View 2 RepliesHello !!!
I have 2 transactions, the first one has MANY updates to the table A and it finishes with a commit or rollback (ONLY AT THE END), the second one has only one insert into the table A that finishes with a commit or rollback, the problem is that the update process takes a long time to finish, and the insert process could be thrown during the first process, there's where I get everything locked cause the table A is locked and my java aplication gets stuck.
Note: When I execute each transaction independient I have no problems.
Is there any possibility to lock table A completly for the first transaction and release It for second one ??
Could you give me any suggestion of what to do step by step ?
Thanks !!!
Trying to get SQL 2005 to report dead locks via email.
I performed the following
Execute Sp_configure ‘blocked process threshold’, 200
Then generated a deadlock
BEGIN TRAN
UPDATE CUSTOMER
SET CUSTOMER_NAME = 'F'
WHERE CUSTOMER_ID = '1'
WAITFOR TIME '17:52'
ROLLBACK TRAN
Then on another query ran this
SELECT CUSTOMER_NAME FROM CUSTOMER
In sp_who i see it blocked. and the select is waiting for the update.
But i do not get anything reported in logs for the dead lock.
I tried to set up an alert.
MSSQL$ASRCFHSQL2005:Locks
Number of Deadlocks/sec
Total
rises above 1
When doing the reconfigure is something supposed to be written to the logs..........
Trying to set up system so if any dead locks arise i am sent an email
Thanks
Hi There,
I was updating a Custome Error Log table in different Data Flow Task in a Package. Custom log table is being used to log the Redirect Rows which sent by a component if it has errors. So I am catching the error raised by componets and putting them all into one table. I thing this could be the cause for the following error. I am not sure Please help me out. What could be the cause of this error and how to prevent it?
SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "Transaction (Process ID 71) was deadlocked on lock resources with another process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim. Rerun the transaction.".
Dear all,
I am build an application based on different WCF services which colect different type of data from an SQL database.
I can have up to 10 clients whcih could at a certain times collect the same data as a read or right operation.
I have run a test where I have only 2 clients, and I have been surprise to receive a nice error of dead lock process.
The error is as follow :
Transaction (Process ID 63) was deadlocked on lock resources with another process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim. Rerun the transaction."
In the store procedure which I am suspected, not sure yet, I have been advise to use the
SET TRANSACTION ISOLATION LEVEL SERIALIZABLE;
but no help
According to what I could notice in my application, I have one process which insert rows in this table, while clients read the same table..but I guess dead lock need to investigate in a more better way and handle it anyway...
I am not a databse administrator so I have no idea how to handle such situation.
Thnaks for your help

serge

HI,
i am updating one table, this transaction and another transaction
causing the Dead lock.
How i have to resolve a Dead lock issue.
--venu
I'm having a transactional replication which replicates data every 1min.... and i got a job which runs every 15mins and pulls the reports from source db which is being replicated.
Some times when the replication is pushing the data the same time the job is trying to generate reports and as the table is being locked at the time of replication the dead lock issue is rinsing and the job is getting failed.
Please some one help me in solving this issue.
Thanks

Hi,
Lets say I have table A and table B and another table AB where each row in AB refereces a row in A and a row in B. Furthermore, I set both relationships to cascade upon delete.
Then one user deletes a row from A which cascades to two rows in AB. But another user has deleted a row in B which is also trying to delete the same two rows in AB. The first transaction deletes one of the AB rows, the second deletes the other and then both transactions cannot get the other row in AB to delete because its locked. So this is a deadlock! Is it really that easy to get a dead lock?
Cheers, XF.
My Database has many Dead lock issues,Will this Dead locks cause Differential database failure ?.

How will i get object_name
for example if a table is being locked above sys tables give object id, how can i get the actual table name ( object_name)
Please let me know

Hi All,
Can someone tell me where the information about the permissions granted to a user are stored? For eg, user xyz in db1 has SELECT permissions on Col1, Col2, Col3 of Tab1 and UPDATE permissions on COL2 of the same table. Which system table(s) will hold this data?
I appreciate help in this regard.
Thanks !

Hi. New to ASP.NET and first time posting.
My web app connects to a SQL database - SQL authentication.
Users login to the web app through the login server control. Once authenticated, it is my understanding that the user name and password are stored on the client as a cookie.
How do you programmatically get this user info and use it for the userid and password parameters of the connection string?
Is there a better way to use the authenticated user info to access a SQL database?
Thanks
I would like to do a query that would give me the info twice, with just a small difference.
Let's say I have a table with elements A, B and C. Whatever it is, it does not matter.
I would like to get all the data so I just do that:
SELECT A, B, C
Then I would like to add a bit of text, so I'll add:
SELECT A, B, C, 'Text1' as D
The thing is that I would like every single elements (A,B,C) to be repeated twice: Once with Text1, once with Text2.
Let's say my data looks like that:
1 2 3
2 1 3
4 1 2
Then my query would give me this:
1 2 3 Text1
2 1 3 Text1
4 1 2 Text1
1 2 3 Text2
2 1 3 Text2
4 1 2 Text2
(in no particular order)
Is there a way I can do this in just one query?
While running SQL Server Profiler I reached some Lock:Escalations. When I searched for Statements having same SPID as Lock:Escalation event I realized that one of delete statements causes this. Is there any way to find out why lock escalation in such place occurres?
Statement is like:
delete from BOOK_IN_LIBRARY where libraryId in (,,,,); <-20 elements ids
CREATE TABLE BOOK_IN_LIBRARY(
[libraryId] [bigint] NOT NULL,
[bookId] [bigint] NULL,
[otherData] [bigint]NULL,

I have created a data repeater with a data source and want to select records by user, I know how to access the current user in ADO.NET but cant for the life of me see how I can access it with the data source wizard??

I've just written a query that successfully brings back the data from one table based on the information from another. Basically we have been given a table of information and need to update certain fields in our user_group table with the new info.
Here is the SELECT statement
SELECT user_group.id, user_group.name, user_group.description, Consultants.description AS Expr10, user_group.btype, user_group.rootmenu,
user_group.intra_user, user_group.primary_g_id, user_group.fname, user_group.lname, user_group.ntlogon, user_group.lang_id,
user_group.[external], user_group.title, user_group.work_tel, user_group.work_fax, user_group.work_ext, user_group.mobile, user_group.sex,
user_group.add2, user_group.add3, user_group.town, user_group.county, user_group.pcode, user_group.private_flag,
[code]....
We want to update the 'description' on the user_group table with the 'description' from the 'consultants' table. To test this, we only want to write the UPDATE so that it changes the description where the name is 'Adam Froth. The UPDATE statement that we've written is
UPDATE user_group
SET user_group.description = Consultants.description
FROM user_group
INNER JOIN Consultants
ON user_group.description = consultants.description
WHERE name like 'Adam Froth%'
but it keeps erroring and saying that it could 'Not be bound'.
I need to do some operations on a table when any user dont work with it.How do i do it?
Do i lock the table? and is it possible?(I dont want to deny permission from a user because cause error)
Can i do it with a open transaction ?
When I run the SQL Profiler to detect lock escalation, I noticed it detected a lot of lock escalation with the textdata indicating "create procedure" on certain stored procedure.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI need to do some operations on a table when any user dont work with it.How do i do it?Do i lock the table? and is it possible?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI open query analyser and on one tab I update a record in a transaction and hold it.
begin tran
update customers set territory = 'x' where customer = 'A00001'
--rollback tran
In a second tab I attempt to update all records in the table
update customers set carrier = ''
Clear this fails because of the lock placed during the first script and this is fine.
However, is there a way to get the 2nd script to ignore the locked rows and just update as many as it can? The obvious answer seemed to be the READPAST hint like follows…
update customers with (READPAST) set carrier = ''
…but this is still blocked by the original lock. I’ve tried combining it with all sorts of other table hints but all seem to get blocked.
The following does work, ignoring the lock and not returning the data
Select * from customers with (READPAST) where customer = 'A00001'
I’ve tried combining this with the update like so…
update customers
set carrier = ''
from customers with (READPAST)
where customer = 'A00001'
..but this is blocked too.
I’m so desperate I tried moving the update into a cursor and update one row at a time. Nothing worked. I thought I might be able to do something like this
If (Select count(*)
from customers with (READPAST)
where customer = 'A00001') > 0
--then perform update
..but this returns a value of 1 even though the following returns no rows.
Select * from customers with (READPAST) where customer = 'A00001'
I do have the following Extended Event session on my Dev box;
CREATE EVENT SESSION [sp_showplan] ON SERVER
ADD EVENT sqlserver.query_post_execution_showplan(SET collect_database_name=(1)
ACTION(sqlserver.plan_handle)
WHERE ([package0].[equal_uint64]([object_type],(8272)) AND [sqlserver].[equal_i_sql_unicode_string]([object_name],N'MyStoreProcedure')))
ADD TARGET package0.event_file(SET filename=N'E:DBA_AuditSP_Exec.xel',metadatafile=N'E:DBA_AuditSP_Exec.xem')
WITH (MAX_MEMORY=4096 KB,EVENT_RETENTION_MODE=ALLOW_SINGLE_EVENT_LOSS,MAX_DISPATCH_LATENCY=30 SECONDS,MAX_EVENT_SIZE=0 KB,MEMORY_PARTITION_MODE=NONE,TRACK_CAUSALITY=OFF,STARTUP_STATE=OFF)
GO
The idea is being able to capture the execution plan when the program invokes the store procedure, regardless of the database.
This works on my Dev box. When I manually trigger "MyStoreProcedure" from database A , the event is saved. The same thing happens when I do that from database B. Ok ... so far, so good.
So I went to the live production environment and setup my Extended Events session. But it's saving nothing. I was able to check that the store procedure was executed on several databases but my extended events session never grabbed the plan.
What could be the reason for this? Memory starvation maybe? Is there something I am doing wrong?
I have created some packages in visual studio and run the packages from there and they all run fine. I have then imported the THEM in SQL Integration services Catalogues and run the packages individually and they all run successfully. When I tried to create the job to run the packages in a scheduled job I get the following error messages: Backup database error: failed to lock variable "RunID" for access with error 0xc001001 "The variable cannot be found. This occurs when an attempt is made to retrieve a variable from the variable collection on a container during execution of the package and the variable is not there.....

What is this? How do I fix it? I get a ton of these and it slows down the server for 5 minutes.
An error occurred in Service Broker internal activation while trying to scan the user queue 'msdb.dbo.ExternalMailQueue' for its status. Error: 1222, State: 51. Lock request time out period exceeded. This is an informational message only. No user action is required.
Let's say I have a table of data as per the below..
I'm trying to extract only the green highlighted items..
The rules applied are: Only the latest data concerning all cases, and only 1 line (the latest) per case.
As you can see in the image, I don't want the 2nd,3rd, and 4th record extracted cause they are all superseded by more recent records (identified as they are further in the table).
I've considered using either Distinct or Having? but can't get that to work.. If I could use Distinct but then ensure it's the latest record in the table that would be perfect.
ALTER TABLE [dbo].[TableNameExample] REBUILD PARTITION = ALL
WITH (DATA_COMPRESSION = PAGE)
The table is 110 GB, so will take time to compress. But it is one table in a database with 60 tables. Why would executing this statement, cause lock timeout on Object Explorer in SQL Server Management Studio? Users cannot drill down objects in this database without getting lock timeout.
When I cancel the compression script, users of SSMS can access objects in this database again from the GUI. Why does compressing a specific table affect access to all tables metadata? I cannot find anything on the internet but I am sure this has happened to other people.
I need to search for such SPs in my database in which the queries for update a table contains where clause which uses non primary key while updating rows in table.
If employee table have empId as primary key and an Update query is using empName in where clause to update employee record then such SP should be listed. so there would be hundreds of tables with their primary key and thousands of SPs in a database. How can I find them where the "where" clause is using some other column than its primary key.
If there is any other hint or query to identify such queries that lock tables, I only found the above few queries that are not using primary key in where clause.
