Had intial release installed; deleted it and associated software, and downloaded advanced, sp1 and mgmt. studio sp1.
Go to install and get just warnings(2-IIS and hardware);install goes on
then fails; look at log and it says my system doesn't meet minimum
hardware requirements.
Look at hardware requirements on readme and at MS and my system DOES
meet 'minumum reuquirements'; he only thing close is the 512 mb minimum
memory which is what my system has, 512mb memory.
1.7 P4, 30 gig of hard drive space,.net2.0,win2k with SP4,etc..
Anyone know what a workaround is or is this a 'bug'?

When we do a clean install of SQL Express Advanced SP2, it installs SSMSEE with a 02/10/2007 date. However, if we do an "ugrade" install of an existing SQL Express SP1, SSMSEE does NOT get updated; it leaves the 04/14/2006 version on the target machine. Do we need to expressly install SSMSEE when doing an upgrade?

I'm just running the install directly from the executable thats downloaded from the microsoft site and get the following warning which then causes the install to exit (gracefully).
Is this something that needs to be set before installing? I can't find any documentation on it.

I recently downloaded and attempted to install this express edition. I currently have the SQL Server Standard 2005 installed on my cpu but is dedicated to the Business Manger for my Outlook 2007. Normally I suppose this is not an issue but the edition does not have the reporting feature, hence the reason for downloading this new edition. My system meets all required specs but when I get to the last step of configuration, I get an error message. The error message occurs while configuring the OWC11 and Reporting. After the rest is configured it then tells me that the program failed to install.I am running Microsoft Office 2007 with exception of Access, which is ver. 2000. I have all programs running in compatibiltiy mode since others in the office are still running Office 2000. Any suggestions would be welcome.
Error 1706. Setup cannot find the required files. Check your connection to the network or CD-Rom drive. For other potential solutions to this problem, see C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice 111033SETUP.CHM.

hello, i´d like to work with (first learn) all features of the SQL Server Express Advanced Service and Visual Basic 2005 (incl. Connect SQL Server databases from Visual Studio/ VB2005). Before I´ll make a mistake with the install (the numerous versions make me confused) I´d like to ask you which is the correct way to install both:
1) Should I first install SQLServer Express Advanced Service and then Visual Studio (Visual Basic without SQLServerExpress - if it´s possible switch off this compound) ??
or
2) Install Visual Studio Express (I´ve got the DVD from Microsoft) with (or without ?) the SQLServerExpress Edition and then upgrade to the SQLServer Express Advanced Service by starting the SSE Advanced-Service setup-file ??
thank you very much in advance

I tried to install 'SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services'. First, I uninstalled the old version thru Add/Delete Programs in the Control Panel.
My first problem was I didn't have IIS installed on my computer, but, I could not find it in the downloads section.
Then the installation aborted because old version databases were in C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData. But, it would not let me delete them, saying that they were being used, even though nothing was running at the time that I tried to delete them.

I get the following error message each time I try to install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services SP2:
Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) is either not installed or is disabled. IIS is required by some SQL Server features. Without IIS, some SQL Server features will not be available for installation. To install all SQL Server features, install IIS from Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel or enable the IIS service through the Control Panel if it is already installed, and then run SQL Server Setup again. For a list of features that depend on IIS, see Features Supported by Editions of SQL Server in Books Online.
This problem is described in:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/920201
and each of the IIS 7 components specified in this article have been installed.
When I continue with:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934162,
the script 'adsutil.vbs' cannot be executed because it does not exist anywhere on my drive.
My question is, what is the 'adsutil.vbs' script and how do I get a hold of it? Are these contortions really necessary to get SQL server working or has MS provided a patch for this nasty problem?
My system:
VISTA Home Premium, x64
Intel Quad CPU, 2.4GHz
4Gig RAM
500Gig hard disk
Thanks,
Ian

Also earlier attempts to install have left services for named instances that I cannot install to such as SQLEXPRESS , SQLEXPRESS1 and CURRIEREXPRESS, I long ago had a beta version installed and have attempted numerous methods to completely wipe these out using the uninstallbetas tool from Microsoft as well as a number of suggestions from some posts.
Please help - The most significant reason I'm installing this is to practice creating SQL Reporting Service reports

The current system does not meet the minimum hardware requirements for this SQL Server release. For detailed hardware and software requirements, see the readme file or SQL Server Books Online
I have looked at the requirements in the books and it seems that I meet or exceed the minimums.
Does anyone have an idea what I can do now?

So, I read this thread: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=416220&SiteID=1, which suggested that I could call SQLEXPR32.EXE (the SP2 download) with the relevant commandline args in exactly the same way I could call setup.exe. Namely, if I were to call:
Code Snippetsetup.exe /qb /settings "c:/setup.ini"
then I should be able to use
Code SnippetSQLEXPR32.exe /qb /settings "c:/setup.ini"
where my setup.ini contains
Code Snippet[Options]
ADDLOCAL=SQL_Data_Files,SQL_Replication,Connectivity
INSTANCENAME=AuctionI
SAPWD=auctioni_000
SECURITYMODE=SQL
However, this doesn't seem to be working at all - the commandline params to SQLEXPR32.EXE are completely ignored, and it runs as if they were not specified.
Would be great to get some help on this. I'm equally happy with the set of commands I need to call in order to extract SQLEXPR32 and then run setup, but SQLEXPR32 seems to extract to a random GUID dir, and automatically start setup, neither of which is condusive to automating it.
Thanks,
Dan

I have SQL Express 2005 with Advanced Services on a development box that I also want to have installed side-by-side with SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition so I can develop apps using either edition based on the features I need (or don't need). From what I understand from sifting through other posts is that side-by-side installs of these two editions is supported and I should setup a named instance for each edition (SQLEXPRESS for the express edition and MSSQLSERVER for the standard edition). Is this setup accurate or is there another/better way?
Also, does anybody know if side-by-side installations of Reporting Services is also supported? If I install SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition with Reporting Services, will there be two different report servers running in IIS? Since there are different features in Reporting Services between the two editions, I'm not sure how side-by-side installations will effect one another.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Tony

I have an installation of 2005 Express and I am attempting to install advanced services. I have tried uninstalling all .net service packs as well as installing with the skuupgrade=1 tag, but I still receive a message stating that the currently installed version is more recent that the version I am attempting to install. What might I be missing here?

Hi. I'm trying to get full-text search working on my SQL 2005 Express with Advanced Services and am having problems. I thought that I installed it correctly, and when I look in the services running, I see it SQL Server Fulltext Search(MSSQLSERVER). Also note that I have SQL Server 2005 Standard installed on this same laptop. I don't know if that Full text Search applies to the Standard, Express or both.
What I do see is that if I connect to the database engine named <mylaptop>, I can see the version is 9.0.1399 and I can see the check box to enable full-text indexing in a particular databases properties. When I run SELECT FULLTEXTSERVICEPROPERTY('IsFullTextInstalled'), I get a 1.
However, when I connect to the engine name <mylaptop>SQLExpress, I se the version is 9.0.3042, and I don't see the same check-box to enable full-text indexing. When I run SELECT FULLTEXTSERVICEPROPERTY('IsFullTextInstalled'), I get a 0.
I've never tried this before so I know I'm probably missing something basic. But, I have searched quite a bit and not found my answer. So, I'm looking to you for help.
Thanks in advance.
John.

When I try to install SQL Server 2005 Expess SP2 with Advanced Services on a clean Windows XP system that has had Service Pack 3 applied I get the error "Setup is missing prerequisites: - MSXML6" when it starts to install SQL Server Management Studio Express. This is despite the fact that earlier in the installation is says it installed MSXML6, and my understanding is that MSXML6 is part of Windows XP Service Pack 3 anyway.

Hi folks
I have a 64 bit Vista Home Premium PC SP1.
I downloaded and attempted to install the 64 bit version of SQL Express and I then got an error message to do with the ASP.NET Version registration requirement.
I then noticed a similar problem somebody else had & they solved it by doing the install/download as part of the Visual web Developer Expr installation - so I did the same. It seemed to work without any problems.
I had previously downloaded the 64 bit Management Studio Expr file, so after installing SQL server I attempted to install the management Studio program. Anyhow after starting the install program, I discovered that the instructions were either in Japanese or Chinese.
On the download page for SQL Server Express http://www.microsoft.com/express/sql/download/default.aspx, Under section 3 on the RHS it talks about Advanced Services & the Toolkit. Presumably, those downloads are for the 32 bit version, so is it possible to get a 64 bit version of Reporting Services & full-text search & the toolkit?
Anyway, if somebody could give me a bit of a clue I would really appreciate it.
Kind regards
Ross

Hi There,
I know this might be slighty off topic, but (apart from the CPU, RAM & DB size limits) does anyone know if Express SQL server has any performance / concurrent connection restrictions when compared to SQL 2005 Standard?
Many thanks
Ben

Hi,
I would like exploring Reporting Services associated with SQL Express Edition so i tried installing "SQLEXPR_ADV_.EXE" the package available on download SQL site, but after having selected Reporting Services option I've got an error explaining that component "sqlserver2005_bc.msi" is to be changed.
As this component is part of "SQLEXPR_ADV_.EXE" package is there anybody knowing an alternative solution ?

Hello,
I am reading the SQL Express home page and kinda getting confused.
If I wanted to host my wevsite on SQL what version would suit me?
Also I see the toolkit offered with Advanced but it looks as if it is already included in the advanced dowload?
I am just ot sure what to download.
Any advice would be great!
Thanks

I am wondering an official answer on if Sql Express supports users creating their own reports and if it supports Integration Services or Analysis Services.

What is the Difference between the SQL Server Express Bundled with C#/VB VS the downloadable SQL Server Express SP1 with advanced Services?
I installed C# with SQL Server Express, however I wanted to add the Full Text Searching and the SQL Server Management Studio Express, so I downloaded and installed the SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services SP1. When I installed it over top of my current installation, it complained of version mismatching, and then C# failed to recognize that I had SQL 2005 Express installed at all.
What I'd like to know is, which version is more current (they have to be different, they had different version numbers, one was 9.xx.xxxx the other was 2005.9.xx.xxxx) The one bundled with C#, or the SP1 downloadable one.
Firstly, I want to be up todate as far as security patches, and Secondly, how do I add the full text searching and SSMSE to the one bundled with C# without breaking it.

Hi, I currently have SQL Server 2005 Express installed, but I want to be able to implement a full-text search, and for that I need to install the advanced version. Is there a way of just installing the advanced features on top of my current installation? I've tried uninstalling but I've had no end of problems and it's driving me mad! Thanksmander

Stephen Hickey writes "We are creating a pocket pc application that utilises data on a SQL Server 2005 express database.
Is it possible to use the rda.Pull() and the rda.SubmitSql() functions when using SQL Server 2005 Express edition.
It appears to us that it will not work because you only get the replication Subsciber agent in this edition and dont get the Replication Publisher and Distributor agents in SQL Server 2005 Express."

I just downloaded SQLEXPR_ADV.EXE (256 MB) and tried installing it twice. I want to get the full-text indexing capability, and I understand that I need the Advanced Edition of SQL Server 2005 Express to get this capability. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but the full-text indexing capability doesn't seem to be getting installed, even though I chose it as one of the options to install. When I try to run the following query, it tells me that the full-text indexing is not installed:
<CODE>
CREATE UNIQUE INDEX ui_Products ON Products(ProductID);
CREATE FULLTEXT CATALOG ft AS DEFAULT;
CREATE FULLTEXT INDEX ON Products(CatalogText) KEY INDEX ui_Products;
GO
</CODE>
I thought the problem might be related to which instance I chose, so that's why I tried it two different times. What am I doing wrong? How do I get this capability installed?

I'm writing an application that uses Sql Express 2005 with Advanced Services (for fulltext indexing) and will be needing to deploy the database server. I just realized that the install is 230+MB. Is there a way to trim this down to just the components/features I need?
Thanks,
Eric
