SQL 2012 :: DTSX Package - Starting And Stopping A Job
Feb 26, 2015
I have a job that runs a dtsx package (containing an infinite loop). What I want to do is set up a schedule to start the job at 8am and stop it at 5pm. The scheduling GUI doesn't give this kind of option (caveat: that I can see).
When our rep distribution services time-out (several times a day) some dba's just restart the service while others restart the rep job which starts the service. Are there any differences between these two methods? Does restarting the service inherit any changes made to the job's attributes?

My problem is primarily with SQL backup but the instant question is with mirroring in SQL 2005. I have a log file that is out of control and I need to do a backup with truncate_only, but this is command is evidently disallowed while mirroring is enabled. Is it possible to temporarily deactivate or remove mirroring in order to get the backup log under control? Is it possible to do that and then 'resume' mirroring?
A secondary issue is that I don't think mirroring is actually working at this point in time anyway. In the Mirroring section of the database properties the Status window says "No connection: cannot connect to the mirror server instance," so the question of stopping and restarting may be moot.
How does one reestablish mirroring if the connection is lost?
Lots of questions, I know... I'm reading up on it, but I'm obviously not the guy who set it up in the first place! Thanks in advance for any help...
I have a dtsx package that is calling another dtsx package, however, if the called upon dtsx package fails with errors or what not, then the calling package does not continue as well. Is there any way to override this such that if the called upon package fails, the downstream actions in that package can stop, but the calling packages downstream actions to continue?
I wonder if you can help me with a problem I have trying to support a web based application that uses SQL 2005.
The problem is that the application developers tell me that it is neccessary to stop and restart the SQL service as part of the troubleshooting process when their application stops working. Unfortunately, the customer has our application database on a clustered SQL instance that is used by other applications so they cannot just stop and restart the SQL service because this will have a major impact on all the other instances...
Is there another way that would effectively do the same thing as stopping and restarting the SQL service? I have read that dettaching and re-attaching might do the same but application developers say onlt stopping/restarting services is sufficient to break the connection with the application.
Any advice would be really welcome as I am completely new to SQL and struggling with this!
I'm hosting sqlserver 2005 developer edition locally on windows vista.
I'm getting messages for allot of stuff.
I can't restart, stop, or start my sql server instance.
I can't start the full-text search service.
I get this when I try to start the full-text search service.

Say we need to replicate between 2 databases using transactional replication
So we create a publication on the first server and initialse the publication agent so that it takes a snapshot and starts the log reader to capture the transactions being keyed into it.
Then say we create a pull subscription from the second database but lets say we assume we already have the data from thepublication database already in it so no need to app,ly a snapshot over it, when the pull subscription starts we assume that only transactions in the log reader that occured AFTER the pull subscription was started would be applied. Is this correct?
Then say we need to stop the pull subscription for a short period then start it again (let say so that we can take a back up of the subscriber database and restore the database somewhere else and replication set up between these 2 with no chance of data being althered before the restore had finished) can someone confirm when we start the pull subscription again all the transactions that occurred during the stopped period will be applied when it is started again OR will it be the case that only the transactions since the pull subscription was restarted will be applied
Hello All... I am new to this forum (and new to SQL for that matter), so I hope this isn't a stupid question. I tried searching for the answer but couldn't find it here. I am trying to start & stop SQL server through the command line so I can start & stop it as a scheduled task. Are there any switches for sqlmangr.exe I can use? Maybe another way?
I've been dealing with a few problems with SQL Server 2005.
We don't want to give our DBA's local administrator access to the servers so we had a problem with SSIS which I managed to resolve by adding their global group into the local DCOm group and modifying the security properties of MsDtsServer.
Another problem I've come across is when you log into Management Studio as an account that has local administrator access to the server you have the Green symbol next to the registered server, you can then right click and Stop, Restart services etc.
If I log into Management Studio with an account that has full SQL sysadmin rights but not local administrator rights to the server then the Green symbol doesn't appear and the Stop, restart options are all greyed out - all other functionality appears okay, they just seem to lose the ability to remotely stop and start services.
All of the above is with Windows Firewall turned off, if the user has local administrator rights but the SQL Server has the Windows Firewall switched on they are unable to remotely stop and restart services.
Port 1433 is open on the firewall and program execptions are there for sqlbrowse.exe
Anyone come across this particular problem before?
We have a new sales force automation application for sales rep to log their contacts, etc. It runs on mssql 6.5, sp 4.
They log in and leave their connections on without logging off or leave their coonections idle .
We set the user connections fiarly high but we are concerned that the max amount of user connections weill be consumed and the sql serve becomes locked.
My questions are:
1) Is there any parameter in the sql server configuration that will log off idle users have a certain time and dsiconnect them?
2) A backup of the database will be made each night. If there is no parameter, would it be a good idea to stop and start the sql server every night to release the idle connections?
3) If so, how to stop sql server from the commadn and start it with a command line command and do this in a batch file as a scheduled task?
4) Is there any other way to release these idle connections each night?
Any information you can supply will be appreciated. THanks.
I am programmatically creating a package and for executing the package i say "Package.Execute()". Likewise,is there any method exposed which programatically stops the package execution?
I have a data flow task within a package. I want to be able to stop the whole package if I come across a certain condition based on data.
I've got it to the point where I can detect the condition, but all I'm able to do right now is then insert a row into a log table, and the rest of the package continues running. What I really want to do is stop the whole package in its tracks.
I have a SSIS-package with Excel Connection Manager that fails on our x64-platform with error: Error: 2006-12-08 06:46:23.77 Code: 0xC0202009 Source: dpd2_philips Connection manager "Excel Connection Manager" Description: An OLE DB error has occurred. End Error
It's works fine on my computer (x86) and if I start the package manually on the x64-server. But I noticed that it runs under 32bit (DTExecUI.exe *32 in taskmanager) when it's started manually.
Any idea? The server use dtexec.exe to start the packages. Maybe it runs under 64bit then?
I understand that I can use dtutil to provide a password to encrypt the package. However, when I run the encrypted package, I need to provide the same password in order to run it. Is there a way that I can encrypt the package but allow anybody to run it without providing the password? That is, I want the package to be encrypted so that nobody can load and modify the code in Visual Studio, but I want people to be able to execute it. Is there a way to do this? Similar to generating a exe file?
SSIS package created from the wizard couldn't be run from the visual studio editor? The run button is disabled. Is it not possible to run from inside editor as well?
when i start SQL Server business intelligence developer and create new Integration Service project, i will see following error:
Error loading 'Package.dtsx' : Object reference not set to an instance of an object.. C:SairiMy DocumentsVisual Studio 2005ProjectsIntegration Services Project12Integration Services Project12Package.dtsx
this error occures just on my PC and i reinstalled VS2005 and SQL2005 again and unfotunately the problem existes.
please someone helps me (just don't tell me to format my PC!!!)
I used to write DTS Scripts in SQL Server 2000 and schedule them as jobs with out problem.
This was normally done within SQL Server its self.
Now that I've moved to using SQL Server 2005 I've been learning how to use SSIS.
I've successfully developed a package and managed to create a .dtsx file. Now I have 2 large books on the subject of SSIS but none seem to go into any detail on what to do next.
So here€™s my newbie question (I apologise if I sound dumb!):
I don't want to run my package manually as the books keep telling me how to do.
I need to have my package added into SQL Server 2005 somehow and then schedule it as a reoccurring job.
I am having trouble with a dtsx package to truncate a table, then insert the contents of a .csv file. The package is being executed off the local filesystem, reading a csv on the same file system, and inserting into a remote SQL 2k5 server. If I run the package alone in BI it will run perfectly, if I implement the package into a console app in visual studio, it will trunc the table, but will not insert any of the data in the csv file. When running from DtExec I recieve the following error on the CSV portion after the table is truncated:
Code: 0xC00470FE Soure: Data Flow Task DTS.Pipeline Description: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_PRODUCTLEVELTOLOW. The product level is insufficient for for componenet "Soure - My_File_CSV" (1).
I have tried all the work arounds I can find without any luck. All help will be appreciated.
I had encountered an error on SSIS its not allowing me to create any new packages. Below is the error message. Please do help be out. This problem had occurred on my server machine

Is there a way to strip out the annotations from a dtsx package. I'm looking at quite a few and would like to automaticly pull those out and store them somewhere in either a table or a text file.
Is this possible or am I going to have to hand copy them out?
I'm trying to create a simple .dtsx package that imports data to SQL server 2005 from an informix 7.3 db using an ADO.net ODBC connection. I am first creating the groundwork for the dtsx package in SQL server using the wizard, and then editing the file later in visual studio.
My data source SQL in the dataflow task is simple and it works great until I hit a locked record on the Informix database.
select <coulmns>
from <table>
Where <condition>
The work around syntax for the locked row on the informix DB should be:
set isolation to dirty read
go
select <coulmns>
from <table>
where <condition>
This syntax will return the data correctly using a non-microsoft SQL editor, however it will will not parse corectly within visual studio. Interestingly enough, in visual studio I can parse the islolation and the select indenpendantly, just not in the same statement.
Has anyone come across this before? Any ideas on what I can do to resolve my problem?
When I try to run a DTSX package from SQL server agent, I get this error message:

All my other packages run fine. This one contains an FTP task and will not run, although it will run if I execute it through the visual studio.
I have now created a few simple SSIS packages. In BIDS I right-clicked on a solution and selected "Build". I went to the "bin" directory hoping to find a standalone ".exe.dll" file but found only a ".dtsx' file.
Can BIDS can actually build a standalone exedll or is the .dtsx file all that's available? (If so, I guess that another program is expected to invoke the .dtsx file.)
I am trying to build a package that is comprised of 100+ dtsx packages but cannot seem to get it to work. I have created a new connection where the connectionmanagertype = file and the file path is equal to the folder in which my dtsx files are located. I (location = fileSystem). No matter what I do I get an access denied error that shows the folder location but no package. I manually typed the name of the package in the PackageName property and have pasted in the PackageID in the appropriate property as well but I don't see anything in the PackageNameReadOnly. I have read the MSDN information but I don't see a step by step way to build a package of packages against which I can compare. Can anyone set me straight?
I have a SSIS package that I want users to be able to execute by clicking a button on an a web page. The package does not require any parameters to be passed to it. Previously I've executed DTS packages without any problems but after a fair bit of investigation and trawling the net I've not found a way to do this successfully with SSIS. Some code I've tried - Dim app As New Application() ' ' Load package from file system ' Dim package As Package = app.LoadPackage("c:ssisPackage.dtsx", Nothing)
'package.ImportConfigurationFile("c:ExamplePackage.dtsConfig") 'Dim vars As Variables = package.Variables 'vars("MyVariable").Value = "value from c#"
Dim result As DTSExecResult = package.Execute()
lblResult.Text = "Package Execution results: {0} " & result.ToString() All I get is a message 'Failure'. Does anyone have an example of how to do this?
SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005. An OLE DB record is available. Make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides.".
The above path "I:...." is mapped on the server that SQL Server is running on.
This package runs with NO problems in MS Visual Studio.
