Help With Modifying A Data Source's Query At Runtime

Sep 13, 2007

Please help figure out what is wrong with my code. The script is supposed to load a package (from file). The loaded package already has everything set up to run a query against a local server and output the results to an Excel file. The reason for the outer script is because I need to change the query based on a global variable. When the query changes, though, I think the existing dataflow Path is no longer valid, so I should remove it and re-create another one with the new input mappings. Here is my code, which runs and throws an exception at the AcquireConnections call.

The error is

Error: 0x2 at Script Task: The script threw an exception: Exception from HRESULT: 0xC020801B

I pieced together this code from the examples in the online books, but I am not sure what to do.

Modifying Shared Data Source At Runtime

Mar 20, 2007

Hi all,
I have several reports using single shared datasource. I want to change at a runtime database that is used by that datasource. Can this be achieved? If not what are the other solutions €“ I guess that using not shared datasource for each report may be the solution (is it?) but it is not the best solution for me. My goal is to allow users to run the same set of reports, viewed in ReportViewer control, but using different databases (connection string dependant).

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

XML TASK XSL Variable: Exception 'Property New Source Has No Source Xml Text'

Dec 20, 2005

Hi,
I want to transform an xml flow to an html flow. For this, I create an XmlDataDocument, I add on it, all that I want, and I store it in a file (in a dataflow task).
After that, in an xml task, I set the input properties like that:
Operation type: xslt
SourceType: File connection
Source: ras.xml

All works fine. But now, I want to use a variable to store my xml data. So, instead of storing my data in ras.xml, I store it in a variable like that:

Dim v As Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Wrapper.IDTSVariables90
Me.VariableDispenser.LockOneForWrite("RAS", v)
v("RAS").Value = doc.OuterXml
v.Unlock()

and in the xml task, I set configuration like that:

Operation type: xslt
SourceType: Variable
Source: user::RAS

But when I execute, I got this following exception:

Error: 0xC002F304 at Format HTML Mail, XML Task: An error occurred with the following error message: "Root element is missing.".
Error: 0xC002928F at Format HTML Mail, XML Task: Property "New Source" has no source Xml text; Xml Text is either invalid, null or empty string.

Furthermore, when I want to debug it, in replacing the xml task, by a script task, I can see that in my RAS variable, I get the xml data which is well formed.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<root> €¦
</root>

(When I store it in a file, I can see it in IE)

Have you got an idea ?

SSIS FTP Task Variable Remote Path Invalid

Jun 17, 2006

I am working on the SSIS FTP Task that transfer file from one FTP server to local location, rename the file name, and finally transfer the renamed file to another FTP server. So I defined 2 FTP tasks.

For the FTP file receive operation, I need the remote path to be updated by a script and pass to the user define variable. So I set TRUE to IsRemotePathVariable. In the RemoteVariable, I set User::FTPSourcePath where the variable is set in the script with "/DMFTP/filename1.jpg"

For the FTP file send operation, I set TRUE to IsRemotePathVariable. In the RemoteVariable, I set User::FTPDestPath where the variable is set in the script with "/DestFTP/"

After all the setting, the FTP Task box show me the error as "Variable "FTPSourcePath" doesn't start with "/". Another FTP box show me "Variable "FTPDestPath" doesn't start with "/"

Can anyone help me on this problem?? Thanks.

SQL Server 2012 :: Nested FOR XML Path

I'm trying to reverse engineer an XML output based on a client's need of a very specific format. Besides the issue of getting the XML declaration written in and removing NULLs, I'm having an issue with a three times nested PATH query.

SQL 2012 :: Upgrade Advisor - The Network Path Was Not Found

Jul 2, 2013

We installed the SQL Server 2012 GUI tools, including "Upgrade Advisor," on a new virtual machine. We can connect to the old SQL Server 2008 R2 clustered databases just fine over port 1433 using SQL Server Management Studio 2012, but Upgrade Advisor is a mixed bag. Here are the steps we are taking:

- Click on "Start," "All Programs," "Microsoft SQL Server 2012," "SQL Server 2012 Upgrade Advisor"

- Fill in the server name with a valid SQL Server Network Name

- Select "SQL Server" as the only component to be analyzed

- Fill in the instance name with a valid named instance

- Use Windows Authentication (the default)

- The "SQL Server Parameters" window displays valid database names, meaning that we have a successful connection to the desired SQL Server instance at this point

- Leave all of the databased selected (the default)

- Click the "Run" button

- The "Upgrade Advisor Progress" window spins for a while and eventually generates the following error:

TITLE: mscorlib
------------------------------
The network path was not found.
------------------------------
BUTTONS:
OK
------------------------------

Why would Upgrade Advisor be able to display the database names after making a successful connection only to fail later saying that it cannot find the network path?

SQL 2012 :: Log Shipping - Secondary Database Path Showing Wrong Location?

Mar 17, 2014

I've configured log shipping to use for DR purposes. I'm concerned that the physical location of the secondary is mis-reported by SQL Server Management Studio.

Viewing the secondary location (with Studio DB_name Properties Files) shows the path of the primary DB (I expected it to show the path of the secondary).

This SQL command shows the correct/actual paths of both primary and secondary DB's when run on their host servers.

SELECT name, physical_name AS CurrentLocation, state_desc FROM sys.master_files

Is this just cosmetic?

Here is an Example of how the Studio shows the incorrect path for the secondary.

Example:

(Primary) servername=prodSrv, DBname=aquaDB, Actual_Path=G:aquaDB, SQL-studio-Properties-Path=G:AquaDB, sys.master_files Path=G:AquaDB,

Log shipped to

(Secondary / Read Only) servername=DRSrv, DBname=aquaDB, Actual Path=F:aquaDR, SQL-studio-Properties-Path=G:AquaDB(WRONG), sys.master_files Path=F:aquaDR

SQL 2012 :: SSRS Virtual Directory - HTTP GET Method Appending Default Path

Sep 27, 2015

There was a 2008 SSRS service running on server "abc".

I have a .Net UI that uses the wsdl at [URL] ....

They deployed SSRS 2012 service on a new server "xyz".

DNS points abc to xyz. Nslookup looks right shows both xyz and abc alias to the same IP.

when I try to go to [URL] .... it redirects to xyz as expected for the host name but the HTTP GET /ReportServer is appended with GET /Reports/ReportServer which doesn't exist and I get an 404 error.

I have no admin rights to see anything and I have no idea if it was an inplace upgrade or a new server. I assume it's new since the actual server name changed in nslookup. Why would it append the default virtual directory when it makes the hop to server "xyz"?

OLE DB Source, SQL Command From Variable

Apr 15, 2008

I read several posts on this topic and I would like to confirm my understanding.

This question has to do with parameterizing the select statement in the OLE DB Source editor. Initially, I thought I could use Data access mode: SQL command, and somehow use a user variable in there to build my Select statement.

But in researching further, it looks like I need to store the entire SQL command in a one long string variable (let's call it A), where A is built off of another variable that has my parameter. I then use A in Data access mode: SQL command from variable.

Am I correct? And is there not a way to accomplish the samething with only one variable that is your parameter value?

It seems a bit clumsy to store the entire SQL expression in a string variable.

SQL Command From Variable In OLE DB Source

Apr 10, 2008

Using Jamie's, John's and Rafae post i have got this far.
My scenario demands me to do an incremental load. So i have followed your article and have created a one variable 'vDate' (Dataflow Task, Datetime, 3/3/2008) and another variable SourceSQL (Dataflow Task, String). I have set this SourceSQL evaluation to True and have added this;
"select * from stagingperfdata where startdatetime = "+ (DT_WSTR,10) @[vDate].

I want to call this within a OLE DB source, so i select the data access method to SQL command from variable. My variable name is visible and i am able to select it and then save and debug. I also have a derived column transformation to increment the variable vDate by one day.
The flow is successful but there is no records written to the target.
I tried the same query (available in the variable's value column) in SSMS and it is retrieving 12 records.
I went back to the Ole Db source and wanted to preview the data, but i get "Query timeout expired (Microsoft SQL Native Client)" error.
Am i missing something fundamental?

SQL Server 2012 :: View To Concatenate File / Path Names Back To Root Directory?

Sep 25, 2014

We have a hierarchical table of some 2-3k of rows that grows slowly at only 3-5 rows a month, and is never likely to be above 5k, holding file/directory names with an IdParent int value pointing at that items immediate parent or NULL if root

Below is a sample:

Id Name IdParent
1 C: NULL
2 D: NULL
3 ProgramFiles 1
4 DataFiles 2
5 Excel.EXE 3
6 MyDataList.CSV 4

iterative code required to achieve the result I am looking for is best handled in the Application layer, but in this case the design brief is that we must get our results back as a View. Speed of execution and code clarity are secondary 'icing on the cake' issues.

I have tried recursive CTE's and XML FOR solutions but without success, and while I feel the latter is probably the best all rounder the searches I have made and the examples I have read do not seem to solve this particular issue.

Even to find the starting point of the search tree (i.e. the .EXE and the .CSV items) was difficult because the final slash is optional in some of the rows (.e. row 4)

The end result of my view on the above data should return:

Id FilePath
5 C:ProgramFilesExcel.EXE
6 D:DataFilesMyDataList.CSV (note the adding of the missing delimiter between DataFiles and MyDataList)
