How To Add A New .mdf With ONLY Sql Authentication In SQL Express?

Jan 29, 2006

Hi all.

I am going around in circles all day on this.

I have a clean new install of win XP SP2, VS 2005 Pro RTM,
and a NAMED instance of Sql Express with mixed authentication mode specified at setup.
The sa pw is 123456

I would have liked just SQL authentication but no such option.

I am trying to add a new mdf file. If I just use the "Add New Item" in VS web app project it just adds a new .mdf file with windows authentication tied to the current profile I am logged in the os with. I am trying to avoid that as this projects is to be zipped and downloaded as a sample app. I am also trying to avoid embedding an instance of SSE as the recipients of the zip file already have SSE running iwth thei VS IDE.

So most logical is to create the file with SQL authentication.
I have to do it by the Add Connection GUI

and for data source: "Microsoft SQL Server Database File (SqlClient) "

for data file name: C:WebSitesWebsite1App_DataMyDatabase1.mdf (not yet existing file)

Use SQl server authentication:

user: sa, password: 123456 (the ones specified at set up of the SSE)

I keep getting

Login failed for user 'sa'. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.

I keep getting the same error no matter what username I use or password, the current login, etc. It just does not let me use sql authentication.

Please help anyone. This is a nightmare.

SQL Express --Windows Authentication Problems

Apr 6, 2006

We are using a client server setup.

In testing, several people are testing on laptops.

The database on SQL Server Express is local, on the laptop. So is the client applicatioon.
When they unplug from the Network, and go home to work, we get "Cannot Find Server" problems.

Why is this?
Windows Authenentication turns off? or is it the fact that TCP / IP is open?

What can we do?
If we use the SQL Server Authentication, it works.

If we shut down, plug into the network, restart, it works.

Could anyone please throw light on this?

Thanks in advance .
Jeeves

Linked Server Authentication Error - [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 7303)

May 5, 2008

Hi Guys:

Our company wanted to try out SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition (64 Bit). So, we were on free trial of the Enterprise Edition for past 5 months. After which we decided to go for SQL SERVER 2005 Standard Edition (64 Bit). And, Last week, we installed the SQL Server Standard Edition (64 Bit) on our server. After installation, everything was restored as before.

The version we are on right now is:

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.3054.00 (X64) Mar 23 2007 18:41:50 Copyright (c) 1988-2005 Microsoft Corporation Standard Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 5.2 (Build 3790: Service Pack 2)

Strangely, a job which ran fine till then is failing with the following error: And, to be more specific, when this job is run manually in the form of a stored procedure using the query optimizer it runs fine. But, when its executed as a scheduled job on SQL Agent, it fails. The History logs record the following error.

Error :

The OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "LV-SQL2" reported an error. Authentication failed. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 7399) Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "LV-SQL2". [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 7303) OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "LV-SQL2" returned message "Invalid authorization specification". [SQLSTATE 01000] (Error 7412).

I tried everything possible, even recreated the job, but, no avail.

I also considered the possibility if SQL Agent login account did not have enough permissions. So, I changed the SQL Agent login to windows authentication, but the job still fails. So, its the problem has nothing to do with login accounts either.

For the record, I have cross checked all these too.

1. Enabled the remote connections in Surface Area Config

2. Added local server login to remote server login mappings.

3. Checked 'Rpc' and 'Rpc Out' under server options. Also, the Connection Timeout and Query Timeout have been set to zero (0).

Any suggestions pointing towards problem solution appreciated.

Thank you.

ASP Authentication With SQL Server 2005 - Not Express, Permanent Change

May 8, 2006

Hi all,
I've read up on the fact that if you use SQL server 2005 instead of SQL express you need to change the connection string in web.config.
Is there anyway to make this default connection type, or do I have to do it for every website I create. i.e. is there a global file that this connection can be entered into. Then whenever I start a new website I don't have to put the string in.
Just me being lazy really. But it's nice to know if it's possible.

Many thanks

Who Is The Default Owner For Sql Express In Windows Authentication Mode?

Aug 1, 2007

If i create a database in sql express in windows authentication mode, the database owner is in the format of 'MACHINENAMEUSERNAME'. If i connect this database to iis server i got login failed error message.

This is my connection string in my web.config :
Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=True;Initial Catalog=dbsgh;Data Source=software92sqlexpress

I solved this problem by creating a login in sqlexpress called 'software92/aspnet' and creating a user for my database named aspnet under 'software92/aspnet' login. Then i changed the usrename in directory security of my iis virtual directory to 'software92/aspnet'.
This solves my problem. But i think i m solving this problem in a wrong way.
I think i should create that database under default owner. Who is the default owner?

I dont know the correct procedure to solve this.
Please help.

Form Authentication: The Remote Server Returned An Error: (500) Internal Server Error.

Mar 11, 2008

I got Form Authentication to work, but I am getting this error sometimes. To reproduce this error consistantly is to run iisreset.exe to have a fresh start. Go to my report server login and open any report.

The page will display: The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error.

If i click "F5" to refresh the page the report will show up or if you go to another report it will work also. It is just the first time after iisreset.exe. It is very strange.

Error When Deploying Forms Authentication Sample

Feb 20, 2007

Hello

I'm trying to get the forms authentication sample working - I have followed the instructions given in the ReadMe that came with the samples. When I try to browse to localhost/reportserver (on the server), instead of seeing the logon page as expected, I get the following error message:

An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details. (rsInternalError) Get Online Help

Request for the permission of type 'System.Web.AspNetHostingPermission, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed.

Request for the permission of type 'System.Web.AspNetHostingPermission, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed.

I built the sample in VS 2005, and am using v2 of .net. Reporting services is installed on a windows server 2003 machine.

This has been driving me crazy for a while now. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance

Dominic
