SQL Express: Duplicate, Rename And Copy A Database
Jun 18, 2008
Hi,
first of all escuse my English. I'm new to SQL Server, my experience is with MySQL, Interbase and Firebird, but now I have a new job so I need to use SQL Server, version 2005 Express.
I have two SQL 2005 Express installations in two different machines (local and remote). I can access both servers via SQL Management Studio
I need to do the following:
1) Create a copy of a database with a new name in the same machine (local).
2) Copy the new renamed database to another host (remote)
Please help me, remember I use Express edition.
How does one make a copy of a database (with the data) on the sameserver. Would like to do this to use the copy in a test environment. Ilooked at the Copy Database Wizard but the instructions in Books Onlinestate that the database must be copied to another server and cannot berenamed using this process.Thank you.
Hi all, I have read/studied (i) Working with Databases in Visual Web Developer 2005 Express in http://quickstarts.asp.net/QuickStartv20/aspnet/doc/data/vwd.aspx, (ii) Xcopy Deployment (SQL Server Express) in http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms165716.aspx, (iii) User Instances for Non-Administrators in http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143684.aspx, and (iv) Embedding SQL Server Server Express in Applications in http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms165660.aspx. I do not understand the concepts and procedures to do Xcopy and User Instances for non-administrators completely-I do not know how to connect to databases and create database diagrams or schemas using the Database Explorer. I have a stand-alone Windows XP Pro PC. I have created a ChemDatabase with 3 dbo tables in the SQL Server Management Studio of my SQL Server Express and a website of my VWD Express application with an App_Data folder. I am not able to proceed to use Xcopy and user instance to bring the 3 dbo tables of ChemDatabase to my App_Data folder. Please help and give me some detailed procedures/instructions to bring the 3 dbo tables of ChemDatabase (or ChemDatabase itself) from the SQL Server Management Studio Express to the App_Data folder of the website of my VWD Express project? Thanks in advance, Scott Chang
I'm looking to use ActiveX in a DTS to copy a file from on elocation to another. I have the code for this (attached below kindly supplied by a colleague), so that's cool.
dim filesys set filesys=CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
If filesys.FileExists("D:CreditsCredits_MTD.mdb") Then filesys.CopyFile "D:CreditsCredits_MTD.mdb", _ "C:CreditsCredits_200602.mdb" End If
But what I'm looking to do is go one step further. As you can see, it renames the file to yyyymm, but this is hard coded, and I'm looking for a coded solution so I can rename the file with yesterday's date.
I created a web application (ASP.Net with a SQL DB backend) using Visual Studio 2005 Standard Edition and the bundled SQL Server Express.Everything works perfectly on my local machine. Now I need to upload the application and DB to my hosting provider. My hosting provider suggested I backup the db, upload it with FTP, and they would restore it for me on the production server. However, I can find no option to "Backup" a DB in SQL Server Express or in Visual Studio. Am I missing something?Using Visual Studio 2005 Standard Edition and SQL Server Express, how does Microsoft envision us copying our DB's into production? Thanks a lot,Chris
I'm pretty new to this SQL server thingie, and I have this question..
How do I copy a database from SQL Server 2000 to my local SQL Server Express? I have done this between 2000 before, but the manager for the express edition doesn't seem to have the copy task..
I really need to do this, since I have to work with a databse locally on my machine when developing...
I can't register my express server in the enterprise manager on the machine from which I need to copy the databse.. Seems to be a version incompability problem?
I have an application which stores records on a local SQL Express and I need to move the records to a SQL 2000 database. I have the SQL 2000 server linked in the Express Management Console (under Linked Servers). I'm trying to use a stored procedure to accomplish this, but get an error "Invalid object name 'ngtxa4-rsmsz-01.newpurchase.tblRequest'." Express uses a table named tblTRequest in the TempPurchase database, while 2000 uses a table named tblRequest in a NewPurchase database. Here is the stored procedure I'm using: USE [tempPurchase] GO /****** Object: StoredProcedure [dbo].[InsertRequestToMain] Script Date: 07/09/2007 08:54:56 ******/ SET ANSI_NULLS ON GO SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON GO ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[InsertRequestToMain] AS BEGIN INSERT INTO [ngtxa4-rsmsz-01].newpurchase.tblRequest (fldRequestDate, fldRequiredBy, fldUserID, fldWorkAreaID, fldVendorID, fldClassID, fldEstimate, fldMemo, fldStatusID, fldStatusDate, fldSystemID, fldtmpRequestID, fldUpdateCode) SELECT fldRequestDate, fldRequiredBy, fldUserID, fldWorkAreaID, fldVendorID, fldClassID, fldEstimate, fldMemo, fldStatusID, fldStatusDate, fldSystemID, tmpRequestID, UpdateCode FROM tblTRequest WHERE (fldHold = 0) END
Any assistance with this would greatly be helpful. Thank you.
I have Developed ETL Package Which Supplying the CSV File, if I run the package Next time if Same File name is there I need to Rename the that File with Currentdatetime need to move in to Archive Folder. if that File is not exist in that location no need to move the file into Archive file.
How does one export/copy a database using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express? At this time, I have an existing database that I can access and run queries against. However, I cannot connect to it via Visual Wed Developer 2005 Express. At this time, I'm getting the following error message with the existing database:
Login failed for user 'bigide2_gims2'. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server Connection.
Next, I'm running everything locally. If anyone can assist, it would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.
I'm looking to schedule a maintenance plan for my databases which I have done.I'd like this database to be copied to another folder and the name altered to include the file name and the current date time stamp. Is this possible in the scheduled maintenance plan?
I have a database called 'DB1' in SQL Server 2000. I want to create the same database in SQL Server 2005 Express including the original data in tables. How would I do that? I cannot find any option to do this upgrade in SQL Server Management Studio.
Can anyone refer me to good 'recipes' or sources of information on thistopic??I have Visual Studio Tools for Office, which installs SS 2005 Expresslocally to my XP box, and I want to develop in SS 2005, then copy thetables or queries or reports etc. to a SS 2005 Standard server.Thank you, Tom
I am trying to 'load' a copy of a SQLServer 2000 database to SQLServer 2005 Express (on another host). The copy was provided by someone else - it came to me as a MDF file only, no LDF file.
I have tried to Attach the database and it fails with a failure to load the LDF. Is there any way to bypass this issue without the LDF or do I have to have that?
The provider of the database says I can create a new database and just point to the MDF as the data source but I can't seem to find a way to do that? I am using SQL Server Management Studio Express.
I set up DB mirror between a primary (SQL1) and a mirror (SQL2); no witness. I have a problem when I issue command:
alter database DBmirrorTest Set Partner = N'TCP://SQL2.mycom.com:5022'; go
The error message is:
The remote copy of database "DBmirrorTest" has not been rolled forward to a point in time that is encompassed in the local copy of the database log.
I have the steps below prior to the command. (Note that both servers' service accounts use the same domain account. The domain account I login to do db mirror setup is a member of the local admin group.)
1. backup database DBmirrorTest on SQL1
2. backup database log
3. copy db and log backup files to SQL2
4. restore db with norecovery
5. restore log with norecovery
6. create endpoints on both SQL1 and SQL2
CREATE ENDPOINT [Mirroring]
STATE=STARTED
AS TCP (LISTENER_PORT = 5022, LISTENER_IP = ALL)
FOR DATA_MIRRORING (ROLE = PARTNER)
7. enable mirror on mirror server SQL2
:connect SQL2
alter database DBmirrorTest
Set Partner = N'TCP://SQL1.mycom.com:5022';
go
8. Enable mirror on primary server SQL1
:connect SQL1
alter database DBmirrorTest
Set Partner = N'TCP://SQL2.mycom.com:5022';
go
This is where I got the error.
The remote copy of database "DBmirrorTest" has not been rolled forward to a point in time that is encompassed in the local copy
We have set up an user acceptance server with a database that is the same as production. However, I have been told that this database and server may be used for applying fixes rather than user acceptance.
To avoid confusion over which database is on which server, it might be a good idea to rename the database. I am not sure if this can be done un der mssql 6.5?
1)Can I rename a database?
2)If so, how can I do so?
Which system tables would I use to update?
Any information you can furnish will be appreciated. THanks.
if i have a given database (a model) and i want to copy this database in the same database instance. Is it ok to copy the mdf and ldf file and attach the files with a new database name in the same instance.
I didn't know exactly which forum to post this in, so if I need to post it into another one, please let me know. Also, I have absolutely no SQL or DB experience. I am learning as I go.
The Situation: I created a virtual network for my company which included MS CRM, which uses SQL Server 2005. Everything was working fine until today. My company asked me to make a change to the domain name, as we are changing company names. I followed the processes through microsoft's documentation that I found online. The rename went fine. Since then, we can no longer access CRM. When I run the environment checks, it gets hung up on the SQL Server components. It says that it can't confirm the MSSQLSERVER service is running (it is) and it can't connect to the database. As best as I can tell, the database is looking for the old domain name, which doesn't exist. How do I edit or configure the existing database to reflect the new domain name. It's important to do this as we have data in that database that we need to access. Any help in this matter is very much appreciated!!!
Can we have an sql server installation where we dont have a master database. Can the complete data dictionary be stored in another database , or put it other way can master database be renamed.
I have a need to assume that there will always be a master database for any SQL server instance. Want to confirm whether this assumption is true or not.
Trying to find tsql for TRIGGER which will send me email, if someone rename database in test/dev environment. I found it for CREATE and DROP database trigger but could not find for RENAME database.
I want to Replace The Big Log database with A new one ( A database with same structure). But current DB has many connection .

Hello I am a software developer with minimal SQL server administration skills. Currently I am using SQL Server 2000.I need to know if there is a way to copy a particular table from a database, and to copy the table into a different database.Basically on a project I am working on we are using a table named "Customers" from a database named QTR. We need to copy this database table into a different database named "Research". How can this be done? Is if very complicated?
I have SQL Server Express installed on my local development machine and on a remote server. I have identical databases set up on each. How can I copy the data from one to the other? How can I copy the data from one to SQL Server 2005? And can I create an Access database from SQL Server Express? Diane
