I used bulk insert to insert a txt file into a table. It works fine. (see code below) Now, one txt file with column's name at first row and has about 200 columns. There is no table created before. How to code to create a destination table based on first row of the txt file so that bulk insert will work for that txt file?
BULK INSERT #MBRACCT
FROM 'c:order.TXT'
WITH
(
FIELDTERMINATOR = '|',
FIRSTROW = 2,
ROWTERMINATOR = ''
)

now i want to learn how to make a stored procedure to insert a record to `purchase` table, and many records to `purchase_detail` table with transaction where the some value are passed from vb6 through the parameters. i've made a SP to insert 1 record to `purchase` table n 1 record to `purchase_detail` just for testing, so i set the disc value to 10. it works fine... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CREATE PROCEDURE `usp_save_purchase`(xpurch_id VARCHAR(10), xpurch_date VARCHAR(10), xsupp_id VARCHAR(10), xitem_id VARCHAR(10), xqty TINYINT(3), xprice DOUBLE(15,2)) BEGIN START TRANSACTION; INSERT INTO purchase(purch_id,purch_date,supplier_id) VALUES(xpurch_id, xpurch_date, xsupplier_id); INSERT INTO purchase_detail(purch_id,item_id,qty,price,disc) VALUES(xpurch_id, xitem_id, xqty, xprice, 10); COMMIT; END --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- what i need is something like that but i only pass 3 variables (purch_id, purch_date, and supp_id) to SP, and then the SP will insert 1 record of purchase to `purchase` table, and add the purchase items to `purchase_detail` automatically from `purch_temp` table, and use the disc rate based on `supplier_id` and `item_id` from supplier_disc table, which will be looked something like this: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CREATE PROCEDURE `usp_save_purchase`(xpurch_id VARCHAR(10), xpurch_date VARCHAR(10), xsupp_id VARCHAR(10)) BEGIN START TRANSACTION; INSERT INTO purchase(purch_id,purch_date,supplier_id) VALUES(xpurch_id, xpurch_date, xsupplier_id); /*start looping here get the disc rate for each items where supp_id = xsupplier_id and item_id = the item_id from purch_temp table, and save it in a local variable (let's say local_disc) INSERT INTO purchase_detail(purch_id,item_id,qty,price,disc) VALUES(xpurch_id, xitem_id, xqty, xprice, local_disc); */ COMMIT; END --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- can anyone help me please? thank you in advance...

In the below procedure definition, i need to find a way parse the definition and get the list of places where the where clause is being used.
SELECT DISTINCT
FC.CASE_ID,
UPPER(FC.CASE_NUMBER) AS CASE_NUMBER,
UPPER(REPLACE(FC.CASE_SHORT_TITLE,CHAR(13)+CHAR(10),'')) AS CASE_SHORT_TITLE,
FC.CASE_STATUS_DESCR,
FC.CASE_TYP_DESC, FC.CASE_SUB_TYP_DESC,
[Code] ....
In the above query there are more than one places and the where clause may not have the same string the where clause it can be with a space between the "=" and the value in single quotes.
Result set should be in the below format:
TABLE NAME Column Name VALUE
CFG_ELEMENTS ELEMENT_NAME REPORT_CONSOLIDATEDCASES_CASERELATEDTYPID

SQL Server 2012 running under a domain Managed Service Account. (Server A)
File located on a Windows 2012 server in a directory which has been shared to user A. (Server B).
User A is a domain account and is using his laptop, (laptop C) which is using SSMS to run a bulk insert command.
User A (Bulk Insert from laptop SSMS Client) --- > SQL Server (server A) --- > File Server (Server B)
The command fails and is returning Access denied to the file/folder share on Server B.
Running the same command on the SQL Server (Server A), the command works fine, so this is a double hop kerberos issue.
If I use a SQL Login from Laptop C, then the command works fine as the SQL Server will use the SQL's Managed service account to connect to the file share, which is set up for delegation and impersonation.
I am struggling to work out why a domain user cannot bulk insert a file from a remote location. I have checked that the user is connected with Kerberos authentication and they are. All articles seem to talk about setting up SPN's for the SQL Server so that SQL Login authentication can work over remote bulk insert, and just say to set up the file share properties properly if using a domain account.
What I am missing to allow domain accounts to bulk insert remotely, from a remote file share?

Hi - I'm using Session variables to store information (sort of webshop).
The sessions are a mix of the usual straightforward strings, wich are no problem - but I also have a DataTable which I store in a session variable, and I also have an array, which I store in a session variable eg. session("day")(x) where x is the item in the array.
I want to give my users the ability to store the items they've selected in my database, but have no idea of what type of field I should use for the datatable and array session variable. Should I use a TEXT field, or is there another more appropriate one'?
I'm using SQL Server 2000.
Thanks for any help,
Mark

Firstly, I am new to sql so please excuse my ignorance!
I have a stored procedure that tests the import of about 100 text files. This is to screen for file errors prior to processing. The results for each file are held in a table. The procedure script is as follows:
<snip>
insert into st_fileimport (dealernumber, handheld_file)
values ('01', 'Fail')
BULK INSERT dbo.filetesthandheld
FROM 'c:inetpubwwwrootS_Datadealers 1foo.csv'
WITH
(
FIELDTERMINATOR = ',' ,
ROWTERMINATOR = '' ,
ROWS_PER_BATCH = 500
)
update st_fileimport
set handheld_file = 'Pass' where dealernumber = '01'
</snip>
This is then repeated for each file. This works fine, but as soon as an error is encountered the script terminates which means that you need to re-run this procedure iteratively until all files pass.
Is there a way of structuring the stored procedure so it will fail on one import and then move onto the next? Or, a better methodology all together?
Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.
Karen

Hello,
I'm just learning SSIS and I've hit my first bump. I am doing a bulk import from a tab delimited text file to an empty sql table that has a Idendity column defined. How do I tell the bulk insert task to skip that column when inserting from the text file. If I remove the identity column it imports the data fine, but I want to create the indentity column in the table too.
Thanks.

Hi all!!
I have a stored procedure that dynamically bulk loads several tables from several text files. If I encounter an error bulk loading a table in the stored procedure, all I get is the last error code produced, but if I run the actual bulk load commands through SQL Management Studio, it gives much more usable errors, which can include the column that failed to load. We have tables that exceed 150 columns (don't ask), and having this information cuts troubleshooting load errors from hours down to minutes. Onto my question..., is there any way to capture all of the errors produced by the bulk load from within a stored procedure (see examples below)?
Running this...
BULK INSERT Customers
FROM 'c: estcustomers.txt'
WITH (TabLock, MaxErrors = 0, ErrorFile = 'c: estcustomers.txt.err')
Produces this (notice column name at the end of the first error)...
Msg 4864, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Bulk load data conversion error (type mismatch or invalid character for the specified codepage) for row 1, column 1 (CustId).
Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The OLE DB provider "BULK" for linked server "(null)" reported an error. The provider did not give any information about the error.
Msg 7330, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
Cannot fetch a row from OLE DB provider "BULK" for linked server "(null)".
Running this (similar to code in my stored procedure)...
BEGIN TRY
BULK INSERT Customers
FROM 'c: estcustomers.txt'
WITH (TabLock, MaxErrors = 0, ErrorFile = 'c: estcustomers.txt.err')
END TRY
BEGIN CATCH
SELECT
ERROR_NUMBER() AS ErrorNumber,
ERROR_SEVERITY() AS ErrorSeverity,
ERROR_STATE() AS ErrorState,
ERROR_PROCEDURE() AS ErrorProcedure,
ERROR_LINE() AS ErrorLine,
ERROR_MESSAGE() AS ErrorMessage;
END CATCH
Produces something similar to this (which is useless)...
...Cannot fetch a row from OLE DB provider "BULK" for linked server "(null)".
