day of every month + interval 'x days' (but I don't know the syntax).In other words, I want to see

Say I want to return only records with dates that fall within the next 6 months. Is there some straight-forward, simple way of doing so?As of now, I'm explicitly giving it a date 6 months in the future, but I'd like to replace it with some sort of function. This one is making my head hurt! Trying to figure out how to query for records between date range. The records have a start_date and an end_date field. The end_date field maybe null.
For example, say you wanted to see the records of everyone checked into a hotel during a given date range. You need to account for the people that checked in before you @start_date parameter and may check out after your @end_date parameter.
fyi- As for the null end_date field, think of this as they have checked in and not sure when they will checkout yet.
If you have a table that has records which are applicable over a date range, is there a preferred design for dealing with the dates?
A simple example might be an employee table, which might have multiple employees, with each employee have multiple records, each record being applicable over a particular date range.

Ok, I have two parameters - @StartDate and @EndDate. We only care about the date part of these paramters. What I would like to do is create a table with one record for each date between these two values. For example:

I know I could just do a WHILE (@StartDate <= @EndDate) loop and insert records into a temp table but I'm looking to see if there are any new methods/techniques to achieve this with a more simple statement.

I have been looking online at the gaps and islands approach, and it seems to always be referencing a singular field, so i can't find anything which is clear to get my head around it.In the context of a hotel (people checking in and out) I would like to identify how long someone has been staying at the hotel (The Island?) regardless if they checked out and back in the following day.

I've been experiencing difficulty with pulling records using a where clause date range. I'm using this:

I've also tried variations of this without the time portion of the ath_postdate field (of type datetime) , but it still seems to be pulling records from 2009, etc.

I've got a numbers table and I can left join with it but I just get nulls for the missing hours instead of having it as above.....I can't think of a way of repeating the groups for each of the 'missing' hours - other than creating a length insert statement to fill in the gaps....unless that is the only way of doing it.

I need to select the item which process in 2015-04-01 16:40:00 and 2015-04-01 17:30:00. Beside that I need to know how many resource is assigned to process the item in that period of time. I only has the start date is 2015-04-01 16:40:00 and end date is 2015-04-01 17:30:00. How I can select the data from both tables. There is no need for JOIN, just seperate selections.
Another item process time is in 2015-04-01 10:00:00 and 2015-04-04 11:50:59.

I have a csv that contains attendance records that I get daily from a 3rd party grade book solution. I need to import directly into the attend table in our student database.

The file is setup as follows, School Year, school number, student_id, absence date, absence code, course number, section number.
I need to check the student schedule to see if they are scheduled for that class when the import runs. So if they had a schedule change in the middle of the day it won't post attend to a dropped class.
I have done something similar to this before with the way I export teachers out to our grade book. I have it check the master schedule to see if the teacher is teaching at least one class, that way it won't export tutors and office staff to the grade book. I used the script below to do that but not sure who to apply it to a bulk insert.

Secondly I need to check the date of the record and overwrite a record if one already exists for that exact course and section for that student, I need this because if they make changes to a previous day from absence un excused to excused I need to get rid of the unexcused by overwriting it.
One more thing that would be nice but is optional, is there a way to send log of errors on the import via email?
I have a table with EmployeeID, StartDate, and EndDate with a PK of EmployeeID, StartDate. How can I check to see that there's no overlap for StartDate and EndDate for a given employee? That is, on any given day there must only be 1 row for an employee where Getdate() is Between StartDate and EndDate. For an active employee their EndDate is set to 06/06/2079.
I've tried it using Row_Number() with Over() but am returning too many rows indicating overlap when none exists.
Given a Table1 with two columns 'Name' with some N rows of data and another Table2 with one column 'SeqNo' with N rows, each of which contains a unique integer which can be ordered monotonically, I want to do an INSERT into some Table3 with two columns 'Name' and 'SeqNo' such that each INSERT'd row gets one of the unique integers.
E.g. -
Table1 contains 'Fred','Tom','Mary','Larry'
Table2 contains 6000978,6000979,6000980,6000981
INSERT INTO Table3

And I want to get Table3

How can I reference Table2 so that Table2.SeqNo will 'line up' properly? Note that the ordering of the SeqNo values isn't mandatory as long as each SeqNo is assigned to one and only one row.
On edit: Table2 isn't required, it's just the way I started thinking about it. It would be nicer to just have two integer vars, @StartSeqNo = 6000978 and @EndSeqNo = 6000981 for he example above. Either way is fine.
I have a table that stores Terminal ID, Product Name, Cost and Effective Date. I used bulk insert to insert a txt file into a table. It works fine. (see code below) Now, one txt file with column's name at first row and has about 200 columns. There is no table created before. How to code to create a destination table based on first row of the txt file so that bulk insert will work for that txt file?

Really Don't understand this and have run out of hair to pull out.
DTS package whihc has a Bulk Insert Task. The task is populated with its source filename dynamically. It has a format file which is stored locally to the box its running on.
The output file is from a unix box pipe delimited. Great dandy. All works a treat as long as I treat everything as either an INT or CHAR. But I have a couple of columns that are DATES in the format 13/02/2004.
I want these inserted into smalldatetime columns. Will settle for datetime columns though.
I get an error on every row Bulk Insert data conversion error (type mismatch) for Row X Column 11 (PostingDate) which happens to be the first date column.
Tried loading it as CHAR, SQLDATETIME and SQLDATETIM4 in the format file all to no avail. TRied it with columns in the dest table as DATETIME and SMALLDATETIME
Anyone have any ideas?

SQL Server 2012 running under a domain Managed Service Account. (Server A)
File located on a Windows 2012 server in a directory which has been shared to user A. (Server B).
User A is a domain account and is using his laptop, (laptop C) which is using SSMS to run a bulk insert command.
User A (Bulk Insert from laptop SSMS Client) --- > SQL Server (server A) --- > File Server (Server B)
The command fails and is returning Access denied to the file/folder share on Server B.
Running the same command on the SQL Server (Server A), the command works fine, so this is a double hop kerberos issue.
If I use a SQL Login from Laptop C, then the command works fine as the SQL Server will use the SQL's Managed service account to connect to the file share, which is set up for delegation and impersonation.
I am struggling to work out why a domain user cannot bulk insert a file from a remote location. I have checked that the user is connected with Kerberos authentication and they are. All articles seem to talk about setting up SPN's for the SQL Server so that SQL Login authentication can work over remote bulk insert, and just say to set up the file share properties properly if using a domain account.
What I am missing to allow domain accounts to bulk insert remotely, from a remote file share?
I am currently working with C and SQL Server 2012. My requirement is to Bulk fetch the records and Insert/Update the same in the other table with some business logic? How do i do this?

Overall goal: Write a Bulk Insert statement using the UNC path of a filetable directory.
Issue: When using the UNC path of the filetable directory in a Bulk Insert Statement, receiving "Operating system error code 50(The request is not supported.)" Looking for confirmation as to whether this is truly not supported.

I'm just learning SSIS and I've hit my first bump. I am doing a bulk import from a tab delimited text file to an empty sql table that has a Idendity column defined. How do I tell the bulk insert task to skip that column when inserting from the text file. If I remove the identity column it imports the data fine, but I want to create the indentity column in the table too.

I am attempting to write a SQL query that retrieves info processed between two times (ie. 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm) during a date range (ie. 8/1/06 to 8/14/06)... I am new to SQL and am perplexed...
