SQL 2012 :: Convert Datetime Into Date In SSIS
Dec 7, 2014
I have define two variable of Datetime type @Sdate and @Edate.
1. @Sdate = DATEADD ("DD", -5, GETDATE())
2. @Edate = GETDATE()
3. Using Forloopcontainer for pulling the data into batches
( @sdate = dateadd ( "HH" , 1, @sdate))
Now since i am using getdate() to define @Sdate. my variable gets data as ( 2014/12/08 11:43:00AM)
Converting GETDATE( 2014/12/08 11:43:00AM) to only date 2014/12/08 00:00:00AM.
I tired using DT_WSTR which works fine (converting datetime int String).
Problem occurs when i am going through For Loop container . Since i have used assignment of @Sdate is says its not allowed.

This UDF will strip off the time portion of a DateTime. It can give you either midnight last night, or midnight tonight.
Lets say you have two datetime values @dateStart and @dateEnd, and you want to select records between these dates (excluding any time portion), then you would do:
SELECT *
FROM MyTable
WHERE MyDateTimeColumn >= dbo.kk_fn_UTIL_DateRound(@dateStart, 0)
AND MyDateTimeColumn < dbo.kk_fn_UTIL_DateRound(@dateEnd, 1)
If you want to display dates, without the time, then do:
SELECT dbo.kk_fn_UTIL_DateRound(MyDateColumn, 0) AS [My Date]
FROM MyTable
--
PRINT 'Create function kk_fn_UTIL_DateRound'
GO
IF EXISTS (SELECT * FROM dbo.sysobjects WHERE id = object_id(N'[dbo].[kk_fn_UTIL_DateRound]') AND xtype IN (N'FN', N'IF', N'TF'))

Is it possible to convert a date stored as a string into a datetime with integration services 2005? My attempts with the €œdata conversion€? fail. The string type form of the date is €˜yyyy-mm-dd€™ and the desired result for use in a Union All is €˜dd/mm/yyyy 12:00:00AM.€™ This outcome is needs so that match on the date can populate a fact table, as the results are coming from two different databases.

YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ssTZD
eg: 2009-04-16T19:20:30+08:00
I am not sure of the easiest way to do this.
The test code below gets me part of the way but I am unsure on how to get the offset on the end without hardcoding to much.
DECLARE @datetime DATETIME = '2014-12-20 12:30:00'
SELECT CONVERT(VARCHAR(30),@datetime,127)

We have 2 columns:
StartDate - data type Date
StartTime - data type Time
I need to combine them into a DateTime data type. For now, I convert each of them into varchar, insert space in between, and convert to DateTime, like this:
convert(datetime, convert(varchar(10), EndDate , 101) + ' ' + CONVERT(varchar(20), EndTime,24))
Is there a better, more elegant way to do this?

Being a newbie to SSIS I'm not sure of the most efficient method of converting a DateTime object to a String.
I'm from a C# background where this would be easy using DateTime.ToString("YYYYMMdd"). I want to use the date in a file name so don't require most of the parts.
I'm sure I could do this using a script task to produce a file name for each row of data in my table and add that filename to the dataset but it seem like overkill to do something that should be simple. Also as I'm supposed to be getting to grips with SSIS I shouldn't keep running back to what I know.
My current approach is to derive a column and build up an expression to convert the date into a string. The only problem being that it doesn't work.
The expression I'm working with is:
(DT_WSTR, 50)([OrgName] ) + "_" + (DT_WSTR, 50)( [PayrollName] ) + (DT_WSTR, 4)(YEAR( [ProcessedDate] )) + (DT_WSTR, 2)(MONTH( [ProcessedDate] )) + (DT_WSTR, 2)(DAY( [ProcessedDate] )) ".txt"
Can anyone see where I'm going wrong?
All comments greatly received.
Cheers
Ben

In VBA, CLng(Now) will return the integer portion of a date CLng(Now) returns 41928, CDate(41928) then returns 10/16/2014. Is there something equivalent in SQL Server that will allow me to convert an integer value to a date?
In short, how can I convert a 100 year date to Gregorian (any format)?

What would be the most economy solution for this WHERE, I see the code where we have covnert to 101 type on both sides of equation, which I tnink is not right.
So I'm thinking to put it on the left like this, just curiouse is this the best solution, I also heard that TSQL interpret between even better , here I'm really care abour performance.
declare @DATE DATE = '01/14/2014'
--A:
SELECT * FROM TT
WHERE CAST( TT.DATETIME AS DATE) = @DATE
--B:
SELECT * FROM TT
WHERE TT.DATETIME >= @DATE and TT.DATETIME < DATEADD(D,1,@DATE)

I have a database which is centered around two date tables (approx. 5.5 million records each). We are finally making the big leap from SQL Server 2005 to 2012. The data is currently stored as datetime, and we are hoping to take advantage of the new date datatype, since the time component is not needed.
The first table has 13 different date columns. In testing on the 2012 server I have changed 3 columns so far, and have seen that changing the datatype to date is actually increasing the Index size and not affecting the data size. Only 3 of the columns are associated with indexes, and modifying a non-indexed column still increased the index size. I am running the Disk Usage by Table report to view the sizes.

I embedded a SQL query in excel that gets some datetime fields like "TASK_FINISH_DATE"Â .
How can I convert a datetime field to a date field in SQL in a way that excel will recognize it as a date type and not a text type?
I tried:
CONVERT(varchar(8),TASK_FINISH_DATE ,3)
CONVERT(Date,TASK_FINISH_DATE ,3)
CAST(TASK_FINISH_DATE as date)
**all of the above returned text objectes in excel and not date objects.

Working on a new database where the Date and Time are stored in a Date Time Field.
Then working on an OLDER database file within the same SQL Database contains these 2 items as integers:
transDate = "71615" (July 16, 2015)
transTime = "12345" (01:23:45 AM)
How do we convert both of them into a single SQL DateTime field such as "2015-07-16 01:23:45.000" so that it can be used in a join restricting to a date time in a different SQL File that properly has the DateTime in it?
This works well for converting the transDate Part in the select statement:
  dbo.IntegerToDate(at.transDate) as transDate
  * That returns: "2015-07-16 00:00:00.000"
* The resulting data must work directly in a Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Query using either using the "on" statement or part of the "where" clause. In other words, NOT as a stored procedure!
Also must be able to be used as a date difference calculation when comparing the 2 files Within say + or - 5 seconds.

When I try to test the format by using getDate instead of DateTime column I get right milliseconds.
CONVERT(varchar(23),GetDate(),121) --Gives right milliseconds in return

Passing a date parameter in a stored procedure through OLEDB Source (Data flow task). We have a multipurpose stored proc in which one of the many expected parameter is a date. It keeps giving me the following error:Description: "Operand type clash: int is incompatible with date"- although there is no integer.
One way to fix it would be change the data type from date to datetime in proc but I can't do that since it is multi-purpose proc. I didn't find anything good on the net.

hi,
How do i convert a varchar field into the datetime data type? the reason i need this lies in the requirement that in the earlier data base the column that is hlding the date value is having the data type as varchar. and in the new design the column data type is datetime. i am using sql scripts for the data migration from the older design to the newer and got stuck with this datetime convertion issue. do let me know the best possible solution.
following are the sample data that is theer in the older table for the date.
12/12/2003
1/13/2007
01132004
1-1-2004
1.2.2001
there is no uniformity of the data that is stored currently.

I have an SSIS package that pulls data from a MYSQL DB (Using RSSBus for Salesforce in SSIS to accomplish this). Most of the columns are loading properly, but I have many columns that I need to convert.
I have been using the Data Conversion dataflow task in SSIS to convert the rows.
I have 2 data conversions that work on most of the columns, but the DESCRIPTION column continues to return an error saying "Cannot convert between unicode and non-unicode types", regardless of what I choose on the Data Conversion task. So, basically I want to dump this column data into a SQL table with NVARCHAR datatypes. Here is what I am doing in my SSIS package...
1) Grab subset of data from SOURCE
2) Converts to TEXTSTREAM. (Data Conversion)
3) Converts to STRING. (Data Conversion)
4) Load Destination table. (OLE DB Destination)
I have also tried to simply convert the values to STRING, but that doesn't work either.
So, I have 2 Data Conversions working here that process most of the data correctly. What I can do to load the DESCRIPTION column?
