SQL 2012 :: How To Configure Database Mirroring

Sep 24, 2014

I am trying to configure database mirroring with sql server 2012.

My principal instance and my mirror instance are on different server.

Both SQL Server service run with NT SERVICEMSSQLSERVER.

Now when I am configuring database mirroring, which service account should I use ? database account or server account ?

Instead of using domain account, can I :

1- create local account on my two server

2- Add these 2 logins in my 2 instances.

3- use these local account for configuring database mirroring.

To Configure Database Mirroring-Dont Get Mirror Option In TASK

Jul 7, 2006

To configure database mirroring

After connecting to the principal server instance, in Object Explorer, click the server name to expand the server tree.

Expand Databases, and select the database to be mirrored.

Right-click the database, select Tasks, and then click Mirror. This opens the Mirroring page of the Database Properties dialog box.

To begin configuring mirroring, click the Configure Security button to launch the Configure Database Mirroring Security Wizard.

but i do not see any "Mirror" Option in the "Tasks" menu.

Why ?

Tool To Configure Mirroring

Aug 28, 2007

Apart from SQL Server Management Studio's "configure security" button on the database mirroring tab of the database properties dialog - are there any other tools or scripts that can be used to configure mirroring?

If I can't find one, I'd like to write a script / tool that:
0. paramterizes all the variables involved in database mirroring
a. configures connections to the primary and mirrored SQL Servers
b. does the backup / restore between servers
c. configures endpoints / security
d. checks possible pitfalls (can't connect, firewall, etc.)
e. starts mirroring
f. does all the above for a list of the databases I'd like to mirror (anywhere from 6 to 30 databases)

SSMS wizards get me through most the above - it's just tiresome to repeat for each database.

I have just finished configuring my first test mirrored environment (High safety mode). I setup the database engine service accounts on each of the servers with domainuser. I inherited a production mirrored environment set up by someone else. On the production servers the database engine service account is NT Authorityuser a local account. I am trying to practice installing Windows updates within a mirrored environment and I not sure how to proceed when the service account is NT Authority user account. should I change the service account to a domainuser?

Mirroring :: Limit To Number Of Database Mirrors Per Instance In 2012?

May 13, 2015

I've read here at [URL] that with 32 bit it's recommended to only have 10 database mirrors per instance.  However, is there a limit for 64 bit SQL Server 2012?

We're having a problem where we have about 300+ databases and now any new db's we add are timing out when it comes to setting up mirroring and am wondering if this is limited by the instance.

We are planning to setup HA using either AAG or FC. ON my production environment (P), I have transnational replication configured for 2 of databases out of three. These data get replicated to another server( C1) hosted on cloud, with local distributor at P.

If I configure AAG/ FCI , how do I handle failover?I wanted to setup P as primary AAG with two replicas as S1 and S2. P->S1 will be synchronous while P->S2 will be asynchronous.Incase my P goes down how the replication will failover S1? Incase P and S1 goes down how do I failover to S2 with the replication.

Reporting Services :: Powershell Script To Configure SSRS 2012?

Jun 12, 2015

We have 15-20 report server environments including Dev/SIT/UAT/PROD/DR etc. so instead of configuring it on each servers, we would like a script to use with parameters.

After installing the SSRS 2012 package on each server with given instance and service account, I would like to configure the SSRS through script instead on running the Configuration manager RSConfigTool.exe manually.

we already have created the database beforehand using the scripts provided by WMI. do we need db_owner permission on msdb and master database to configure SSRS?

SQL 2012 :: Can't Remove DB Mirroring

Oct 26, 2012

I created a mirrored DB, added a new datafile to the principal using a path the mirror can't access. As a result the mirroring session was suspended because the mirror stated: "CREATE FILE encountered operating system error 3(The system cannot find the path specified.) while attempting to open or create the physical file".

Fine, so I disabled mirroring on the principal (SET PARTNER OFF) which worked just fine, but the mirror stayed in a mirrored state, Object Explorer saying:"(Mirror, Disconnected / In Recovery). Sooo, I tried to disable db mirroring on the mirror using ALTER DATABASE db SET PARTNER OFF;, which completed successfully, but the DB STILL remained in a mirrored-configuration.

I tried ALTER DATABASE db SET PARTNER FORCE_SERVICE_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS which resulted in

"Msg 1404, Level 16, State 4, Line 1

The command failed because the database mirror is busy. Reissue the command later."

I tried taking the DB offline or restoring it from a backup, but all these operations resulted in "The operation cannot be performed on database "db" because it is involved in a database mirroring session or an availability group."

The only solution I can think of at the moment is shutting down the instance and deleting the data and log-files of the mirrored db, which would be just fine because this is just a test installation, but it would be not quite as easy in a productive environment.

Is there any other way to remove the mirrored state from a disconnected mirror or to simply get rid of the db entirely to perform a recovery?

SQL 2012 :: Mirroring Failover And Failback

Aug 26, 2015

I have the following mirroing setup for DR.

Prinical(ServerA) and Mirror(ServerB)

When we do a DR test we do manual failover from Principal(ServerA) to Mirror(ServerB)

Now
ServerB is Prinicpal
ServerA is Mirror

Applications do their testing against the new principal which is ServerB but dont want to take those changes or sync to ServerA(Mirror).

Is there any way to do this without breaking the mirror?

Finally It will go back to original setup after the test which Server A is Principal and Server B will be its mirror.

The problem ISN'T NETWORK

using conventional mirroring, the same workload never falls behind, throughput plateaus at ~26Mbs.

it's almost like log stream compression isn't happening for AG...

both mirroring and AG are using async.

I know each server requires the account of the other two adding but as this will be the same account I assume this doesn't apply?

Also for mirrored databases already set up would I need to reconfigure the security for each one?

Is there anything I am missing?

How To Configure Distributor Thread For Being Up While Replicated Database Is Down

May 1, 2006

Hi

I often deal with a problem when replicated database is down due to
electric outage or any other scheduled type of downtime. Primary
database is up but distribution agent is going down 'after 10 attempts
to connect to replicated database'. That's the problem I think because
not only distribution agent goes in undetermined state and I have to
restart sqlagent service, but I need to go through whole process of
snapshot and applaying it to replicated db. I would like it to
accumulate transactions in distribution database and once replicated db
is up - distribute them.

I wonder if anybody can tell me how to configure distribution thread so
it does not go down after 10 unsuccessfull attempts but stays for day
or two.

Thank you, Gene.
