We have request where client want to host both application server(IIS...etc) and MSSQL DB server on same machine. (DB is used for Time & Attendance tracking only, so there are not many transactions per day and No HA) .........
Do we have any disadvantages if we host both on same Machine.?

I'moving my asp application to a new hosting server.
So when i tried the setup locally with the live DB & application in my test machine...
The DB access is denied when application tries to hit the DB.
DB is in seperate machine with SQL Server 2000 & application(ASP) is in Windows server 2003.....
Kindly help me with your suggestions....on what went wrong?
I am developing an ETL system on a 32-bit machine let's say, called 'dwdev'. The application connects to a Sybase database as a source system using ODBC connection. I am able to run this application directly from Visual studio 2005 and i am able to deploy it into SQL Server 2005 and run it from Server as a job. Both work. At this server i am connecting to a SQL Server instance called 'dwdev'.
When i transfer my application onto a 64-bit machine, let's say called 'dwtest', i am able to run my application from Visual Studio 2005 properly and it works, but when i deploy it into SQL Server (instance is called 'dwtest') and try to run it as a job just like the development machine, it gives an error and stops executing.
I was facing 'data source' type of error when i was first trying it from Visual Studio, but i solved this problem by setting Run64bitRunTime settings to FALSE on the Project's properties Debugging Page, at 64-bit machine. now it uses 32-bit runtime then 32-bit Sybase ODBC driver. But i cannot force the application to use 32 bit runtime when i am executing it from SQL Server as a job.
How can i do that? is there an alternative method?

I wanted my application to run on another system.For that i have installed sqlexpress 2005 on that machine.But that machine doesn't show me any enterprise manager or query manager for sqlserver.
Is there any solution for this.

I have a procedure where after processing, i am required to send multiple message to calling application.
For ex:

I am only providing a sample of return messages, but in reality there a lot more messages where a string and a parameter value need to concatenated.Unfortunately print is not allowing to concatenate parameter value.I can use RaiseError, but these messages are not really any error messages.
i tried to concatenate all message and output it using OUT type parameter, but the length of all messages combined exceeds 10000 characters.
Is there any other alternate to send these messages out to application?
I have to create a query that will be returning the users and the application modules they have access for. Along with the list of users and modules the query should also return if any module is not accessible for that user.

I used pivot query but there are a couple of limitations in it(may be I am making mistakes in it). First, the pivot columns are static whereas I need dynamic column names(Application Modules). Second, I need to include all the users with all the modules with access or without access that I am unable to achieve.
We have an application that runs Jobs, each of which affect ## number of child objects (usually around 1M). When a thread gets to 5000 updated child objects it bulk inserts into a table called ActionLog with the child Id and JobId.
When the job is complete a sproc SUMs the children from the ActionLog table:
select sum(id) from ACTIONLOG where JOBID = @JobId;
It then updates the Jobs table AffectedObjectCount column with the sum(*) from above.
Instead of writing to the ActionLog table and calculating the SUM at the end I would like to do this 'real time'. After the bulk insert I would like to update the AffectedObjectCount column with the number of rows that were just bulk inserted. I tried this in the past and ran into major contention issues. There are usually 20 threads running a job so there exists a lot of potential for deadlocks.
Is there a recommended way to handle updating one column on one row from multiple threads? What is the best practice for a counter like this?

I need to set up web services locally on my machine.I am working in a team. They gave project that I mapped to my local drive and take the latest version and build the solution. Some of them are configured to use IIS. So before build the solution, in the IIS manager I created the self certificate and added https binding.
I am not sure after that what I have to do? How to test my web services are running locally or not?Do I need to do anything else to set up web services locally?
how to deploy web services on local machine. I created self certificate in IIS and then build the solution in the visual studio. After I build the solution, I found that automatically it created the virtual directories for the web services under the default website in the IIS Manager. When I click and select the browse it is not working.

We recently decided to "break apart" our BI environment. We used to have everything on one box, DB Engine, SSIS, SSAS & SSRS. Everything has been running fine, but we now have other projects using these services, so we decided to break them apart into their own boxes.
We now have DB Engine on one Server, SSIS & SSRS on another server and SSAS on yet another server, so we now have three boxes that replaced one box. All are Windows 2012, standard, 64-bit with SQL Server 2012 + SP1 + CU2.
Since some of our SSIS packages have to access external resources, we used a domain account for it's service account. The DB Engine and SSAS box are using the default service accounts when installed. I can execute the packages fine on the SSIS server, I can even execute them via SQL Agent jobs on the SSIS box (we did install a default instance of SQL on the SSIS box), however when I try to execute a package from my laptop, it fails with the ugly "Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON'".
I immediately double checked my SPNs and they all looked correct for the SSIS server and the service account we are using (and we had no duplicates). I also double checked the User Rights Assignment in the Local policy editor and all the correct Rights have been assigned (Log on as a service, Bypass traverse checking, Impersonate a client after authentication).

Every time machine is rebooted performance counters are missing.
select * from sys.dm_os_performance_counters returns no records. I execute "lodctr" command and get it back every time.
I would like to know the route cause of this issue, why it gets removed every time the machine is rebooted.

I am trying to install SQL Server 2012 onto an already configured and validated windows failover cluster (server 2012) but the process is hanging after installing the setup files.
The last entry in the log is:
running discovery on remote machine
and I've left it hanging like this for 4 hours and nothing happens.
I have a server that i would like to use as a dedicated DB Server. It is running Win Server 2k3 and SQL Server 2005. The typical upstream bandwidth is anywhere from 384Kb/s to 700Kb/s. Is this enough to host multiple SQL Server 2005 DB's?
The DB's will be used for database driven websites.
Please let me know what your thoughts are.

I have established roles to restrict access to the data
entry pages. The database is SQL Server which I've established on the hosting server. Security was previously maintained through
~/app_data/aspnetdb.mdb (MS Access). It works, but isn't too stable, so I have modified the security to use
SQL Server with an aspnetdb.mdf file, also located in the app_data
folder. Is this appropriate? Since it doesn't work, I assume not.It's now my assumption that I need to setup a SQL Server
database to support the security/roles. I have seen some reference to
using a script to build the aspnet.mdf on the hosting server. If
I do create such a database, is there anything special I need to do to
have my application read the aspnetdb? Do I need a connection string
in the membership and/or roleManager sections of my web.config.

I have been reading on aspnet_regsql.exe tool and still haven't found my answer. So here we go... I am using VWD Express and I have already made many pages in many dbs within the app folder. My question is how do I use the aspnet_regsql.exe tool to know what DB that I want the tool to know AND how do I put in the name of the DB on my sql hosting server? For instance:Let say in my app folder I have a DB named testDB.mdf and my hosting sql server is named sqlHostingServer... so if I use the command line entry in accordance with the documentation, it should look like this (in the dos prompt):aspnet_regsql.exe -E -S localhost -d testdb.mdf -A all -sqlexportonly c:output.sqlbut it seems that for the DB name I can put anything I want and still gives me output... wtfark... any help? I wonder if there will be problems when I want to deploy this app on a hosted server from a hosting provider. I have the impression that hosting a SQLexpress user instance is currently not supported by hosting companies. Is this correct? Should I revert to an msaccess database instead (we don't want to pay extra for full blown sql server storage).

I have a SQL .bak generated by our existing hosting package at 1and1.com, I want to import that SQL .bak to our new hosting package at ixwebhosting.com.
ixwebhosting.com don't have a import feature in their control panel.

I'm a web developer who writes transact-SQL to make my web applications run properly. I'm not real strong in other areas of SQL. Let me explain our set-up and then I'll explain what I want to do:
We have an ecommerce web site and all sales are saved in a SQL Server 2008 R2 database at our hosting company. We also have a local Windows 2012 network that has SQL Server 2014 Express installed.
Here is what I want to do:
I want to copy sales rows from the SQL Server 2008 database at our hosting company and save them in the SQL Server 2014 Express database on our local Windows 2012 server. I'd like to automate this if possible so that it happens each night perhaps. I know there is a way to schedule SQL jobs but I've never actually done this. I also would need to know how to attach to our hosting company DB as well as our local network DB.

I am new to database.
I have a website in a hosting environment and it uses sql server 2005 databases. I want to have a complete backup of my database in addition to the hosting company's routine backup. I want to write a program to automatically backup everything every night. And of couse have the ability to restored the whole database if necessary.
How should I do it? Are there any tools exist that I can use? What is the best way to deal with backup/restore in hosting environment?
