When I open a new query or a file that is not under source control, I get a tool bar like the first image below.
When I open a query from a TFS project (second image), the toolbar is not available, and I cannot find a way to turn it on.
How to control this feature?
I have a view saved on server - mhsvi-datawarehousedatawarehouse.This view, in it's TSQL connects to a databasethat is set up as a linked server. That server is mhsvi-sql2008ainstance1.When I try to add the view to Excel in order to automatically refresh for users as a report - I get the following error - (I get it as well)
The query did not run, or the database table could not be opened.Check the database server or contact your database administrator. Make sure the external database is available and hasn't been moved or reorganized, then try the operation again.I have access to the database where the view is saved and the database that the TSQL calls.

I have a group of parallel dataflow tasks that produce raw file outputs that I then want to merge together in a subsequent task. I use variable names for the raw file outputs because I want to the path to the files to be easy to configure for different deployment environments. Therefore, I've got a package scoped variable called pkgRawFileFolder and in each of my parallel tasks my raw file destination is derived from another variable scoped at the task level, called tskRawFileOutput which is evaluated as an expression equal to [User::pkgRawFileFolder]+"/RawFile_1" or similar (the name of the rawfile isn't important as long as each parallel task uses a different name).
In the container task that performs the merge, I want a Foreach loop that iterates [User::pkgRawFileFolder], finds each file and assigns it to another variable scoped to the merge task called tskRawFileInput. Inside the loop I want a dataflow task that uses the raw file defined by tskRawFileInput as input and just appends to another raw file or maybe a database table as output.
The problem I have is that designer wants the metadata for a raw file source before I can get much further. The usual trick, i.e. provide a "template" raw file, doesn't work here because my raw file source name has to come from a variable and I can't just plant a value in the variable to satisfy the designer because then I have to set the "Evaluate as Expression" property to false. As soon as I set it back to true again I get:
Raw File Source [1]: The file name is not properly specified. Supply the path and name to the raw file either directly in the FileName property or by specifying a variable in the FileNameVariable property.
Anyone else tried a similar thing or can suggest an alternative approach?

How is the Query Designer toolbar enabled?
Clicking Query, Dsign Query in Editor opens a Query designer in a model window that does not use the query tool bar. Oening a New Query pane does not enable it.
The nly way I have found to activate the query tool bar is to:
1. Right click a table then click open table.
2. Stop retreving data. (if it is a large table)
Now the Query Designer toolbar is enabled.
What is the correct way to enable the Query Designer toolbar?
I am trying to build a query which will be used in an automated report to calculate failure rates of systems based on cases opened through support. Here is where I am stuck. Some systems may have multiple cases opened within the same span of another cases however we would consider this one failure:

And that system should show me 2 failures. I was thinking of using a temp table but not sure if that is possible as I am stumped on how to compare the dates to be able to validate if they fall within the range of an older case and whether or not to include them into the new Temp Table.
I have the need to delete old backup files via TSQL job. Found this solution online:

It works remotely if I run it via command prompt. But when I add this to a TSQL job on my remote SQL instance, it runs without deleting anything. What I'm missing?

I liked the default appearance of SSMS in 2005 and 2008. 2012 is lousy by default.
My quesion is whether it can be made to approximate the way it behaved in 2008.
What I liked: Registered Servers and Object Explorer resided on nested vertical tabs on the left-hand side of the screen. Queries stacked up on the right-hand side of the screen.
I managed to get the Registered Servers and Object explorer to display with nested vertical tabs (tabs at the top, rather than the bottom - that's ok). But if there aren't any other vertical tabbed displays, then the tab on top fills the screen. There's no point to that. Both Registered Servers and Object explorer are narrow trees. The rest of the screen is white nothingness.
If a query is opened, it then fills the screen - empty. If I want that in a vertical tab I have to manually make it one (right click, choose New Vertical Tab Group).
s there a way to make the doggone thing behave?
The way I got the Registered Servers and Object explorer to behave this way was to right click on a tab and play with the vertical tabbing options.
When I run the following query from Query Analyzer in SQL Serer 2005, I get a message back that says.
Command(s) completed successfully.
What I really need it to do is to display the results of the query. Does anyone know how to do this?

I have a single column returned from a select statement. How can I have this returned as a vertical string? I looked into using PIVOT but my scenario seems too simple to use Pivot. I'm not requiring any aggregate functions or anything.
So, I want to turn this:

Please note that the list of rows is unknown. Could be 1. Could be 50.
There is a valuable script out there that will take the rows from a table and display INSERT STATEMENTS.
Good thing is this script converts the data to HEXADECIMAL ( or some other ) and we don't have to worry about dealing with apostrophies embedded in varchar fields.

(This is the start time of the test.) Now say the test ends at 2014-05-29 17:10:17.010. There are many rows recorded during that start and end time, for each row created a time stamp is created. I am trying to calculate the elapsed time and have it as a row in the results.

Issue #1 I have a report that takes 8 character parameter, A error message needs to popped out if user enters parameter less than 8 character.
Issue #2 I have a report with Tablix. A message needs to display if Tablix returns no Rows.
In the console, when right clicking on a table name...then selecting 'open table', the toolbar at the top of the page is not displaying. This is the graphical bar with the 'SQL' button that lets you filter the results.
How do I get the toolbar back, is it a setting?

When I am trying to view the report using 'URL Access', on one particular machine, all items in toolbar is shown on separate lines. It almost looks like the report viewing area and toolbar width is shrunk. I have same installation on 4 different servers but only one server is giving problem.
OS - XP

I have just installed my server with server2003 enterprise edition, everything is working fine. However, after I make it online for awhile, I found a weird thing on the tool bar just beside the clock. There are 2 hidden icons, when I move the pointer to these 2 icons, it shows the IP address of my server. Just wanna know if there is anything wrong with that.

I work with multiple servers and I have system administrator rights on all server. My question is, why on some server when I click on a database it shows the General, Table & Index, Space Allocated tool bar, than if I go to a different server, click a database it does not show? I would like to see this toolbar on all my servers when I click a database.

I created a simple report in SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services. Its about getting the sales from specific date and store. My parameters are date and storename, the report works fine as I view it in the reportserver. But, when we incorporate the report in a custom webpage using a reportviewer, the parameter toolbar occupies half the space, now that's my problem. Is there anyway I can create a custom Toolbar in Visual Studio so I can just set the parameter property to hidden so the default parameter toolbar wont show?

I see how I can turn the toolbar on and off with:

but this turns off the entire toolbar.
Is there a way to customize which options within the toolbar to keep and which ones to eliminate?

1. Whether I'm working on in Layout, Data or Preview (Reporting Services 2005) for any report
the toolbars I select disappear when I click on close. In Tools, Customize, I have check marks by: Formatting, Query designer, Layou,Build and Standard among a few others. I tried the reset button but no help as well.
What am I missing? Should they be visible and not grayed out?
2. Also, Is there an easy way to tell what verion/service pack level SQl server 2005 and of MSSRS 2005 I am running?

Looking at the documentation, it would suggest that as well as data files, when a backup file's created it will also be zeroed out unless the service a/c's been given Perform Volume Maintenance.
We take our backups to dedicated backup servers, meaning backup performance should improve significantly if instant file initialization's given to the Service account logins for the source boxes if I'm right.
I have installed VS community edition 2013 on a widows 7 PC. When I try to create a ssis package the ssis tool bar comes up empty.It just says "loading" on the panel .

All works perfectly until the users interact with the web page. i.e. expand/collapse or sort sections of the report. When the page is re-drawn the reportviewer toolbar (or parameter area if used) is hidden behind the webpage's titlebar.
Has anyone else had this problem ?
Is there a solution ?
