SQL 2012 :: Generate Scripts Result In Order Of Tables And Then Stored Procedures In Server
Sep 10, 2014
I have created one table and one stored procedure for to insert/delete/update the data in that table.
So,I was trying to move the scripts from one database to another by Generating Scripts options in SQL Server.
Generating Scripts:
Object Explorer --> Databases --> Database --> Tasks --> Generate Scripts
The generated script output is in a order of stored procedure first and then table.
REQUIREMENT: My stored procedure is dependent on table. So, I need the table script first and then stored procedure.
Note: I can generate two separate scripts for table and stored procedure, But in a just curiosity to know, Is there any way, can we re order the Generate Scripts output in SQL Server.

We need to create a pdf file from SQL server preferably from a stored procedure. Application will call the stored procedure and it should generate pdf. From my research it appears it can be done using various external tools with licensing/costs. But is it possible to do this within sql server database without additional costs? I read that this can be done by SSRS in SQL server but not sure if it is a good solution and if it is additional licensing..

CREATE TABLE #NAME1(FULLNAME VARCHAR (100))
INSERT INTO #NAME1(FULLNAME) VALUES('JOHN X. DOE')
INSERT INTO #NAME1(FULLNAME) VALUES('FITZGERALD F. SCOTT')
CREATE TABLE #NAME2(LASTNAME VARCHAR(25), MI VARCHAR(2), FIRSTNAME VARCHAR(25))
INSERT INTO #NAME2(LASTNAME, MI, FIRSTNAME) VALUES('DOE', 'X', 'JOHN')
INSERT INTO #NAME2(LASTNAME, FIRSTNAME) VALUES('FITZGERALD', 'F SCOTT')
My task is to find matches between these two tables on "name."

I have two tables to be joined
Doc:
ID, DivID
Division:
ID, Div
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Doc](
[ID] [int] NULL,
[DivID] [int] NULL
[Code] ...
As you can see, some Divisions have no correspondents in Doc, I want to show the count(1) result as 0 for those Division, and output the result in the order by DivID

Hi,
I was just wondering if something could be explained to me.
I have the following:
1. A table which has fields with data types and lengths / sizes
2. A stored procedure for said table which also declares variables with datatype and lengths/ sizes
3. A function in written in VB .net that uses said stored procudure. The code used to add the parameters to the sql command also requires that i give a data type and size.
How come i need to specify data type and length in three different places? Am i doin it wrong?
Any information is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Im using SQL Server 2000 with Visual Studio .Net using Visual Basic..

There are two ways to create a temporary tables in stored procedures
1: Using Create Table <Table Name> & then Drop table
ex. Create Table emp (empno int, empname varchar(20))
at last : drop table emp
2. Using Create table #tempemp
( empno int, empname varchar(20))
at last : delete #tempemp
---which one is preferrable & why.
what are the advantages & disadvantages of the above two types.

How do you find stale stored procedures ?
In a scenario where a developer created a slight modification of a stored procedure because he was afraid of breaking something else and took the easy way out, and a few more later down the line, multiple versions of a stored proc. doing slightly different things are just laying around.
"Last used" would be useful piece of information to determine the most recent date a stored procedure was called, either by the application itself or by another stored procedure itself called by the application.
Any stored proc not used for more than say 6 months would then be identified as a candidate for clean-up.
So - short or creating - after the fact - a trigger to update the usage date upon each call - which means a lot of work and no result for the next six months, how can one go about this ?
And could this be done in SS2K8 ?

Is there a way to combine 2 stored procedures with a different set off parameters.
Basically my 1st stored procedure has the following parameters:
1.@PlanID
2.@FinancialYearID
3.@RangetypeID
My second stored proc has the following:
1.@FinancialYearID
2.@IndicatorID
3.@VersionID
I have researched and so far nothing seems to be working. There is a conflict between the FinancialYearID of the 1st and 2nd stored procs.
My overall result is the combination of the 1st and 2nd storedprocs in 1.

This question is about SQL Server 2005:
I have been trying to figure out how to copy tables and stored procedures between 2 databases (on the same server) using SQL Server Management Studio. I have tried right clicking on the table name, "script table as", "drop to", "clipboard", then I click on the 2nd database, and then click on the "tables" . I change the name of the database and click "execute". This creates the table but does not copy the data. I have also tried "create to" "clipboard" and "insert to" "clipboard" and cannot seem to be able to figure out how to get the results that I want. I am new at this but need to get the tables with the data copied along with the stored procedures, even if I have to do them one at a time. When I was using SQL Server 2000, I was able to use DTS to copy objects to other databases easily. Can someone please tell me a way to accomplish what I need to do? I have gotten information here before that was very useful and was hoping that someone can help me again.Thank you so much. Carol Quinn

Hello:
We are presently testing various upgrade scripts to our current application which is scheduled to shortly be upgraded to mssql 7.0. We are testing under mssql 7.0,sp 2.
As it works now, I receive some existing scripts that have been modified and some stored proceures that are new. For the existing stored procedures, I usually take my best guess as to what the order of creation will be, test it in my script for recompile(actually all are dropped first and then the guesswork on the creates). This is usually trial and error as I run the script, see any sysdepends errors such as:
"CREATE PROCEDURE: ep_invoiceheaderformat_spv0101
Cannot add rows to sysdepends for the current stored procedure because it depends on the missing object 'ep_assumepay"
And then move the order of the create procedures around in the script and try again until I get a clean run in a test database I use just to syntactically test the scripts.
I looked at the sysdepends table for the database and pretty much decided that the object numbers and stuff was pretty much incomprehensible to me.
Alternatively I could compile each one separately but I would have the same problem subsequently trying to generate a script of the al of the create procedures... in the right order which would not
My question is:
1) Is there a way I can read and understand what the data means in sysdepends?
2) Figure out a way to utilize the data there to create or generate the create stored procedure text in the correct clean compile order?
3) Any other suggestions?
Any information which can be proveded will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

In SQL sERVER 2008, I have two fields - Depatment and Employees. I need to sort the result set by employee number ascending order, with following exception
1)when department number = 50 - the preferred order is Employee # - 573 followed by 551-572 (employee # belong to Dept 50 = 551-573)
2)When Department number = 20 – the preferred sort order is Employee # 213-220, followed by Employee # 201-213 (employee # belong to Dept 20 = 201-220)
How shall I achieve this?

Hello
I'm start to work with SSIS.
We have a lot (many hundreds) of old (SQL Server2000) procedures on SQL 2005.
Most of the Stored Procedures ends with the following commands:
SET @SQLSTRING = 'SELECT * INTO ' + @OutputTableName + ' FROM #RESULTTABLE'
EXEC @RETVAL = sp_executeSQL @SQLSTRING
How can I use SSIS to move the complete #RESULTTABLE to Excel or to a Flat File? (e.g. as a *.csv -File)
I found a way but I think i'ts only a workaround:
1. Write the #Resulttable to DB (changed Prozedure)
2. create data flow task (ole DB Source - Data Conversion - Excel Destination)
Does anyone know a better way to transfer the #RESULTTABLE to Excel or Flat file?
Thanks for an early Answer

i am inserting something into the temp table even without creating it before. But this does not give any compilation error. Only when I want to execute the stored procedure I get the error message that there is an invalid temp table. Should this not result in a compilation error rather during the execution time.?
--create the procedure and insert into the temp table without creating it.
--no compilation error.
CREATE PROC testTemp
AS
BEGIN
INSERT INTO #tmp(dt)
SELECT GETDATE()
END
only on calling the proc does this give an execution error

SQL Server 2000:Question 1If you drop / rename a table and then recreate the table with the SAMENAME, what impact does it have on stored procedures that use these tables? From a system perspective, do you have to rebuild / recompile ALL the storedprocedures that use this table?I had a discussion with someone that said that this is a good idea, sincethe IDs of the tables change in sysobjects and from a SQL SERVER query planperspective, this needs to be done...Question 2If you Truncate a Tables as part of a BEGIN TRANSACTION, what happens if anerror occurs? Will it Rollback? The theory is that it won't becauseTruncate doesn't utilize the logs where as Delete From uses the SQL Logs? Thanks!

I've got a number of stored procedures that I have for reporting
All are of a similar starting format
For easier maintenance and to take away the need to change all of them if the methodology changes I want to split out shared code.
What I want to do is to take out the part that populates the @ID1 table into a separate stored proc which will be called from the report procs. The values from the shared proc will then be parsed back to the reporting proc.
I thought about using a function but I don't think it will be flexible enough as in certain cases I want to parse 2 or more IDs back into the final output.
I also don't want to make the code too complex so that it is relatively easy to read
CREATE PROC dbo.ReportM1 @ID INT AS
DECLARE
@ID1 TABLE (ID INT PRIMARY KEY, UNIQUE(ID))
IF @ID = 0
INSERT INTO @ID1
[Code] ....
The first question I have is: can i do it with a table variable when going between procs or do i need to build a real table if i want it to maintain the logic in 1 place.
May be worth bearing in mind that the end user who will be executing the proc will only have read + execute stored proc access permissions so dropping, updating or creating real tables is not an option. #Temp tables are possible but since am using table variables throughout would prefer to stick with them.

How can I allow a user to run a stored procedure but deny them the ability to see it in SSMS?
I don't mean 'view def' permissions, I mean the actual proc.
I read about encryption which mask the contents but they can still see the proc, any other ways I can accomplish this?

Hello all!
What I need to do is take a site that I have and make 3 copies of it so I will have 4 separate sites with 4 separate DB's but running on the same server. One of the sites is complete but what I need to know is how do I make a complete copy of the DB including all stored procedures and populate a blank DB that has a different name with contents from the master DB???
So if DB1 is complete and I want to now populate DB2, DB3 and DB4 with everything from DB1 (tables, stored procedures, data etc.) what would be the best way to do this?
The new sites are already setup in IIS and I have already transferred the files to each sites root, so all that is left is to setup the new DB's. They are all running on the same server… I think that is about everything someone would need to know to help me!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi,
I am hoping someone can help me with creation of a stored procedure. What i would basically like to do is have a SELECT stored Procedure that gets values from one table and then uses these values to retrieve data from another table.
i.e. I would like to retrieve 2 dates from another table (the table has a single record that holds the 2 dates) then I would like to use those two dates to retrieve all records of another table that fall between those 2 dates.
As I know nothing about stored procedures I'm not even sure how to go about this??
Regards.
Peter.
