I need assigning a group of users read, write, update (not delete) permission on all user databases. is there any way to do so instead of creating role on each database separately.

View 4 Replies View RelatedOk I have a query "SELECT ColumnNames FROM tbl1" let's say the values returned are "age,sex,race".
Now I want to be able to create an "update" statement like "UPATE tbl2 SET Col2 = age + sex + race" dynamically and execute this UPDATE statement. So, if the next select statement returns "age, sex, race, gender" then the script should create "UPDATE tbl2 SET Col2 = age + sex + race + gender" and execute it.
Presently using CONVERT(VARCHAR(11), [ExpiryDate], 100) to get close to the correct format.Only stumbled across this by accident so am assuming there might be better hidden 'treasures' .Formatting dates seems to be my biggest time-consuming activity and I just don't seem to get better at it!

I develop ASP.NET applications and use MS SQL 2000 Enterprise.
Each customer has one database and one custom design application. And, there is a gateway and a central database to get data from all databases.
Supposed there are 10 DBs. I want the data in those 10 databases updating to the central database directly.
So, the gateway can gather all data of 10 DBs from a central DB.
Now, my question is how should I do it in MS SQL 2000? Can I do it with a stored procedure (SP)? If so, how does the SP like?
Or, SP can only perform on it's own DB, but not execute across DBs? If so, how can I do that?

Our sql server 2012 contains 10+ databases. I need to let a developer work only with one specific and tempdb databases, and nothing else. I don't want them to see any of the other databases. When they login, they should only see tempdb and their assigned database. If I were to login with sa, then all databases should be available.
I created a "Test" user the developer will use for their work. I tried several settings, but could not get the desires results. I was able to get the "Test" user to login and ALL databases were hidden, including the one that the user has perms to.
I am new to programming in SQL and in VB. I use VWD to create web applications with a Hosted SQL database, locally though the databases are created in SQLExpress through Visual Web Developer.
I have used the SQL Publishing Wizard to upload my local data to the web sql server. But, I'd like to have the same local database as is on the web, which is being updated by users, both data and user / membership data but am not sure how to create an easy, or even programmatical way to update both databases periodically.

I'm developing an app. using SQL Server 7 (as the back end) for a company supporting approx. 200 unrelated clients, all in different locations. There is no LAN or WAN connection between them, so we'd probably need to use TCP/IP. The problem is as follows: We have dynamic reports in our app. which are run based on data in two tables. Whenever we add a new report we'd like to send it to all of our clients i.e. update their tables to reflect the additional rows of new report info. How would this best be handled, by DTS or Replication or BCP? And how could it be done with either?

I have 50 MSDE SQL2k servers, each server has around 10 customer databases.
There are 5 stored procecures need to update to 50*10 = 500 databases.
These 5 stored procedures each has many 'Go' keywords and 4 of 5 with more than 8000 characters.
What might be the best way to loop execute them automatically, instead of
isql/w to each database connection to run the script?
I had bumpped by 'Go' keywords error and limitation of max varchar of 8000 error.

I have to DBs. One is the original and the other is for testing. They both have similar data structure. Wanted to know if there is a way to update tables contents in one db with data that is in the other one.

View 2 Replies View Relatedwe have a new requirement that calls for also (in addition to RS's automatic directory updates) updating an organizational application database with metatdata about instances of scheduled reports, or alternatively having our app query RS's metadata for such info.
So, let's say we have a report called Sales Detail, and it runs at 8am every day of the week for client A thru the scheduling mechanism that comes with RS. Each time it runs to completion, an entry would have to be made in our organizational database representing a new run (instance) of the report under the client for whom it was run, in this case A.
Forgetting for the moment potential issues with a reporting system interfering with the transactional, or vice versa, can datasets in RS also do updates?...or can the scheduling mechanism in RS be extended to also log info to other places?...or is the metadata kept by RS (about instances of reports) easy to get to and decipher, and possibly be extended to record for which client this particular instance was run?
I would like to write a query that will join two tables in separate databases (same server). Then update a field in one table using data and criteria from the other.
Its easy to do this in Microsoft Access by linking the tables using ODBC, but I found its not so simple to do directly in SQL Server

whenever we are moving system databases from one drive to another, do we need to move the path physically? or it automatically moves.I want to try the rebuild the sql server. So I want to corrupt the master database so, I deleted the master mdf file and restore it back but instead of database corruption it is giving the following error message. How can I corrupt the master database and can practice the rebuild the server.
And one more thing when I try to use the repair option I couldn't able to get all the things back to normal. The database engine service, replication is not working but SSAS, SSRS things are showing successfully repaired.

A customer has messed up while moving their databases. After working for a week they found that data is missing in the database.I have two backups, one from the old server and one from the new server today, they have been working in the new one for a week.
I need to compare these two databases and then update the new database with all data that is in the old one but not in the new database. Join the data in the two databases so to say. Both databases are from the same application so they use the same users, schema and so on.
I have database with a large table (30 Billion rows) because it is so big I separated the data in quarterly tables and created a partitioned view (with hints for the date column) about 1 billions a quarter. (all in separated filegroups). The tables themselfes are partitioned by date again, so you slice out one day
However the full-backup of grows and grows and the mainpart of it is "old" but needed data.
So I was thinking to put the older data in a separate database (with separated backup) and then point to the table in my view.
While this is technical possible (leaving out the WITH SCHEMABINDING) I wonder what negative consequences it will have.
I already had to lose "with schemabing".
I have to use separate partioning functions - for each database its own - (partition schemas where already separated due to separated filegroups)
What about query optimization, does the optimizer care that there are two databases?
Scenario: a stored procedure is executed in database ABC. The procedure includes a MERGE statement with objects in the ABC and DEF databases. A Windows login is executing the procedure. Contained users is not enabled anywhere on the instance. And the user is not orphaned in either database, i.e. the login is associated to the user correctly by-sid in each one.
Of course, the Windows login must be authenticated to access database ABC, and authorized to execute the procedure. That is happening. Most of the time, so is the MERGE statement. But every once in a while we're seeing an odd "Network error code 0x2746 occurred while establishing a connection" message. The procedure has a TRY/CATCH retry loop around the MERGE statement, so it enters that loop. Re-read: the procedure is still running, the network error wasn't about the client connection executing the procedure. So what was it about?
Does that MERGE statement, accessing database DEF, require SQL to authenticate the Windows login again, because it's a different database (even though it's on the same instance, and was already authenticated for ABC)? There shouldn't be any other network activity involved in that phase of the execution. Plus, when the process had been using a SQL Server-authenticated login, this never happened.
But before I go blaming our DCs or network... I need to know, are they in fact involved here, or not? I believe they are, but... never had to care enough before to really know. I'm trying to stave off the "let's switch it back to a SQL login" demand that's sure to come soon, if I can't find an appropriate resolution to this.
I have a SQL Server 2012 Enterprise Edition install that I am needing to do the following:
- Provide db_owner access to a single user. Have the db_owner privilege apply for the user in all Schemas of the database (this is a generic AD account that is being used for an application).
They are wanting me to do this because they do not want to get so granular as to tell me all of the objects that the user will need specific access to in any of the given Schemas of the database(s).I have 8 databases, and each one has additional Schemas. These are all contained in a Default instance.I am finding that without explicitly applying permissions to the various objects in the Schemas that are not the default Schema for this user, I am a bit stuck.Is there any way to have the db_owner permission apply to the single user for all the Schemas in a given database (without making them a Sysadmin)?
I have log shipping enabled on databases(primary and secondary) and works fine. I need to implement TDE on the database. I have experience on implementing TDE on databases which are not used for log-shipping.
What are the steps needed to setup TDE which are involved with log-shipping.
We are currently running sharepoint with SQL 2012 database. The consultant who configured Sharepoint for us is advising/insisting that we setup a daily maintenance job to shrink the data and log files. He is insisting that the lack of maintenance job to shrink the files daily is the reason we are running out of disk space.

THIS WORKS, BUT:
As you can see the database 3L_Daten.mdf is inserted with its full path, which is not feasible for deployment reasons.
My question: How can I address both databases purely by their database names ? Both have been created within VWD and lie under App_Data.
(I tried almost everything, I practiced with the SQL Server 2005 Management Studio Express Edition, I tried linked servers, all without success).

ie. in Oracle i would select owner from sys.all_tables where table_name='MYTABLE'
I know master.dbo.sysdatabases contains my owners, and in each database sysobjects would identify MYTABLE ..
sp_tables only lists those in the current database, but i want to list all databases that contain MYTABLE
a single select statement would be nice.

I'm quite new to MS SQL and am having a few problems I hope someone here can help me with.
I've created a small web application that enables users to backup and restore databases easily.
There is one table that holds information about the backups that have been taken and one table that holds details about each database (name, location etc)
What I want to do is have a web interface that allows a user to link a new database (one that is already attached to SQL but) to the system by inputting it into the database details table.
Ideally this will be a drop down menu that shows the databases attached to the server that arnt:
1. Already in the backup system table
2. Not the system databases.
This will allow the user to easily select the database and give it a title (usually different from the local name of the database) for identification.
The database local name, and title would then be input into the database details table.
I'm thinking that I need to use a SELECT statement, but I'm not quite sure how I can restrict the results to databases that arnt already attached or already in the system.
I hope that wasn't too muddled an explanation!

I have several databases on the same server that have the same table structures within them. Call them
Server.A
Server.B
Server.C
...etc.
I have designed a report that works in one database, say "A". I would like to add a parameter box to the report giving the user the ability to select which database to run the report in. I'm not sure if this is possible.
There may be more complex ways to handle this, say, with dynamic SQL or by building a large UNION of select statements across the various databases. But I figured I might ask for a simple solution first. :-)
Just wondering, in DTS, can I run a SELECT script that selects from 2 different databases (both on the same server)?
I can run this in Sql Query Analyzer, but in a DTS, it doesnt accept my database name prefixes:

I have one connection to DB_ONE... does this mean I cant access DB_TWO when using this connection? I want to try and avoid using a temporay table for storing DB_TWO's data in DB_ONE... Is this possible?

Within a database, the ATTID and Attcode link the attribute and attribute value tables and they link to the Customer table with CustID and Cust Code. One Customer may have multiple entries within the Attribute value table
The Customer tables in each database are linked by the DBID and DBCode values. The other ID's are not necessarily the same across databases.
The object is to compile a list of Customers where these attribute values vary between databases. There are approximately 56,000 Customers in the customer table and 710,000 entries in the attribute values table.
My attempts to do this have produced cross joins with millions of values returned
