Send Mail From SQL Server 2000 Running On Small Business Server 2003

Nov 5, 2007

I'm trying to configure SQL server 2000 (standard edition) to send e-mail on a Small Business Server 2003. There's a great article on how to do this on a SBS 2000 server (KB304967), but it does not apply to SBS 2003. Can anyone point me to a article or white paper on how to configure SQL on a SBS 2003 server to send e-mail. Thanks.

Synchronization Of Business Contacts In Outlook With Small Business Accounting

Jun 10, 2006

Can anyone take me through synchronization of contacts within Business Contacts Outlook into Microsoft Small Business Accounts?

I run a stand alone PC with NO network. When SBA came SQL was also installed. Apparently you can synchronise Contacts within Business Contacts with SBA but both SBA & Outlook should work through the same SQL server.

Has anyone tried this?

Can someone walk me through the process?

Thanks

SQL 2005 Workgroup Edition On Small Business Server 2003 R2

Dec 13, 2006

I have an SBS 2003 server that is running SQL 2000 standard edition which was recently upgraded to Small Business Server 2003 R2.

I have installed SQL 2005 workgroup edition on the SBS 2003 R2 server which acts both as an AD server and Exchange server. I installed SQL 2005 for the purpose of using SQL 2005 for my sharepoint services on the Small Business Server R2.

Now I have SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 workgroup edition installed, but I'm unsure whether I can uninstall the SQL 2000 and how to know whether the sharepoint instance is running in SQL 2005 or SQL 2000?

Additionally, I have some MSDE's running for WSUS and Server Reporting which are installed by the Small Business Server installation.

Which tools should I use to become familiar with identifying the databases and which version of the database engine is used for which database regardless of whether it is a SQL instance or a MSDE instance.

How can I identify which SQL versions are not in use and whether I can uninstall if not needed.

Thanks!!

Microsoft##EESS And MSDE SQL 2000 On Windows 2003 Small Business Server

Jan 25, 2007

Currently a server running 2003 small business operating system has MSDE 2000 and Microsoft##SSEE.

A memory problem exists with SQL consuming over 50% of RAM. Total RAM is 4GB.

There is a SQL 2000 patch for this type of problem. However, it calls for SQL to be upgraded to SP4.

Problem:
Can this MSDE 2000 be upgraded with SP4 and have memory patch applied with Microsoft##SSEE also on this box?

Please let me know. Thank you.

Sql 2005 Express Stalling / Running Very Slow

Mar 8, 2007

Sql 2005 Express with XPP SP2 and the latest MS updates sometimes runs very slow.

A SELECT which should take a fraction of a second can take several 10s of seconds.

I have checked autoclose is OFF for database using

use master
go
exec sp_dboption 'your_db_name','autoclose'

And it is definitely showing as OFF

I've looked at the Activity Monitor and when stalled it shows one or two processes for my database which are sleeping with 1 or 2 open transactions. When I look at their details they are simple select statements.

Often when my computer should be idle SqlServer.exe can be consuming 20 - 30% of cpu

I've noticed that I have TWO sqlservr.exe showing in my Task Manager, Processes display

One sqlservr.exe is 27K using about 17% even tho computer is idle has username NETWORK SERVICE

Other sqlservr.exe is 343K using 0% has user name SYSTEM

I don't know why.

Small Business Application: Best RAD Tool

Very Small Table Incredibly Slow

Jul 23, 2005

Hello.I am administering a SQL Server (Enterprise Edition on Windows 2003)from some month and can't understand what is going on in the latestweek (when the db grow a lot). The DB is around 250G, and has one table with 1 billion rows. It isperforming in a decent way, but can't understand why a particolar tablehas strong performance problem.I have a stored procedure that read table from table A and insert them, after processing in table B, and then move them in other table (similarto a Star Schema) for reporting.Table B is, for how the SP is written, not more than 3000 lines. TableB is very simple, has 3 rows, and no index. What is very strange is that performance of table B is really slow. IfI do a select count (*) from table_b it takes between 30s & 2minutes toreturn it has 0 lines. When the stored procedure insert 1000 lines, ittakes 20/30 seconds and it takes 20/30 seconds to delete them.To me it doesn't look like a lock problem, because it is slow also whenthe only procedure that access that table are stopped. I did an updatestatistics with fullscan on this table with no improvement. The DB is on a Storage Area Network that should perform decently. TheLUN I use is configured to use a piece of 32 disk that are used also byother application. I don't have performance data of the SAN. Themachine is an HP DL580 with 4 CPU (hiperthreading disabled), 8G of RAM,AWE and PAE and 5G reserved for SQL Server.I don't know what to do to solve this situation. Could it be a"corruption problem" that slow this table so much? is it possible thefact the db grow a lot in the last week created problem also to thissmall and simple table?Do you have any idea or hint on how to manage this situation, orpointer to documentation that can help in analizing this situation? For the ones that arrived till here, thank you for your time andpatience reading my bad english...Best Regards,MamoPSI can't rewrite the stored procedure, because it is part of a closedsource product.

Sql Server Running Slow

Mar 2, 2004

Hi,

Our main production server has started running slow, it is a dual zeon thingy with plenty of ram so hardware is not an issue.

Basically a service connects to the database and executes a few stored procs, the only way I can get the system up to speed again is to recompile one of the SPs but that is only a temporary fix.

Anyone had a similar thing?

Can anyone give me help on performance tuning in SQL server 2000.

Thanks

SQL Server Running Slow On A High End System

Mar 7, 2004

I have about a 447 MB SQL server 2000 database on a desktop PC acting as a QA server. The hardware specs of the QA box are as follows:

CPU: P4 2.4 GHz
Memory: 1GB
Drives: 80 GB IDE

I recently purchased a Dell PowerEdge 2650 server to act as the staging box. The staging box has

CPU: P4 2.4 GHz
Memory: 2GB
Drives: 40GB SCSI, mirrored

I made a backup of the database on the QA box, and restored it on the staging box. Yet when I run something as simple as a select query (select * from <table>), the less powerful QA box is faster.

I figured maybe the statistics are different on the staging box. I ran dbcc showcontig to make sure the statistics were identical. Also ran RedGate's SQL compare and data compare to make sure everything was identical.

I figured maybe the query optimizer needs to be tweaked. I recreated the indexes and updated statistics on the staging box. The queries actually got slower as a result.

I thought maybe SCSI drives are slower. Tried breaking the mirror on the staging box. No luck. Put the mirror back in place, ran a test where I copied a large folder from one directory to another on the staging box. Repeated the same test with the same data on the QA box. The staging box was more than twice as fast than the QA box.

It doesnt appear to be a problem with the query, adjusting memory in SQL server has not effect, both boxes are using SQL server 2000 SP3, why is the bigger machine running queries hundreds of milliseconds slower than the smaller machine? Any help will be appreciated!

SQL Server Express With Windows Vista Business?

Sep 6, 2007

Hi y'all,
I just know that SQL Server Express Edition SP2 is being released by Microsoft recently, and from previous informations I gathered; it seemed that SQL Server 2005 Express Edition is not compatible with Windows Vista (any editions).
With the release of SP2, does this mean SQL Server 2005 Express Edition is now compatible with Windows Vista?
If so, do I have to install .NET Framework v2.0 first in my Windows Vista Business edition? BecauseI know that Vista Business edition already has .NET Framework v3.0 in it.
Thanks for your help! Appreciate it...

SP: Execute Long-running Queries In Small Chunks

May 7, 2002

Here's a little SP to break up those long-running, massively-locking, bring-app-to-a-halt queries. By default it does 500 rows at a time and allows for a maximum SQL query size of 4000 characters; it should be trivial to adjust those.

Cheers

Has anyone seen anything like this before? I really need to get this up and running to continue with the project.

Thanks for any thoughts.

SQL SERVER 2005 EXPRESS / Vista - Business Edition Issue

Jan 23, 2008

Good day all, I wanted to get some feedback on what I think may be an issue between SQL Server 2005 Express and Vista. Specifically I use Vista Business edition and I was trying to execute the same bit of code on two different machines with the same exact database. The ONLY difference was Vista. See code below...what I doing in XP Professional SP2 was inserting an image into a table. This worked well on XP but the same code failed to actually insert the image. A row was created in 'myTable' but not binary data from the image insert. Can someone please advise or help me - it goes without saying that I an quite frustrated. ;-)

CREATE TABLE myTable(FileName nvarchar(60),
FileType nvarchar(60), Document varbinary(max))
GO
INSERT INTO myTable(FileName, FileType, Document)
SELECT 'titleist-dtsolo.jpg' AS FileName,
'.jpg' AS FileType,
* FROM OPENROWSET(BULK N'C:UsersBrian EvansDesktopgolfPremiumsgolfPremiumsProjectWebImages itleist-dtsolo.jpg', SINGLE_BLOB) AS Document
GO

Selecting from the results yields a row with no image data, and I did verify the path and image before and after running this sample.

Sql Server Express Advanced-can't Get Business Intelligence Or Reporting Services

Mar 24, 2007

I'm on Windows XP and recently downloaded Sql Server Express Advanced edition from http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/download/

I also downloaded the Toolkit but it won't install--says the services are already installed. However, I can't find the Business Intelligence link and don't see any Reporting buttons or menu items in Sql Server Express. I'm trying to learn T-SQL and Reporting Services but am frustrated. I've uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled and still nothing. I'm even listening to the MS videos on SQL Server Express--Reporting Services but what they tell to download and install is what I've done--but no luck. Help!!!

Installing SQL Server 2005 Express On Windows Vista Business

Sep 12, 2007

Hello,

Firstly, can someone confirm that this can be done. Because I am starting to wonder.

I have downloaded the SQL Server 2005 Express install, and attempted to install. Everything goes well. Computer scan indicates that everything is in place, but then when it goes to install the components it states that the following components failed:

- SQL Native Client
- SQL Server Database Services
- Reporting Services
- Workstation Components, Books Online

(Successful items were SQL Setup Support Files, SQL VSS Writer, OWC11, SQL Server Backward-Compatibility Files, SQL Server Management Studio Express).

For those Items that failed, I just get a message stating "Setup failed. Refer to Setup Log'. The setup log tells me little to nothing about why these components failed.

I am also getting the following message part way through install "An installation package for the product Microsoft SQL Server Native Client cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package 'sqlncli.mis'". Does anyone know what this means? I downloaded the install from microsoft.com just a few days ago, so if this isn't "valid", then where do I get a valid one.

I'm totally stuck. Have spent almost a day trawling documentation etc. to find why these have not installed, but cannot find any indication of why they wont install.. everything that needs to be in place is. Hoping someone has had similar issues and can help.

Many Thanks in Advance.

Setting Admin Rights To Report Manager, SQL Server Express 2005 On Vista Business

Mar 7, 2007

Hi all,

I'm a newbie to Reporting Services so please forgive my ignorance...

I've recently installed SQL Server Express 2005 with Reporting Services on my Vista Business Notebook (with no network connections) and have installed VS C# Express as well as the Business Intelligence Studio to create reports.

My C# application can connect to SQL Server fine, however, the reports I created with Business Studio refuses to deploy to the server due to the following reason:

"The permissions granted to user 'localhostJenny' are insufficient for
performing this operation".

I find this odd as I've been able to deploy reports on my other Windows XP machine (with SQL Server Express) no probs at all. Additionally, I cannot see the 'Site settings' link within Report Manager (Web) that I'd normally get with an admin account (i.e. on my Win. XP machine). Various sources indicate that my account has insufficient access rights to view this.

Having browsed through seemingly endless blogs and forums, I suspect that my local account has not been configured to access the Report Manager web client to publish, manage and administer the site.

I have tried the surface area tool for SQL Server, but I suspect that this is relevant only to SQL Server DB access and management. Adding an administrator here does nothing.

The question is, how can I grant access to myself (local account) to allow me to publish reports via business studio, and at the same time - administer Report Manager Site Settings - on my vista notebook??

I would be extremely grateful for any help on this matter - I've tried ceaseless reinstallations, but to no avail!

Many thanks in advance,

Jenny

Running Custom Business Logic During Synchronization

Oct 30, 2006

I have a merge replication topology that allows some subscribers (clients) to retreive a number for certain columns (ie invoice number, order number, etc).

I have implemented a custom business logic handler to check for inserts from the subscriber and before updating the server, I call a stored proc on the server to generate a new number. I update the data set and call ActionOnDataChange.AcceptCustomData. This works great for the publication db but I am trying to get this new number back into the subscription db. I am using web synchronization so I really don't have a connection back to the subscriber database.

Any Ideas? I was thinking about keeping track of the updates myself and build a sql string and somehow get that back to the subscriber to run updates for those columns... I am wondering if I am pushing the limits of the business logic handler? Was it designed to do this? Of course the easy answer is to modify my client application but I am trying to avoid that at this point.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
