Sql Server Desktop Edition

my application has a good amount of data that is specific to each company (where there is only one user). i am currently setting it up as a access project, but was wondering about another route. to store the local data would there be an advantage to setting it up as a access project, and use the sql server desktop engine for the data, or should i stick with mdb tables?

Desktop Platform Support For SQL Server Compact Edition?

Sep 10, 2007

Hi-

I am doing some technology research for a new app and was wondering about the desktop operating system support for SQL Server compact edition. This app has a PC component and a mobile component, and both need to be data enabled, with syncronization between the PC and the mobile device.

So it seems like SSCE would be a good fit. Just run the SSCE client on both the PC and the device. But in the system requirements for SSCE it only gives XP as a valid desktop OS...

Is that correct? Obviously, desktop platform support for a production app will need to be broader than just XP.

Will SSCE desktop run on Win98,Win2000,XP Home, and Vista?

How Can I Install SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition's Management Studio On A Desktop Machine?

Aug 21, 2007

I have installed Visual Studio 2005 Prof Edition on a Vista machine and SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition on a Windows 2000 server. They will be used as a development environment for us. As we need to management the SQL Server 2005, we would like to install the 2005 Developer SSMS on the Vista machine such that we can manage the SQL Server 2005 developer instance installed on that Win2k machine. However, the system does not allow us to do it. We have the express edition autoamtically installed while we installed the Vistual Studio. Is there any workaround that i can still install the 2005 developer SSMS without uninstall the sql server 2005 Xpress version? Or, I have to uninstall the Xpress version before i can install the 2005 developer's SSMS? Please help!

Unable To Connect To SSIS Or SSRS On SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition Server Via Desktop Connection

Mar 8, 2008

Hi,

I€™ve developed a BI system using the SQL Server 2005 Developer€™s Edition.

SSAS, SSIS and SSRS have been added to a SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition Server in preparation for delivering the developed database to this live environment.

So I am able to connect directly to the Database Engine, SSAS, SSIS and SSRS successfully from the actual SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition box which is sat on a Windows 2003 Server operating system.

However when I launch SQL Server Management Studio from a desk top PC which is connected to the SQL Server Standard Edition box I can€™t connect to either SSIS or SSRS, however I can connect to the Database Engine and it also seems that I can connect to SSAS OK.

I am using Windows Authentication where the I used a SQL Server account which exists with €śsysadmin€? permissions and this SQL Server account has the same login name as the Windows Server 2003 desktop login.

What do I do next please?

Licence Question

Jul 23, 2005

Server setup:Server with 4 CPU's and 4G of RamThe server is used as a distributor between a separate publisher and aseparate subscriber sever. My question is:1)Can I install Standard edition of SQl Server on the distributorserver or does it need to be Enterprise. Keeping in mind that theservers primary role is to serve as a distributor in a replconfiguration.2)Can I license the server per CAL or does it need to be by CPU. I'mthinking I could license it by CAL, so I would only need to purchase acouple of CALS for the replication agents that run on the server... isthis assumption correct?Thx in advance.

Licence Question

Jun 30, 2006

Hi,

I'm new to SQL Server and have two questions.

We use the "old" MSDE Engine to host our time management database.
Now we have to change the server due a hardware defect. The new machine is a Dual Xeon 3GHZ with 2GB RAM with windows 2000 server on it.
Is it allowed to use the express edition on this machine and are where any known problems for the client access?

I known many useless questions, but I didn't found any informations about these topics.

Thx for your help.

Urgent Licence Query

Dec 18, 2001

The question is regarding licences for clients who want to put their databases on the internet using our web servers. We have this in our price list as a service. We have been offering this service for a ong time.

Now we are using old licences v 7.0 for NT servers, and we need version w2000 for w2000 servers.

Our doubt is how to work the concurrent users through the internet. Can a server with mnimum number of licences serve hundereds of users through the internet, since users don't access the sql databases directly?

If anyone could help I would really appreciate it, or even offer a reference article

Microsoft .NET Data Provider For MySAP Business Suite Licence Implications?

Jul 25, 2007

Hello Everyone,

Does anyone know if there are any licence implications (SAP side) against Microsoft .NET Data Provider for mySAP Business Suite?

I heard from a colleague that if my SQL Server has (for example) 5 users, if SQL does connect to SAP, it would require the user license of 5 more users?

If there any implications similar to this one with SAP?

SQL 2008 Developer Edition Management Studio Does Not Work For Compact Edition 3.5 Databases

Sep 27, 2007

I am attempting to use the SQL Server 2008 Developer Edition (Management Studio) to create/manage a Compact Edition 3.5 database. My problem is that I cannot even create/open the compact database in Management Studio. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. TIA

Problem Creating the Compact Database:

Open 2008 Management Studio

From menu choose File | Connect Object Explorer...

Choose SQL Server Compact Edition as the Server type.

Choose <New Database...> as the Database file.

Browse to folder where file will be created (C:MyDatabase#1.sdf was used in my example)

Leave all other field as default selections OR make changes, either way it does not work.

Click OK.

At this point the OK button just becomes disabled and nothing happens.
Problem Opening An Existing Compact Database:

Open 2008 Management Studio

From menu choose File | Connect Object Explorer...

Choose SQL Server Compact Edition as the Server type.

Choose <Browse for more...> as the Database file and locate a ".sdf" file that I created using VS2008.

Enter password, if any.

Click OK.

SQL Server Setup has encountered the following problem: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]The certificate cannot be dropped because one or more entities are either signed or encrypted using it.. To continue, correct the problem, and then run SQL Server Setup again.

This installation does not have encryption enabled, so I do not undersand the error or how to correct it.

Downgrade Path From SQL 2005 Enterprise Trial Edition To Standard Edition

Hi all--I'm researching the cleanest downgrade path from a trial edition of SQL Server 2005 Enterprise to a licensed Standard Edition copy. Detaching the old databases will preserve the non-system databases; what method would work best for restoring the system databases?
