View 1 RepliesNeed to confirm if we can add space(increase data file size) for the database which is configured for always on similar to that of mirroring or we need to follow any different procedure.
I have a requirement wherein the datafiles on both the primary and secondary replica got full, if i add space to the primary database will it automatically get added to the secondary replica or not?
In always on docs in msdn they mention only about backup of secondary.. explain the backup of primary or how logs are managed in primary database. My doubt is a normal database in full recovery mode the log file will grow if we didnt take proper log backup, how the same is managed in primary in Always On.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have a database in an AlwaysOn Availability Group that has gone into a state of Not Synchronizing / Suspect on the secondary.
The reason why this happened is because the secondary ran out of disk space so the log file wasn't able to be written to. The database was set to synchronous mode.
Is the only way to recover from this to do a re-initialization or is there another way to recover?
We are planning to upgrade our production servers from mirroring to alwayson. Our current mirror setup gives the advantage that it can failover a single database. To have a similar setup in alwayson we are probably going to create an availability group per database. Any other disadvantage in this except for the extra initial configuration work?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am not a DBA but have responsibility for a particular MSSQL 2008 R2 file server running a particular application.how to solve a database consistency check problem. The database fails dbcc checkdb with multiple 8903 errors. Unfortunately this was not discovered until well after any good backups were deleted. The good news is that the DB otherwise seems fine. We have experienced zero problems with the DB or the applications. Running the checkdb with the "repair_allow_data_loss" option does not fix the problem.
However, I would still like to fix the problem. Using a popular SQL recovery product I am able to recover the database. The original, vendor designed and supplied DB, has 2 file groups, and three files (MDF, NDF, LDF). The output of the recovery process produces 1 file group and 2 files (MDF and LDF). Vendor says they cannot support me since the recovered DB is 'non-standard' according to their design.
I am able to set up a new, blank version of the vendors database on another dev system with the proper file and filegroup structure. How can I get the data moved/copied from the recovered (MDF/LDF) database into the dev database (MDF, NDF, LDF). I've tried the import/export function but it fails (I can rerun and give details if necessary).
How to find when (date/time) a database was last removed from AlwaysOn Listener?
Is there any query (DMV) to find the details easily?
If there is a history kept somewhere of failover events of a database in an AO group? I have 2 replicas with automatic failover and I'm looking for a history of failovers.
View 0 Replies View RelatedSecondary replica database(setup in async mode) of AlwaysON went in "restricted mode" during weekly reindex operation.
So I have tried below steps
1) Executed following statement on the same secondary replica database where the issue exists
alter database <DBNAME> set multi_user with rollback immediate
but it failed with the error saying "The operation cannot be performed on database "dbname" because it is involved in a database mirroring session or an availability group. Some operations are not allowed on a database that is participating in a database mirroring session or in an availability group. ALTER DATABASE statement failed."
2) Primary database is multi_user but still tried following command on primary replia database(thinking it will replicate)
alter database <DBNAME> set multi_user
but no luck. The secondary alwaysON database shows (synchronizing) as the alwaysON is set in async mode but the command doesn't replicate across secondary
so we are left with the only option to re-setup alwaysON but I want to avoid it as database size is huge..
any other options or am I missing anything?

I did manual Failover and it worked. However all connection to all servers (primary and secondary and listener) was breaked. I expected my connection To The listener, be stable. But How can I test the Auto failover mechanism? I run this scenario :
1- I filled all free space from the primary server else a bit.
2- And run on it a Huge Update to fill remain free space.
3- MeanWhile I Run an insert command into listener IP. (in a while Loop)
I expected :

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe've just started using AlwaysOn High Availability and run into a wierd issue. I have 1 particular database that is not syncing data to the secondary replica. But when i look at all the dashboards, everything is green, they all say synchronised - but if I query the data they are not.
The database has additional sql transactional 1 way replication a different server which i was wondering if was causing any problems, but it's working ok.
I'm just wondering if there's any other more detailed logs i can check to see why the data is not flowing. The availability dashboard and it's event log all says ok.
I found it pretty interesting. I checked the size of a database, before implementing database compression across all the user tables in a database. And Post implementation of compression too I checked the size of the database.
I did not find any difference. But if I expand the table and check propetires->storage and I can see that PAGE compression is implemented across all the tables, but no compaction in the size of the db. It still remains the same.
I'm getting this error while trying to insert records into a SQL Server Compact Edition database. I have pasted my connection string that was used when creating the database as well as for accessing that same database from my Windows application.
Thanks for any help any of you can give!
Data Source=OnTheGo.sdf;Encrypt Database=True;Password=<password>;Max Database Size=4091
Hello,
I am developing a smart device application with Visual Studio .Net 2005 and SQL Server Compact Edition database. And also using merge replication to synchronize the data from the mobile device to the SQL Server.
My database size is around 350MB. So when I am trying to synchronize this is the error message that I get.
" The database file is larger than the configured maximum database size. The setting takes effect on the first concurrent database connection only.[Required Max Database size ( in MB; 0 if unknown)=129].
I tried changing the Max database size in the connection string and my connection string looks as follows and still did not have any luck.
connstr= "Data Source=Storage CardItems.sdf;Max Database Size=500;"
Any help regarding this would be appreciated.
Thank you

Ok i am very new to the word of mirroring in sql 2005, i am trying to get it to work, i have 3 servers
my witness server
mirror server and then of course the principal server, all are completely different servers.
I have a copy of the db on the princapal and the mirror server (excatly the same, snapshot)
right click on the princapal db and go to properties choose mirroring run through the' configure security' wiarzd
it resolves all my other DB server as it should. (using the same sql authentication also tried windows intergrated)
when i start the mirror i get unable to start
This database has not been configured for mirroring
what am i not doing???
how do i configure this damn thing?
thanks

Hi - please excuse my newness to this. I have a database with several tables and one of them is causing my application to lag really bad. I figure there is either not enough space or something is just wrong in general and i don't know what. Does SQL Server have a shortcut or easy way to test a table in the database?
Thanks =)
I set up a test database to try and understand table partitioning. Since deleting the partition schemas, functions and all relevant info on the database properties page, I am getting the following errors during the weekly database integrity check:
Msg 8914, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Incorrect PFS free space information for page (1:223) in object ID 60, index ID 1, partition ID 281474980642816, alloc unit ID 71776119065149440 (type LOB data). Expected value 0_PCT_FULL, actual value 100_PCT_FULL.
Can anyone suggest why this might be happening?
Thanks
How to find the pending transactions to be applied on secondary in Always On? Can i get those details from dashboard?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe are looking to setup an AlwaysOn A/G between two SQL instances across two SQL clusters - one cluster has two nodes the other has three nodes.
Is this possible using WSFC? Does the A/G wizard just handle this?
Good evening all,
I am new to Microsoft SQL and have been dumped right into the deep end with an anchor around my ankles.
The problem I am experiencing is about 6 months back a guy setup a Microsoft SQL server at my client. He then took his bags and left. Then a developer developed an application which uses a database on this sql server. Everything worked well for around 4 months.
Yesterday IBM Director notified me that I am running dangerously low on disk space on the server. By the time I came in to work this morning I had 12mb free disk space. The evil thing here is the transaction log for the downtime database. It has grown to over 60gb, all because the correct measures were not implemented to prevent this.
The problem that is occuring is no one can do anything on the database now due to the lack of free space. I have tried reading the sql books online but due to my lack of sql experience and knowledge I am stuck.
Can someone please help me? What I would like to do is pull my transaction log down to an acceptable size.
I was thinking of creating a new database and then importing all the data from the current database and then just deleting the current database however am slightly concerned that this may result in some data being lost.
Thanks in advance,
Richard
Hi experts,
i am asked to check data driven errors while importing data from an excel workbook to a sql server table.
what are the data driven errors expected and how to introduce that in this sql code.
SELECT a.* FROM OPENROWSET(BULK 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0',
'Excel8.0;Database = C:DataExTestVista_Logo_Product_List_20080204.xls',
'SELECT * FROM [RAW Data$]'
, FORMATFILE = 'D:format.fmt') as a
Thanks in advance.
I'm setting up my first pair of Sql 2012 servers using AlwaysOn. I set up backups to run on the primary and I understand that you can set up backups to run on both the primary and secondary servers but the secondary will fail. Is there a way I can stop the secondary server from sending out error messages about failed backups? Is it possible to script it so that the server looks at whether it's primary or secondary and turns on or off alerts based on that?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am trying to build the 2 node 2 clusters with the AlwaysOn.
Here isthe landscape.
2 nodes PROD failover cluster (running once instance)
2 nodes DR failover cluster (running 2 instances - DR and PRE-PROD)
Both clusters are in different geographies.
PRE-PROD can be editable. So out of scope of Always On.
One instance on PROD -> DR of the other box. [Want to achive thru AlwaysON]
Now my Question:
1) Do i need to have all the 4 nodes in same failover cluster group? If yes, then this would become MultiSubnet cluster Or Is there any way those 2 diffrerent failover clusters (one DR and one PROD) can be part of AlwaysOn.
2) Can i use the clustered disks as in the above landscape for always on?
We have 2 SQL 2012 servers. Our application has 2 databases. We are creating an AlwaysOn cluster. Is it good to create 2 AlwaysOn clusters to have 1 database primary on one of the servers and the other database primary on the other server?
I have been asked if it is possible to have one database running on one server and the other database on the other server. Is this possible without creating 2 separate AlwaysOn clusters?
While configuring SQL Server 2012 Cluster with Always on, why do we need two secondary replicas.
The attached link will describe the actual query. [URL] ....
I have an A & B node set up and running. I now want to add a C NODE.
The catch is the C NODE is in a SQL Cluster Environment.
I am guessing I add the Virtual Name of the C node to the current Always ON Cluster?
I tried adding it...the error message says" the Virtual Node is really the A node and to add the A NODE"?
What are differences between always on and SQL Server Clustering

I have written a utility that checks our stored procedures forpotentially incorrect code (eg = null as opposed to is null, unusedvariables/parameters etc). It also ensures that parameters/variablesetc match our naming conventions and data types/sizes are the sames asthe corresponding type in the database (if appropriate)Are there any other utilities that do this sort of thing?
