SQL 2012 :: Changing Multiple Characters In 1 Word / Cell
Sep 29, 2015
How can I replace more than 1, different character, in the same value / cell?
e.g. ångermüller should become angermueller (å to a, and ü to ue)
Multiple combinations of special characters are possible in 1 word: é and á, or ö and í etc etc
Is there a way to do this?

So I have a problem with combining cells: some of the cells are blank and some of the cells have NULL value.
The combined blank cells return perfect.
But the combined cells in which 1 or more contains NULL will return as NULL

A part of the script which i use is:

WHERE h.itemno_i = i.itemno_i
FOR XML PATH('')), 1, 1, '')
i.ac_type = 139
i.range_or_single = A
i.serialno_to = blank or NULL
I want the result of the blank value to be the same as the NULL value.

Hi,
i was checking books online and run into the sp_OAxxxx stored procs that can give us access to a OLE Object.
I am currently developing a VB.Net app that uses a word template to create word documents. So, for example ,i we suppose that the template is :
-----Template start -------
This document was created by <!_author_> on <!_date_>
-----Template end --------
then, the created document would be :
-----Created doc start -------
This document was created by justsarter on 09/13/2007
-----Created doc end --------
All the data are fetched from a database and i have to make muptiple calls to it ,not to mention opening and closing word.application object.
I wonder if that kind of text manipulation in the document can be performed on the server using an SP
Thx

I am converting a site from asp to .net and the previus writer did something I never saw.(I am somewhat new to programming all together). He put multiple values in a single cell of the database. I have always learned to use a seperate column for each value.
Is this a classic asp thing and there are better ways now? Or is this something I should do myself? The columns type is text and the contents look like this:<Details Expertise="bla bla" Description="We are a three-divisional company ...," WebSite="www.blabla.com" AccountLevel="Free" AccountStatus="Active" WorkHomeZIP="22222" ContractStartDate="01/01/2003" ContractEndDate="12/31/2003"><Address Location="Work" State="Oh" ZIP="22222"/><Email Location="Work" Value=""/><Phone Location="Fax" Code="9801" Ext=""/></Details>

Hella all,
Is it possible to stack two images on top of each other in a table ?
Let me clarify where i'm going to.
I have a report where in one table i would like to display (in a graphical way) how much a sales person has sold towards
the whole sales amount.
To do so i would like to set my background of my cell to yellow and then use an image (just a green rectangle)
where i adjust the padding according to the percentage.
When i set my background to yellow and i insert my image in the cell, the textbox cell properties disapear and are
replaced with the image properties. So also my background that was defined in my textbox is gone.
Now i was thinking if i could set two images on top of each other (a yellow rectangle and a green rectangle). But when
i do that, one image is replaced with another.
Am i doing something wrong or is there another way to achieve what i want to do?

Running SQL2000
I have a one to many relationship between Flag and StudentFlag. I'm wanting to select each Flag.FlagID that exist as a column that contains the StudentFlag.Value per StudentFlag.StudentID (or null for that column if that StudentFlag row doesn't exist).
This single column appearing multple times in a single dataset has seemed difficult in a select statement. Is it posible in T-SQL?
Tables, Keys, and Relationships
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Flag] (

My team is using TFS for work item management and I'd like to provide a week schedule matrix that displays:
- weekdays on the x-axis
- persons on the y-axis
- and the assigned workitems in the cell.
This works fine if there's only one WIT (work item) per day but some WIT's are shorter and thus the resource is assigned more than one a day. My dataset may return something like this:
Date Person WIT
28/3 Mark Task1
28/3 Mark Task2
28/3 Hank Task3
29/3 Mark Task2
29/3 Hank Task3
In this case I'd like the matrix to look something like this, i.e. the two tasks Task1 and Task2 in the same cell:
Mark Hank
28/3 Task1 Task3
Task2
29/3 Task2 Task3
I've set up the matrix in the report but I only get the first item per day to show.
Mark Hank
28/3 Task1 Task3
29/3 Task2 Task3
The default definition in the cell was "=First(Field!TaskName.Value)", so I figured I'd solved the issue by changing it to "=Field!TaskName.Value", but it didn't.
...any idéas??

What is the syntax when creating a SQL statement and using a column that has a multiple word name?
I know that in query analyzer it should be delimited? by double quotation marks like such:
SELECT Item, "Item Description" FROM ComponentList WHERE Item = 'CPU'
The above works great in Query Analyzer on the device and in the device emulator.
but I'm attempting to build a SQL string in code...VB.Net using CF and PocketPC SDK, SQLCE on the PocketPC device....
Here's the snippet that does not work:
sql = "SELECT Item, 'Item Description' FROM ComponentList WHERE Item = '" & selectedItem & "' "
Try
cnITSComponents.Open()
cmdItems = New SqlCeCommand(sql, cnITSComponents)
drItems = cmdItems.ExecuteReader()
fieldCount = drItems.FieldCount
While drItems.Read()
.....More code here not copied
I'm trying to fill a listview control and when I use the above syntax one of the columns is filled with the text Item Description instead of pulling the actual Item Description from the table...So what is the correct way to construct the SQL string?
Thanks
Greg

Hi!
What I'd like to do is:
UPDATE table1
SET
A_TEXT_COLUMN = (SELECT another_text_column
FROM table2
WHERE table2_id = @precomputed_id_1)
WHERE table1_ID = @precomputed_id_2
Since the cells are text, this does not work. Since the cell to be updated is in an already exitant row, it's not possible to simply use insert.
I'd like to do something like (PSEUDOcode):
WRITETEXT(table1.A_TEXT_COLUMN, READTEXT(@textptr_initialised_to_point_at_target_c ell))
But the *actual* synatx of WRITETEXT and READTEXT seem totally inappropriate for any such trick...
Any hints or pointers HUGELY appreciated... THANX

Hi,
I'm working with MRS and I've got a table with a lot of entries. For each value in the table I'm trying to get the text colour to be set to 'red' when the value of the cell is less than 0. Otherwise remain black.
I can do this by setting the colour property cell by cell. But I have a lot of cells in the table. Is there a way to set the statement to apply to ALL cells in the table?
Basically I'm asking if there is a way to set the property in bulk instead of going through tediously cell by cell.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

ProductItem, Description, Price, ProductID, PackSizeI want to be able to see a summary of the products (there are thousands of them) using one or more words (or partial words) in one text box to search in only 3 fields (ProductItem, Description, ProductID, ). This needs to show only records which contain the search criteria in a gridview?This is such a basic requirement for a website, and can be found on many sites, but I haven't found how to do it.Thanks, Bri

We compulsorily use NOLOCK in our scripts on reporting DB and development generally forget putting NOLOCKS or schema names with tables.
Creating a script to search for a missing word or a phrase in SQL Server script.
Our format is
<schema>.<table> <alias here> WITH NOLOCK <or alias here>
or
<schema>.<table> <alias here> NOLOCK <or alias here>

<schema>.<table> <alias here> (NOLOCK) <or alias here>
but generally developers write only <table> <alias>

For the past couple of days I've been having an issue with Reporting Services. From what I can understand reporting services doesn't work well when exporting to word.
The scenario is quite simple, I am developing a report for a client with a 'master page', which works as the cover, and executes 2 sub-reports with one table each, nothing fancy. We don't export this report to pdf, because the internal client has to attach another report that is impossible to automate, so they generate that report via excel and integrate it on our word document before sending the document to their business partners.
Our main problem is that we can't export the header/footers to word.

I need extracting string that is between certain characters that are in certain position.
Here is the DDL:
DROP TABLE [dbo].[StoreNumberTest]
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[StoreNumberTest](
[StoreNumber] [varchar](50) NULL,
[StoreNumberParsed] [varchar](50) NULL)
INSERT INTO [dbo].[StoreNumberTest]
[Code] ....
What I need to accomplish is to extract the string that is between the third and fifth '-' (dash) and insert it into the StoreNumberParsed while eliminating the fourth dash.
Sample output would be:
KY117
CA132
OH174
MD163
FL191
I know that parse, charindex, patindex all might come in play, but not sure how to construct the statement.

The new field has an assortment of ANSI characters where the legacy data did not have these. Is there anything I can do that will ignore all ansi character differences? The only route I can think of is just do a replace on each ANSI type on the new column but there are quite a few character types.
