SQL 2012 :: Search IP Ranges And Exclude

Jun 1, 2015

I need to remove some IP addresses from a total list of IP addresses. The ones I need to remove are in certain IP ranges. I could create a temp table with all these IP addresses I need to exclude.

Example IP Ranges:

128.134.2.100 to 128.134.2.200

135.234.12.60 to 135.234.12.120

210.10.140.150 to 210.10.140.200

SQL Server 2012 :: Exclude Rows Where Value In Column Not Found In Another Row

Jul 16, 2014

This is a followup to a previous question to a previous but in reverse of Find rows where value in column not found in another row

Given one table, Table1, with columns Key1 (int), Key2 (int), and Type (varchar)...

I would like to exclude any two rows where Type is equal to 'TypeA' and Key2 is Null that have a corresponding row in the table where Type is equal to 'TypeB' and Key2 is equal to Key1 from another row.

So, given the data

**KEY1** **Key2** **Type**
1 NULL TypeA
2 5 TypeA
3 1 TypeB
4 NULL TypeA
5 NULL TypeB
6 26 TypeC
7 NULL TypeD
8 NULL TypeD

I would like to return all the rows except where Key=1 and Key=3 because those rows together meet the criteria of Type='TypeA'/Key2=NULL and does have a corresponding row with Type='TypeB'/Key1=Key2.

SQL Server 2012 :: How To Exclude Row From Result Set Based On Condition

Sep 15, 2015

Lets say I have a set of columns as follows:

Table.Name - Table.ID - Table.Code

I want to write a query that will cycle through the results and if it comes across another record that has a matching Table.ID I want to exclude that row from the result set.

I am not all too familiar with how to use either a Case or If..Else Statement within a Sql statement that would accomplish this.

I need to then kill all sessions at 11:59pm then log all those that are killed. This is so I can schedule a job at that time, I have sessions that are blocking my job.

SQL 2012 :: SSAS Project Data Sources And Automated Deployment?

Mar 2, 2015

We have an SSAS project that we want to auto deploy. I am not sure how to handle the external data sources in the project. This one in particular has a single external data source defined to Microsoft SQL Server.

I would like to be able to change the data source based on the environment. In SSIS projects I can do this by setting up environments in the SSISDB and linking them to project parameters in the SSIS project but SSAS projects don't seem to have a similar mechanism.

How to handle this? I would like to be able to have the build/deployment agent pass in server / database information to the data source based on environment (dev, QA, production).

The only way to automate this that I've discovered is to have an intermediary process that executes after the build that updates the generated .asdatabase and .configsettings files in the bin folder replacing the connection string information.

DB Engine :: 2012 EE SP2 / How To Auto-kill Sessions That Overuse TempDB

Jul 15, 2015

We have SQL Server 2012 EE SP2 server that is getting hit by reports that time-to-time use up to 300GB of tempdb.

It's happening because our clients can use 'bad' parameters for some reports.

Is there a way to autokill sessions that overuse tempdb (for example, if a session uses more than 15Gb in tempdb)?

Killing can happen immediately or after regular check (5 min for example).

You Cannot Use KILL To Kill Your Own Process. Why?

Mar 24, 1999

I'm trying to kill a bunch of processes in SQL 6.5 and I can't. I'm running the only machine with SQL tools installed on it (the server) and it won't let me kill them. I try the GUI screens and the Kill statement in ISQL_w. Is there any way around this?

I've stopped the SQL Server and rebooted the NT Server. Is there anyway I can get rid of these processes. They are locking some tables and keeping me from inserting data within my code. Very frustrating.

Thanks

SQL 2012 :: DQS Built In Login Delete

Dec 4, 2014

I just started at a new job and they have DQS set up on our BI server. Some genius decided to delete [##MS_dqs_service_login##] login, the user dqs_service still exists in the DQS_Main db. The error log is full of errors similar to this one...

The activated proc '[internal_core].[ParallelExecutionActivator]' running on queue 'DQS_MAIN.dbo.ParallelExecutionRequestQueue' output the following:

'Cannot execute as the database principal because the principal "dqs_service" does not exist, this type of principal cannot be impersonated, or you do not have permission.'I have tried the standard exec sp_change_users_login 'Auto_Fix' with no success. At this point I don't think anyone is utilizing DQS.

SQL 2012 :: What Constitutes A Login Event

Mar 30, 2015

I set up a trigger to capture logins at the server level. This is part of some metrics I am putting together to properly set up load testing.

I am not surprised by the number of logins from the application logins, but what does surprise me is the number of logins from the various users that can query the production data.

As an example, my account has 1200+ logins for today only.

My first thought was that a process was set up to use my login by mistake. This also applies to some of the other users. But, there are no processes that are using any login except for the SQL service account or the applications logins.

What constitutes a login event?

SQL 2012 :: Secure Login To Database For Web Users?

Feb 21, 2014

We build up a new website in .net mvc 4.0 on a w2012 server with MSSQL 2012 database. We use windows autentification and normal anonymous access through NT AUTHORITYIUSR who is also a login in the database. But we make extra login possibility for users who are registered and they can insert and modify data in some tables in the database. And I'am afraid of giving NT AUTHORITYIUSR insert and update for some column in tables.I think of set up a new login for the database. Run a new connection string on login and set up special permission for that extra user on the database, and let the user become a member of the ordinary user on the database.

SQL 2012 :: Migrating Database To New Server - Map Login To Users

Mar 10, 2014

I am migrating a database TESTDB from SQL 2008R2 to a new server running SQL Server 2012.

Management has decided the current sql users should have "better" user names. So the login and username "BadUsername" on the old server should be called "GoodUserName". Goodusername should have the same permissions as Badusername.

I have now restored a backup from the old server to the new server.

I used the following script for creating the login:

CREATE LOGIN [GoodUserName] WITH PASSWORD=N'difficultpassword', DEFAULT_DATABASE=[master], DEFAULT_LANGUAGE=[us_english], CHECK_EXPIRATION=OFF, CHECK_POLICY=OFF
GO

Then I run the following script:

ALTER USER Badusername WITH LOGIN = GoodUserName, NAME = GoodUserName

But the results are not what I wanted. I now have two database users: Badusername and GoodUserName. I would have preferred if BadUserName was "replaced" by GoodUserName, but it won't be a problem if I have to delete badusername manually. Worser is that GoodUserName have NOT "inherited" any permissions from Badusername.

Is there an easy way to transfer permissions or do I need to loop through the permissions of badusername and apply those to badusername?

SQL 2012 :: Login / User Cannot Execute Or See Stored Procedures

May 6, 2014

We are using a third party tool that does not store passwords in an encrypted format therefore we created a user with minimal rights. Isn't there a way to grant "execute any stored procedure" to a user/Login? Do we really have to grant execute on each procedure to the user? And then do the same for each new store procedure? The only other option we have found to be able to "see" and execute the stored procedures is by granting "db_owner". I would think that would negate the user being minimal rights.
