SQL 2012 :: Replication Log Reader Not Running

Apr 30, 2015

In ReplMon, some Log Reader agent jobs display as "not running". Rigt-clicking on it the only option is to "Stop" the agent. Seems to me if it's NOT RUNNING you should be able to Start it but that option is disabled. Also, looking at the Agent Job Activity Monitor on the distribution server it says that the job is currently executing.

Running the Replication Agents Checkup job yields nothing and those jobs are still "not running". I can easily Stop/Start the Log Reader in ReplMon or insert a tracer token and then all looks fine. I'm just puzzled by the inconsistency and wondering how I can programmatically check and resolve it.

REPLICATION: Log Reader Problems

Mar 19, 2001

Log Reader:

The process could not execute 'sp_repldone/sp_replcounters' on 'prdSQL01'.

I have configured replication locally; from prdSQL01 to prdSQL01 in order to
troubleshoot this problem.

Is the problem is local to the box?????????

Do I need to re-install MSSQL SERVER? CORRUPT INSTALL????

HELP IS DESPERATELY NEEDED. APPRECIATE ALL SUGGESTIONS.

Question:
I am unclear what syntat to use to stop (suspend) the log reader agent.

Things I Understand:
I understand how to manually stop the reader agent using the enterprise manager.

I understand how to schedule the load reader frequency (properties of the agent)

My Intention:
to stop the log reader agent, execute another scheduled job, then restart the log reader

Any suggestions are appreciated: comment here or send to:fglomb@crtincbc.com

I have just started getting the following error from the queue reader but I can't see why.

The Queue Reader Agent has encountered the error ''Row handle is invalid.'' when connecting to ''Database'' on ''ServerName''. Ensure that the publication and subscription are defined properly and that both servers are running.

Does anybody know what it means / how I can fix the problem?

Publisher Is Empty Under Replication Monitor - Publisher.! But Replication Is Still Running Fine..

Nov 9, 2006

I have a wired situation..!I set up transactional replication on one of my development server (SQL2000 Dev Edition with sp4).It is running fine without any issues and all of a sudden, i noticed inmy repication monitor tab under Publisher where I usually see thepublication is empty now.I do see the snapshot agent, log reader and distribution agent under myagents inside the replication Monitor. But its usefull to see all 3agents in one window under publisher before. What happend? Is there anyway to get that inside that monitor? Has someone encountered thissitation before? Please advise....After that I tried to create a new set of replication on differentdatabase on the same server and i dont see those either underReplication Monitor - Publishers....All it says is (No Items)....I would appreciate any help to correct this issue... Running Out Of Disk Space With Replication

Jun 22, 2004

We've got an internal database that replicates with another database server for our website.

Not all tables are replicated, some use merge and the others are snapshot based and published regularly to the public website facing server.

However, there's a lot of data (well, large textual data) that's being transferred and it seems to be generating massive log files that continue to grow and grow.

I'm fairly new to adminning an SQL Server box, so was wondering if anyone can tell me what the best way to keep it under control is? I've heard its possible to truncate the logs, effectively deleting any data that has already been processed by subscribing servers etc.?

As I said, I'm very much new to this and would really appreciate some guidance, if only to the right part of the SQL Server Books Online :)

Thanks,
Paul

Problem On Running Replication On Pocket Pc

Mar 14, 2006

hi i tried to view a replication on a pocket pc app that i created. and i used the following code

private void Sync()
{
public string AppPath = System.IO.Path.GetDirectoryName(System.Reflection.Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().GetName().CodeBase);
SqlCeReplication repl = new SqlCeReplication();

repl.InternetUrl = @"http://naomi/sqlmobile/sqlcesa30.dll";
repl.Publisher = @"Naomi";
repl.PublisherDatabase = @"SQLMobile";
repl.PublisherSecurityMode = SecurityType.DBAuthentication;
repl.PublisherLogin = @"sa";
repl.PublisherPassword = @"<...>";
repl.Publication = @"SQLMobile";
repl.Subscriber = @"SQLMobile";
repl.SubscriberConnectionString = @"Data Source=""" + AppPath + @"SqlMobile.sdf"";Max Database Size=128;Default Lock Escalation =100;";
try
{
repl.AddSubscription(AddOption.ExistingDatabase);
repl.Synchronize();
}
catch (SqlCeException e)
{
MessageBox.Show(e.ToString());
}

when i run it i keep on getting the error:
The SQL Mobile Subscription already exists. Publisher, PublisherDatabase, and Publication for this subscription should be different from any existing subscription.

However, i can still view the contents of the datagrid that refers to the database subscription.

1. What should i do in order to stop getting the error above?
2. If i edit the contents of the datagrid in the pocket pc app how will i update the replication in the sql server? thanks

Running Create Replication Script

Feb 25, 2006

I am about to replace a SQL Server which is replicated to about 25 computers. The replacement PC (and SQL Server) will have the same name. I intend to generate a Create Replication Script before shutting down the old PC and to run it on the new one.

Should I also create and use a Remove Replication script and run it on the old PC before shutting it down? I am thinking that I might need to do this to remove Replication infromation from the subcribers before running the Create script.

In other words, is it OK (or not OK) to run the Create script with the subcribers already in existence? Is there possibly a way to run the Create script on the sever and skip updating of the subcribers?

Thanks,

Dick Campbell

Data Synchronization Accross Multiple Servers Running Replication

Apr 19, 2007

Hello,

We have an environment with 7 servers that are running replication with one another and I'm wondering if there are any tools or experiences that any of you might have that may assist in the auditing of these servers. The data should be in synch accross the boards for all tables, but sometimes problems can arise such as replication not being set up properly, stored procedure's being out of synch, or data gliches etc.

In dealing with these issues we have an in-house written program which analises each table on each server and takes a snapshot and does column by column compare. We also have another program that will synch the data up (basically a delete/insert statement on the publisher). This process can take up to 3 weeks for our quarterly update of every table. I'm wondering if anybody has used any tools such as in SSIS or a third party tool and has done or is doing something similar to what we are doing now. If so, are there any tips you wouldn't mind sharing on how our process might be sped up?

Thanks,

Phil

SQL 2012 :: Error When Running SSISDB Execution Report

Nov 15, 2013

Whenever you connect to a database server that is running SQL 2012 integration services, then you right click on SSISDB, choose "Reports, then Standard Reports, then Executions" there is a display of each execution and options to drill down.

There is a particular execution that when I click to see "All Messages" I get a blank screen in SSMS with the following error: "Error: and error occurred during local report processing. --> An error has occurred during report processing. --> Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown."

Before I go add more memory to this SQL box, I need to understand how an out of the box, canned SSRS report such as this, which is built into Integration Services could produce this issue?

SQL 2012 :: Restore Labelonly From Disk Running Nonstop

Jun 22, 2015

We're having some issues with where our backups write to, so I've been watching and monitoring the performance, when I noticed today that restore labelonly from disk has been running almost non stop for the past few hours.

The account running the query is the SQL Server's service account, and the program is "Microsoft SQL Server".

Every minute or so the SPID changes which made me think it was related to the transaction logs, the "restore labelonly" runs for as long as each database in the transaction log backup.

Example: Database A transaction log backup takes 1 minute and the SPID XX for restore labelonly runs 1 minute
Database B transaction log backup starts and there is a new SPID for restore labelonly.

I hope this makes sense because I normally don't see this restore labelonly running.

SQL 2012 :: Execute Process Task Error When Running Under Agent?

Jul 11, 2014

I have an execute process task in SSIS that executes a .Net program.When this is running as a Sql Server Agent job in Sql Server 2005, I have no issues. The operating system of the server is Windows Server 2003 R2.

Now I'm trying to get this working as a Sql Server Agent job in Sql Server 2012. The operating system of the server is Windows Server 2012 R2. And now I have issues.

If I run the SSIS package in Visual Studio debug mode, I have no issues! It's only when I try running the same package from a Sql Server Agent job that there are problems. The .Net program errors out with a System.TypeInitializationException.

I thought this might be an issue running the .Net program as 64 bit so I changed the agent setting to 32 bit. That didn't work. I thought it might be an issue with authorization (since I can run it in debug with me as the user). I put in a class in the program that changes the user through impersonation. That didn't work either.

Since I don't have a full-blown version of Visual Studio on the database server, I haven't been able to capture the error and debug the program to see where it is blowing up.

why something like this would work in Sql Server 2005/Windows 2003 but not in Sql Server 2012/Windows 2012 when run as an agent job? And on top of that, why would it work when I run it manually in debug mode but not when run as an agent job?

SQL Server 2012 :: Running Sum With Reset Option And BULK Update

Jul 22, 2015

I have come up with an issue where I want to update data in a table using bulk/SET update to get the result shown in below code with output in column titled "Arrear Amt".

Please use this test data.

CREATE TABLE ##vOD_Calc
(
Seq_No INT ,
Contract_id INT ,
Rental_id INT ,
Actual_OD INT ,
Logic_OD INT ,
Due_dte DATETIME ,

[Code] .....

Logic required is that once the sum of column [ArrearAmt] of current row and all previous rows becomes greater than $100 then column [ChArrrearAmt] should show that summed up value and in else case the column [ChArrrearAmt] should show the same value as that of column [ArrearAmt].

Once the column [ChArrrearAmt] reaches the threshold of $100 then the same cycle should start again i.e. in above example rental#1 had $37.17 < $100 then rental#1 + rental#2 is also < $100 and at rental#3 sum of rental#1, rental#2 and rental#3 becomes $111.51 which is greater than $100 so its updated in column [CHArrrearAmt]. The same cycle start overs from rental#4 onwards however the summation of [ArrearAmt] will now begin after rental#4 onwards and not from the starting.

Below is the loop based SQL script which handles the above situation, however in BULK its a total deterioration of performance if thousands of rows are to be processed i.e. with a contract having multiple rentals.

The case here is that I have to use the result of previously updated column value of [ChArrrearAmt] to take decision for the next row, however with BULK update since the row is not yet updated with latest amount therefore the decision on next row is also giving wrong result.

This is the code with which I have achieved to update the column 'chArrear Amount', however its a loop based solution and performance killer.

INSERT INTO ##vOD_Calc_loop
( Rows_count ,
contract_id
)
SELECT COUNT(*) ,
T.Contract_id
FROM ##vOD_Calc T
GROUP BY T.Contract_id

[Code] ....
