Use Cubes From Analysis Services 2005 To Analysis Services 2000

I have some questions about SQL Servers 2000 and 2005 compatibility.
In my configuration I have to use both servers.
The cubes are stocked in 2005 server.
May I transfer from 2005 to 2000 Analysis Services the cubes?
If yes, what is the procedure? The result of migration is the same in the two different versions?
If not, how can I solve this problem?

Analysis :: Power BI Analysis Services Connector - Remote Server Returned Error
Mar 5, 2015I have, a SSAS 2012 tabular instance with SP2, there is a database on the instance with a read role with everyone assigned permissions. When configuring the Power BI analysis services connector, at the point where you enter Friendly Name, Description and Friendly error message, when you click next I receive the error "The remote server returned an error (403)." I've tested connecting to the database from Excel on a desktop and connect fine.I don't use a "onmicrosoft" account so don't have that problem to deal with.
We use Power BI Pro with our Office 365. As far as I can tell that part is working ok as I pass that stage of the configuration with a message saying connected to Power BI.The connector is installed on the same server as tabular services, its a Win2012 Standard server. The tabular instance is running a domain account that is the admin account for the instance (this is a dev environment) that account is what I've used in the connector configuration. It's also a local admin account. There is no gateway installed on the server.
Analysis :: Cube Needs To Be Deployed From VS After SSIS Analysis Services Processing Task Completes?
May 13, 2014I have a cube that we are processing nightly via an Analysis Service Processing Task in SSIS. In order to increase the performance of the processing time, we elected to use a lot of rigid dimension attributes, and do a full process of everything in the SSIS task. The issue that I am having is that after that task completes, I need to go into Visual Studio to deploy the cube becuase we are unable to browse or use the cube. This issue seemed to start once we changed the SSIS Analysis Service Processing Task to do a full process on the dimensions, rather than an incremental.
I would expect that once development is done, and it is processed and deployed, that is it. My thinking is that the SSIS task should just update the already deployed cube,

Synchronization Without IIS Services

At work, we are exploring SQL Server CE as a possible solution to speeding up our data processing times. We are using a Symbol scanner / mobile computer. I have been creating a prototype for the project lead and customer to evaluate. However, I am having trouble with the synchronization. Ideally, I would use one of the typical synchronization methods such as RDA. However, our customer does not want to have any wireless connection - or have us use any of the IIS services. Basically - they have a leased line between our agency and their agency - but refuse to have internet or a wireless network of any kind due to security concerns. They have made it clear that they don't want any communication between the scanner and pc outside of using the scanner cradle. Is there any way to synchronize the local SQL Server CE database on the scanner with the PC database while still following their guidelines? Before using SQL Server CE, we used RAPI and ActiveSync to communicate. I would like to find a more efficient way - as we were outputting data to a .txt file, moving it from the scanner to the desktop, parsing it, etc. It ended up taking a significant amount of time. Perhaps RAPI and ActiveSync is still the best answer. If so - however, I will need to find a more efficient way of using that method than our previous program.

SQL 2012 :: Security For Web Synchronization (Merge Replication)?
Feb 8, 2015I am trying out merge replication and using web synchronization.However, I am worried that I am missing something because the way it is set up, it strikes me as a bit too insecure.
According to the best practices and security articles on Technet, I am given to understand that:
The SQL Replication Listener (read: the application pool account that will be running the replisapi.dll) has to be the db_owner to both distribution and publisher and be on the PAL list. Windows authenication should be used. That means the merge agents wouldn't need to know the password for those logins.
The basic authenication can be used (with SSL) to authenicate into a Windows user account to then connect to the replisapi.dll.
Here's the rub - I assumed that all I needed was a basic no-rights user account to be then given the execute permission on the replisapi.dll & read permissions to kick off the process. When I browse to the replisapi.dll and authenicate using the no-rights user, I get the expected "SQL Server WebSync ISAPI" message. But when I then run the merge agent, it fails saying that login to the distribution failed for the no-rights user. If I use the application pool's account, then I am able to run merge agent successfully.
But that means I am now looking at storing the password to the application pool account on client. I might have had missed a crucial step to ensure that the logins to the distribution & publication databases are done using the application pool account, not the user authenticated via IIS basic authentication?
SQL 2012 :: Initializing Subscription With Web Synchronization (merge Replication)
May 9, 2015I'm trying out a set up as following:
SQL Server 2008 standard as the publisher
SQL Server 2012 express as the subscriber
and I tend to use web synchronization; there is no domain trust.
After following the instructions at MSDN for configuring web synchronization, I have an error that I can't get past - after creating the initial snapshot on the publisher, I try to run replmerg.exe at the subscriber and I always get this error:
"The subscription to publication 'TestReplication' has expired or does not exist."
If I refresh the publisher's "Local Publications" and look within the "TestReplication", it does show that the subscriber is a known subscriber. Likewise, if I refresh subscriber's "Local Subscription", it has an entry for TestReplication publication.
I already verified that the user used by Replisapi.dll has the read permission to the snapshot folder, is a member of PAL, is db_owner of the publishing database and distribution database. I am using self-signed certificate for this test and I have already installed the certificate at the subscriber machine so that HTTPS is trusted. I can run diagnosis from subscriber so I know subscriber can reach and logs are being left at the publisher's IIS.

Jan 27, 2007The Microsoft Synchronization Services for ADO.NET v1.0 CTP release appeared without fanfare on January 22, 2006. The release contains "v1.0 early CTP" bits for the sync framework and SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition (SSCE) v3.5, the Orcas successor to the SSCE v3.1 RTM bits, which Microsoft released on January 11, 2006. The current code name for Sync Services is OCS (for Occasionally Connected Systems).
Seems to me to resemble a "stealth release."

SQL 2012 :: Compress Data Transfer During Synchronization Between Availability Group Nodes?
Apr 13, 2015I got this situation where my network admin observerd that there is a high network utilization between 2 nodes in our AG (the primary node & the DR site, 2 separate locations of course); then he advised to compress the data transfer between those 2 nodes as the previous DBA already did that before!
Ok, I have no clue about this, so decided to google it, got nothing. My backup is already compressed through some third party app (just in case if that matters to the subject).

Oct 11, 2007Hello, I have a problem when trying to fully process an SSAS database using Integration Services "Analysis Services Processing Task" task. I have 2 of these tasks which are responsible for processing the Dimensions then the Cubes. When I run the package either via the BIDS environment or on the local server from the Integration Services engine, I will get an error after about 20 minutes stating:
"Error: Memory Error: Allocation failure. Not enough storage is available to process this command""Error: Errors in the metadata manager. An error occurred when loading the <cube name> cube from the file \?D:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.2OLAPDataMyWarehouse<cube file>.xml"
The cube name is not specific, it will fail and any of my cubes could be in the error log
If I fully process the AS database using the AS engine (logon to local AS server, right-click AS database and click Process), I get no errors at all, it processes and completes fine. The processing options are identical when I run in AS or via the SSIS "Analysis Services Processing Task" task.
I've searched quite a lot online but no joy, the information I have gleaned from various sites does not directly link SSIS with SSAS processing problems.
When either the AS processing starts via SSAS or SSIS the memory usage of MSMDSRV.exe increases to around 1.4 / 1.5 GB but never goes to 2GB ever, even when the error appears.
I've done the following with no effect.
" Have run via AS and works fine
" No specific cube it fails on
" Have created a Dimension only package, same problem
" Changed the maxmemorylimit
" Changed the connections to localhost
" Memory DOES NOT max out on server
Server Specs:
Windows Server 2003 Standard + Service Pack 2
4GM ram, 2GB paging file
SQL Server 2005 + Service Pack 2
Can anyone help?

Reporting Services - Analysis Services - Displaying Dimension Members As Columns

I have an MDX query - that works fine in SQL Enterprise Manager, and has my dimension members on columns, and my measures on the rows. When I try the same query in Reporting Services, I get the error:
"The query cannot be prepared: The query must have at least one axis. The first axis of the query should not have multiple hierarchies, nor should it reference any dimension other than the Measures dimension..
Parameter name: mdx (MDXQueryGenerator)"
Although it works when you pivot the view, I really need my data presented with the members on the columns and the measures on the rows. Another forum post mentioned using the SQL 9.0 driver, but I can't see this listed anywhere (the only one I see is the .NET framework Data Provider for Microsoft Analysis Services).
Here's what my query looks like -
SELECT
{ [Time].[Month].&[2006-09-01T00:00:00] ,
[Time].[Month].&[2006-10-01T00:00:00],

Analysis Services 2000 + Reporting Services 2005 + Parameters

I'm trying to create reports in RS2005 using AS2000 as my data source. I understand that if I use RS2005 on AS2000, I wont be able to enjoy the OLAP based parameters as in using AS2005. Does anyone know an easy way to easily use Parameters in RS2005 while still using AS2000?

i have a small problem with the data sources in the reporting services, maybe you can clarify the situation... I have a MS CRM 3 solution with the reporting services 2005 installed. From an other vendor we have a arcplan solution on the 2000 analysis services. I would like to get access from the 2005 reporting services to the 2000 cube. Is this possible? Ive read that the SSMS cant connect to the 2000 cubes. Can i connect from the reporting services??

Till now all the reports for our application was created in Reporting Services 2005 with SQL Server Database(OLTP) stored procedures.
Most of the reports take 10 to 15 report Parameters and all are multi valued.
Now because of the slow response time,we have decided to use OLAP cubes data source. We have created the OLAP cube in Microsoft Analysis Services.
Can someone tell me how to use the report parameters to query the Cube.
Any links,books for reference would be of great help..

Web Synchronization - Completed Synchronization Starts Again

There is some strange behaviour i've recently noticed while watching synchronization progress in Replication Monitor on SQL 2005 Server Standard with merge replication configured. The merge process seems to repeat several times.
This is the initial synchronizaion (reinitalization at the subsciber). Client is using Microsoft.SQLServer.Replication objects from .net framework assemblies.
The synchronization starts normally (status is "Running"). The last message of selected session box shows (among other messages): "Beginning evaluating partial replication filters" then "Finished evaluating partial replication filters" and finally "Merge completed after processing xxx changes... etc." after a few seconds. Status changes to "Completed" and then... the merge process starts again!! "Beginning evaluating partial replication filters" etc. And this repeats about 15-20 times.
And so whole process takes about 15 minutes instead about 45 seconds to complete initial synchronization. The number of changes is "Merge completed after processing ..." never change since the first such message.
Is this some bug in web synchronization or some invalid configuration setting? Why does merge process repeat itself so many times??

Reporting Services Authenticating With Analysis Services
Jan 24, 2007Setup: Reporting Services and Analysis Services are on the same server. Active Directory User. Default configuration of Reporting Services.
Problem: Reporting Server does not apply Analysis Services Role after login.
Details:
I have created a report that retreives data from the Analysis Service. I created a role and added my user company/myUserName to the role.
On the Reporting Server I set the data source to :
* Credentials supplied by the user running the report
and
Use as Windows credentials when connecting to the data source
Internally when I connect devsql2005/Reports/ReportName I get the user and password fields. When I fill them in I get the report but I can see all the data while my role was restricted to see only few results.
Can anyone suggest what may be wrong? Any articles or tutorials on how to setup and deploy solutions where Report Server is talking to Analysis Services and NOT Sql Server.

I have Reporting Services on one server and SQL and Analysis Services on another Server. I can develop a report using Analysis Services as the source from my local machine and it works fine. When I deploy it to the Reporting Services Server, it gives the following error:
An error has occurred during report processing.
Cannot create a connection to data source 'DataSource1'.
A connection cannot be made. Ensure that the server is running.
No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it

I want a report that will act as the interface of the Cube browser in Analysis Services. I don't want to give access to the Cube Browser to users, but I want them to be able to drill-through the cube.

MS Analysis Services
Dec 10, 2004I installed MS Analysis Services in my Windows XP (with SP1) desktop. When I try to expand the "+" sign beside the server, I got the following error message: "Unable to connect to the registry on the server, or you are not a member of the OLAP Administrators group on this server."
It is very weird that occasionally I can connect to the server without the above problem. But most of time, I cannot connect to the server and will get the above the error message.
Anyone knows how to fix this problem?

Analysis Services For DBA's.
Feb 2, 2007A lot of job postings these days for SQL DBA's list the requirement of Analysis Services. Not having any experience with it I'm wondering what exactly is meant? Of course its going to vary from company to company, but I really have no clue what they mean in general? Is it cube design? MDX query writing? Simply backing up? To be clear, Im asking in regards specificically for a DBA, not a Developer.
