Methods Of Storing The Connection String In Package Configuration

Jun 23, 2006

hi!

I want to store the value of the Connection String in an Common table exisiting for the whole project and retrieve it for the whole package to Run. I want to know if there is a way of doing this.

I do not want to have a config file which is created trhough the package configuration.

In case of Parent package variable the Value of the variable needs to exist which again needs to execute the SQL Task which requires a connection string.

In case of Environment variabIe.I have very less knowledge about the environment variable . Even if we store it? how can we access it and change it in client place.

In case of SQL server . Can we store in an existing table. what is the configuration filter? what is the vlaue for it.

I do not want to execute any command line.............................

Thanks,

jazz

SQL Server 2012 :: Parsing XML That Does Not Quite Fit Normal XML Standards

Jan 21, 2015

I have an application that stores xml data in an unusal manor. Basically a SQL Key column and an XML string.The XML string is not really standard XML, but it is what it is, and I'm stuck with it. It is in the format;

<row key="Value.01" xml:space="preserve"><c1>FirstName</c1><c2>LastName</c2><c3>10 Street Address, City ST 012345-1234</c3><c4>5</c4><c5>50</c5><c6>500</c6></row>

I am able to pull values out via
SELECT
p.value('(./c1)[1]', 'VARCHAR(8000)') AS c1,
p.value('(./c2)[1]', 'VARCHAR(8000)') AS c2
FROM dbo.UserXMLTable
CROSS APPLY XMLRECORD.nodes('/row') t(p)
where p.value('(./c1)[1]', 'VARCHAR(8000)') like 'First%'

However I've been struggling with selecting row with a LIKE clause. Something like ;

SELECT *
FROM dbo.F_UserXMLTable
where XMLRECORD.value('(./c1)[1]', 'VARCHAR(8000)') like 'First%'

I have tried a number of permutations of XML syntax but so far have been stumpled.

Please note "<row key="Value.01" xml:space="preserve">" has a <SP> in the name 'row key' .

Replication :: Not Working After Password Change?

Sep 18, 2015

I have a publisher, distributor and subscribed in transactional replication topology, each on a different MS Windows 2008 server. SQL server version is 2008. I changed the password of the service account used to the the sql server and sql server agent services on all 3 servers. But now replication stopped working (Distributor to publishers shows errors in replication monitor for all publications).

I restarted the services and also tried restarting the servers. I did "update replication passwords" and also used sp_changereplicationserverpasswords to change replication passwords. But it doesn't seem to work.

From [MSrepl_errors], i get the below errors:

The process could not connect to Subscriber 'XXX'.

Cannot generate SSPI context

Change Datatype From Varchar To Bigint Not Working

Nov 14, 2007

Hello,

I would like to change the datatype on a particular column from varchar to bigint across 100's of tables within a database.

I have the command ready which is:

ALTER TABLE tablename ALTER COLUMN columnname BIGINT

The problem happening is that it seems there are constraints across all the columns in every tables.

The error message is:

Server: Msg 5074, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The object 'DF__tablename__columnname__0ABD916C' is dependent on column 'columnname'.
Server: Msg 4922, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
ALTER TABLE ALTER COLUMN columnname failed because one or more objects access this column.

I understand that if I delete this constraint, then it will let me modify the datatype of the column, but since there are tons of them and they are randomly named, how do I achive changing the datatype across multiple tables in bulk.

SQL 2012 :: Picking Number String Out Of Text String

or
"airplane:app.apx&resultid=123489,clientip"

I'm trying to pick out the numbers between resultid='...',clientip no matter what the rest of the string looks like. So in this example it would be the numbers:

1234
123
12389

the part of the string of the form resultid='...',clientip always stays the same except the length of the number can vary.

Setup And Upgrade :: Windows Authentication Not Working After Password Change?

Apr 29, 2015

This morning I attempted to connect to my local copy of SQL Server (2012) (Win 7) using Windows Authentication. I was unable to do so and per the error log it was due to error 18456 (invalid credentials).

Yesterday I changed my windows password. Is it possible for this to be the cause?

FYI, following is from the error logs:

The logs showed the error occurred yesterday (4/28) which is about when I changed my password. The 17:09 log (last one) is when I shut down my computer.  Note that I was logged into SQL Server when I changed my Windows password and worked with it several times through out the day.

Also, per the configuration manager SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) (and all other services) is stopped and I was unable to start it ("The request failed or the service did not respond in a timely fashion).

Connection String For SQL Server Not Working

Mar 17, 2007

I have the Visual Studio 2005 Team Suite trial version and the SQL Server 2005 trial (which came with team suite) installed in my machine.
When I installed the SQL Server 2005 I installed it in the Windows Authentication mode.  So every time I open SQL Server 2005 it doesnt ask for Username/Password (Its greyed out).  The only thing available were:
Server Type: Database Engine
ServerName: ServerSue
Authentication: Windows Authentication.
Here is my Problem:
I created a small application in C#.  In the web.config file I created the following:
<appSettings>
<add key="resumecon" value="SERVER=ServerSue;database=Resume;"/>
</appSettings>
Then in the Code behind I created the following string:
string strResCon = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["resumecon"].ToString();
Then in  method (for a Login page) I created the connection string as follows and wrote code to insert some values into the Resume database.  I called this method on a button click event.
SqlConnection conLogin = new SqlConnection(strResCon);
When I run the page and when I click the button I get the following error:
Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
I think some thing is wrong in the addkey of webconfig?  How do I change this?

Connection String Has Semicolon (;) - How On Earth Can I Get This Working?

Aug 3, 2007

Ok, here's my setup. I've got a named instance in a SQL 2000 cluster. I only have dbo rights on my database, because it is a shared infrastructure. Here's my current web.config connection string (the meat, anyway):
When I'm at the office, this is my connection string, pretty normal:
connectionString="Data Source=ServerNameInstanceName;Initial Catalog=blah..."
But, when I connect through the VPN, I can't just connect through the named instance - I have a specific port. This is where things get odd.
First, if I try to connect through SQL Server Management Studio (2005), i get nothing. If I try to connect using "ServerNameInstanceName, (comma) Port Number" it connects, but not to my instance. I get a seperate set of databases that I believe are in the default instance. So, I changed the comma to a semicolon (;) - and it still connected to the same thing - connected to the database, but to the wrong set of databases. So, on a whim, I tried plunking my string, which was now "ServerNameInstanceName;(semicolon) PortNumber" into the SQL 2000 Tools and it worked in both Query Analyzer and in Enterprise Manager. So, I thought, I'll just slam this into my connection string and all will be well. No. I can't use a semicolon in my connection string, and I can't find an escape character to use. Double semicolons don't work, a comma doesn't connect me properly, double colons don't work, the JDBC brackets don't work {} - so I'm at a loss. I'm out of ideas. I've set up aliases, and those don't work earlier.
I'm using ASP.net 2 with VB & C# and Visual Studio 2005 Professional. Thanks for any help anyone can give on this!

Change IP Address In A String

Apr 18, 2013

We got data from a dns server that looks like:

some columns.... |121.12.250.2.somestring......|

The ip address should look like 2.250.12.121:

We could use charindex, substring and len to cut the 4 parts of the ip and rebuild it in the right format.

Starts with
SELECT
CHARINDEX('.',mycolumn)
,LEFT(mycolumn, CHARINDEX('.',mycolumn) - 1) as part_four_of_ip
,CHARINDEX('.', SUBSTRING(mycolumn,CHARINDEX('.',mycolumn) - 1),len(mycolumn)
as position_of_second_dot
........ and so on.....

This will cause an awful long code. How to shorten that code?

How Do I Change The Default Collation String Of An Installation

Mar 22, 2006

HiWhen we installed SqlServer2000 we left the default collation name(Sql_Latin1_General_CPI_CI_AS).The user defined databases we created afterwards were defined with adifferent collation name in order to be able to accept the character setwe use, Hebrew.We are looking into switching DTSs that we use to copy data from ourmain system , that uses an Ingres database, into OSQL scripts. Althoughthe DTSs successfully copy the Hebrew letters when I copy data with OSQLit comes over as jibberish.After looking into the matter I came to the conclusion that while DTSrefers to specific databases and uses the destination database'scollation name , OSQL refers to the remote server and destination serverand therefore uses the collation name of the server and not of thedatabase. In order for it to successfully copy the Hebrew I need tochange the default collation name of the installation.Is "rebuild master" the way to do such a thing ? (this is a productionserver so we are wary of doing a "rebuild master")Has anyone else run into similar problems when transfering data betweenservers using OSQL ?ThanksDavid Greenberg

Empty String Equals To Blank: How To Change This Behaviour?

Feb 11, 2008

This seems to be a rather old problem (http://www.themssforum.com/SQLServer/Does-empty/) but I couldn't find an answer yet.

The problem is: I have two tables t1 and t2 where t1 is a staging area of t2.
t1: (id int not null, phone varchar(30))
t2: (id int not null, phone varchar(30))

Data in t1: (1, '') <- empty string
Data in t2: (1, ' ') <- a blank

Comparing t1.phone with t2.phone results in equality which in my opinion isn't correct.

The question ist: How can I change the behaviour of SQL-Server to result in inequality so that the change in my staging table is detected correctly?

Thanks in advance

Change Local Connection String On Remote Server

Jun 19, 2007

Hello,

I have searched every post and tried every connection string there but can't figure out how to connect to my database on my remote server. I am using Visual Developer 2005 Express Edition in C# and uploading it to a Windows server running asp.net 2.0. The domain has not resolved yet.

I am so new to this and have followed many tutorials step by step but none of them address this issue. They just show how to upload it to the server.

Do I need to use the SQL server provided by my host or can the database stay in the App_Data folder?

My local connection string works locally:

<add name="ConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|add_newSQL.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True"
providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

When I uploaded to my server I changed SQLEXPRESS to (local) as advised in the forum.

<add name="ConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=(local);AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|add_newSQL.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True"

providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

When I debug a page I get the <customErrors mode="Off"/>
error message even thought I have already set it in my remote web.config file which may be causing problems itself:

<configuration>

<appSettings/>

<connectionStrings>

<add name="ConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=(local);AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|add_newSQL.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True"

providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

</connectionStrings>

<system.web>

<customErrors mode="Off" />

<compilation debug="false" />

<authentication mode="Windows" />

</system.web>

</configuration>

Thanks for any help you can offer. I wish I could find someone to hire to do this part for me or teach me how over the phone. Any suggestions?

3-Tier Architecture - Need To Change Connection String For DAL/BLL Dynamically On Login

Oct 31, 2006

Hi Folks ...Question for everyone that I have not been able to figure out.  I have an application that is spread across tiers:SQL Connection defined in Web.Config file that connects to SQLServer database.DAL layer created references SQL Connection in Web.Config file - have noticed this copies the connection string information to the local properties for each TableAdapter that is defined in the DAL layer.BLL Layer that references Table Adapters declared in the DAL layer.When the web site is called, the link will provide an encoded id.Sample call to website: http://www.mysamplesite.com/default.aspx?company=AE2837FG28F7B327Based on the encoded id that is passed to the site, I need to switch the connection string to use different databases on the backend.Sample connection string: Data Source=localhost;Initial Catalog=dbSystem_LiveCorp1;User ID=client;Password=live2006 I would need to change Initial Catablog to the following:Data Source=localhost;Initial Catalog=dbSystem_LiveCorp196;User ID=client;Password=live2006How do I do this and have the connection string reflected in all of the Table Adapters that I have created in the DAL layer - currently 100+ Table Adapters have been defined.As we gain new clients, I need to be able to have each clients information located in a different database within SQL Server.  Mandated - I have no choice in this requirement.  Being as I don't want to have to recreate the DAL for several dozen clients and maintain that whenever I make a change to the DAL to then replicate across multiple copies.  There has to be a way to dynamically alter the SQLConnection and have it recognized across all DAL TableAdapters.I'm developing with MS-Visual Studio 2005 - VB. Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks ...David   Any day above ground is a good day ...
