My client wants SSIS and database engine to be installed to be mapped to this analysis services engine.

SQL 2012 :: SSIS Processing Of SSAS Multidimensional Cube Fails?
Oct 31, 2012All I get back is an error message of "Analysis Services Processing Task Error: A Connection cannot be made. Ensure the Server is running" The server is running, I can process the cube by connecting to the AS instance and right-click processing it.
I can process the cube by running the SSIS task inside of SSDT Just when I deploy the SSIS package (in Project mode) and then execute it do I get the error message.
SQL Server, SSAS, and SSIS processes are all running under the same account. SSAS is on a separate server from SSIS and SQL if that matters.

Apr 24, 2015I am using Linked Server in SQL Server 2008R2 connecting to a couple of Linked Servers.
I was able to connect Linked Servers, but I cannot point to a specific database in a Linked Server, also, I cannot rename Linked Server's name.
How to point the linked server to a specific database? How to rename the Linked Server?

Integration Services :: How To Process SSAS 2012 Cube With SSIS 2014 And Script Task
Nov 11, 2015Now I have a different constellation: Integration Services run on one server, in version 2014, the Analysis Services instance to process the cube database on runs on another server, version 2012.I tried several different combinations of SSIS version and Analysis Management Objects version, and got several errors while running the process package (e.g. object reference not set to an instance of an object, cannot find AnalyisServices.dll..)
Is this combination 2014/2012 possible at all?I assume the BIDS version has to be for SQL Server 2014, as I want to run SSIS packages on a 2014 server, is that correct? Does it matter at all, can I also deploy 2012 packages?Which version of Analysis Management Objects do I have to use? I assumed I have to use version 11.0 here, because I want to process a 2012 cube?If it is possible to use the "old" 11.0 version of AMO, do I have to do anything so that it can be found by the SSIS package running on the server (it was built on my local computer, there I have all SQL Server versions from 2005 to 2014 installed in parallel), or do I just have to copy it to the appropriate SQL Server folder?

Jun 26, 2015I can detach/attach SSAS database.But I have a software that protects(backs up) the files of the SSAS Database.
What the customer needs is to be able to take these backed up files and port it to a different server and attach it there.But the new server complains that these files have no corresponding detach-log files.
The customer doesn't want to backup and restore the SSAS databases.

Dec 2, 2014I have just finished configuring my first test mirrored environment (High safety mode). I setup the database engine service accounts on each of the servers with domainuser. I inherited a production mirrored environment set up by someone else. On the production servers the database engine service account is NT Authorityuser a local account. I am trying to practice installing Windows updates within a mirrored environment and I not sure how to proceed when the service account is NT Authority user account. should I change the service account to a domainuser?

a) In Object Explorer, connect to a particular SQL Server Database Engine, let's call it X.
b) Use that connection to generate many SQL queries, connected to X, in the right-hand pane.
c) In Object Explorer, connect to a particular SQL Server Database Engine, let's call it Y.
d) Use that connection to generate many SQL queries, connected to Y, in the right-hand pane.
e) Close the connection to X, which was created in step (a), from within Object Explorer.
In the right-hand pane, I am now left with a bunch of queries connected to X, and a similar bunch of queries connected to Y. Any quick way to shut all the queries connected to X, but none of the queries connected to Y?
This question can assume real practical importance if server X is a Live Production Server, and server Y is a Test Server, and my next job of the day is to run a change script against server Y....
I have looked for an option in Management Studio to "Close all queries connected to Server X", but haven't found one.
DB Engine :: 2012 Database Stuck In Recovery Pending Status?
Jan 12, 2013I have a SQL cluster which ran out of disk the other day. I threw plenty more disk at the SAN. However, 1 of the databases came back with Recovery Pending and has been over 24 hours. I have tried to backup the database with no success. I don't have a clean backup from the day it occured so would have a good amount of work missing.
Running a dbcc check returns the following:
Msg 945, Level 14, State 2, Line 1
Database 'sqldb' cannot be opened due to inaccessible files or insufficient memory or disk space. See the SQL Server errorlog for details.
I have not tried a dbcc check with REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS as there seems to be a high risk of losing whatever was going on. how I can get the db back online?

I'm trying to install a new stand-alone version with a default instance but always getting this error. From the features I'm installing the database engine services (not the replication), all the tools, only the basic management toolds and the SQL Client connectivity SDK.
Further in the installation I'm choosing the Windows authentication and in the list of SQL administrators I've already tried to install as current user but also as System. Both with the same error result.

Nov 24, 2014I'm having a few issues trying to get a linked server setup from a new SQL2012 installation to a Lotus Notes database. This linked server has previously been working fine on our old SQL2005 environment. All setup using the same details (ODBC driver name matches, account details etc). If we test the connection from the Lotus ODBC driver the test connection is successful, If I then create the Linked server to access this ODBC driver I receive an error :

I have set up a linked server and I am succesfully running MDX queries using OPENQUERY against an SSAS cube. However, occasionally I am getting the error:
OLE DB provider "MSOLAP" for linked server "MyLinkedServer" returned message "Internal error: An unexpected error occurred (file 'pfoledbreader.cpp', line 796, function 'PFDBReaderOledb::Bind').".
Does anyone know what might be causing this?

Feb 7, 2008We have installation of Dbase Engine and SSIS that is PRODUCTION, and want to replace with newer hardware. In "the old days", we built "boxname_new" and installed SQL with "sqlname_new", took PROD users off-line, and quickly renamed original boxes/SQL and new boxes/SQL to original name, copied data and off we went with upgrade.
NOW, the "renaming" option for SQL tools is not supported, but with re-installation.
Has anyone developed game plan steps for accomplishing hardware upgrade, including SQL environment swap with MINIMAL downtime for PRODUCTION environment? Can you share?

Aug 21, 2015I have been trying to configure a linked server to AD and have found plenty of write ups on how to do it, but have had zero luck with getting it to work. I also read that the ability was removed after SQL 2008; is that correct? I am running 2014 and am seeing the following error trying to expand the tree:

The linked server is set for 'Be made by the login's current security context' and local to remote is configured SA to a domain account we use for lookups. It does not seem to matter if I am logged in to the server with SQL or Windows credentials.

Jul 18, 2014I had a pivot to pull data from cube previously.The pivot had certain measures which are now set as invisible measures at the cube level itself.After the cube publish,i just reconnected my pivot to the cube so that the new measures and dimensions are shown in the field list.
I just tried refreshing the pivot with my old measures(which are now set as invisible) and it allowed me to refresh.How can this be possible if the measure itself is set as invisible at cube level?

Feb 25, 2013Recently migrated from 2008 to 2012. Everything is working fine; however went to take my first set of backups today and one of them blew up:
Executing the query ...
Backup and restore errors: Unexpected number of disk files associated with database object. Possible cause for that is missing or corrupt cryptokey.bin or detach.log file.
Execution complete
Not finding much online on the specific error.
- Data source is valid
- Can process the cube
- Can query / navigate cube
Next step would be drop/recreate; however this is an older cube that I'd prefer to leave alone at this stage if possible.

Every date belongs to a particular week and every week belongs to a particular month and every month belongs to a particular quarter etc. January 1st is always going to be a member of week 1, month 1, quarter 1.But here's the rub, real life isn't as predictable and stable as a calendar.
Lets say you have an table containing personal information. You might have gender and marital status in there and even though they both relate to one person, they're unrelated to each other so how do you put those in a hierarchy? Which one goes first and which second because you can get combinations of either.

Jul 14, 2015I know how to create an alias for a SQL server instance, so instead of MyServerMyInstanceName, I can type MyInstanceName into my SSMS connection box. But SSAS does not allow me to connect with the alias.
I've looked all over and found plenty of documentation that SQL 2005 and 2008 doesn't allow the use of instance aliases for SSAS. I've even found notes from Microsoft saying "we'll fix this in a future edition." I have not found any indications or notes as to whether or not this has been fixed.
Can aliases be created for 2012 SSAS? Or is this still not available?

Apr 24, 2015Need to set up a linked server in two node SQL Cluster pointing to a standalone SQL thru security setting "be made using current login's security context". It's double hop Kerberos setup. Cluster uses a domain account, so we manually set SPNs for that account with both instance name and protocol as well (set up these SPNs with SQL virtual name only).
Also, constrained delegation has been set to that stand alone SQL services (MSSQLSvc).
Both SQL cluster and standalone servers are in same domain, cluster service account is domain account and standalone SQL uses default SQL local service account.
Coming to SQL, when I create linked server, sometimes it lets me create without issues and sometime it throws this below warning and even if I create it won't work.
Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY/ANANOMOUS LOGIN'.

Nov 11, 2015I have a user who is trying to run a job (call an Stored Procedure) which connects to a Linked Server. He can run it OK using EXEC SP_Name but when he runs from the SQL Jobs it gives him the error: Linked servers cannot be used under impersonation without a mapping for the impersonated login.[SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 7437). The step failed.The Linked Server was setup using another account. Would this be fixed if I add the new user to the Security section of Linked Server without breaking the current configuration?

We use SSAS for a few OLAP cubes but I have read that it is recommend to first warehouse the data then build cubes on top of the warehouse? I assume you use SSIS to build the warehouse?

SQL 2012 :: SSAS Actions Not Appearing In Excel 2010?
Nov 28, 2012I have an SSAS cube that i want to add some actions to. I've had problems adding a reporting action to the cube so decided just to add a URL action instead. Start simple and build on the concepts...
So i add a new action, give it a name, set the Target Type to Cells, Taget object to All Cells. I've put no condition on the action since i want it to appear all the time.
The action content type is set to URL the action expression is set to [URL] I've also set a caption of "Google" under the additional properties and said that the caption is MDX (I'm aware that it isn't but i do intend to expand on this...).
I then build and deploy my cube, call up excel (2010) and then create a pivot table off the back of the cube but when i right-click the cells in the pivot table and go to "additional actions" it tells me that there are none specified.

It involves using a SQL Express 32 bit instance as a bridge.
I have created a Linked Server on the 32 bit instance MTESTXPRESS as follows:

On the 64 bit instance ALISTESTER I have another Linked Server as follow:
EXEC sp_addlinkedserver @server = N'ABACUS', @provider=N'SQLNCLI', @datasrc=N'ALISTESTERMTESTEXPRESS'
The suggestion is to then use a select statement such as:
SELECT * FROM OPENQUERY(ABACUS, 'SELECT COUNT(*) FROM ABDATA...ABBATCH')
Unfortunately, the DataDirect driver for MTESTEXPRESS will not recognize the 'ABDATA...ABBATCH' 3-part naming convention. The error message is:
An invalid schema or catalog was specified for the provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "ABDATA"
Is there some other way to select from the MTESTEXPRESS linked server?

Feb 12, 2009We get the below error while performing a distributed transaction on linked server. We have several linked servers configured in the source server and all of them succeed with the distributed transaction except on one.
We did all the basic troubleshooting and moreover the distributed transactions work fine if we use a remote server instead.
Error:
OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI10" for linked server "SERVERNAME.REDMOND.CORP.MICROSOFT.COM" returned message "No transaction is active.".
Msg 7391, Level 16, State 2, Line 3

How To Integrate SSIS And SSAS

Some of you may have done this, but how do you integrate a Integration package with Analysis Services?
Within my vs solution, I have a SSIS package and a SSAS, which will build a simple cube.
At the end of SSIS, it can email, log, or exec another SSIS pkg, etc. but I did not find out a way to fire off the SSAS part.
