I have an SSIS package that executes a stored procedure. In that stored procedure is a try/catch block. If the try isn't successful, it goes to the catch block which does a rollback. So when I execute the SSIS package, it tells me that the stored procedure was ran successfully because there essentianlly were no errors and everything ran fine, but in reality, everytime it goes into the catch block and does a rollback, I want the SSIS package to fail as well. How would I send back a failure to the SSIS package from the stored procedure?

Hi,
We are using SSIS to load some 100k records from flat file to Oracle Destination. We are using Oracle 10g client.
But during the execution after some 5hrs or 6hr with 900k records upload we are getting the message Package execution completed. In the Execution results there is no message related to success or failure and the tasks in the Data Flow where yellow in color. What might be the problem? Any information regarding this case will be helpful for us.
Regards,
Roopa.

I have a Dataflow task with oledb source that is using SqlCommand to retrieve data and oledb destination to write the source output to a table. I have access to both the source and destination databases.
The problem is the destination component is not writing any rows to the destination table eventhough the Source component is returning rows (I can see them in the Preview and the source database table as well).
I'm using "Table/View Name from Variable" for destination.
The Package executes without any errors but there is no output.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Hi
I have a made a simple mapping connecting source and destination on SQL server on local box. I am getting ~36K rows/min as the thru put. I only want to use ole db destination data access mode as SQL query (dnt want to use fast load).
I am doing this test in order to set a bench mark for a custom component which i have developed. With this result i can figure out how much time my custom component is taking.
Experts, please let me know your views on the thru put which i am getting is it good bad or ok with the scenario i am testing and also if there are some ways to improve it.
Thanks,
Vipul

I have requirement to update/insert the DPID based on the address which are passed as an input values. There are more than one address at the same time and I configured to get the address from the query which are correct and output of the address values will be stored as system object variable.I am then passing the system object variable to for each loop container and I have configured the collection and variable mappings as a variable for each input value.
when I pass the value manually to the web service task it works correctly. When I pass it as a variable to web service task it doesn't return any value.I have a data flow task which converts the ouput from web service task using the xml source converts it to oledb destination.I don't see any rows being written to the target table.

I have a SSIS job, one of the last steps it performs is to execute a SQL 2000 DTS package. This has to be done as a SQL 2000 DTS package as it is performing rebuilds of SQL 2000 Analysis Services dimensions and cubes. We've found that when the DTS fails the SSIS job is happily completing showing as a success, we would prefer to know it went wrong.
As far as I'm aware SSIS merely starts the DTS off and doesn't care about it's result. I've taken a look in to turning on the logging for the execute DTS package and thought that the ExecuteDTS80PackageTaskTaskResult would give me the answer I need...but is merely written to the log not available as an event-handler. It also looks like it is not safe to put a SQL task in as the next item to go look at the SQL 2000 system tables to look at the log for the DTS package as the SSIS documentation warns that the DTS package can continue to run after the execute DTS package task has ended.
Ideally I want any error raised within the DTS package to cascade up to be an error in the SSIS job, I can then handle it appropriately. I cannot find a way to do this. Is there a way?
If not, can anyone suggest how in the remainder of the SSIS tasks I can be sure that the DTS has completed before I start any other tasks that will check for the SQL 2000 log of its execution?

Hi all,
I got an error when i do an OLE db Source pointing to an sql 2000 database and executing a sql query inside the OLE Source. The ole source will point to an OLE DB destination which is an sql 2005 database.
But i got the below error:

I have a SSIS package that reads data from a dump table, runs a custom script that takes date data and converts it to the correct format or nulls and formats amt fields to currency, then inserts it to a new table. The new table redirects insert errors. This process worked fine until about 3 weeks ago. I am processing just under 6 million rows, with 460,000 or so insert errors that did give error column and code.
Now, I am getting 1.5 million errors. and nothing has changed, to my knowledge. I receive the following information.
Error Code -1071607685 Error Column 0 Error Desc No status is available.
The only thing I can find for the above error code is
DTS_E_OLEDBDESTINATIONADAPTERSTATIC_UNAVAILABLE
To add to the confusion, I can not see any errors in the data written to the error table. It appears that after a certain point is reached in the processing, everything, or most records, error out.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Hi all,
I have a stored proc that uses xp_cmdshell to boot off a batch file on the NT side of the box (box OS is Windows 2000 Advanced Server).
Here is the pertinent code:/*----- Kick off the NT bat job to suck over the data through the web service pipe*/
SELECT @NTCommand = 'D:TradeAnalysisWondaDataStoreJobsPullFromWONDA _InstitutionalRankings.bat ' + CONVERT(varchar(10), @ReqDate, 101)
EXECUTE @e_error = master.dbo.xp_cmdshell @NTCommand
SELECT @m_error = CASE WHEN ISNULL(@e_error, 0) <> 0 THEN (@e_error + 50000) ELSE @@Error END
IF @m_error <> 0 GOTO ErrorHandlerThe trouble is that the batch file is failing (soft error, caught internally to the batch file, which then kills itself, screaming loudly all the way).
The batch file is using the following "voice" in which to scream in pain as it dies (a.k.a., using this code to terminate itself, which kills the cmd shell and returns 13 as an error code)REM WonDBService.exe says we failed
Date /T
Time /T
EXIT /B 13
Meanwhile, back at the ranch (errr...back in stored procedure), what is being returned is a ZERO (in the first code block, @e_error is being set to ZERO when the xp_cmdshell returns from the bat file.
So, now that I have ruled out the obvious *LOL* how can I get my xp_cmdshell to realize it has failed miserably at the one, tiny, simple, not-too-much-to-ask, job that it is designed to do?

I have a number of stored procedures that run one after the other. How do you code to get the success or failure so that some logic can be applied accordingly? I've heard of the TRY CATCH structure, but I new and have yet to use it. How many different ways can success or failure be handled in code?

Please excuse my ignorance as I'm a complete noob when it comes to vb.net.
I have 2 script tasks, each connected to an upstream task via Success and Failure constraints. Each script assigns a value to a variable, depending on whether the task succeeds or fails.
My code thus far is:
Code Snippet
Public Sub Main()
Dts.Variables("strEmailBody").Value = _
"Business Model Reporintg Control Complete - Status = Success"
Dts.TaskResult = Dts.Results.Success
End Sub
What i want to do is use a single script task depending on the success or failure of the package, setting the variable value accordingly.
If there are no errors Then
"Success"
Else
"Failure"
I've tried
Code SnippetIF CBool(Dts.Results.Success) Then...
But whislt it compiled, didn't evaluate correctly during runtime.
Can anyone suggest where I'm going wrong? Again I'm totally new to .net and I'm surprised I've gotten this far!
Thanks in advance.

ummm. sorry, I've read and seen the tutorials but somehow and missing this.
I have a foreach container. Inside a dataflow task, with an XML source, a data conversion (cause of urrr UNICODE) and and an ole DB data source.
By design (and for this simple example), I get a volation if I attempt to load loads with out deleting entries from my table. No biggie, I would just like this simple package to rename my file to extension .good or .bad depending on success of each loop.
Where and what do I need for this?
Thank you for any help or information!

More of a general SOAP service call question.
Does anybody have any experience/advice on how to ensure that SOAP service call success/failures are returned to the calling app?
Consider a client that calls a SOAP service during which the client goes down and is unable to receive the SOAP response, the work having been done by the service. Similarly, the SOAP service may perform the task but a failure in the return makes the client think the process failed.
What would be the best way to ensure that the client is notified to avoid the call having to be made again?
Are there middleware tools that can be used to provide a form of message queuing for SOAP service calls?
Thanks

Passing a date parameter in a stored procedure through OLEDB Source (Data flow task). We have a multipurpose stored proc in which one of the many expected parameter is a date. It keeps giving me the following error:Description: "Operand type clash: int is incompatible with date"- although there is no integer.
One way to fix it would be change the data type from date to datetime in proc but I can't do that since it is multi-purpose proc. I didn't find anything good on the net.

I am a complete newbie to SSIS. I can create a simple package to transfer data between SQL instances and thats about it.
I have tableA (source data) and tableB (Destination data). TableA has 4 column and tableB has 5. I want to transfer all of the columns from tableA into TableB, but the 5th column in tableB needs to be populated with the ServerInstance name of the server TableA sits on. Do I need to have multiple data sources to achieve this? I have tried but no matter how I set it up, the Column in the destination is set to ignore.

A project I'm working on consists of a Main stored procedure which then runs about 30 nested procedures. The client wants to know when a certain nested SP fails, but wihtout rollbacks, as they may want to fix a data item manually (such as a missing Patient ID, that they have to call someone about). At this point, we don't want to roll back anything but halt the rest of the nested SP's and send out an email to someone that they have to check out a missing PatientID.
I'm wondering if an SSIS package would handle this better than just using a Stored Procedure. When that SP runs, it will also update a "Process tracking" table in the backend, that would update [Lastprocessran] with a number. I'm thinking that if they run the main SP again, after making a manual correction, that they could re-run the main SP, and it would bypass any step that already ran successfully based upon the [Lastprocessrun] number.

in a my SSIS 2012 pkg I'm using a Foreach ADO Enumerator container that reads an object variable in order to get an id value. This identifier is passed as an input parameter to an Execute SQL task to update an Oracle table: if this task fails the id is written on a SQL Server table. After the Execute SQL task execution, with success or failure, the flow go to another task in the container.
When an error occurs for the update on Oracle table, each tasks inside the container are executed but the container fails and the loop ends.I'd like to complete the entire loop respect to the identifiers present in the object variable also if the update operation on Oracle table goes in error.

Hi All,
We want to take advantage of the performance benefit provided by SQL server destination in our packages. We are using a configuration variable to specify whether the SQL Server is remote or local to the packages. We are using a conditional split to redirect the process to either SQL Server destination or OLEDB destination based on the value of the variable. Is there any performance benefit in doing such a thing as it seems that the connection is made in both the paths during the runtime instead of in one particular path alone.
Thanks in advance

Good day,
I'm working with SSIS on SQL Server 2005 and trying to update a table with a OLEDB Destination.
The table I'm updating does not accept Null values. I've tried to update the table in several ways.
Using a "Table or view - Fast Load " Data Access Mode. I get the can't load data due to "Null values are not accepted in field xyz"
Using SQL Command text. Used the isnull function on all null fields and the "Failure inserting into the Read Only Column xyz"
I've check the properties of the table I'm writing to. I've check my user credentials.
Can any of you shed some light on what I'm missing.
thanks

Hello,
I am a beginner for the SSIS and would like to know how to modify the OLDEB Destination connectionString property at run time like using "for each loop container".
My requirement is that I have a single source which would be Sql Server 2005 and my destination is in MS-Access database residing in 100 places. I do not want to manually design in the data flow to these 100 destinations.
I have all the destinations stored in a table and would like to pick these destinations from the table and loop through the same at run time by modifying destination connection string.
I have planned using dts but the for each loop container does not work through as it works with flat file connection manager , but does not go well with OLDEB connection.
Highly appreciate any help in this regard.

Sameer

Situation
I have a package with an execute SQL task that truncates the destination table as the first step in the control flow and a data flow task that reads data from a flat file and loads a sql server table.
Once in a while the package bombs because it cannot get access to the flat file. The end result is that the table is empty because the truncate runs first. Obviously, I need to address the file contention, but I was wondering how to address this issue in general since anything that causes the data flow to blow up would leave the table empty.
I would rather have the table with day old data than empty, since it is not mission critical and the users can at least look at yesterday's data as opposed to nothing.
Question
Is there a way to specify a "load replace" on the OLEDB destination? I haven't seen one and I guess it makes sense because the data flow task transformations run row by row.
The only solution that I have come up with is to have the following on the control flow:
1) data flow task which reads flat file and loads a temp table
2) execute sql task to truncate the "real" destination
3) data flow task to move data from temp table to real table.
Anyone else come up with a better way to handle this?
Thanks!!

Hi
How can commit interval for OLE DB destination be set when the data access mode is not "fast load".
What happens in oledb destination in case of a failure in package? How does the roll back happens. I mean how is the commit point set in oledb destination? I know about the transaction options which are at the package level.
Thanks,

Hi,
I have a strange problem, which I never encountered earlier, I have a data flow which has one source and multiple destinations, I am also using multicast and derived column transformations too, however when I run the package (either from cmd line or designer) the data flow task hangs when it comes to inserting data into the target tables. and it keeps waiting forever. Initialy I thought it was my data set , however if with very few records the problem persists. I have also tried removing the table lock from the destination , increasing the rows per batch to 10000 and commit size to 10000 but to no change. I am using the fast load option within my destination. When I run sp_who2 on my Management Studio I see that the status of all the processes is sleeping and the command is "awaiting command" , any help appreciated.
Thanks
