SQL 2012 :: Named Pipes Error From PowerShell

Jun 15, 2015

1) I can connect to SQL Server 2012 named instance from SSMS.

I can launch Power shell in any of the supported data contexts, for example from the named instance.

However when I try to run a query in Power Shell, I get the named pipes error.

2)I can also provide a connection string and connect to the SQL Server Instance form Windows PowerShell after launching SQLPS, the same as in the above. I can open the connection and verify its state, but trying to run a query results in the same error.

I also see that named pipes is enabled in the SQL Server Configuration Manager.

Some of this is the result of some ambiguity in the Windows User Account in Windows 8 computer. Some of this is documented in more detail here: [URL] .....

This link is not directly related to the above problem, but arises out of the ambiguity in the Username retrieval: [URL] ....

Reporting Services :: Powershell Script To Configure SSRS 2012?

Jun 12, 2015

We have 15-20 report server environments including Dev/SIT/UAT/PROD/DR etc. so instead of configuring it on each servers, we would like a script to use with parameters.

After installing the SSRS 2012 package on each server with given instance and service account, I would like to configure the SSRS through script instead on running the Configuration manager RSConfigTool.exe manually.

we already have created the database beforehand using the scripts provided by WMI. do we need db_owner permission on msdb and master database to configure SSRS?

To Install SQL2005 SP2 Via Command Line.

Feb 13, 2008

Hi,

I have a problem about the SP2 installation with using command line in vbscript.

In the vbscript, I use the command line as follow.

'Command line parameters to install SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2

Set WSHShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
strAppsp2 = "c:sqlsetupSP2SQLServer2005SP2-x64.exe /Passive /quiet"
WSHShell.Exec(strAppsp2)

set shell = createobject("wscript.shell")
...

But it cannot install the SP2.

Then I tried to test the command line again at the command prompt

c:sqlsetupSP2SQLServer2005SP2-x64.exe /allinstances /passive

After that the SP2 installation box is shown but I need to install in unattend mode.

Would you please suggest me the command line to install the sp2 in unattend mode.

How Can I Install DTS Packages From The Command Line To MSSQL2005

Dec 12, 2007

Hi there

I've just finished writing a script to install our SSIS packages using dtUtil.exe

We also have a whole bunch of legacy dts packages that we maintain. At the moment we rely on these being manually installed - I'm looking to automate this effort (I'm holding back a rant about 6hr production deployments due to people not being able to follow simple instructions)

Didn't find too much out there on this.. unless I'm missing something obvious, it wouldn't be the first time.

Anyone else out there have a solution to this?

thanks

SSE: Command Line Install: MixMode Authentication

Apr 25, 2006

Greets everyone...

I am using the Command Line to install SQL Server Express (SSE) on client machine. Below is long Command Line we are using.

setup /qb ADDLOCAL=SQL_Engine,Connectivity SQLXML SECURITYMODE=SQL SAPWD=#SmartPlus01# INSTANCENAME=SPSERVER DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS=0

When I try to connect to SSE from a client's machine using the 'sa' account, I get a connection failure message. Interesting enough, when I fire up Management Studio, it shows (under the server properities) that the server is still using "Window Authentication". I want to force Mix-mode authentication. According to SQL-BOL I need the SECURITYMODE=SQL and the SAPWD =<StrongPassword> params to use MixMode. Am I missing something in the command line to use MixMode authentication?

Another pair of eyes looking at this would be great.

P.S. Although Windows Authentication is the prefered method, sometimes it just doesn't fit for everything we need to do.

Thanks in advance

SQL Server 2012 :: Get Results In A Specific Order?

I have a simple example of what I am trying to do. Here is some code to make a quick table to demonstrate:

create table #students

I want to select all the records, and them them be in alphabetical order first by lastname, then by firstname, then by address. HOWEVER, and this is the tricky part, I want to group names together that have the same address. So, in this example, I want the results to be in this order:

HallC6309 N Olive
HallP6309 N Olive <---- grouped with the C record because they have the same address
HallE5488 W Catalina <---- back to alphabetical by first name
HallJ7222 N Cocopas

SQL 2012 :: Using Resource Governor To Limit A Specific DB?

Jan 13, 2015

I was looking for a little insight on Resource Governor. I have a request from my manager to limit the resources a certain third party's DB can use on our system. We allow them to keep a DB on our SQL 2012 server so they can run query's to compare data to their server without linking the two machines.

I was looking into resource manager to perhaps accomplish this task but I'm not real familiar with it. If Resource governor can be used to only allow a DB named UserDB1 to use only 1GB or Memory at any one time?

Or perhaps there is another way aside from Resource governor?
