SQL 2012 :: Full Text Engine Service In Windows Clustered Environments

In SQL Server 2005, the SQL Server full text engine (i.e., Microsoft Full Text Filter Daemon Launcher windows service) was installed as a Generic Service cluster resource in a Windows clustered environment.
However, in SQL Server 2012, the full text engine is not appearing as a "resource" within "Failover Cluster Manager" after installation. Do we need to manually configure the full text engine as a Failover Cluster Manager "resource" for SQL 2012? Or is this not necessary? If it needs to be configured, how do you go about doing it (i.e., what resource dependencies would you setup, etc.)

is there a way to turn off or reduce the logfiles of the MSSQL Full-text Filter Daemon Service?
The entries are very useless and on server with many databases and many fullindex tables it is very inefficient to write all these files (no SSD).

All,
I am looking at implementing some sort of throttling whereby "expensive" reports are setup as Subscriptions (and hence are run by the Windows Service), while all other requests go the Web Service.
My question is:
Do the two systems share any underlying systems? I understand (of course) that they use the same DB, etc. etc. However, I can't quite tell whether there is an underlying engine that is a common base or if they really just spin up different instances of the same objects and essentially each host the application separately?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

I've got MS SQL7 running on an MSCS cluster in an active/passive configuration (SQL runs on only 1 node out of the two nodes in the cluster).
I need to add Full-Text Indexing to SQL, and cannot find anything in the BOL on adding Full-Text Indexing to an existing SQL isntallation, let alone anything about adding it to a clustered intallation.
Does anybody out there have any experience with adding Full-Text Indexing to an existing SQL install, or better yet, to a clustered SQL install?

I am using SQL Server Enterprise 2000 and have created a full text search on the pubs database as per the instructions below:-

However, when I verify the search :-
SELECT title, notes
FROM titles
WHERE CONTAINS (notes, ' "quick easy" ')
no rows are returned.
In the full text tab under the pubs database, my demo catalog is listed, but the Item count and unique key count are both 1. There are 18 records in my titles table.
The full text files location is on my H drive which is set up as a dependency of SQL Server in cluster admin.
In SQL EM->Support Services->Full Text Search->properties, the location of my temporary files was set to C:winnt empgthrsvc. As nothing in cluster admin can see this directory, I changed it to H: emp but still no data is returned by the query. There is no default error log file listed and I can't work out how to change this.
I have checked the Search service is running under the local system account.
I can't find any error messages which may indicate a problem apart from the fact that the T-SQL query doesn't return any data.
Anyone any ideas? Any help is much appreciated.

Hi, though i've been using sql server 2000 developer edition for awhile, I guess i overlooked the fact that the full-text search tool was never installed and i never needed it until now. Anyway, tried installing it today and get this error:
Installation of Microsoft Full-Text Search Engine Package Failed (-2147220991) 0x80040201
An event was unable to invoke any of the subsribers
I have no idea what this means - can you help me to get this installed correctly? I did just install service pack 4, and i tried reinstalling the components, tried rebuilding the registery of the current instance, and even tried creating a new instance with hopes that the new instance would install the full-text component - which it did not.
Any suggestions? Maybe I have to unistall the entire Software and reinstall it? Would I lose any of my data in doing this? I should note that all other tools seem to function fine.

I have a database that has had a full text index at some point in it's history - but no longer does. The database is currently at SQL 2012 compatibility, but it was created on SQL2000. It still appears to have a row in the internal table sys.sysftinds - but some of the column values are NULL, and NULLs are not allowed. The database fails DBCC checks because of this.

I am working on a stand-alone windows application in which I need to provide full text search capability. I was using SQL Express edition and was planning to deploy the database (.mdf) with the application.
Is it possible to enable Full Text search for a database which does not belong to a database server (embedded with the app)? If yes the how can you do it?
If its not possible then what are the alternatives/options of data-storage for a windows app which will allow me to enable Full Text search?

Recently we have changed ISP and it seems like our SQL server is having problem starting the service for the Full-Text Service. It keeps saying that the account information is not mapped to the Security Identification Data. So, I tried reinstalling the FTS but it says that the FTS component already exists. What seems to be the problem here. I really need to get this service started....

I'm running sql server on XP at the moment. I want to make use of
procedures like FREETEXTABLE and CONTAINS for my local site search
engine so I need to have the full text search service installed. The
problem is that when I want to add this component by trying to use the
sql server standard edition cd the option that says 'Upgrade,remove, or
add components to an existing instance of sql server' is grayed out,
meaning I can't pick this option. What must I do to get this working

I have SQL Server 7.0 installed in a Fail-over cluster and currently, Full-text indexing is not installed, since our full-text index resides on a different physical server. In an attempt to consolidate our servers I am looking at installing full-text indexing on our cluster. I understand that there will probably be issues getting the Full-text indexing service to fail-over, but I'm not too concerned with that.
What I am concerned with, is, will I need to re-install the latest SQL Server 7.0 service pack? Does anyone know of any security holes with an un-patched version of the full-text indexing service?
Any advice on this situation is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi all
I've just had my admin guy start the Full-Text Search service (under Support Services) for a server here. Actually he did it a couple of hours ago. I've checked his computer and the icon shows "started" (ie green traffic light).
From my Enterprise manager, the Full-Text Search icon is still showing "stop" ie red traffic light. Yes, in case you are wondering, I've refreshed, closed and reopened Enterprise manager, and waited quite a while, but my code is definitely still failing on this. Identical code on an identical recordset in another server (which has the full-text icon "green") works fine.
I've already set full-text for the catalog and
SELECT fulltextserviceproperty('IsFulltextInstalled')
returns 1 for this catalog.
My quetion is: does enabling Full-Text Searching require a Server restart, or is there something else I can try first?

When I install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services SP2 on Windows Vista, Reporting Services and Full-Text Search are not being installed. My user account is configured as a Standard User. When I initiate the installation, I'm prompted for the password for the administrator user account.
During the System Configuration Check, I get a warning for the IIS Feature Requirement action. The associated message says: "Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) is either not installed or is disabled. IIS is required by some SQL Server features. Without IIS, some SQL Server features will not be available for installation. To install all SQL Server features, install IIS from Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel or enable the IIS service through the Control Panel if it is already installed, and then run SQL Server Setup again. For a list of features that depend on IIS, see Features Supported by Editions of SQL Server in Books Online."
KB Article 920201 ("You receive a warning message on the System Configuration Check page of the SQL Server 2005 Setup program on a computer that is running Windows Vista or a Server Core installation of Windows Server "Longhorn"") seems to address this issue. I used the Windows Features applet and selected all of the Internet Information Services items that were listed in the KB article; however, the "Windows Authentication" item was not in my list. ("IIS Metabase" and "IIS 6 WMI" were in my list but were worded differently--"IIS Metabase and IIS 6 configuration compatibility" and "IIS 6 WMI Compatibility", respectively--but I selected them both.) When I re-ran the SQLEXPR_ADV installer, I got the same warning...and Reporting Services and Full-Text Search were still not installed.
I went back into the Windows Features applet and selected all of the remaining unselected "Internet Information Services" items, and then re-ran the SQLEXPR_ADV installer. I got the same warning...and Reporting Services and Full-Text Search were still not installed.
It's frustrating that there is no obvious reason or error message as to why Reporting Services and Full-Text Search are not being installed. Are these features compatible with Windows Vista? Does anyone have an idea as to what the problem might be?

I am running SQL 2008 R2. I have SQL Full-Text Search installed (part of a standard Automated build) - but disabled and switched-off as the applications don't need it. However as a result I get SQL Server error 9954:
SQL Server failed to communicate with filter daemon launch service (Windows error: Windows Error: hr = 0x80070422(failed to retrieve text for this error)). Full-Text filter daemon process failed to start. Full-text search functionality will not be available.
appear in the event / error logs everytime I start SQL server. Is it possible to suppress this error (other than by starting the SQL Full-text service) ...

I€™ve been trying to add keywords to the thesaurus used for SQL Server 2005 Full Text services but do not seems to get any improved results.
For example, I have a catalogue of article titles which contains titles such as €˜CRM€™ and then some others use the words €˜Customer Relationship Management€™, the ideal solution I would have thought was SQL Servers thesaurus support, I€™ve been though and added the values:

<sub>customer relationship management</sub>
<sub>crm</sub>
</expansion>
to the txGlobal.xml file in the SQL Servers FTData directory, I then amended by test query to use this clause:
FORMSOF(THESAURUS,"CRM")
The idea being that when I search for CRM it will bring back articles with Customer Relationship Management also. However I€™m just getting results for the same results as for the word 'CRM' and no expansion is taking place it would seem.
Would anyone be able to clarify what the best approach to making this work would be:
Do I need to restart the SQL Server FullText service after making any changes to the XML files?

I've enabled full-text indexing on one of my tables, and the following query used to work:
SELECT *
FROM TempAttachment
WHERE CONTAINS(attachment, 'text')
However, now I get the following error:
Msg 9955, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
SQL server failed to communicate with Full-Text Service (msftesql). The system administrator must make sure that same service account is used for both services and the service account has the permission to auto start the full-text service.
I've checked the configuration and verified that both accounts are the same. I've restarted the services, and tried rebooting, and still no luck. I did a search on this error, and found this page from MSDN, which doesn't help me much: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa337365.aspx.
Has anybody come across this before? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am getting following error when query using a full-text index:

The execution of a full-text query failed. "Service is not running."
I have verified that
1. msftesql service is running,
2. I even rebuilt the full-text index and it didn't help
3. my full-text crawl job is running fine
4. my DB is full-text enabled
Can someone explain what "Service" the error refers to? I am using SQL 2005 Ent SP1.

Quick question about the primary purpose of Full Text Index vs. Clustered Index.
The Full Text Index has the purpose of being accessible outside of the database so users can query the tables and columns it needs while being linked to other databases and tables within the SQL Server instance.
Is the Full Text Index similar to the global variable in programming where the scope lies outside of the tables and database itself?
I understand the clustered index is created for each table and most likely accessed within the user schema who have access to the database.
Is this correct?
I am kind of confused on why you would use full text index as opposed to clustered index.

I'm totally stuck on this issue and would really appreciate any advice. Here's what's going on...
I'm trying to install SP2 on a SQL 2005 Std x64 cluster and all the components upgrade except the DB Engine, which fails with this error saying the domain group (not the service account) could not be validated for the full-text search service.
I've rebooted both nodes. I've verified that the domain group exists. I even removed the full text search component and I still get the same error.
I've reviewed this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/915846
But the ftsgroup registry value mentioned does not exists. I assume it only shows up after sp2 is installed.
Interestingly, I couldn't uninstall full-text search unless I passed the FTSCLUSTERGROUP parameter to the setup.exe command line remove command.
The OS is Windows Server 2003 Ent x64 SP2. Not a domain controller. I'm upgrading from the RTM version of SQL Server.
I've posted the relevant parts of the summary and log files below.

I have a handful of databases that are enabled for Full-Text search. After investigating some recent performance issues, I discovered the FullText Catalogs needed to be reorganized. This is a task I knew I wanted to automate, without having to hard-code db names or catalog names. My first thought was to use sp_executesql with dynamic tsql strings. I was quite disappointed to realize that I couldn't use fully qualified names to run either of these commands:
ALTER FULLTEXT CATALOG [DBName].[SchemaName].[CatalogName] REORGANIZE
ALTER FULLTEXT CATALOG [DBName]..[CatalogName] REORGANIZE
My next thought was to create a stored proc on each user db that would do the re-orgs. Then I could have a sql job iterate through the db's and run the sp on each db. Thinking...Hmm...That's do-able, but I don't like it. Add a new db to the server, and I have to remember to create the sp. Relying on my memory to do something isn't always a good idea. Plus, if I have to fix/edit/enhance the sp, I get the pleasure of doing it multiple times on multiple servers. Too much work.
I came up with some code that would dynamically reorganize all the catalogs, but I had to run it while connected to a specific db. How do I run the code while connected to [master], but in the context of a different db? The undocumented proc [sp_MSforeachdb] came to mind. I'd never used it, and was reluctant to do so after reading about other dba's experiences with it. So I came up with my own derivitive, just for this one purpose. The code is below.

Full Text Searches are working on my test server, but not on my production server. My test scenario is as follows:
CREATE FULLTEXT CATALOG FTC_Test
AS DEFAULT
AUTHORIZATION dbo
CREATE FULLTEXT INDEX ON guest.FtsTest(FullName)
KEY INDEX PK_FtsTest ON FTC_TestI wait briefly and then check to see if the index has been populated:
SELECT * FROM sys.fulltext_indexescrawl_end_date is not null,
So I'm assuming I don't have to wait anymore before I try some FTS searches. Right? I can't get any queries to return anything, though.
The following tells me the full text item count for the table is zero:

SELECT @TableId = id FROM sys.sysobjects WHERE [Name] = 'FtsTest'

I'm using the Full Text Search with the neutral language in the indexed columns. I have no stoplists so everything counts. We changed to neutral language because our customers don't have the need for language specific criteria. They just want raw text search.Everything was working great but then they found a term that they can't search and I can't figure out what's wrong. It comes down to this:

In the neutral language, the parser will return "3.4", differently than the English language parsing.In the 1033 language, the parser will break all the numbers into words and the result will show correctly.I really don't want to change the language from neutral because it's working for every other query.
