SQL 2012 :: SSIS Automatic Pause And Manual Restart Options
Jun 25, 2014
As part of an ETL process which takes several days I need to build in an auto pause on processing with no set time for restarting it again. So we cannot use the script..WAITFOR DELAY '00:01:00'
Apparently the Loop is not an option as it uses too much CPU.We need to run a few manual checks and there is no way to determine the amount of time needed. After these check are done I need some way of resuming the package from where it stopped.
The obvious way probably is to build this into two separate packages but this would break the logical way our containers are being setup, in other words, it would make us break a container into two different parts in different packages.

I have got the error “a network related or instance specific error occurred sql server 2012 “.I have enabled tcp/ip, restarted the services. The sql server service is getting stopped even after the manual restart. I have checked in event viewer and I noticed a error. Here is the error...The log scan number (43:456:1) passed to log scan in database ‘model’ is not valid. This error may indicate data corruption or that the log file (.ldf) does not match the data file (.mdf). If this error occurred during replication, re-create the publication.

I never had to use DTS in MSSQL 2000 but I'm finding a need to use SSIS quite a bit in a new position. I know this is subjective, but I looking for suggestions for a reference book with good examples and tutorials.

I'm trying to figure out a way to automatically restart the SQL Agent service when an AG fails over to a secondary node. I've created a job on each AG node that runs every 15 seconds and detects when a fail over has happened. It then issues a SQL Agent stop command and then a SQL Agent start command. The problem is that once the stop command happens the start command never fires because the SQL Agent is now stopped.

I inherited a SQL 2012 Ent server sitting on a 2008R2 server using AlwaysOn High Availability, two nodes.
Available Mode: Synchronous commit
Failover Mode: Manual
Connection in Primary role: Allow all connections
Readable secondary: No
seesion timeout: 10
Somebody decided to give SQL server priority boost so I need to change this ASAP. So I plan on doing the following.
1. Manually fail over to the secondary, which does not have the priority boost set to true
2. change the setting
3. restart the service
4. Manually fail over
My question is with the service restart. How does SQL handle if the DB changes on the new primary while the secondary is having the service restarted. Where can I see if the DB are sync again or if not where are they in the sync process.

We have 3rd party app that dumps data into a repository Database for use in onward reporting purposes. When a user runs jobs in the app, the app creates new tables in the repository DB.The names of the new tables are created at runtime and unpredictable.
For reporting purposes, I then need to create more new tables/views that depend on these repository tables. As the table names will be unknown until they are created, I have created Stored Procedures to address. The Procedures look through information_schema, identify the tables created by the app, and then create new tables/views based on them. The stored procedures are called using a small tool made with MSAcess.
Problem is when it comes to our Integ & Production servers. My stored procedure will be doing a lot of create/alter/drop actions.Requesting ddladmin on production databases I know is going to set of a lot of alarms.
I need select users to use the MSAccess tool & trigger the Stored Procs that will execute DDL actions.

I am attempting to install SQL Server Express 2012. Th setup support rule to "restart computer" continues to fail.
I tried to locate and change PendingFileRenameOperations under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSession Manager.
I am not able to locate PendingFileRenameOperations both when following the registry path and even searching at the HKEY levels.

I installed SQL Server 2012 on a windows server 2012 that had an existing 2008 R2 SQL installation.
After the install I can see only the 32 bit network configuration options in SQL Server Configuration Manager for both versions. Before the install they were available in the 2008 R2 version of the tool.

In always on under availability group server name properties can see the option Readable Secondary. In that for secondary server the Readable Secondary Option is YES and for Primary it is Read-Intent. I believe Read-Intent allows only read only connections and YES allows all user connections.
What exactly it means for the primary and secondary?

I'm using SQL Server 2012 R2 and am working on configuring vendor access to a particular DB. I have a test db & (what will eventually be) the production DB. I've configured security for the test DB and want to back that up, then restore it (including all settings) to the prod one, renaming it to the prod DB name.

I'm looking for a solution to have cross data center automatic failover in the event of a data center loss for highly critical databases. I would like to have local HA and also automatic failover to the DR site. This does not seem possible with AlwaysOn.
Is my only option for automatic cross data center failover to build a node in one data center and a node in the other data center with a node/FS at a third data center in order to maintain quorum? I'd like to have local HA in the mix but that doesn't seem possible. What pattern for the highest data security and also availability?

We have SQL Server 2012 running on Windows 2008 Server. We need to copy five databases from our 'sandbox' to our test server and then to our production server. The database backup file sizes are 3 MB, 20 MB, 344 MB, 645 MB and 17 GB. We are planning on using the backup and restore method since we already have full backups and the scripts to recreate the logins/users/permissions. We believe this method provides more flexibility and control over the process. However, we have a few jobs, maintenance plans and ssis packages.
To get the jobs to the new server instance, the plan is to script out the jobs on the 'sandbox' and execute the scripts on the test server instance. Is this the best or only way to handle the jobs? How to get these maintenance plans to the new server instance? (There is no 'script out' maintenance plan option.) We may have to just recreate them on the new server instance. Is this the best or only way to handle the maintenance plans?
We have a few ssis packages. How to handle getting the ssis packages over to the new server instance (using the backup restore method)? These packages use the Project Deployment Model. Therefore, should we restore the SSISDB or open up the package file using VSS on the new server instance and change the connection information to point to the new server instance.
Just wondering if there is any reason or advantage to use the Detach and Attach method or Copy Database Wizard method? I have read where the Copy Database Wizard method handles the database's dependent objects like logins, jobs, maintenance plans, user-defined error messages and shared objects from the master database. Are there any other move/copy database methods to consider? Just trying to make sure we have thought out everything and are using the best method to copy our databases over to another server instance.

I used the syntax from a tutorial about bcp utility. I am trying to create a format file for flat file import and export.
My server instance is "stat-hpsqlexpress"
The database name is "STATRLO"
Owner is "dbo"
Table name is "PM-allactivity-emaillog_042315"
The bcp comand I am trying to run is:
bcp STATRLO.dbo.PM-allactivity-emaillog_042315 format nul -c -t, -f C:databaseActivity_c.fmt -S stat-hpsqlexpress - T

I am trying to import a flat file using the Wizard. That option does not show up. It shows up fine on my other machine. I installed 2005 Standard edition and they are still missing. I then uninstalled everything, rebooted and reinstalled Standard edition.
The flat file option is still missing. Any thoughts?

Hello,
My users often view some report for some minutes and after that want to return to parent report.
If they did it after small time (~less than minute), everything is OK. But if this pause is above 1 minute they receive "Runtime Error" message and can only to go to homepage.
I think that this is some session time or something like that.
Am I right? How can fix it?
Thank you

If we have a situation that the Mirror server is unavailable for a day....very unlikely, but it happens when servers are moved from one data center to another....Lets assume we are doing safety off (high performance mode)
Should we pause mirroring on the principal server?
When we pause, does the transaction log keeps growing ?
Can we backup the logs ?
If we don't pause mirroring
Does the transaction log keeps growing ?
Can we backup the logs ?
What we can expect we we bring online the mirror server next day! will there be any performanbce problems since mirroring will try to catch up....
Considering moving to mirroring from logshipping for our disaster recovery.
Thanks,

On Visual Studio 2013 with SSDT for SQL Server 2014
I noticed something very strange.
I am viewing the package configuration selected option for a package:
Now, i just click on the - sign and then on the plus sign on the "Properties" branch. And the option is cleared:
The ONLY way i found not to mess everything is just to have ALL the options FULL expanded and THEN to select what i want.

Disaster Recovery Options based on the following criteria.
--Currently running SQL 2012 standard edition
--We have 18000 databases (same schema across databases)- majority of databases are less than 2gb-- across 64 instances approximately
--Recovery needs to happen within 1 hour (Not sure that this is realistic
-- We are building a new data center and building dr from the ground up.
What I have looked into is:
1. Transactional Replication: Too Much Data Not viable
2. AlwaysOn Availability Groups (Need enterprise) Again too many databases and would have to upgrade all instances
3. Log Shipping is a viable option and the only one I can come up with that would work right now. Might be a management nightmare but with this many databases probably all options with be a nightmare.

I am currently in the process of migrating data from Sybase to Sql server and would like to know how to test the data migrated.
As of now, we took one table data from both source and destination and compared it in Excel to check if the data migrated looks good (note, we used SSIS to migrate data). However, I would like to check if there are any other best & easy ways to apprach data validation post migration.

We have the following scenario,
We have our Production server having database on which Few DTS packages execute every night. Most of them have Bulk Insert stored procedures running.
SO we have to set Recovery Model of the database to simple for that period of time, otherwise it will blow up our logs.
Is there any way we can set up log shipping between our production and standby server, but pause it for some time, set recovery model of primary db to simple, execute DTS Bulk Insert Jobs, Bring it Back to Full recovery Model AND finally bring back Log SHipping.
It it possible, if yes how can we achieve this.
If not what could be another DR solution in this scenario.
Thanks Much

We are using an MSDE database engine (1.0=sql7) as a report scheduler on a web server. I can access MSDE via SQL7 Enterprise Manager to connect and view MSDE, but cannot use the DTS and job scheduling as MSDE seems to lack needed components. Using Microsoft Knowledge Base article Q241397 as a guide, I was able to create a backup of the msdb database using stored procedures including sp_add_job, sp_add_jobserver,etc, that are already present in the msdb database.
My problem is that I need to create and schedule a job for another MSDE database called CE8. This database was created by the reporting app, and contains no stored procedures. It looks to me like only msdb has the needed job scheduling procs. Does this imply that I am supposed to schedule all jobs for all databases via msdb database, or will I need to copy all job scheduling stored procedures into the other CE8 database, then create a job? Hope this makes sense,
Randy
