I am interested in creating a query that will test if a value is the same in a particular field.

For example, if the value is "0", or "000", or "000000" or "333", "444444", I would like to extract it. Otherwise omit the value.

Guys I want to get the date ranges instrument wise for which the instrument readings are constant.

For example for instrument 1 the readings are constant i.e 10 from 10/12/2008
till 12/12/2008 & then again it is constant from 14/12/2008 till 17/12/2008.
Same goes for instrument id 2.It is constant from 07/03/2008 till 20/03/2008.
I need to get the output like this.

StartDate EndDate Readings
10/12/2008 12/12/2008 10
14/12/2008 17/12/2008 10
17/03/2008 20/03/2008 8

Searching For Values Within A Database?

I've been given read access to a database and I also am looking at a GUI which draws data from the database. I am trying to map the results I see from the GUI to find the columns that the data is in... So.. big database, takes a long time to search the entire thing so I try to narrow it down by the following:

select * from information_schema.columns where table_schema = 'db19' and table_catalog = 'masterdb' and
table_name in(select table_name from information_schema.tables where table_type = 'base table' and table_catalog = 'masterdb' and table_schema = 'db19' and data_type in ('text' and 'varchar'))

This essentially gives me a list of tables and columns whos data type is either text or varchar. Once I have this list... I then run the following on each:

select top 1 [col_name] from [table_name] where [col_name] like ' (here is the value I want to search) '

So this runs through each table, looking to see if a value exists and if so, prints the result.

I am then left with a much much smaller list that I can manually look through and find the one I am looking to specifically find.

Is it possible to do this running only one query... where the output gives me all the columns in with a specific data type that contain a value I enter Anything else to make this more efficient

I am aware that there are data mining programs that could probably do this however I only have read access on the database which often causes a problem. The application I am using is "Aqua Data Studio" ....

I have a nested query that retrieves a min value. I would like to know how do i retrieve the corresponding time with that.

my data looks like this

My min value is 10.9 and i need the date 02/21/15

my nested query is as follows

( select min(cast(f.valuestr as float))
from bvfindings f
where f.ObjectName = 'Hematocrit'
and f.sessionid = s.sessionid
and f.ValueTime > s.open_time)

the above returns me the 10.9

i modified the query

select min(cast(f.valuestr as float)),
f.valuetime
from bvfindings f
where f.ObjectName = 'Hb'

but i get all values then.

Searching For Records With Null Values

I'm hoping someone can help me with my problem.
I'm reading in records from a 'flat file' and loading them into sql.
I have 5 values I'm loading in.  I first check my sql db, if all 5 values match a current record in sql, I don't want to load the record, because it's already there.  If it doesn't exist, I need to load it.
It works fine as long as none of my values are NULL.  But if I have a record with a field, say Gender, that is null, if its a new record it loads fine, setting gender to NULL in sql.  But then when I encounter another record, which is identical, I'm testing to see if it already exists by  doing a 'select where Gender = @Gender'   and it always returns that the record does not exist in the db - even though it exists (because its using the = instead of is null)! 
I need some mechanism where if the value is null it tests 'Gender is null'  but if there is a value, it tests gender=gender, [and I need this for all my parameters].  Or is there some other way to do this?

I need to generate query that will produce record set with start effective date and end date based on terminal and product. Table has over million records. I have a table with dates and values and other columns. In a proc i need to get the result as Month and the values for all the months whether or not the data exists for the month.

The Similar table would be-

I am trying to query the SharePoint database to get a list of how many times a table name is being used in our SSRS reports.Here is my current query:

where each month field has a 0 or 1, depending on if the person was enrolled that month.

I'm being asked to generate a table like this:

ID_________ Start_Date End_Date
0000030257 July 1, 2014 Nov 30, 2014

Is there some slam dunk way to do this without a bunch of If/Then statements?

The editor compressed all my space fields, so the column headers are off in some places.

I have a table that lists math Calculations with "User Friendly Names" that look like the following:

([Sales Units]*[AUR])
([Comp Sales Units]*[Comp AUR])

I need to replace all the "User Friendly Names" with "System Names" in the calculations, i.e., I need "Sales Units" to be replaced with "cSalesUnits", "AUR" replaced with "cAUR", "Comp Sales Units" with "cCompSalesUnits", and "Comp AUR" with "cCompAUR". (It isn't always as easy as removing spaces and added 'c' to the beginning of the string...)

The new formulas need to look like the following:

([cSalesUnits]*[cAUR])
([cCompSalesUnits]*[cCompAUR])

I have created a CTE of all the "Look-up" values, and have tried all kinds of joins, and other functions to achieve this, but so far nothing has quite worked.

How can I accomplish this?

Here is some SQL for set up. There are over 500 formulas that need updating with over 400 different "look up" possibilities, so hard coding something isn't really an option.

I need to list customers in a table that represents sales over the years.

I have tables:

Customers -> id | name |...
Orders -> id | idCustomer | date | ...
Products -> id | idOrder | unitprice | quantity | ...

I am using this SQL but it only gets one year:

SELECT customers.name , SUM(unitprice*qt) AS total
FROM Products
INNER JOIN Orders ON Orders.id = Products.idOrder
INNER JOIN Customers ON Customers.id = Orders.idCustomer
WHERE year(date)=2014
GROUP BY customers.name
ORDER BY 2 DESC

I need something like this:

customer | total sales 204 | total sales | 2015 | total sales (2014 + 2015)

Is it possible to retrieve these values in a single SQL query for multiple years and grand total?

I have a strange problem that I haven't dealt with before.

I need to execute a piece of code based on date ranges. If the date range is:

Scenario 1:between 02/28 (Feb 28) and 07/31 (July 31) do x
-----------------------------------------------------------
Scenario 2:between 08/01 (Aug 1) and 01/31 (Jan 31) do y

Can anyone help me with this code. I am having a SCD (Stupid Coder Day) and can't seem to do anything that is scalable - like accounting for leap years (Feb issue) and the fact that Scenario # 2 above is between 2 different calender years.

Hello Gang,

I have a strange problem that I haven't dealt with before.

I need to execute a piece of code based on date ranges. If the date range is:

Scenario 1:between 02/28 (Feb 28) and 07/31 (July 31) do x
-----------------------------------------------------------
Scenario 2:between 08/01 (Aug 1) and 01/31 (Jan 31) do y


I am trying to automate a report. The report is supposed to generate a result that will differ based on the date ranges going into the future. E.g.

[1]. If the run date of the report is between '2/1/20xx' and '7/31/20xx' display <ABC> or

[2]. If the run date of the report is between '8/1/20xx' and '1/31/20xx' display <PQR>

In example # 2. I am moving from one year to the next (July to Dec and the one extra month of Jan). So for example, if the guy runs the report between August of 2008 and January of 2009, display <PQR>.

How do I achieve both # 1 & 2 above in a code? Does this explain better.

How do you do a case sensitive searching without having the database case sensitive or is this even possible. There are times we want to perform case sensitive searching and case insensitive searching.

I found this article, but is that the suggested way. seems a bit bad, but if it is the way I am willing to use it.

eg: SELECT * FROM names WHERE lastName "begins with" M (or Mi, etc)

Right now if I use LIKE I get all names that contain "M".

Constant In SQL For DTS To Textfile

In an effort to automate a process, I am trying to populate a csv textfile with data from a SQL Server 2000 database that will be imported by a proprietary database; however, not all of the data required to go into the textfile is available in the source db. Fortunately, the data I'm needing has constant values for the fields that I want to populate, i.e Lab Name. Whereas, the Destination database will receive data from other labs but not via this source.
Is it possible to use a constant rather than a db field within the SQL query to populate one of the textfile fields. (I placed "LABNAME" in where I would like it to go) A portion of my present SQL statement is:
Select LEFT([SAMPNAME], 4) AS IUNUM, RIGHT(LEFT([SAMPNAME], 8), 3) AS SITENUM, convert(varchar,[SAMPDATE], 112) as SAMPDATE, [BDL] AS "SAMPNUM", [ANALYTE], (CASE [STARTDATE]-[SAMPDATE] WHEN 0 THEN '2' ELSE '1' END) AS METHOD, convert(varchar,[STARTDATE], 112) as STARTDATE, [FINAL], [BDL], "LABNAME", [NOTES1], [SAMPLER], [ORDNO], [UNITS]
From [CUSTOMER]
As you can see, I have already done a lot of formatting within the statement but would appreciate someone's SQL expertise to tell me if using a constant is possible or not.

Specifying Constant Value For Column In Bcp.

Hi,

I want to bcp data file generated by other system into a table maintened by our system. While generating the bcp data file they leave data value for id column empty (because they are not aware of the value in our system).

I want to specify a constant value for id column during bcp. Is there any way i can specify a constant value in bulk insert command? Can i specify it in format file?

Although i can read the bcp file and do transformation in front end (C#) it is time consuming. I can bcp data and then fire a update statement to update id column, this is also found to be time consuming task.

Any help would be appriciated.

How To Sort Numbers After Some Constant

I want to get output like this if i give the strings:
output:

25813/3
25813/115
25813/208

here "25813/" must be constant and remaining part must come in orderly way.
but in MS SQL the first inserted value is getting first i.e if we give value 25813/115 is getting first.
I will show in example:

create table number(num varchar(20))
insert into number values('25818/115')
insert into number values('25818/208')
insert into number values('25818/3')

The output coming is:
color
1 25818/115
2 25818/208
3 25818/3

BUT I REQUIRE THE OUTPUT AS:
color
1 25818/3
2 25818/115
3 25818/208

since 3 comes first than others.

If anyone knows please tell.

Constant In Autonumber ID Field

I know this may be in the wrong forum, but I have a question. I am working on a system for a video store. I have rentals and sales for videos. I have set the ID fields for rentals and sales to be autonumbers and increment by 1, but I would like to have an S in front of sales IDs and R in front of rental IDs at all times. It is kind of like a constant in all autonumber ID fields. I want the S and R to be in every ID field, but the number to change. Thanks.
