SQL 2012 :: Database Mail - Test Email Works But Jobs Won't Send Out Notifications
Oct 19, 2015
I am trying to send out notifications when jobs complete (fail or succeed). I have database mail working fine on my DEV server, but I am having issues with it on my PROD server. I am currently having people look into if McAfee may be blocking it.
I am able to send out a test email from SSMS>Management>Database Mail, but when I set a Notification for a job, the job will complete and in the history, it will say "NOTE: Failed to notify 'User' via email."
I have created an Operator and set up Profiles and Accounts, just as I did on my DEV server.

In the notifications tab of the job I have e-mail operator selected. Click on the box with the elipses to enter the email addresses. It will let me enter 2 email addresses in the e-mail name field. It looks like the field has a limited length...is there a way to manually enter several addresses?

I have a sql server 2000 sp3a box with 4 named instances.
I have read all of the articles and I cannot get the 'send mail' stuff working.
I have a mailbox associated with the Domanin account that starts the sql server and sql server agent services. I installed Outlook and created a mail profile for this account. I bounced the SQL server agent on one of the Instances but when I go into the properties for the Agent, on the General Tab, the option to choose a mail profile is GREYED out. I tried 'xp_startmail' and I get this error: xp_startmail: failed with mail error 0x80040111
can anyone help???????

I have been using database mail for quite a few years now. I started using it with SQL Server 2005 and then it worked fine. Then we went over to SQL 2012 and the problems started. At first I could not get any e-mails out and read a post by Microsoft that a patch needs to come out but not available yet. That was in 2012. Presumably the patch came out with windows updates and my DB Mail started working. Now, however, I have the problem that some e-mails do get sent but the majority failed.
I use this so that whenever a user captures certain data to update a person's status on the database then an automatic e-mail will be sent to that person to inform them of their status at this company.

We have (running SQL 2012 Std) and have enabled trace flag 1204 and 1222 for capturing deadlock through extended events. I have enabled deadlock notification through email .But it only send deadlock event occurred notification from the sql server error log . I was wondering if its possible to email the deadlock details they get generated in extended events via DB mail.

Hello I am receiving the dreaded mail error listed above. I can send out a test E-mail from Enterprise Manager to operators, but I cannot run this Transact query:
EXEC master.dbo.xp_sendmail @RECIPIENTS = araz***@***.com(removed email address),
@SUBJECT = 'test'
I receive:
Server: Msg 18025, Level 16, State 1, Line 0
xp_sendmail: failed with mail error 0x80040111
I have stopped/restarted the SQL SERVER AGENT but haven't done much else as I haven't been able to.
Should it work through transact SQL if the test email works from Enterprise Manager?
This is SQL 2000 SP4 running on Win2K in the domain. Thank you.

Kind of a newby sql question, but here goes:I have a sql 2005 database that I have a job that runs Sunday morning at 12:30 am. I set it up using SQL Svr Mgt Studio 2005. Under the Management directory I set up Database Mail to work with my local SMTP server. I can send a test email just fine.I then set myself up as an operator with my email address. (Under operators directory) I then went back to the properties of the job I set up, and under 'notification', chose e-mail operator (me) when Job Succeeds. The job runs, itt suceeds, but NO email!It flat out won't work. there are NO entries in teh( email) log for errors either. Anyone? TIA Dan OR is it better to script these jobs using xml? I don't have time to learn a new thing right now, just need it to work!

I am implementing a fax solution (Right Fax) and pulling email information from a table and passing into a variable. In order to send out a fax via email, the syntax is in the following example below:
Example:
To send a fax from Outlook to Jane Doe at 555-1212, enter:
[RFAX:Jane Doe@/FN=555-1212]
When the following syntax gets passed into the Send Mail Task, into the "To" line and the package is executed I'm receiving the following.
[Send Mail Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "The specified string is not in the form required for an e-mail address.".
[Send Mail Task] Warning: The address in the "To" line is malformed. It is either missing the "@" symbol or is not valid.
I realize it’s a malformed email address. Is it possible to create a group and instead of the fax syntax pass the group name?

Hello
I have got a script which gives the mail to the dba mail box when database backup fails.
In the script I want to make a change so that I get the particular database name , on what ever database i implement.
Can you tell me some suggestions.
The script I am using is :
use master
go
alter PROCEDURE dbo.SendMail
@to VARCHAR(255),
@subject VARCHAR(255),
@message VARCHAR(8000)
AS
BEGIN
SET NOCOUNT ON;
DECLARE
@rv INT,
@from VARCHAR(64),
@server VARCHAR(255);
SELECT
@from = 'testsql2000@is.depaul.edu',
@server = 'smtp.depaul.edu';
select @message = @message + char(13) + Char(13) + @@servername + '-'+ db_name()+ '-' + 'Backup Status Failed' + Char(13)
EXEC @rv = dbo.xp_smtp_sendmail
@to = @to,
@from = @from,
@message = @message,
@subject = @subject,
@server = @server;
END
GO
--- After the above script is run the following should be given in the 2nd step when
--- the backup jobs are scheduled ------
exec master.dbo.sendmail
@to = 'dvaddi@depaul.edu',
@subject =' Test sqlserver 2000',
@message = '' ;

I need to setup an email alerts with Jobs errors ( with error logs is it possible ) on nightly basis.
example:
Job name : Full backup | Status : Error | error log : 'The job failed 12........'
Job name : Delta Backup| Status : Error | error log : 'The job failed 123........'
Job name : Cleanup DB | Status : Error | error log : 'The job failed 1234........'
What's the easiest way to do that ?

Hi all
I have heared that there is way to use SQL SMO (SQL Management Objects), or other third party tools running on a management server to send out an email or some kind of notifications if a database is locked.
Anyone knows how to do that in SQL Managment 2005.
Thanks

I have attempted to report out errors at the end of an ETL process by alerting supporting DBAs of errors using the SSIS "Send Mail Task". Task completes along with the sequenced packages, but does not mail anything out. No logic at this time for trigger, just success from the previous task triggering the task to send mail. I also get no errors in the output, and I get no output indicating the send mail task fired, but it does go "green". Do I have to enable database mail and have privileges?
Component Configuration:
SMTP Connection Manager - SMTP Server: arsocex02
Send Mail Editor -
From: messerj@arsocdev.bdev.lab.mil
To: sanderss@arsocdev.bdev.lab.mil
MessageSourceType: Direct Input
Expression: MessageSource = "Package>>> " + @[System:ackageName] +" was executed at>>> " + (DT_WSTR, 40) @[System:tartTime] + " by user>>> " + @[System::UserName] + " on Machine>>> " + @[System::MachineName] + " Errors reported to ERRORS_COURSE_CLASS_STATUS_T: " + (DT_WSTR, 50) @[User::ErrorCourseClassStatus]

Here's the scoop, and I've seen several posts to this effect but none of the solutions have worked.
Enabled database mail. confirmed profiles and can send test database mail from Query Window. I can also right click Database mail and send test emails. Configured valid operator using same email address for the test emails above.
Enabled database mail profile under SQL Agent properties > Alert System.
From what I've seen, the test button is supposed to be greyed out, and it is. However alerts do not send emails operator.
I've done this
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms186358(SQL.90).aspx
and this
http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=322173&SiteID=1
and have bounced the Agent after each change but still no mail from the Agent.
I've tried select * from sys_mail_event_log no errors.
For the life of me, I can't see why the Agent won't send mail.
Help.

Hi everyone,
I'm having problems sending my query results as a csv file. Ideally I would be able to send my results from a sql job every night as a csv but I'm having problems doing it. My code is shown below
Code Block
EXEC msdb.dbo.sp_send_dbmail
@profile_name = 'admin'
,@recipients = m@m.com
,@subject = 'Notification Created Today'
,@attach_query_result_as_file = 1
,@body_format = 'text'
,@query ='
select
a1.c#, cli, fe, type, dateReq, p, (select convert(varchar(50),convert(money,amount),1)), (select convert(varchar(50),convert(money,vat),1)),(select convert(varchar(50),convert(money,total),1)), cReq
from Disb_1 a1 inner join Details on a1.c#=Details.c#
where datediff(day,getdate(),dateReq)=0 and dateReq <= getdate()'
I've tried many different things and been through the parameters of sp_send_dbmail but I just cant find anything.
Also, how can I use column names for those money conversions? At the moment it just says 'no column name'
Thanks,
Steve

Some packages I develop have a lot of steps, and some people like myself can go crazy with email notifications, depending on the graph, I sometimes add notifications (success/fail) at the component level, so I can know what happened to that SSIS package from my blackberry and immediately log into the VPN and fix the issue.
The only problem that I have with that is that sometimes, like right now, I see myself adding 6 "send mail tasks" to SSIS packages, one pass/fail for each component.
Basically, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or suggestions, ideally I wish I could create one single send mail task that could be reused by other components on the package and just update the message/subject through expression and variables.

I will have to write my own procedure to do it instead. Can anyone point me in the direction of some good resources where I might get some info on how to do this?

I have set up database mail which sends internally but not externally on the xyz domain its uses mailrelay address to comunicate with exchange. The receive connector is set up correctly on exchange on domain abc as I have managed to send email from a sql server to external contact in the abc domain.
The IP addresses are correct on the receive connector.
The problem is I am unable to send to an external contact from the sql server in the xyz domain. Not sure if this an exchange issue or database mail.
