SQL 2012 :: Enable Catalog Startup Auto Execution For SSISDB After Creation?
May 31, 2014
There is a checkbox when you create an SSIS catalog which says "Enable automatic execution of Integration Services stored procedure at SQL Server startup". It's a good practice to have this option on. BUT! How do you verify whether this option is ON or OFF after you have created a catalog and how do you enable it if it wasn't enabled at the time of creating the catalog?
Whenever you connect to a database server that is running SQL 2012 integration services, then you right click on SSISDB, choose "Reports, then Standard Reports, then Executions" there is a display of each execution and options to drill down.
There is a particular execution that when I click to see "All Messages" I get a blank screen in SSMS with the following error: "Error: and error occurred during local report processing. --> An error has occurred during report processing. --> Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown."
Before I go add more memory to this SQL box, I need to understand how an out of the box, canned SSRS report such as this, which is built into Integration Services could produce this issue?
By my customer, the jobs scheduler tool is Control-M.
I haven’t seen information about the SSISDB catalog but just the “old/classic” deployment for SSIS package on a SQL Server through msdb in the Control-M Documentation.
I writing a new achitecture concept for this customer with the SSISDB catalog.
How Control-M can work with a SSISDB architecture?
comparing UNIQUEIDENTIFIER columns..This query returns several rows where the [ReportId] and [LastRunDate] columns are both NULL:
SELECT [c].[Name],[c].[ItemID],[xl].[ReportID] , MAX([TimeStart]) [LastRunDate] FROM [dbo].[Catalog] [c] LEFT JOIN [dbo].[ExecutionLogStorage] [xl] on [c].[ItemID] = [xl].[ReportID] WHERE [c].[Type] NOT IN (1,5) -- Not a folder or a data source! group by [c].[Name],[c].[ItemID],[xl].[ReportID] order by 4
However, trying to just list catalog reports with no execution history returns 0 rows, but I'm expecting it to return a row for every NULL [ReportId] from the above query:
SELECT * FROM [dbo].[Catalog] WHERE [Type] NOT IN (1,5) -- Not a folder or a data source! AND [ItemID] NOT IN (SELECT [ReportID] FROM [dbo].[ExecutionLogStorage])
I even tried casting [ItemId] and [ReportId] columns in the 2nd query to VARCHAR(255), and still got no rows, but the following queries return 0 rows and 1 row (respectively).
select * from [dbo].[ExecutionLogStorage] where [ReportID] = '0BB2209C-7736-46C8-AD02-4614EBA4F0F1' select * from [dbo].[Catalog] where [ItemID] = '0BB2209C-7736-46C8-AD02-4614EBA4F0F1'
"SSIS 2012 Catalog doesn't have option to give read access to SSIS Catalog to view package run reports" ... Any luck allowing power developers / operators access to READ the SQL 2012 SSIS Execution Reports without granting them SSIS_Admin or Sysadmin?
According to this link posted back in 2011 (w/ Microsoft's feedback in Nov 2011: "We’re closing this issue as “Won’t Fix.” At this point the bug does not meet our bar for resolving prior to SQL Server 2012 RTM. As we approach the SQL Server 2012 release the bar for making code changes gets progressively higher." URL....Regarding Permissions to SSIS Catalog, here are the findings. We can give access in three ways:
1. READ Access – We can provide a user db_datareader access. With this the user can see the objects within the SSIS catalog database, but cannot see the reports.
2. SSIS_ADMIN – Add the user to this database role in SSISDB. With this the user can view the reports. But it also provides them privileges to modify catalog information which is not expected. We can add it using below script EXEC sp_addrolemember 'ssis_admin' , 'REDMONDPAIntelAnalyst'
3. SYSADMIN - Add the user to this server role. This will make the user an admin on the SQL server. This is not intended. Is there any method available which will have provision to give read only access to see SSIS Catalog package execution reports and not having modify Catalog access.
During the installation of the SSISDB in SQL 2012 AG, the password used to encrypt the database was not preserved. Now when the server is failed over, the SSISDB on the new primary node is not use-able.Document the password and decrypt after using the master key after failover.
We seem to be having a rather strange issue. We just finished migrating from 2000 to 2005. I've been working on converting packages from DTS to SSIS. Everything has been going well in testing, but a problem has shown up going into production. The first package I deployed ran significantly slower on the production server, going from about 7 seconds to 90 seconds. The production server is much more powerful, so this was rather confusing. The major difference is that the server is running 64 bit.
After searching around, I haven't found much that is helpful. To test things out, I created a blank package that does absolutely nothing. All it contains is a single connection manager (OLE DB). Executing this package takes 45 seconds. If I remove the connection manager, it executes in 0.1 seconds. Setting DelayValidation to TRUE has no effect. If the connection is to a nonexistent server, or if an incorrect login is used, the execution time is still 45 seconds. Adding a second connection manager increases execution time to 75 seconds. The package runs on my local computer in 0.1 seconds.
Any ideas what could be going on here? I cant believe that no one would have seen an issue like this. Is there some sort of strange configuration issue going on here?
I need to extract the .ispac file from the SSISDB. I can retrieve the stream with catalog.get_project sp. However, the file I end up with cannot be unzipped, giving an error message. My guess is that it is meta-data on the zip/ispac file that has a problem, because I can actually unzip it with Winrar, but not with any of those I (programmatically) need to unzip it with.
Below is the code for my stored procedure - My own suspicion is in the BCP usage to turn the stream into a file.
USE [SSISDB] GO ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[spGetIspacFile] @project VARCHAR(255) , @environmentFolder VARCHAR(50) , @ispacTempFolder VARCHAR(100) , @ispacFilePath VARCHAR(200) OUTPUT
When i run it from sql server data tools on the test box it runs fine. However when i run it from the ssisdb directly i get the below error.
reload table tablename1 from Excel file:Error: The "filetoload.Outputs[Excel Source Output].Columns[Product]" failed because truncation occurred, and the truncation row disposition on "filetoload.Outputs[Excel Source Output].Columns[Product]" specifies failure on truncation. A truncation error occurred on the specified object of the specified component.

In SQL Server 2008 when I click the middle button I could scroll up and down(scroll wheel) by just flicking the mouse. We just upgraded to 2012 and I can't do that on my Lenovo ThinkPad. I am using an external wired usb mouse(Intelli Mouse) to scroll.
I have SQL server 2008 and 2012 installed on the same machine scrolling works in 2008 but not in 2012.
I've done already the schemas for all the tables a you suggested. But when I created a new table the dbo prefix (dbo.ADM.NewTable) appears.I'd like this dbo not to automatically appear whenever i created a new table — as it requires me to alter whenever I created a new table. Is this something that is required to determine the creator of the table?Otherwise, I'd like that to remove.
Since upgrading from SQL Server Management Studio 2008 R2, I've noticed that it no longer autosaves queries that have not been manually saved first. If a file has been manually saved the autorecover files end up in the following directory:
%appdata%MicrosoftSQL Server Management Studio11.0AutoRecoverDatSolution1
However, I have ended up in the situation where I have unsaved queries when my computer has crashed and have not been able to recover them.
I have also found references to .sql files stored in temp files in the following directory, but the files here seem to be very haphazardly caught:

Is there a way to trigger the execution of a procedure when a database is created ? We're using this 3rd party system in which you only specify the database server. Whenever the users create a new "Storage Area", the system actually creates a new database.
I need to handle backups for that system so I want to create a procedure that will generate a backup device and backup jobs automatically whenever a database is created.
I will also need 2 procedures to handle database renaming and deletion. I searched around but can't find a way to trigger the execution of my procedures.
We have an SSAS instance where when we run the query "select * from $system.discover_traces" the creation time in the resultset shows a different time from when we actually started the trace.
for example if we have create the trace at 3.30pm it shows 7.35 pm in the Sql server management studio resultset when we run the query "select * from $system.discover_traces".
Some file names listed could not be created. Check related errors.

I did not have remote connections enabled yet, so the resolutions I have found that include sqlcmd or starting in single user configuration are not working. Any way that might allow me to restore the usual tempdb settings, which I think would allow SQL to start again?
database : MS SQL server ver 6.50.201 problem: server startup / server time out details SQL server shows usage of 100 % CPU utilization, if started automatically / manually. and does not proceed / hangs up(server time out), but win nt operates extremely slow.
The background of the situation in brief is as stated below. The errorlog was found to have the messages warning : OPEN OBJECTS parameter may be too low. Attempt was made to free up descriptors in localdes() Run sp_configure to increase parameter value.
Error : 644, severity : 21, state; state 1 the non clustered leaf row entry for page 2 row 1 was not found in index page 40 indexid 2 database 'tempdb'
Error : 2620 severity 21 state 3 the offset of the row number at offset 32 does not match the entry in the offset table of the follwoing page : page pointer = 0x1395800, page no= 40, status = 0x2, objectid = 1, indexid = 2
Action taken I used the sp_option to increase the open objects from default 500 to 1000, and the LE threshold maximum value to 400 from the default 200. after which I used reconfigure go and restarted the computer to take the effect. The following did work fine and server was working ok. But then from yesterday I am having the problem that the MS SQL sever is utilizing the cpu to 98 - 99 % and I am not able to connect to the server. I tried to start the server with the minimal configuration by specifying the -f option in the service manager start up options, it showed the following message 00/12/07 10:40:49.73 ods Unable to connect. The maximum number of '5' configured user connections are already connected. System Administrator can configure to a higher value with sp_configure. 00/12/07 10:40:50.02 ods Unable to connect. The maximum number of '5' configured user connections are already connected. System Administrator can configure to a higher value with sp_configure.
afterwhich I tried with the option of starting the sql server with the option -c -f which in the event detail of the win nt shows "mesg 18109: Recovery dbid 6 ckpt(55813,8) oldest tras= (55813,0)"
The open procedure for service "MSSQLServer" in DLL "SQLCTR60.DLL" has taken longer than the established wait time to complete. The wait time in milliseconds is shown in the data. DB-LIBRARY error - SQL Server connection timed out.
The dbid is / was 6 for both the instances, the database which is having this dbid is database name "AM" and is having above 1300 tables (approx) what could be the problem and solution for it? kindly help me out of this situation.
If any more information is needed please contact me on devendrakulkarni@yahoo.com / devendra@me.iitb.ernet.in
I am running a package in the catalog. The package contains a c# script that uses FTP webrequest. It runs fine in SSDT. Trying to execute from the catalog the ftp list directory is timing out.
This seems to be a firewall issue. We have tried adding an exception for dtexec, but that did not . I am thinking another program runs the package, maybe ISServer.exe?
Any program that would need the firewall exception to run the package in the catalog?
In cases when the SSIS package has to be deployed in SQL Server, when we use ProtectionLevel ="server storage" while creating SSIS Catalog, does it use TDE? or Database Standard Encryption? if the database is using TDE?

It is my understanding that when having LinkedServers, the option "enable promotion of Distributed Transactions for RPC" should be set to TRUE, so we can rollback , if needed, remote transactions. At least, that's my understanding of that setting.
Having said that, the TRUE setting is affecting this particular TSQL code, inside an sproc, which I would prefer not to alter:
Insert into #TempTable EXEC ServerB.MyDatabase.MyStoreProcedure @param1= '', @param2= '' When set is set to TRUE (current setting) I get this error:
OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI11" for linked server "ServerB" returned message "The partner transaction manager has disabled its support for remote/network transactions.". Msg 7391, Level 16, State 2, Line 28
The operation could not be performed because OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI11" for linked server "ServerB" was unable to begin a distributed transaction.
SQL 2012 SSIS package.I have a package connection that has the initialcatalog set in the connection string/properties page. This package connection also has an expression defined to set the initial catalog at runtime according to a passed in parameter. It works fine.
I am trying to create a second package in this same manner, but the connection does not seem to want to keep both the hardcoded initialcatalog and the expression to set it dynamically.
I can hardcode the initcatalog just fine, when when I add the expression to set it dynamically later, it clears out the initialcatalog I added.
What am I missing, why was I able to do this in the other package? I compared as much as I can think of between the two packages, all seems similar.
I was reading this blog below about Indexed Views and needed some clarification.
When the author choose to create the unique clustered index he excluded the PER.BusinessEntityID columns and only included, (CustomerID, SalesOrderID, ProductID).
Why didn't the PER.BusinessEntityID get added?
[URL] ....
CREATE VIEW Sales.vSalesSummaryCustomerProduct WITH SCHEMABINDING AS SELECT CUST.CustomerID , SOH.SalesOrderID , SOD.ProductID , SUM(SOD.OrderQty) AS TotalOrderQty ,
I need to find all the index and the creation date. I did cross apply of sys.objects & Sys.indexes on name column. I am getting some but the team is saying they created so many. Any other option to find Indexes and their creation date?
I have 2 dbs (SQL 2012) - one contains a trigger that is enabled/disabled by a procedure in the other database. This all works fine.
If I create a Database Project solution in Visual Studio 2012 SSDT (or 2013) for both databases, the stored procedure generates a SQL71502 stating that my trigger name can't be resolved.
To recreate the issue:
CREATE DATABASE DbWithTrigger GO USE DbWithTrigger GO CREATE TABLE dbo.TblWithTrigger( Id int NULL, SomeValue varchar(30) NULL
1. Create a new solution with a project named DbWithTrigger 2. In project settings set the Target platform to SQL 2012 2. Import the DbWithTrigger db into this project 3. Create a new project named DbCallsTrigger 4. In project settings set the Target platform to SQL 2012 5. Import the DbCallsTrigger db into this project 6. Add a Database Reference in DbCallsTrigger for DbWithTrigger
When you build the solution both dbs build successfully, however there are two warnings. One is easily resolved by replacing DbWithTrigger in the body of the procedure with [$(DbWithTrigger)] (db variable name for the reference) but I can't find out how to get rid of the other. Is it a bug?
