Aug 23, 2013On the SQL Server the Event Viewer shows the same messages and errors every evening between 22:05:00 and 22:08:00. The following information messages are shown for every database:
"I/O is frozen on database <database name>. No user action is required. However, if I/O is not resumed promptly, you could cancel the backup."
"I/O was resumed on database <database name>. No user action is required."
"Database backed up. Database: <database name>, creation date(time): 2003/04/08(09:13:36), pages dumped: 306, first LSN: 44:148:37, last LSN: 44:165:1, number of dump devices: 1, device information: (FILE=1, TYPE=VIRTUAL_DEVICE: {'{A79410F7-4AC5-47CE-9E9B-F91660F1072B}4'}). This is an informational message only. No user action is required."
After the 3 messages the following error message is shown for every database:
"BACKUP failed to complete the command BACKUP LOG <database name>. Check the backup application log for detailed messages."
I have added a Maintenance Plan but these jobs run after 02:00:00 at night.
Where can I find the command or setup which will backup all databases and log files at 22:00:00 in the evening?

I have created two backup devices for this database ("asset") through enterprise manager.

I have total 9 databases out of which only this database throws error. All other database backups going fine.
Here is the query that I am using to backup the database and Log.

Backing Up: Dumps Vs SQL Backup Agents Using BackupExec
May 31, 2000I'm going back and forth on an issue and was looking for some outside observations. I have over a dozen SQL NT servers, both 6.5 and 7.0. On some servers I'm dumping the databases and backing up the dumps with Veritas BackupExec, on 4 (two SQL 6.5, two v7) I'm backing up with the Veritas SQL Backup Agent.
Obviously, if you don't have room to dump a database, you must use the backup agent. That is the case on one of my servers and becoming so on a second. But my personal preference is to do the dump/backup.
(as a side note, one server is not backing up correctly with the backup agent but ultimately that box will require it due to DB growth, so it is something that I have to resolve)
I like the dump system for a few reasons. I find it easier to load from a dump, particularly a single table. Likewise, I find it easier to copy a database by loading from a dump rather than going from a backup, but that's mainly because of BackupExec being a little bit strange on redirecting restores.
Here's my clincher. I find restores via the backup agent to be ridiculously slow. Let's say I have a 5gig DB that has 1.5gig in it. The dump size will probably be somewhere below 2gig. The restore via backup agent carefully writes the entire 5gig even though 3.5g of that is empty. This takes a lot of time. Add to that the "post-restore DBCC". I had such a restore take something on the order of 13 HOURS which, needless to say, conflicted with my nightly DBCC's and backups.
OK. End of rant. Any suggestions or thoughts on the subject?
Difference Between Backing Up To A File And A Logical Backup Device?

If I point the logical backup device to a file on the filesystem, it's same as backing up to a file? isn't?

DB is in SIMPLE recovery mode (total size 124 GB). Log file Initial size is 650 MB auto growth set for 500 MB.
Below is the error I am facing.
Could not clear 'DIFFERENTIAL' bitmap in database 'DBSAPCAD' because of error 9002. As a result, the differential or bulk-logged bitmap overstates the amount of change that will occur with the next differential or log backup. This discrepancy might slow down later differential or log backup operations and cause the backup sets to be larger than necessary. Typically, the cause of this error is insufficient resources. Investigate the failure and resolve the cause. If the error occurred on a data backup, consider taking a data backup to create a new base for future differential backups.
A nonrecoverable I/O error occurred on file "//SQLDIFF/SAPCAD_DBSAPCAD.bak:" 995(The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request.).BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally.
In the weekend we faced an error on the DB backup.Drive K got full because of database log file grown and we have 4 MB free space left. I have no option to increase the drive space nor the log file size.
I am unable to perform, full or differential backup for this db.

For instance, if you have tlog backups being taken every 10 minutes and you stop the SQL Server Service for say 30 minutes. Would this action break the backup chain? Or would everything return to normal once the SQL Server Service is restarted?

Jun 9, 2015I am running backups on SQL Sever express and I take backups via the batch file executing the TSQL as below. This works perfectly fine, I just need to be able to spool out the backup completion log. What TSQL command can I use to do that?
My batch file looks like this:

Usually if we schedule the backups using the maintenance plan, we can chose reporting options that can spool the result of the backup to a text file. What is the T-SQL for the spool report to a text file.
This option produces a file that writes logs with the details I posted below. I would like to do the same or similar using T-SQL in my code.

Basically it`ll back up all the tables on your server and if the worst case senario happens then you can run the file like an install script. Is this true? It sounds invalueable! I've recently created a maintenance plan, which backs up my database and transaction log. However I also have a Veritas (Backup Exec for Windows Servers) tape backup which runs at night and backs up my files. It is setup to backup the whole of my MSSQL DATA and BACKUP folders.
Today I went to do a test restore, and found that the tape backup contained nothing in the MSSQL DATA folder, but everything that was in the BACKUP folder. Is this because everything in the DATA folder is in an open state? On checking back, the tape backup has never held anything in the DATA folder. Should I be worried by this, or is it what you would expect, and is the SQL backup sufficient?

Feb 2, 1999hi, I have total 45 GB of data in the following servers ( 40 GB in sql server 6.5, 5GB in ftp server). both servers are in one machine(server). I want to make sure that I am doing the right thing for backup. The machine is not connected to a Lan. What is the best way to insure that my data are backed up safely?
what I am thinking of doing is to back up the database to using sql tools in the menu bar, that will backup the data to the same machine in this directory:
c:mssqlackupDBname.DAT
I will do this for all database in the sql server. Am I save to do this... I am wondering what IF the machine in which both severs are in crashed. My backup effort will be lost too. right. so what is the best way to protect my data. Do I need to buy a tape backup so I can do what I am doing Plus back up the c:mssqlackupDBname.DAT to the tape backup... I would really appreciate any suggestion in choosing any media (software/ hardware)to back up my data.

Jul 8, 2006I am just getting started with MS SQL and am having to learn from scratch. I have a DB running with an ISP which I need to back up to one of my local machines. I have installed MS SQL Server 2005 and also MS SQL Server Management Studio Express. Using this, I have opened a new DB on the local machine and then accessed the DB on the remote server. If I then right click on the remote DB file and select TasksBackup, I see the backup options screen. The problem is that the destination for the backup is automatically set to a folder on the remote server and I cannot figure out how to change this so that I can download to the local machine. If I click on the 'Add' button to create a new backup path, it will only offer me a view of the remote machine, not the local file structure.
The solution is probably pretty simple, but after several hours of experimentation and searching for solutions, I still can't come up with the answer. Can anyone offer some guidance please (in idiot language - I'm new to this).

I get the error that "under the default settings SQL server does not allow remote connections".I connect to it fine from the Web Developer 2005 and my application . I followed another post's instructions where I enabled the TCP/IP and named pipes for "Protocols for SQLEXPRESS", but didn't work. In fact when I changed TCP/IP properties/ IP Addresses/TCP Dynamic port to nothing , and TCP Port to 1357, the server wouldn't start again !! (not doin THAT again)Regards Amanda

Nov 1, 2004My client is changing hosting providers. We are trying to download a full backup of our MS SQL 2000 database from the old host. We can get all of the data using the Data transfer wizard in Enterprise manager. We can get all data and structure using the Data Transfer wizard with other options. However, when we do this, all of our tables get renamed with a prefix that is our username from the old host.
So, if we have a table named customers and our MSSQL login on the old host is userA, then our table gets renamed to tableA.customers.
This won't work with our applications and stored procedures. Changing tens of thousands of lines of code is not acceptable.
Does anyone know a way we can get a full copy of the database (rules, data, structure, keys, identies, etc) without having the username prefix?

SQL Server Refusing Connections While Backing Up
Jul 31, 2007Hi,
We're running SQL Server 2005 (9.00.1399.06, RTM, Standard Edition (64-bit)). A couple of times each day, all connections to the server will fail, and this behavior coincides with backup activity. What tends to happen is that after performing flawlessly for hours, SQL Server will start rejecting all connections. Over the course of the next 30 seconds or so, several hundred instances of the following error message will appear in the Application event log:
"SQL Server failed with error code 0xc0000000 to spawn a thread to process a new login or connection. Check the SQL Server error log and the Windows event logs for information about possible related problems." Source: MSSQLSERVER, Category 4, Event ID 17189.
Immediately following these Error entries are Information entries that indicate some backup activity has been performed:
"Database differential changes were backed up. Database: [lots of db-specific details] ..." Source: MSSQLSERVER, Category 6, Event ID 18270.
As soon as the backups are completed, everything returns to normal and connections are once again accepted. The entire cycle takes less than a minute. Obviously, something is causing SQL Server to lock up and reject connections while it's backing up. Is there a setting that controls this, or does this behavior point to an overloaded machine?
We don't seem to be having any other performance problems at all, and there are no other Errors in the Application event log from SQL Server. If I perform a manual backup, I don't get any dropped or refused connections, even if I do it during peak query hours. So I'm stumped as to why the machine is locking up in this manner. Unfortunately there's no info in the EEMC about event ID 17189.
