Case Expression Plus Outer Join In Ole Db Source

Oct 26, 2006

I'm trying to generate the data for a 2-column table, where both columns are defined as NOT NULL and the second column is a uniqueidentifier.

In SQL Server Management Studio, this works fine:insert into table_3(column_a, column_b)
select table_1.column_a, (case when table_2.column_b is NULL then newid() else table_2.column_b end) as column_b
from table_1 left outer join table_2 on table_1.column_c = table_2.column_c

That is, column_b of the SELECT result has no NULL values, and all 35,986 rows are successfully inserted into a previously empty table_3. (If I comment out the INSERT INTO clause and project table_2.column_b instead of "(case ... end) as column_b", the SELECT result includes 380 rows with a NULL in column_b, so I know the case expression plus the outer join are working as expected.)

But when I use the SELECT query as the SQL command in an OLE DB Source component that is connected directly to the OLE DB Destination for the result table, I get this error:There was an error with input column "column_b" (445) on input "OLE DB Destination Input" (420
The column status returned was: "The value violated the integrity constraints for the column.".

And sure enough, when I modify the result table to allow NULL in column_b, truncate it, and re-run the data flow, it inserts the exact same 380 rows with a NULL in column_b among the 35,986 rows.

So what is SSIS doing to screw up the results of the SELECT command???

Right Outer Join For Group

Dec 12, 2007

Hi,

In my database there are following two tables with sample data:

Customer_Product
=================
Branch Customer ProductID
B1 C1 P1
B1 C1 P2
B1 C2 P1
B2 C3 P2
B2 C3 P3

Product
=================
ID Name
P1 Prod 1
P2 Prod 2
P3 Prod 3

I need to write a query which can display the sum of each product for each branch. The required output is as follow:

Required Output
================
Branch Product Total
B1 P1 2
B1 P2 1
B1 P3 0
B2 P1 0
B2 P2 1
B2 P3 1

The Query I tried is:
SELECT Branch, ProductID, COUNT(*) as Total
FROM Customer_Product cp
RIGHT OUTER JOIN Product pd ON cp.ProductID=pd.id
GROUP BY Branch, ProductID
ORDER BY Branch, ProductID

But Right outer join act on Table level instead of Group. How can i generate desired output by keeping in mind that both Branch and Product are dynamic?

Thanks.

group by a.town, b.town

How to stop getting null values?

portsmouth null
portsmouth portsmouth
southampton southampton

TownA null
null TownB

I'm looking for distinct values like this:

portsmouth portsmouth
southampton southampton

Using An Expression To Group On Multiple Fields

Mar 23, 2008

I have an exisitng report that lists unit name, provider, runday, shift, patient. The report groups by unit name and there is a page break after each unit name. So in the current environment the report prints one page per unit that contains all of the providers, rundays, shifts, and patients for that unit name its grouping on. So the report would like like this when it prints:

Unit A
Provider 1 Runday 1 Shift 1

patient 1
patient 2
Provider 1 Runday 1 Shift 2

patient 1
patient 2
Provider 1 Runday 2 Shift 1

patient 1
patient 2
Provider 1 Runday 2 Shift 2

patient 1
patient 2
Provider 2 Runday 1 Shift 1

patient 1
patient 2
Provider 2 Runday 1 Shift 2

patient 1
patient 2
Provider 2 Runday 2 Shift 1

patient 1
patient 2
Provider 2 Runday 2 Shift 2

patient 1
patient 2
PAGE BREAK
Unit B............(repeat data from page 1)
PAGE BREAK
Unit C............(repeat data from page 1

The end user would like the ability to keep the report as is but would like to also be able to print the report as one page per each unit name, provider, runday and shift. so it would look like this

Unit A
Provider 1 Runday 1 Shift 1

patient 1
patient 2
PAGE BREAK
Unit A
Provider 1 Runday 1 Shift 2

patient 1
patient 2
PAGE BREAK
Unit A
Provider 1 Runday 2 Shift 1

patient 1
patient 2

So I created a boolean parameter with a prompt of Page break by Unit, Provider, Runday & Shift? My thought is if the users sets this to False, the report will group on just Unit Name (the first example). If the user sets this to True, the report will group on Unit Name, Provider, Runday & Shift.

I set the grouping expression for this data table as:
=iif(Parameters!Grouping.Value = "False", Fields!unit_Name.Value,(Fields!unit_Name.Value,Fields!Lname.Value,Fields!Rundays.ValueFields!Shift.Value))

Within the expression editor window it displays a syntax error and the report will not run.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!

SQL 2012 :: SSRS Average Column Group Value For Row Group

However I am unable to average that average over the whole Year for a Product. The issue being that I'm trying to combine Row Groups (Product) and Column Groups (Date/Year)

SQL Server 2008 :: Using Expression In GROUP BY Clause

Feb 23, 2015

I am working to move an application from MySQL to SQL Server. The person who developed the MySQL application has little database experience, and took some shortcuts that the lax nature of MySQL allows. One query with which I am struggling looks something like this:

SELECT StartTime + Offset, min(Sensor), max(Sensor)
FROM SensorData
WHERE SensorID = @SensorID AND
StartTime + Offset > @BeginTime AND
StartTime + Offset < @EndTime
GROUP BY (StartTime + Offset) / 100
ORDER BY StartTime + Offset

What we are trying to accomplish is to return minimum and maximum sensor values over a number of periods between the BeginTime and EndTime. When I run this query in MySQL on a sample dataset, it returns a small number of rows, with each one being the min/max values for a portion of the overall period.

Under MS SQL Server 2008, SP3, I get the two following error messages:
Column 'SensorData.StartTime' is invalid in the select list because it is not contained in either an aggregate function or the GROUP BY clause.
Column 'SensorData.Offset' is invalid in the select list because it is not contained in either an aggregate function or the GROUP BY clause.

If there is a 0 balance for both the book dollar and the net dollar the expression returns #Error.

I have made sure that if the value is null it should return a 0 in the initial query.

SQL 2012 :: Unable To Add Service Reference In A CLR Database Project?

I created a CLR procedure with a service reference in Visual Studio 2010 that is being used in SQL Server 2008 R2. We recently tried to deploy it to a 2012 SQL Server, but were unable to due to compatibility issues. When I tried to upgrade the package to Visual Studio 2013 I got this error message:

I tried to create this using the 2012 Data Tools, but was unable to add a service reference with the GUI. It appears Microsoft has removed this functionality. My company has a third party app that we have limited control over, which is why we need this functionality.
