Is it possible to create the environment in DTS (2012) and have that environment created on the target server?
I have deployed a project with multiple packages to SSIS 2012 db. I am able to configure the project parameters fine. But, I am not able to replace the package variable values with the 'Environment' variables.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have an SSAS project that we want to auto deploy. I am not sure how to handle the external data sources in the project. This one in particular has a single external data source defined to Microsoft SQL Server.
I would like to be able to change the data source based on the environment. In SSIS projects I can do this by setting up environments in the SSISDB and linking them to project parameters in the SSIS project but SSAS projects don't seem to have a similar mechanism.
How to handle this? I would like to be able to have the build/deployment agent pass in server / database information to the data source based on environment (dev, QA, production).
The only way to automate this that I've discovered is to have an intermediary process that executes after the build that updates the generated .asdatabase and .configsettings files in the bin folder replacing the connection string information.
I have an existing project that I have added a simple text file. I am using the Project Deployment Model for this project. I save the project, close it and open the project and the file is there under the Miscellaneous folder. I successfully deployed the project to the server. When I retrieve the project using the Integration Services Import Project Wizard, all of my package modifications are there and the packages up to date but the txt file I added to the Miscellaneous folder is not there.

I am using Package Configuration to simplify SSIS package deployment process. All the configuration information are stored in XML file. So far so good, However, since I have many, 20, packages. For each package, there is one configuration file to it. During the deployment process, I have dynamically modify connecting string (server name, DB name) to new ones. It ends up 20 or more modification and it's eaily for me to make mistake. Is there any workaround such as setting up environment variable, I guess, to allow me only modify once and apply it to all the packages?

I have a very small project written in VB.Net 2005 using the SQL Server 2005 SSiS DTSx package.
I took a SQL Server 2000 dts package and using the SQL Server 3005 legacy tools migrated it so I could still use the package withing SQL 2005 until I can build one using BI/SSIS.
Anyway,I added the reference Microsoft.SqlServer.ManagedDTS so I could then use the Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime so I can execute the commands:

Ok. That works fine. Executes without a hitch. So now I try and create a setup project for this and I use the setup wizard.
During the creation of the setup project I get a message that states:
The following files may have dependencies that cannot be determined automatically. Please confirm that all dependencies have been added to the project.
C:windowssystem32msxml6.dll
OK. The dll is part of the reference I mentioned above and I have no idea what other dependencies it may have.
How do I find this out?
Has anyone else created a project like this and experenced the same?
I am on a clean build running WinXP Pro with SP2 - VS2005 with SP1 and the SQL Server 2005 tools.
So, we are about 3 weeks away from going into production, and somehow we failed to give much thought to deploying our RS project into production.
We have over 110 report models that need to be deployed into production, and until now, we just deploy into our dev and test environments using Visual Studio. But, in our production environment, our deployers will not have Visual Studio.
Is there any simply backup/restore method that can be used to move our test environment into production? Please don't suggest a copy of each file one at a time /sigh.

Previously we used to deploy the reports in our development environment through reporting project but now we need to physically deploy the reports to the client on 14 different servers. We don't have access to the reporting project on site. Is there any way to deploy the reports outside reporting project?

I have a VS 2012 SSIS project with more and more packages being added. I've got project parameters so I'm committed to the project deployment model (which is pretty convenient BTW). My question is how we're supposed to occasionally limit the packages we want deployed. There are times when 2 or more packages may be in development and 1 is deployable and the other not. I can temporarily exclude the not ready package and then deploy. It seems cumbersome bringing it back in. BIDS complains that all the tasks have lost their connection managers; even though they're are present in the editor. And it makes a copy of the .dtsx.
what's the recommended way to work in this environment?
I am getting following error when "CreateDeploymentUtility" is set to true and I try building the solution. It tries to copy a file that already exits in inDeployment folder. I am using Sept. CTP.

I have tried with and without adding a database reference. With the reference all I accomplish is lost time waiting for that monster link to the database to generate. There has to be a way to make this happen, right? I don't want to have to rewrite this in Transact SQL.
I have SSIS 2012 Enterprise, using catalog deployment and have more that 50 environment variables for connection to databases across my enterprise.
The problem when i go to configure the packages after deployment and pick the proper env variables, that are not sorted, so i have to browse all entries in order to find the proper entry in environment variables.
hi, I'm using vstudio 2002, trying to create an C# asp web project, when I select these for a new project it says contacting server to create web project and never quits even after 1.5 hours. I saw in a similar post elsewhere they said the solution is to disable the firewalls - and I did that - and I have norton only, so that is not the issue. IIS is installed as well as SQL server, I can see it running. I have tested successfully a sql connection not long ago using access. Any thoughts? Thanks.

In Lesson 4 of the tutorial it instructs you to select File, New, Project. However, when I select File, New there is no Project choice listed. Have I failed to install something correctly?

I am building a bunch of packages on our new server and all was going well until I edited the project using the client tools on my PC. I now receive the below error if I try to execute any of the packages on the server (all is still fine on the client). I have scoured the net but I don't seem to be able to come up with a solution. I have tried altering the folder & object permissions for my login (that created the project on the server and edited using the client) but I still get the error.

How can I create a new database on a cluster sql environment? Do I need to create the database on both nodes?

We have a production database that was generated by a vendor. The vendor wants us to test a new version of their software. This testing process will take several months. The users want the testing to be as real time as possible. I have developed a series of scripts that will back up our databases and ship them over to our test environment on a nightly basis. We also of course have nightly backups. As a general rule, we do full backups once a week and differentials on a nightly basis.
We are a phone company that has transactions being applied to the database 7 X 24.
My question is this: Is there a way (an option or something) that when my backup of the production database which is destined for the test environment runs, I can tell it to not set the flags that indicate a backup has been done. What I want to avoid is the differential backup process from being 'Confused' about what backup it is doing a differential for.
I would appreciate any help or insight you can give me.

I have created 5 enterprise custom fields(A,B,C,D,E) through PWA/Server Settings.
I want to search all Projects on Server. If any project is having value for custom field A then I want to update rest of the custom fields(B,C,D,E) for that perticular project.
I dont know how to do it please help.

I tried to do "Enabling CLR Integration" in my SQL Server Express: (1) If I clicked on "Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections", I got an error "An exception occurred in SMO while trying to manage a service, (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo) Additional information: Failed to retrieve data for this request. (Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoEnum) The operation could not be completed. (WinMgmt). (2) If I clicked on "Surface Area Configuration for Features, I got a different error "Computer localhost does not exist on the network, or the computer cannot be configured remotely. Verify that the remote computer has the required computer has the required Windows Management Instrumentation components and then try again. I've read lots about why you shouldn't normally shrink databases in posts such as this:

But we have a situation where we are required to copy the live db to various non production environments for testing. Part of this process involves truncating a number of tables with masses of blob data. So we're freeing up quite a lot of space. The question is how to reclaim this? The database is peculiar in that it's got no clustered indexes so I can't rebuild indexes on another filegroup with drop to move and rebuild.
I've tried dbcc shrinkfile specifying a size. I've tried to shrink the file in increments. The problem is I'm just not getting much space released. I get maybe 2-3%. I suspect this is because we're dealing with heaps with some tables that have sparsely populated blob / image data.
Is there an alternative to shrinking? Should I recreate all the db objects in a new database? It doesn't matter if the process takes a while or if it has to be done manually.
