View 1 RepliesI have configured two node cluster environment on vmware with windows 2008 r2 os.I want to configure sql clustering over it.but prior to that I ran failover clustering manager on node V1 to create two node cluster(node v1,node v2 and third node as a domain controller with shared storage using iscsi target). After I successfully created cluster with name SqlClus1 I shut down all my vmware. Now when I start them all and see clustering status I get error RPC server not found and Cluster server can not be connected. On my cluster manager page I see cluster events marked as critical for both nodes.and cluster staus down.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to install sql 2012 in a non-cluster windows servers, then set up Always-on between these 2 servers. Every article mentions Windows Clustering, and we dont have clustering for now.
Can I set up Always On, in a NON_CLUSTER environment?
Also where I can find instructions step-by-step installations of SQL Server 2012 and most importantly ALWAYS-ON.
I have a windows 2012 cluster environment that consists of two SQL servers nodes with Quorum disk configured as witness.
Manual failover between nodes is working fine, however the sql instance virtual is not seeing the Quorum disk.
Moreover the Quorum disk has the same number as another cluster storage disk, is that considered a problem?
When I move the SQL instance from a node to anohter, should the Quorum Disk change ownership as well to that destination node ? if it is not changing ownership what would be the problem??
i have installed windows 2008 evaluation, during installation i was not asked for username and pssword but when i try and start up its asking for administrator password.
View 0 Replies View RelatedI am wondering what would be the best disk/RAID setup for a Windows server 2008 R2 OS and SQL Server 2012 database that has heavy read/write. I have the following disks I can use:
4x 15k 146GB
2x 10k 600GB
According to the server build requirements for the application, I need 100GB for the OS and 290GB for the drive containing the SQL mdf there are no stated requirements for the ldf, but would like to know if it should be allocated elsewhere?I should do RAID 10 for the 15k drives for SQL and RAID 1 for the OS on the 10k.
Does anyone have any information or know where I can get information about setting up SQL2000 and Windows2000 clustering? We want to set up 3 SQL 2000 servers on Windows2000 clustering. We cannot find any technical documentation about the 2 together. If you know of any books or sites please let me know.

is SQL Clustering possible with Windows 2003 Standard Edition? I have read, we need Enterprise Edition but it is too expensive. is there any alternate solution?
Appreciate your thoughts on this.

We are planning to setup SQL Express on a windows os clustered environment and trying to shoot for a active-passive configuration. We know that SQL server 2005 has this ability and will be leveraging that for mission critial production applications, however there are several other apps that we intend to use internally and would like to leverage windows clustering. Has anyone done this?
- Should we share the INSTALLSQLDATADIR? If yes, then how to specify the SQL Express installtion on cluster node#2 that, "hey..utilized this dir as the data dir".
- Or Should we not worry about it, and only the databases that we create for our apps be on the quorum/clustered resource drive?
Any pointers?
Hello!
Recently, I set up server with Windows Web Server 2008 RC1, SQL 2008 Express beta, .NET 3.5, IIS 7.
I'm running ASP.NET web application with SQL database. Everything works fine until the first application state on the server expires. After that, any postback that starts a new application state on the server and connects to the database, results in the following error:
Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed.
Is this a bug that will be fixed in release of Windows / SQL or am I doing something wrong?
Many thanks for help,
Jan

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have created a phone list and am using a union to be able to display letter category. However, what I would like to do is only show the letter category if their is an employee with the corresponding last name.
For example, if someone does not have a last name starting with "Z", then "Z" should not show up on my report.
SELECT LastName, FirstName, Dept, Phone
UNION ALL
SELECT v.letter,NULL,NULL,NULL,NULL

I have 2008 installed and have 'smoke tested' it (tried it on the several projects and don't appear to have any show stopper type issues). Anyways, I'd really like to remove VS 2005 if at all possible. My concern is what effect removing that is going to have one the following other installs:
SQL Server 2005 Express
SQL Management Studio (Enterprise NOT Express)
.NET Framework v2.0
If anyone can weight in on the effect uninstalling 2005 is going to have, or ways to 'safely' uninstall it without affecting any of the other installs, please let me know...
Thanks,

The output needs to be grouped by the t.c_items_total...I just need the avg per cover (person) / items_total.
When I save my output (from a query I ran) to a text file, there seems to be rows of spaces. Is there a way i can just kill off any spaces at the end of my query? Like rtrim or something?

I am new to SQL and I haven't written any scripts in the past. I thought I would give it a go. Basically, I am trying to write a script that will check if a database has more than one log files, free the VLFs that belong to the secondary log files and then remove them. I created a database named rDb as this link suggests and followed the steps.
[URL] ....
It works. However, I want to have to run just 1 script that will do the entire job. This is what I have gotten so far and it doesn't work:
create table #tempsysdatabase(
File_id int,
file_guid varchar(50),
type_desc varchar (20),
data_space_id int,
name nvarchar (50),
state int,

I have tried to set up the Management Data Warehouse on one of our production servers, but it is not working (not collecting any data) so I want to completely remove it and try the installation again. There does not seem to be any remove/uninstall option.
How to completely remove the Management Data Warehouse?

I have a dataset in my report that pulls 10 fields. One of the tablixes on report should display only 8 of the 10 fields and this is causing the duplicate records to show up on the tablix.I tried hide duplicates option for the entire details row and have set the scope to "Details". It did not work. I am getting the data from a stored procedure and cannot do much on that.

I created a mirrored DB, added a new datafile to the principal using a path the mirror can't access. As a result the mirroring session was suspended because the mirror stated: "CREATE FILE encountered operating system error 3(The system cannot find the path specified.) while attempting to open or create the physical file".
Fine, so I disabled mirroring on the principal (SET PARTNER OFF) which worked just fine, but the mirror stayed in a mirrored state, Object Explorer saying:"(Mirror, Disconnected / In Recovery). Sooo, I tried to disable db mirroring on the mirror using ALTER DATABASE db SET PARTNER OFF;, which completed successfully, but the DB STILL remained in a mirrored-configuration.
I tried ALTER DATABASE db SET PARTNER FORCE_SERVICE_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS which resulted in
"Msg 1404, Level 16, State 4, Line 1
The command failed because the database mirror is busy. Reissue the command later."
I tried taking the DB offline or restoring it from a backup, but all these operations resulted in "The operation cannot be performed on database "db" because it is involved in a database mirroring session or an availability group."
The only solution I can think of at the moment is shutting down the instance and deleting the data and log-files of the mirrored db, which would be just fine because this is just a test installation, but it would be not quite as easy in a productive environment.
Is there any other way to remove the mirrored state from a disconnected mirror or to simply get rid of the db entirely to perform a recovery?
As part of patching i need to remove the database from availability group and add the database after patching is done , how can i achieve this ?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm presented with a problem where I have a database table which must be migrated via a "custom tool", moving the data into a new table which has special character requirements that didn't exist in the source database. My data resides in an SQL Server 2008R2 instance.
I envision a one-time query which will loop through selected records and replace the offending characters with --, however I'm having trouble understanding how this works.
There are roughly 2500 records which meet the criteria of "contains bad characters", frequently containing multiple separate bad chars, and the table contains roughly 100000 rows.
Special Characters are defined as #%&*:<>?/{}|~ and ..
While the field is called "Filename" it isn't always so, it is a parent/child table where foldernames are also stored.
Example data:
Tablename = Items
ItemID Filename ListID
1 Badfile<2015>.docx 15
2 Goodfile.docx 15
3 MoreBad#.docx 15
4 Dog&Cat#17.pdf 15
5 John's "Special" Folder 16
The examples I'm finding are all oriented around SELECT statements, to change the output of what I see returned, however I'd rather just fix the entire column using an UPDATE. Initial testing using REPLACE fails because I don't always have a single character as the bad thing in a string.
In a better solution, I found an example using a User Defined Function to modify the output of a select, but I cannot use that UDF in an UPDATE.
My alternative is to learn enough C# to modify the "migration tool" to do this in-transit, but I know even less about C# than I do of SQL.
I gather I want to use @@ROWCOUNT to loop through the rows but I really can't put it all together in a cohesive way.
