SQL 2012 :: Microsoft Baseline Configuration Analyzer Error
Mar 13, 2014
I'm trying to run the SQL Server 2012 Best Practices Analyzer. After learning that I first had to install the Microsoft Baseline Configuration Analyzer, I did that.
When I tried to run the Microsoft Baseline Configuration Analyzer/Best Practices Analyzer remotely, though, I got an extremely verbose error message and want to confirm if I really need to do all of the steps involved on each target server that I want to analyze.
Here is what I tried after launching the Microsoft Baseline Configuration Analyzer application (I'm using 'MYSERV' as the target server name):
1. Clicked on "Connect to another computer"
2. Clicked "Another computer:" entered: MYSERV
3. Checked the "Connect as another user:" box
4. Clicked "Set User..." added by Windows credentials.
5. Checked the Use CredSSP box
6. Clicked OK.
After a second or two, the error below came back. Is that what I have to do on each remote computer to run the analyzers?
Microsoft Baseline Configuration Analyzer
Connecting to the remote server failed with the following error message : The WinRM client cannot process this request. CredSSP authentication is currently disabled in the client configuration. Change the client configuration and try the request again. CredSSP authentication must also be enabled in the server configuration. Also, Group Policy must be edited to allow credential delegation to the target computer. Use gpedit.msc and look at the following policy: Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Credentials Delegation -> Allow Delegating Fresh Credentials. Verify that it is enabled and configured with an SPN appropriate for the target computer. For example, for a target computer name "myserver.domain.com", the SPN can be one of the following; WSMAN/myserver.domain.com or WSMAN/*.domain.com For more information
Hello, I'm running sql2k sp3 on a win2k server. I run the baseline security Analyzer and get yellow (X's) for unchecked buffer in windows help facility, ms02-55.
Flaw in SMB signing could enable group policy to be mofdified, MS02-070
These warnings are telling me that my file versions are greater than expected. the file i have is version 5.2.3718.0 and the one it wants is 5.2.3669.0 and its the same for the other file as well. do i need to fix this?
I downloaded MBSA and ran it against my SQL 2005 Server. It tells me that I have a severe risk because
'The following databases have public access.Remove the public access if it is not required - tempdb , model , msdb , ReportServer , ReportServerTempDB'
I have checked these databases and each have the Guest User but it is disabled. If I check the database properties the public role has no permissions against the listed databases.
Is this a bug with MBSA? If not how do I remove Public Access?
Hi -I'm completely new to Microsoft Query Analyzer and I need to learn itfor work to do data mining as a Product Manager. Does anyone have anyrecommendations on how to learn this and where? Which books? Whatclasses? What links to online tutorials?thanks
We have SCCM 2012 primary site and Remote SQL 2012 server. Due to hardening and password reset we are facing reporting issue.
while we Open the SRS report in SQL server and try to edit the Report (Report Builder) we are getting following error due to which we are unable to configure Reporting Service point in the SCCM 2012 server. We created the New Reporting server database still we are getting the below error.
I am running dts in Sql Server 2005 management studio from Management, Legacy and data Transformation Services.
Once the dts has run, I get this error message "Error Source : Microsoft Data Transformation Services (DTS) Package Error Description : Error accessing Windows Event Log."
I have a 5G database with 1G log file running on SQL server6.5. I would like to establish a short list of performance Monitor objects (NT & SQL server) so that is adequate to capture application performance. I would like to get some advice: 1.What kind of objects should I monitor on my list? 2.How to automate the process (via a resource kit utility?) to save a new log file off daily and manage an archive process? 3.How to set alerts/notification (but no SQL mail is available now)?
Any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance.
We changed the IP addresses for several SQL Servers and we're a little confused by what we see in Configuration Manager. The TCP/IP properties "IP Addresses" tab still shows the old IP address, even after a restart. On "Protocol" tab, Listen All is set to "Yes".
We've found one source that says this setting causes the listening on an individual IP to be ignored.
Sarfaraz writes "I have captured SQL Profiler data. I was reviewing top running CPU intensive SQL statements. The Duration (in seconds) 1.39, 1.09, 0.16 and CPU (in seconds) 0.97, 0.95, 0.16 respectively for some SQL statements. How do I know what is the normal baseline for duration and CPU in order to determine the CPU intensive SQL statements.
Secondly same question for long running procedure duration 0.14, 0.11. What is the normal baseline here. Is this normal or too long.
I want to create a server performance baseline report for my database server. I know I can use System Mointor and SQL Profiler to monitor the server by reading the "SQL Server Books Online". However, there have too many counters, I don't know which counters should I use. If I choose to use the counter, I don't know what is the expect value for the counter.
For example, SQL Server: Buffer Manger Object has almost 22 counters. Which counters should I monitor? If I monitor AWE Lookup Maps/Sec, then what is the expect value for the good performance.
Anyone know a good refer or test book can help me to create a basline report
I am training to be a DBA in a company running about 30 machines with MS SQL Server (2000 and 2005). Last week I went to a class where the instructor recommended establishing a performance baseline using windows performance monitor. He also advised to run perfmon remotely so as to not effect the performance.
What I am wondering is since I have so many different machines to baseline, can I run perfmon on one box, using a seperate counter log for each server? I would like to get a nice week-long baseline for each machine, but I also don't want to get bad data by running too many logs at the same time.
My plan is to do a small set of counters for processor, memory, disk, and the SQL server instance(about 10 counters total).
If anyone has experience in this area, I would appreciate any advice that you might have.
I installed SQL Server 2012 on a windows server 2012 that had an existing 2008 R2 SQL installation.
After the install I can see only the 32 bit network configuration options in SQL Server Configuration Manager for both versions. Before the install they were available in the 2008 R2 version of the tool.
I have installed SQL Server 2012 on Node1 successfully and trying add node on Node2 and its failing with below message. I attached the screen shot.
Here we are not doing multi-subnet failover clustering. Why we are getting extra and asking for IP and what IP should we enter there?Add Node option should automatically detect the IP we configured on Node1.
[Error Message] To support SQL Server multi-subnet failover clustering, you must select at least one valid IP address for every subnet in the cluster.
[Details] Microsoft.SqlServer.Configuration.Cluster.ClusterIPAddressPublicValidationException: To support SQL Server multi-subnet failover clustering, you must select at least one valid IP address for every subnet in the cluster.
We are using Sql server 2012. One of our production database has hight no of vlfs. We are planning to shrink the logfile to reduce the no of VLFs but the database is configured for logshipping.
What is the effect of logshipping when you shrink the logfile?
I have done a fresh sql 2012 standalone installation but the instance services are not getting reflected in SQL server configuration manager
Although I can find the instance details in services.msc and also in n/w configuration of configuration manager but in the sql services tab of config manager , it is not showing .
The hide instance is unchecked when I check the protocol properties.
What is the best method of creating schema creation scripts that can bestored into a version control system. The process of using em togenerate a script is not an appealing option. I am still learning theMS Sql sys tables and have not found a useful list of all the codes &types to join the tables etc.mike--Posted via http://dbforums.com
HelloIs there a way to use Goto or something like it in QA? I have a script witha few GO statements, as I'm sure you know, declared variables, labels, andgoto's only have scope within each GO block. If i have an error in thesecond or third, of 5 GO blocks, I want to trap the error number and gotoonly ONE error handler label.Anyone know of a way?Thansk.Matthew WellsJoin Bytes!
I nabbed a couple from some recent installs I did, and, assuming I can get my SAN guy to always give drives the same letter assignment, it looks fairly useful.
There's still a bunch of additional stuff to do, like turn on instant file initialization, size/create additional tempdb files, and set up alerts and database mail, etc.
Can the configuration file be expanded to handle any of that? Do you use something else to template/automate your SQL installs? The more I do it, the less I want to keep doing it.
I've been installing SQL with a unattended install for awhile, and have the following settings in my install_configuration.ini file. I happened to come across a password with a quote in it today, what is the proper way to escape that quote? I've tried the standard backslash method, and found that to not work.
; SQL Server Agent Service Account AGTSVCACCOUNT="DomainUserName" AGTSVCPASSWORD="PasswordWith"AQuoteInIt" ; SQL Server Service Account SQLSVCACCOUNT="DomainUserName" SQLSVCPASSWORD="PasswordWith"AQuoteInIt" ; SSRS Service Account RSSVCACCOUNT="DomainUserName" RSSVCPASSWORD="PasswordWith"AQuoteInIt"
The cool thing is the install apparently tries a few time to authenticate before giving up, because it ends up locking out the account each time.
I've been put in a situation where I have a number of SQL DB's running on 2005/2008 which I have responsibility for. I've been given limited information so am looking at a starting point to determine where I go from here.
I have of course ensured there is a backup strategy in place to secure the data.
We are adding 4-5 indexes to one database and dropping 2 unused indexes. I don't have proper testing environment. How to monitor these indexes changes? Do we need to run any baseline but we don't get load all the time same load all the days
I have the TAMCreate.sql file which contains the script to create all tables in the Database TAMaintenance. Its created and used in the SqlServer 2000. But i have only SqlServer 7. From the script i copy and paste each table and created upto 7 tables without any problem, when i create the 8th table i get the following error the code for the table
CREATE TABLE AA_Branch_Master( Branch_Code varchar(15) CONSTRAINT PK_AA_Branch_Master1 PRIMARY KEY, Branch_Name varchar(50) NOT NULL, Branch_Opened datetime NOT NULL, Branch_Location varchar(50) NOT NULL, Branch_Province varchar(25) NOT NULL, Branch_Incharge varchar(50) NOT NULL, Branch_Remark varchar(150), Branch_Status BIT(1)) go
Error: Server: Msg 2716, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Column or parameter #8: Cannot specify a column width on data type bit.
In the same way i have get the error or another table, rest of the tables are created successfully.
the code for the table
CREATE TABLE AA_Supplier_Master( Supp_Code varchar(15) CONSTRAINT PK_AA_Supplier_Master1 PRIMARY KEY, Supp_Name varchar(100) NOT NULL, Supp_Address varchar(150) NOT NULL, Supp_Contact_Person varchar(50) NOT NULL, Supp_Paymode varchar(25) NOT NULL, Supp_Tel1 varchar(25), Supp_Tel2 varchar(25), Supp_Fax varchar(25), Supp_Postbox varchar(15), Supp_Postal_Code varchar(15), Supp_City varchar(50) NOT NULL, Supp_Country varchar(50) NOT NULL, Supp_Status BIT(1)) go
Error: Server: Msg 2716, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Column or parameter #13: Cannot specify a column width on data type bit.
We have several databases but one is behaving differently in SQL Query Analyzer. Please assume we have selected the correct db in the the pull-down and assume database name is DB1 and table name is Table1
SELECT * FROM db1.[table1] works fine.
SELECT * FROM [table1] returns "Invalid Object Name Error".
This problem causes some complex queries not to work so I'd like to know if this db has some special setting that requires explicit db name in each query.
We have also tried.. use [db1] SELECT * FROM [table1]
It still gives the same error. Any help would be appreciated. Thansk
On localhost this application works fine but when I put on remote server. I am getting following errors. For both localhost and server, I am using same remote sql 2000. I will appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Arif

We are just finishing our migration to SQL 2012. In our old environment, the instance which held our SharePoint databases also served other applications. We did not experience any performance related issues in the past due to this.
SharePoint basically requires MAXDOP to be 1, which is correct on the old server. Since this configuration may not be ideal for other applications that may be put within our environment, we our entertaining the idea of isolating SharePoint into its own instance, probably on the same box.
My manager wants me to come up with performance trace data to better prove that we need to go this route since we apparently have had issues in the past by blindly following Microsoft's best practices.
1.MAXDOP configuration - I understand this may be a 2 pronged approach that would require looking at various execution plans and CPU related counters in Perfmon. SharePoint likely requires a maxdop of 1 due to the nature of the application (lots of concurrent processes). What is the best way to show this need graphically?
2. Memory configuration for multiple instances - Does the Total Server Memory reveal all the memory that a given SQL instance is utilizing? Should I use this counter to identify appropriate min/max memory configurations for multiple instances on a single cluster?
The problem with the perfmon approach is that it's scope is limited to just the server. Since our SharePoint environment is currently being shared with other applications, I understand that I may have to utilize DMV statistics to narrow down my analysis.
I have installed SSRS 2012 Standard Edition in our DR site. We replicate over the reporting server databases over from our Production server via storage replication. It is on a different server than the reporting service. When I configure the SSRS in DR it is still seeing the SSRS from our Production server and tries to make it a scale out deployment which it is obviously not allowed to be because of the edition. Is there something in the database itself I need to change so it doesn't think the production server is still connecting?
