SQL 2012 :: Matching Column IDs Based On Field Contents

I have tables in my database, tblNames1, tblNames2, tblNames3, and a main addresses table (currently empty). Once I've imported the address data I need to match the addressIDs in the names tables to the Primary ID in the address table based on the values of a field CompanyName (which is common to all the tables) My issue is that I have a huge CSV file with the master address information but obviously SQL server needs to assign foreign keys so the names tables can linked to corresponding rows in address table. It's a a many to 1 relationship as their will be one address with multiple name entries. All the names are normalized so everything can be matched up...

I am doing some analysis on our customer base and their payment profiles. I have generated two profile strings, one for whether the balance of an account has gone up or down and one for the size of the balance in relation to the normal invoice amount for the customer. So (for example) the balance movement string will look like this:

I want to analyse these strings in two ways. The first is that I want to find customers with a similar pattern: in the example below the first and last patterns are the same, just one out of sync but should be considered the same

The second type of analysis is to find customers whose pattern has changed: in the examples above the patterns are repeated and therefore 'normal' in the records below the patterns have changed in that the first part does not match the second part.

good way to approach this without either a cursor or a hidden REBAR. The challenge as I see it is that I have to interrogate every string to find out if there is a repeating pattern and if so where it starts and how long it is (heuristic because some strings will start with a repeating pattern and then the pattern may change or deteriorate) and then compare the string for N groups of repeating characters to see if and when it changes and I can't think of an efficient method to do this in SQL because it is not a set based operation.

Hi All,I have come up against a wall which i cannot get over.I have an sql db where the date column is set as a varchar (i know, should have used datetime but this was done before my time and i've got to work with what is there). The majority of values are in the format dd/mm/yyyy. However, some values contain the word 'various'.I'm attempting to compare the date chosen on a c# .net page with the values in the db and also return all the 'various' values as well.I have accomplished casting the varchar to a datetime and then comparing to the selected date on the .net page. However, it errors when it comes across the 'various' entrant.Is there anyway to carry out a select statement comparing the start_date values in the db to the selected date on the .net page and also pull out all 'various' entrants at the same time without it erroring? i thought about replacing the 'various' to a date like '01/01/2010' so it doesn't stumble over the none recognised format, but am unsure of how to do it.This is how far i have got: casting the varchar column to datetime and comparing. I am trying to update records based on the results of a query with a subquery.
The result set being produced shows the record of an item number. This result produces the correct ItemNo which I need to update. The field I am looking to update is an integer named Block.
When I run the update statement all records are updated and not the result set when I run the query by itself.
Below you will find the code I am running:

Below is the code I am using in an attempt to update the block column but it updates all records and not the ones which I need to have the Blocked field set to 1.

Why is the update changing each record? How can I change the update to choose the correct records?

I would like to replace the value in the Select query of CO OWNER with a space ' ' or NULL if the ORDINAL value = 0.
The CO OWNER name is stored in the CARDNAME table, and the OWNER name is stored in the NAME table. I can not change the db structure.
JEAN is the ACCOUNT owner and BILL is CO OWNER of two cards.

I am wanting to creating a column based on a value in a flatfile, and insert that value into the destination table...
I have a flatfile and a oledb destination, I dropped a script component on the dataflow tab, and I am wanting to take an existing field and create a for lack of a better word, "CODE" field based on that value. How would I accomplish this?

When a record is inserted I like the duration column to be computed.This should happen only after the first record to the table has gotten inserted.You might say a trigger would be the best.. Ok then, show me the syntax.
Or I am thinking can we write a user defined function that will compute the value for the duration column.
--By default, I would like to update the duration column as follows:
--It should record the number of seconds between the last insertion ( You can get that time from the time_recorded column from the previous record and the current time can be obtained from the getdate() function )

We have a database and have 6-7 growing tables. All the tables have Primary and foreign key relation. I want to do partition based on the date column.
I need 3 partitions
First partition has to hold present data
second partition need to hold the previous year data (SAS storage)
Third partition need to hold all the old data and need to be in the archive database
I understand that first we need to disable the constraints (Indexes PK & FK)
Then create partition function and partition schema
Then Create the Constraints again

I have a set of data spread across a number of tables regarding stock market data. An example of this follows:
Market Capitalization...

Pretty simply, I need a way to retrieve the market capitalisation and share price data based on the event data. So for instance I say 'oh, there is an event on the 01/01/11 involving company A, the market capitalisation on this day was 100, then for the next event it was 4 for company B.
I can also transpose the data so that the company name is in the rows and the dates in the columns for the market cap and share price tables, but this leads to the issue that when I try and get the data, I don't know how to query the correct company for that date.
For instance:
SELECT Event.Date, Event.Company
FROM Event
how do I now say.....
SELECT MarketCapitalisation.Column
WHERE Column = Event.Company
AND MarketCapitalisation.Date = Event.Date.
I have played around with a few basic joins, but I am having issue with the principle of that second to last line of SQL (so only getting the correct column).
I still have a copy of the data in excel so can flip things around as needed, but that would only mean that I would have the issue of WHERE Column = Event.Date instead of Event.Company.

I have a table with about 2 million records.
One of the fields has data seperated by a comma. I need to be able to grap the data for each record and split those items into their own table in seperate rows. This is easy in Asp but the page will timeout before it can process all the records.
Any Ideas?

I happened to create a new field, lets say: sSubject with type: nvarchar(50), null.
then manually I go in and add this field with data and SAVE it.
For some reason, few days later the apps cannot work. And I went into DB and found out that the mentioned field contents has become "NULL". What is going there in DB?

I have 4 rows below in file tblTEST, and I want to be able to transfer the CODE from the MAIN location to the INT location (replacing all existing "A" codes), preceeded by an "I".

Two tables:
table #1 = timestamp, servername1(never changes), value(int)
Table #2 = timestamp, servername2(never changes), value(int)
What I need to do is merge the two tables into a single table based on the matching timestamp:
timestamp, servername1, servername2 as headers then values under
"1/1/1-1:10:1" , "10" , "10" - as an example
"1/1/1-1:20:1" , "20" , "21" - as an example
"1/1/1-1:30:1" , "1" , "5" - as an example
Powershell or MSSQL 2008 queries work.
I have a powershell script atm that can create the table and then throw it back into the database but its very slow because of the amount of records.
The table is for some performance stat collection app.
Table #1 records a timestamp, the servername (which is the same over and over in the table) and the value of the performance object.
Table #2 is the same collection but for a different server.
The layout in the database is terrible but this is what I get to work with.

The following works just fine. The table tmpMHPCLMDET does have a column ADMTDT ( varchar(8) ).
While I am adding the sequence of numbers I like it to be sorted based on ADMTDT column.
What that means is the row with the earliest ( smallest ) ADMTDT will get 1 and the next 2 and so on.

I am querying with a SELECT statement against an address table that has a post code column with corrupt data.
Sample record:- Northants NN4 0NB
Should be NN4 0NB
I have used the following on another column:-

I need to pull address info and need to match customername from a spreadsheet.
Due to bad design, in our database instead of having a 'status' for the customer,
they just added ' - ACCOUNT CANCELLED' to the customername

I have a patient record and emergency contact information. I need to find duplicate phone numbers in emergency contact table based on relationship type (RelationType0 between emergency contact and patient. For example, if patient was a child and has mother listed twice with same number, I need to filter these records. The case would be true if there was a father listed, in any cases there should be one father or one mother listed for patient regardless. The link between patient and emergency contact is person_gu. If two siblings linked to same person_gu, there should be still one emergency contact listed.
Below is the schema structure:
Person_Info: PersonID, Person Info contains everyone (patient, vistor, Emergecy contact) First and last names
Patient_Info: PatientID, table contains patient ID and other information
Patient_PersonRelation: Person_ID, patientID, RelationType
Address: Contains address of all person and patient (key PersonID)
Phone: Contains phone # of everyone (key is personID)
The goal to find matching phone for same person based on relationship type (If siblings, then only list one record for parent because the matching phones are not duplicates).

I have a MySql Database i need to extract data from based on matching info in a local SQL Server database,
I will ultimately need to cycle through 20 of these MySql databases , but the query below is taking 1 minute and 20 plus seconds...Just for one..

Hi,
I need to insert into a column (lets say column x) a date based on the date on another column (lets say column y).
What I need is:
Take the day and month from column x (all records are formated yyyy-mm-dd)
Place it in column y
The yyyy in column y should be - currenct year +1 and no the year in column x.
