Run the SSIS import/export wizard.
(xls -> sql table)
Select the tasks created.
Copy.
Here is the error that occurs.
p.s. Does anyone have any needles I can borrow? I think sticking them in my eyes would be nicer than working with SSIS.

The problem is this: In SQL 2000 DTS there was an option for "Copy
Objects and Data Between SQL Servers". However, this option has been
removed in SQL 2005 SSIS. Apparently the only way to do this in SQL
2005 is to create a .DTSX package in SQL Server Business Intelligence
Developement Studio or VS 2005. You do this by creating a new
Integration Service Project and using the Transfer SQL Objects Task.
Within the properties of this task you can select any of the options
that were available in the SQL 2000 DTS export wizard. I have set up a
test package that will copy a stored procedure from one db to another
but I am unable to get it to work. It runs fine but the result is that
the SP is not copied.
I am new to Visual Studio and I think I probably just need help in
know ing how to run a package in SQL Server Management Studio. I was
able to import the package into SSIS in the Management Studio and run
it without errors not with the expected result (the copy of an SP from
one db to another). I'm sure there are people besides me who would like
to have the ability to easily perform ad hoc copies of objects between
SQL servers. If anyone has any experience with using a SSIS package to
do this please help. Thanks!

Hi,
i have a ssis package that copies a database using online method of the database transfer task. I realize that this task does not copy my keys and indexes, therefore i went and used the SQL Transfer Object Task which would transfer my keys and indexes, but does not copy the default value of a column, is there something i need to change/turn on for this to work ?
Thanks,
Christopher

managedOleInstance2.AcquireConnections(null);
managedOleInstance2.ReinitializeMetaData();
managedOleInstance2.ReleaseConnections();
}
And its giving a error.can anyone say why? or can anyone change this?
The package contains two objects with the duplicate name of "component "SQL Server Destination" (50)" and "component "SQL Server Destination" (22)".

Hi experts.
Challenge: Datapumping. To copy daily production data from N x 100 SQL 2k servers to one central SQL2k5 server.
Sometimes copying task might demand transferring schema objects like temp tables and procedures from sql2005 to sql2000.
Since system organisation is different, what would be the best approach ?
Thanks

We are in the process of trying to automate our production releases (what a concept ;-)
The database is SQL server 2005
All objects are being stored in VSS
Using Nant and Cruise Control for the actual migrations.
I have two directories - Create (for a brandnew database) and Change (db object changes)
In my 'Change' script, I do the following -
1 - Take backup of database
2 - Migrate objects from 'change' directory to production
3 - Script out all objects of database and save in the 'Create' directory
For the #3, I was hoping I could create an SSIS package that would
script out all database objects and save them on the VSS server.
I'm new to SSIS and want to verify it's something that can be done before I start down that path.
If anyone has any examples or references, it would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Can a SSIS server, i.e. staging server be used to create packages that update SQL Server 2000 Analysis services objects on another server running SQL server 2000 OLAP?
It appears that the OLAP connection manager ion SSIS supports only connections (and thus updates) to 2005 OLAP objects. I work for a company that has a huge investment in a 3rd party DW that uses Analysis Services 2000. the DW tool vendor will not support an upgrade to SSAS 2005. We wish to extend the DW from other data sources. My thought was to use a staging server with SSIS, used solely as the ETL tool for all new development (thus no more DTS development), and to update the sql server 2000 operational data store on another box.
I can find no documentation on how to process sql server 2000 analysis services objects from within an SSIS package. Any ideas?

I am working on a project that is creating a new application, my area of the project being the migration of data from the old application database, transforming it, and populating the new database.
The transformations to the old data are done in a staging database.
At the end of the process, the staging database ends up with a lot of new applications tables, populated with the migrated legacy data.
We need to move these tables from the staging database to (initially) our test databases, but ultimately what will be the live database.
We have tried using the "Transfer SQL Server Objects Task" in SSIS, but have ran into a problem that a lot of the database tables have default values for columns.
These default values are not brought over.
Example. Tables contain a "GUID" field, which has a default of value of newid()
Right clicking and the table generating the CREATE script generates
[GUID] [uniqueidentifier] ROWGUIDCOL NOT NULL CONSTRAINT [DF_tbCRM_Client_GUID] DEFAULT (newid()),
However, the Transfer objects task does not create this default of newid()
Examining the SQL generated by the Import / Export Wizard when investigating this shows that the wizard generates this column as
[GUID] uniqueidentifier NOT NULL
and the column default value is lost.
Is there something i should be setting somewhere to force SSIS to bring these column definitions over correctly?

I recently upgraded to on 2012 SP1 CU5 and have found the SSDT gui for SSIS to be almost unusable. I can't drag or resize items. Any time i try they either automagically shrink to the tiniest possible size, shoot off to some extreme or just shake uncontrollably I didn't have these problems on previous versions (dont remember what It was).
Is there a fix for this?

passing serialised objects to a stored procedure for the purpose of data inserts. I see this as being a way to handle multiple row inserts efficiently.
However, in my limited use of XML data I am not so sure how to link the data when I have a dependency on another "object" within the serialised XML.
Below is a code snippet showing what I have so far.
The first insert statement works fine - but how to retrieve the identifier created by the DB - I want to use an SQL statement that finds the record in the table based on the XML representation (of the PluginInfo), allowing me to insert the ConfigurationInfo with the correct reference to the PluginInfo
DECLARE @Config NVARCHAR(MAX)
DECLARE @Handle AS INT
DECLARE @TransactionCount AS INT
SELECT @Config = '
<ConfigurationDirectory >
<ConfigurationInfo groupKey="Notifications" sectionKey="App.Customization.PluginInfo"
[code]....

I am using the "Transfer SQL Server Objects Task" to copy some tables from database A to database B including data.
The tables, primary key constraints, Foreign key, data and all transfers nicely except for "DEFAULT CONSTRAINTS" on the tables.
I have failed to find any option in the "Transfer SQL Server Objects Task" task to explicitly say "copy default constraints". So I guess logically it should happen automatically but it doesn't. I hope it is not a bug :-)
Any option anyone knows will help.
Thanks.

In short, does the €œTransfer SQL Server Objects Task€? support distributed transactions?
In trying to use a €œTransfer SQL Server Objects Task€? in a container using a transaction on the container. The task is set to support the transaction. It is setup to copy table data from several tables from a non-domain server (sql server 2000) to a domain-based server (sql server 2005). I get an error stating, €œThis task can not participate in a transaction€?.
I am wondering if it means exactly what it says €“ this task in SSIS can€™t participate at all. Or does it mean that it won€™t in this scenario for some reason. I attempted a simple copy of data from mssql 2005 to mssql 2005 (same server) and the task still failed). MSDTC appears to be running properly on my machine and such (I can do a simple distributed transaction across linked server to the 2000 server in Query Analyzer (QA)). Also, MSDTC appears to be working on both servers with distributed transaction query tests in QA.
Here€™s the error info€¦
SSIS package "Development BusinessContacts and Products Migration.dtsx" starting.

Hi everyone,
Primary platform is Framework 2.0 under 32-bit
Production platform will be Framework 2.0 under 64-bit.
I'm concerned about what object should I use in order to launch DTS 2000/7.0 from our .Net service.
Currently it tested fine from a 32-bit environment (sql server 2005 as backend).
Reference: "Microsoft DTSPackage Object Library"
Physical file: dtspkg.dll
My wonder, is there any limitation when it's gonna to work on 64-bit?
Generally speaking, any limitation/issue/drawback for COM objects under 64 bit??
In my project properties appears Any CPU, x86, x64. I've got now Any CPU.
Thanks for your advices,

I know it's "best practice" to dispose ado.net objects, but does it make a big difference if just the connection is closed? In other words, is the code below good enough or should the DataAdapter & Command be explicitly closed?using (SqlConneciton cn = new SqlConnection(connstr)){ SqlDataAdapter da = new SqlDataAdapter(sql,cn);DataSet ds = new DataSet();da.Fill(ds); SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(someOtherSql,cn);cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); }

Hi,
I am a Database called "Cache" user and in it and when creating a new table I can create a column of type Object.
So basically, I can create an object eg. Address that have the following items StreetNo, StreetName, PCode somewhere in my database; then create a table called eg. Employees that have a column called EmployeeAddress of type Address (as my Address Object). Can this be done in SQL Server!?
Thanks.

I am currently writing a VB app based around a SQLserver2000 database. I have used stored procedures wherever possible to select/update/delete data. I am planning to distribute this app and wonder whether there are any tricks out there for encrypting/setting security so that even the SA account would be unable to read my stored procedures, but obviously be able to execute them?
There are two scenarios - one is where I want to let someone borrow a laptop just for a few days for a demo. Presumably I just give them an unprivileged user account without interactive logon possibilities, by which I mean Enterprise Manager and the other SQLserver Client tools [can I do this?] and control all access from the app.
The other scenario is when the app is purchased and I no longer have control of the SQL Server nor the SA account.
Any pointers would certainly be very useful indeed. Thanks.

SQL server 6.5 stopped responding. The last error messages in the SQL Server Error Log / NT Event log suggested that I increase the Open Objects / Open Databases values. I rebooted the server, increase the configuration values, and rebooted the server again for the new configuration to take affect. I suspect that the front-end application does not release the objects properly when it should; therefore increasing Open Objects / Databases configuration values will only be a temporary fix until they reach the new maximum in some time. However to prove that I need to be able to determine how many open objects / databases are on the server at a point of time. Is there a procedure or a method to determine how many open objects / dtabases are on server?
Any comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thank you
