SQL Server 2012 :: Handling Flat File Destinations Dynamically?

Feb 5, 2015

After performing a join operation on two tables i get the below resultset

pid, fname, typename, pname, pcost

1, cad, bars, product-1, 100

2, har, witte, product-2, 120

3, nes, bars, product-3, 119

Now i need to create files with the obtained resultset like

Column 'fname' is the folder name and 'typename' should be the file in the particular folder.

For example the first record should be inserted into file name 'bars.txt' in the folder 'cad' and third record should be created in file name 'bars.txt' in the folder 'nes'.

Can I Implement A File System With SQL Server Similar To Oracle Content Services?

Apr 29, 2008

I need to implement a file system for an application that allows me to roll back to a point in time. I can do this with either a journaling file system (Unix based such as JFS) or with a database file system such as Oracle Internet File system (now Oracle Content Services). I would MUCH prefer to use SQL Server but cannot find anything that supports this other than a 2000 ppt referencing the then up and coming SQL Server .NET File System.

The application(s) in question are older and store data in proprietary data files and need to access a local (or mapped) drive in standard form (d:programsmyprogram).

Does SQL Server 2005 or 2008 support this type of access? I have searched but cannot find anything to support this.

Thanks.
B.W.

DTA Package Handling Multiple File Formats

Jul 23, 2005

Hi,Currently we get data from more then 200 different sources and all ofour vendors provide data in different file formats. The problem is wehave more then 100 DTS packages now and the maintainance is verydiffucult.Every time our vendor changes the format we have to change in multipleDTS packages.Is anybody know what would be the right way of reducing the no. of DTSpackages.The type of file formats we get are .xls .txt .dat .csv etc. and .txt& .dat files comes with different delimitters. The # of columns alsovaries from file to file. Is it possible to have a DTS package whichcan handle diff file formats and loads data into a staging table andfrom there based of the source of the file we can move data intorespective tables & columns.We are using SQL SERVER 2000Thanks in advance.Subodh

How To Change Report Headers And Footers Dynamically From ASP.NET

Jan 21, 2008

Hello All,

I have designed some reports and kept these reports in the report server.

My question is: I want to change report header and footer values dynamically and save the new values in the report template, when the user enters new velues in ASP.NET GUI.

Next time if the user opens the same file the report should display the recent values.

Please help me in passing the parameters from ASP.NET app to SQL Reports and saving the parameters in the report template.

Thanks,

SQL Server 2012 :: Dynamically Grow A Data File?

Dec 5, 2014

Is it possible to dynamically grow a data file for TempDB?

I have some TSQL that I want to execute (this is raw tsql, not something I'd typically share) when I get an alert that TempDB is growing.

SET NOCOUNT ON;
DECLARE @TempDB TABLE (FileID tinyint, name varchar(50), size bigint)
DECLARE @TotalSize decimal(19,4), @TotalFiles int, @CurrentTempDBSize bigint, @SQL varchar(1000), @DBName varchar(50)
SET @SQL = ''
INSERT INTO @TempDB

[code]....

ENDThe code runs fine, but doesn't actually increase the size of the file.

File System Task - Multiple Renames

Nov 20, 2007

Hi SSIS-fellows!

I am stuch at a problem that sould be very simply but it is not. At least for me

Here is the initial state:
Working folder: E:123DTS and E:DTSArchive
files: akarmi.zip, akarmi2.zip (there are one-one mdb files inside)

What I want to do with the package:
a) unzip the first file (there is an unzip.exe for this task)
b) rename the unzipped mdb (its name can be anything) to default.mdb
c) use the mdb with another package (that is not yet designed so I haven't added this one)
d) delete the default.mdb
e) move the first zip file into E:123DTSArchive
f) do a-e with all other zip files in the folder (so only once more in this case)

What I did:
1) I created a foreachloop container to do these with all the zip files, I correctly configured the enumerator to *.zip and created a user::zip_files variable
2) put an unzip ExecuteProcessTask. Its argument was the user::zip_files variable (this worked great)
3) I created another foreachloop container because I don't know how to rename the only existing mdb file in the folder (I wasn't able to use wildcards here)
3.1) this time the enumerator was *.mdb and the variable was user::mdb_files
3.2) I put a file system task into the container to rename that mdb file to default.mdb. I used variables for source and destination, too. Source variable (SourceRename) was an expression made of WorkingFolder variable (that was E:123DTS) +

user::mdb_files. This supposed to work but didn't When I put the exact name of the mdb instead of the user::mdb_files variable it worked without any problem.
4) another 2 file sytem tasks to move the original zip file into the E:DTSArchive folder and to delete the default.mdb file
5) end of the loop

I had problems with task 3) I even tried to make it run separately but without success

I would think that the solution is very simple. I would be grateful even if someone just send or upload me a package that renames every mdb file in a directory into default.mdb (it might sound stupid but if there is only 1 mdb that's okay and since this container is inside another the other default mdb files can be overwritten after using them in another package).

I've uploaded my packages with the files here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/mrd2jh

I was dealing with this one all day (with some interruptions) and I can't believe it can't be done.

Thanks in advance,

MartinIsti

SQL 2012 :: DBCC Shrinkfile Empty File Not Distributing Data Evenly In Primary File Group With Multiple Files

Apr 29, 2014

Why shrinkfile empty file does not redistribute data evenly in the primary file group with multiple files:

Please run the script attached to see what the end result is.

This is what I set up last night on my test machine.

1) Create database [FGTest] size 200MB
2) Create table called TEST on primary
3) Insert 40MB of data into test
4) Create another file group called temp in primary size 200MB
5) Shrinkfile('FGTest',emptyfile) so that all data is transfered from FGTest into temp file group.
6) Add another 2 files called DATA2 and DATA3. Both are 200MB.
7) We now have 3 empty files that I want data distributed evenly on. FGTest, DATA2 & DATA3
8) Shrinkfile('temp',emptyfile) to move all the data from temp over the 3 file groups evenly

I would expect at this stage to have the following:

FGTest = 13MB,
DATA2 = 13MB,
DATA3 = 13MB

(40MB of data over 3 files should be about 13 MBish in each file)

What I actually end up with is this:

FGTest = 20MB
DATA1 = 10MB
DATA2 = 10MB

It looks as though SQL Server is allocating 50% of all data to the original file and then 50% evenly over
the remaining files in PRIMARY.

I have a directory with images and a table in my DB with the path of each file. The main application allow me to create reports where I can display an image, so I was thinking to use a query like:

SELECT [ID]
,[PT_CODE]
,[FILE_PATH],
CASE WHEN [FILE_PATH] IS NOT NULL THEN
(SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET(BULK [FILE_PATH], SINGLE_BLOB) TT)
END
AS IMAGE_LOADED
FROM [DB].[dbo].[TABLE_MR_FILES]But I keep getting the error:

Incorrect syntax near 'FILE_PATH'.I have try multiple combinations without luck to make the OPENROWSET read the path stored in the column [FILE_PATH]. What am I missing?

Note: I am using MSSQL 2012. I don't want to import the images into the DB just load them in the fly as needed by the report runned from the application. I have full access to the DB so if a store procedure is the solution I can go with it.

SQL 2012 :: SSIS Package From File System Run As Agent From Job Step On Secondary Node

Sep 23, 2014

I have created a Test SSIS Package within BIDS (VS 2K8, v 9.0.30729.4462 QFE; .NET v 3.5 SP1) that connects to our Test Listener.

There is only 1 Connection Manager Object, and OLE DB Provider for SQL Server.

The ConnectionString lists: Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Integrated Security=SSPI

The Test Connection within BIDS works.

The Package Control Flow has just 1 Object, and Execute SQL Task that performs an Exec on an SP that contains only a Select (Read).

The Package runs within BIDS.

I've placed this Package within a Job on the Primary Node. Ive run the job successfully using 32 bit runtime on and off. The location of the file on the server happens to be on a share that resides on what is currently the Secondary Node.

When I try to run the exact copy of this Job on the Secondary Node (Which has been Set up for Read All Connections; Yes), I get an error, regardless of the 32 bit runtime opiton. At this point, the location of the file is on the Secondary Node.

The Error is: "Login failed for user 'OurDomainAgent_Account'".

The Agent is a member of NT ServiceSQLServerAgent on both instances, and that account is a member of SysAdmin. Adding the Agent account as well, and giving that account SysAdmin, makes no difference either.

Why can't I get this to work?

Transact SQL :: Combining Multiple Similar Queries

Nov 20, 2015

I have to run this 3 times for similar but slightly different parameters. I only change the very top peice of code slightly each time:

1.  Partition by Forename, Surname, DOB, Postcode
2.  Partition by Forename, DOB, Postcode
3.  Forename, Surname, DOB.

As you can see very subtle change, ideally I'd like to find a way to run just one report where all of the above occur, the issue I face running separately is one person may appear on 1 or more giving duplicates.

USE HealthBI_Views;this bit below is basically grouping my output on Forename, Surname, DOB & Postcode. What the whole process is trying to achieve is to show where a patient which has all of the above fields identical but has a different patient identifier suggesting that the service has allocated to unique identifiers to the same person which will result in both records needing to be merged.

WITH cte
AS (SELECT *,
COUNT(HEYNo) OVER (
PARTITION BY Forename, Surname,
DOB

[code]...

--- this bit below is simply showing all instances where the above criteria is met and there are more then one instances.WHERE countOfHeyNo > 1
--- The final output display all patient identifiable information from the MF_PATIENT table so that the report can be created in SSRS and run routinely by the Data Quality Team who can then investigate each occurance.

Updating Similar Multiple Table In Different Databases Automatically

May 16, 2008

Hi Guys

I have 4 databases in the same space.My users use all of them and use the same username and password to log into these 4 databases.In each of these databases,i have put a control table to allow me to keep track of all users that have to reset their passwords.

The control table consists of the username and flag fields.When the flag is ON(1) the user is forced to reset thier password and if the flag is OFF(0) they are not.

When a user logs into any one of these databases and they have to reset thier password,how do i make sure that all the other tables in other databases are also updated to make sure that the user is not forced to reset their password again when they log into those other databases later since they are using the same username and password for all databases.

I am planning to use a stored procedure which i will put into all the four databases and when a user logs in and has to reset their password,that sproc is called and automatically updates all the other 3 tables in other 3 databases.

Some SQL examples will be very appreciated.

Thanks.

SQL 2012 :: Execution Plan With Many Similar Missing Index Messages?

Oct 30, 2014

I'm in the process of trying to optimize a stored procedure with many queries. The execution plan provides a missing non-clustered index on nearly every query, and they're all fairly similar. The only real difference between them are what's in the INCLUDE statement. The two key columns are listed in every missing index. Let's say each query is approximately 5% of the total batch and 90% of the queries all fall into the category I listed above. How should I go about creating the missing indexes? Create all of the missing indexes or create one generic one that has all the INCLUDE columns? Create a minimal index with just a few of the common INCLUDE columns?

Here's an example of what I'm talking about with the missing indexes:

/*
USE [DB]
GO
CREATE NONCLUSTERED INDEX [<Name of Missing Index, sysname,>]
ON [dbo].[TABLE_1] ([COLUMN_A],[COLUMN_B])
INCLUDE ([C4ABCD],[C4ARTX],[C4ASTX],[C4ADNB],[C4AFNB],[C4BKVA])
GO
*/
/*

The Query Processor estimates that implementing the following index could improve the query cost by 99.9044%.

*/
/*
USE [DB]
GO
CREATE NONCLUSTERED INDEX [<Name of Missing Index, sysname,>]
ON [dbo].[TABLE_1] ([COLUMN_A],[COLUMN_B])
INCLUDE ([C4ARTX],[C4ASTX],[C4ADNB],[C4CZST])
GO
*/

/*

The Query Processor estimates that implementing the following index could improve the query cost by 99.5418%.

*/
/*
USE [DB]
GO
CREATE NONCLUSTERED INDEX [<Name of Missing Index, sysname,>]
ON [dbo].[TABLE_1] ([COLUMN_A],[COLUMN_B])
INCLUDE ([C4ABCD],[C4ARTX],[C4ASTX],[C4ADNB],[C4AFNB],[C4BKVA])

BCP To Csv (that Part Is Ok) WITH Dynamic File Headers And Footers (NOT Ok)

May 5, 2008

Hi All.
I am building an SSIS job that will export some data to a csv then ftp it to a remote site.
I have been able to create the csv alright, but I need to add header and footer lines to the csv.

The header must be:

Filename+ crlf (will not change)
File type+ crlf (will not change)

Create date+ crlf (obviously changes) -- format is mmddyyyy as text

And the footer is:

Filename+ crlf (will not change)
File type+ crlf (will not change)

Create date+ crlf (obviously changes) -- format is mmddyyyy as text

Total rows+ crlf (obviously changes)

So I need to first open the file, count the number of rows, then add the header and footer lines.

I would like to do this as a step in ssis, as a function (not by calling a compiled assembly or anything like that). I have no experience with vb.net, and haven't been able to find any snippets on the web that seem to work. Can anybody lend a hand? thx. David

Reporting Services :: Parsing SSRS Config File And Dynamically Changing File Path Of Config File In Code

Sep 2, 2015

Currently have a single hard coded file path to the SSRS config file which parses the file and provides the reporting services web service url.  My question is how would i run this same query against 100s of servers that may or may not share the same file path as the one hard coded ?

Is there a way to query the registry to find the location of the config file of any server ? which could be on D, E, F, H, etc.

I know I can string together the address followed by "reports" and named instance if needed, but some instances may not have used the default virtual directory name (Reports).

Am I going about this the hard way ? Is there a location where the web service url exists in a table ? I could not locate anything in the Reporting service database. Basically need to inventory all of my reporting services url's.
