Hi all,
I am trying to create a report against an Access 2003 database using the provider as follows: "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;"
Simple reports with no parameters are fine (e.g. using a text query of 'Select * from BERs'
But how do I pass in a report parameter to limit the results coming back ? I have only used stored procs in the past which work fine but how to achieved this using Access has me stumped.
An example query I need would be 'Select * from BERs WHERE Year = [Year?]'
Anyone got any pointers ?
Thanks in advance
Steve

Usually when in the process of migration, how to calculate how much time it will take to migrate the database. If a database full backup is taking approximately 3 hr how much time it will take to restore that database.
Which process is better to migrate the SQL server from 2008 to 2014.
Database migration wizard or restoring the db using backup file?
Usually if you are new to the sql server and you don't have any idea about the OS how can you find how much time it will take for migration for each database and for all databases

hi,
I migrated the Northwind database using SQL Migration Assistant for Access. it worked fine and I was able to link the access forms to Local machine SQL Server 2005 and it worked fine.
Now i want to link the same Northwind access database to Another Server on the network.
When i try to run the wizard again, it won't migrate the user objects like tables to server, it will just create a database and that is it.
it will give me this error too.
No User objects were selected.
any idea,
Thanks,
Fahim

I've installed SQL 2005 Express Addition which created a default database using Windows Authentication -- MachineName/SQLEXPRES. I want to convert some access databases to sql server in the migration assistant, however, when I try to connect the migration assistant to the default database I can't find the database in the drop down box wizard? I'm perplexed? Please shed some light or point me to some articles that will help. Thanks.

SQL server 2005 express reporting problem.
error message:
This feature "remote access to report data sources and/or the report server database" is not supported in this edition of reporting service
I got this error message when I try to connect to database hosted in another PC running SQL server 2000.
Is it true that SQlL server Express can only use Local Database Engine to host the database?

Hi Everyone, what im looking for is a way or a freeware utility that will genereate a single SQL Script, for my entire db...
Just like phpMyAdmin does for MySQL...
it would need to script my tables, the data of those tables, and all my stored proc's.
Can SQL Server management studio do this? or does anyone know of a utility that will.
Thanks, Justin

Below query tells us if guest user is enabled or disabled in a particular database
SELECT dp.name, CASE perms.class WHEN 0 THEN 'Yes' ELSE 'No' END AS 'Enabled'
FROM sys.database_principals dp
LEFT JOIN (SELECT grantee_principal_id, class FROM sys.database_permissions
WHERE class = 0 AND type = 'CO' AND state = 'G') AS perms
ON dp.principal_id = perms.grantee_principal_id
WHERE dp.name = 'guest';
Do we have a query which can also add the database name to above query output? The output must have columns with data against Name,Enabled,Database name

1) I uninstalled Advanced SQL with Report Server to install 2005 SQL Developers Editions.
2) For some reason I am unable to completely uninstall Express Report Server.
3) Configuration Manager is still showing SQL Exp Report Server, even though I uninstalled Advanced Server.
4)I tried to remove though A/R programs (using my 2005 DE) - I see it listed but I receive the following error:The setup failed to read IISmime maptable the error code is -2147024893.
5) When I try to use 2005 Report Service Config Manager, I receive the following error: An unknown error in WMI Provider Error code 80040219 wmi provider.
So I am unable to setup my 2005 SQL DE Report Server.
Any ideas on uninstalling Express Report Server...This might be part of my problem.
Thanks

Are there ways in SQL server to deny connecting to a instance? Basically i am looking for a way where data is accessed only through application , even the DBA's shouldn't have access to the data though they are sysadmins? Someone told me this is possible in SQL 2014? This is only for individual access, i know i can put some encryption in app layer.

I have to create a query that will be returning the users and the application modules they have access for. Along with the list of users and modules the query should also return if any module is not accessible for that user.
The 'ApplicationUsers' table is like this:
CREATE TABLE #ApplicationUsers
(
userId INT,
UserName VARCHAR(50)
)
INSERT INTO #ApplicationUsers VALUES
(1, 'Daniel'), (2,'Martin'), (3, 'Brandon'), (4, 'Doug')The 'ApplicationModule' table is like this:
[Code] .....
I used pivot query but there are a couple of limitations in it(may be I am making mistakes in it). First, the pivot columns are static whereas I need dynamic column names(Application Modules). Second, I need to include all the users with all the modules with access or without access that I am unable to achieve.

I ran the database consistency on 2 databases, the first little used (and relatively new), the other much more active. On the little used db the report didn't return any lines. On the much more active DB it returned 6 lines (one each for the last 6 days). They all reported 0 errors. Should I be concerned that the one database is actually reporting information, even if it appears to tell me "all clear"?

We are running SQL Server 2012 on Windows 2008 Server. In one database, we would like to create a view which access objects in another database without giving the user permissions to the underlying base tables in the other database. The ownership chain is broken in this case. Can this be accomplished (considering the ownership chain is broken)? If so, what is the easiest method to accomplish this task? Or
Example 1 (Works):
In DB1:
--UserA selects from Schema1.View1 (which access tables in DB2).
In DB2:
--UserA exists with select permissions on the base tables accessed by Schema1.View1 (in DB1).
Example 2 (trying to accomplish):
In DB1:
--UserA selects from Schema1.View1 (which access tables in DB2).
In DB2:
--UserA exists (or may not exists) with NO permissions on the base tables accessed by Schema1.View1 (in DB1).

At work we are migrating several Access databases to SQL Server 2005 standard edition. These Access databases have no user interface forms. They do however have a series of macros that execute make table queries.
I'm trying to determine what are options are for replacing the make table queries in the macros. My first thought was to do the work in a SQL Server stored prodecure. I am asking for advice on what our options are. Is a stored procedure the way to go? Any suggestions on how to do it?
Thanks.

I can pass a parameter from an Access Query to an Access Report (MDB) by entering [Select Date] in the Query criteria and by placing an unbound control with a control source =[Select Date] on the report. I can't get this to work from a SQL Function Criteria to an unbound control on the Access Data Project Report. In the Function Criteria, I enter @SelectDate. In the Report control, I enter @SelectDate and it gives me an 'Invalide Column Name' error. Any idea how I can pass a parameter from a SQL Function to an ADP report?
THANKS!
p.s. I tried searching for other postings on this without any luck.

Hello all,
Does anyone know of a utility to migrate Access 97 Queries to SQL Server 7?
I've over 400 of them and I am trying not to have to do them by hand.
Also I tried to use to migration wizard from MS instead of the DTS and all I got was Error after error. 'Invalid Date/Time', 'Error with YES/NO field' and 'Timed out' were the most common. In the end only 4 tables out of 89 were migrated.
Any suggestions would be greatly Appreciated.

Hi-
Can you give me any help/assistance on the development process involved with migration from MS Access to SQL Server 7.
Specifically, I need my current MS Access data migrated to SQL, and then I need two (2) fairly simple forms developed for data input and searching on the web.
The developers I have been speaking too seem to want to buy their Hawaiian condo from this one project...which seems like A LOT OF $$ for the development of an off-the-shelf product that costs $15,000.
Any leads and/or thoughts would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.
THANKS.

Hello,We maintain a VB6 front-end application using an Access 2000 database. Allcode and forms are in VB6. The program also uses several queries/reportsdefined in Access. For corporate reasons we must move to SQL Server rightaway. Based on our configuration, we're hoping someone can give us a feelfor what's involved here. Since we're only using Access for the data we'renot sure what an "upsizing" would entail. Can someone point us in the rightdirection, tell us the main gotchas, etc. Thanks a lot.Teri Welch

Hello,
I'm very new to MS SQL Server; I just downloaded Express 2005 yesterday. I have it up and running; it seems to be working fine.
Now onto business - I need to migrate data from existing MS Access 2003. How, exactly, do I do this? I've tried searching MSDN, TechNet, and here, and while I get results that seem to tell part of the story, I don't seem to get a true "How to" for this task.
Can someone please assist me with this?
Thank you.

I am in the process of migrating 40 access databases to SQL Server. I am migrating the tables to the backend. All of these databases are Identical in structure and purpose. The goal is to centralize all of the databases backends into one Sql server database, but the data needs to stay seperated by each location. So I added a location field to each table in the database; so that each locations data will be seperated by location. How do I go about filtering out the the data so that each location can only update, delete, an view their own data? (I dont mind a long answer.)

I was really happy to see the Migration Assitant for transferring the Access2000 data to SQL 2005.
Unfortunately, during the migration wizard, when it comes to the window of "connect to SQL Server 2005" it gives an error. It says "Connection to SQL Server Failed. An error has occured while establishing connection to the server... also point out it could be SQL server not allowing remote connections (I checked), and something that says: provider: named pipes provider , error 40" ... I'm stuck at this window. Please please help?
you can email me directly if you wish to fh.erdogan(at)gmail.com
Thanks.
p.s. I have a fresh install of SQL Server 2005. All on the same machine.

Hi guys.
I'm using the SSMA to migrate Access databases into SQL Sever. It's a pretty nifty tool, however, I am having some trouble fully migrating the data over.
When I select 'Convert Schema' the schemas for all the tables are created on the server and *all* the table names appear in the Server Metadata Explorer. There are the usual warnings about name changes and primary key additions and the like but importantly, the output window says that there were no errors. Scrolling through all the tables on the server explorer with the 'Table' tab selected confirms that the schemas for all the tables have been migrated, but for one or two of the newly created tables, the 'Data' tab shows the error message "Failed to retrieve data: Invalid object name 'NewDB.dbo.Pref'" for example. Consequently, when I move on to migrating the data, the operation fails for the tables showing these errors and the error message 'The table 'NewDB.dbo.[Pref]' does not exist in SQL Server' is shown when it is displaying in the Metadata Explorer. When I view the server schema in Management Studio Express, it confirms that they have not been migrated. I have tried to look at the failing tables' schemas and identify any similarities which might be causing them to fail migration but they are all very different so I don't think it's a schema issue.
Any ideas? TIA

I've set up a report server on IIS on my local machine using SSRS 2005. All is well in the world--it shows up, and I can publish reports and have them display successfully.
However, I'm trying to publish a couple of reports based on an Access database--and this is where the problem lies. The reports run perfectly in Visual Studio, which is on the same machine as the report server. Thus, I can deduce that the ODBC connection to the Access database is set up properly. There are no errors on the report, which means that the reports are set up correctly. I've spent the last day researching the problem, but nothing I've tried thus far (from putting the Access database in a shared folder to changing security on the file and report server to rebuilding the reports from scratch) works. The exact error is given below, with the data source name changed:
An error has occurred during report processing.
Cannot create a connection to data source 'MyODBCDataSource.
ERROR [HY024] [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] '(unknown)' is not a valid path. Make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides. ERROR [IM006] [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed ERROR [HY024] [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] '(unknown)' is not a valid path. Make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides.
Can anyone suggest something I missed? I'm stumped on this one.
Edit: Just to clarify, EVERYTHING is on my local machine--the web browser I'm viewing from, IIS, SSRS 2005, the Access database, the ODBC connection (in the System DSN), everything.

We log ship our production database tansaction logs to a secondary database on a separate remote domain.
Incidentally, this was not set up via the "Ship Transaction Logs" wizard, but instead we had to use the various system stored procedures after restoring a copy of the database on the remote domain in standby mode.
We now have an issue where users are unable to access the remote secondary database without having sysadmin privileges. Clearly we want to avoid this!
We want to be able to use Windows Authentication mode on the server of the secondary database. But since the two domains differ, is it possible to even achieve this?
How can we set up read-only access for users on the secondary database without giving them sysadmin privileges?
