Parameter Driven Subscription - Error

Apr 22, 2008

I have set up a parameter driven subscription and am having strange results. This subscription is being set up as Web-archive, including the report and link.

At first when setting up the report, I didn't have a default value set in the report, but would choose it in the subscription and would see an error saying the parameter value provided is not valid. After seeing the error I would edit the subscription and see the parameter value was blank. This would happen if the subscription was set to start after at least a few hours. This didn't matter if I chose the subscription schedule or using a shared schedule.

When I set up a subscription the same way, but then had it delivered within the next few minutes, the report would work fine, using the given parameter.

Since one of reports is being sent to a manager, I put in a default parameter value and set up a few subscriptions. I was hoping at least if the subscription "didn't remember" the parameter value, the default would be used and delivered. I was right, the report was delivered using only the default... but will only be delivered using the default.

There have been quite a few people posting similar questions, but none of them are answered.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Eric

Ps - here is some of the log file relating to one of the failed subscriptions:

Help Needed - Parameter Driven Extract

Dec 13, 2006

Hi All,

I am designing a data migration tool using SSIS. As part of it, within a package I need to get a list of of customers from a SQL Server database table and extract the data for those customers from a seperate Sybase database. How do I make my SQL command to extract the data parameter driven? If I store the list of customer ID's in a package variable can I access it in the SQL command? I am using an ODBC connection for Sybase.

Any help would be greatly apreciated.

Data-driven Subscription - Invalid Parameter?

Aug 23, 2007

Hi,

I've set up a data-driven subscription on a report but it's not sending and the error log says it's because:

Default value or value provided for the report parameter 'CSRFaxID' is not a valid value.

For the particular dataset record causing the error I'm passing the value Null to the report parameter. The report parameter CSRFaxID is set up with "Allow Null" and with a default value of Null. I can run the report in my browser with CSRFaxID set to null, but the scheduled subscription is not able to produce the report with the same parameter value. Does anyone have any idea what the problem is and how I can fix it?

Greg McNamara

Data-driven Subscription: Put Parameter In The Filename Text

Feb 1, 2007

Hi all,

I've developed a data driven subscription report. I have a paramete (named "Data") that is a result of my query to the current date. It is working fine.

Now I would like to make one change: In the step4 of the creation of the data-driven report we have the option to give a name to the filename.The name that I gave was TestFile. In this option i'm also able to select the parameter instead of giving the name to the filename. Can I make something like TestFile_ & @Data? Wich would result in TestFile_01-02-2007? Or the only way is to make, in the query of the paramenter another field with this result?

Thanks in advance.

Marco.

Passing Null Value Parameter To A Data-driven Subscription

Jun 13, 2007

I have a data-driven subscription (DDS) stored procedure that gets called when a subscription fires and returns parameters to a report. One of the parameter values I want to return is NULL, which also happens to be the default value of the corresponding report parameter.

When I set the report parameter to use the default value (NULL) when setting up the subscription in Report Manager, the subscription works fine. When I try to pass the NULL value from the DDS proc to the report, the subscription fails.

I do not know what the error logs say. I've rarely looked at them and what I have seen seems a bit cryptic. I've narrowed down through trial-and-error that passing the NULL value is the issue.

Has anyone else experienced this issue and do you have a resolution?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

SQL 2012 :: Data Driven Report Looping Through Parameter For Multiple Reports

Sep 15, 2015

I'm trying to create a report that will be data-driven and produce multiple reports based on a parameter. For example, 5 reports go out today based on invoice numbers from yesterday. Each invoice can have multiple trasnsaction lines and each line contains the invoice number. What I have so far is only taking the first invoice number (let's say it has 10 transactions) and sending me the same report 10 times and stopping.

I get nothing for the remaining 4 invoices/reports. Here is what I have. To me this should enter the distinct invoice no's from yesterday into #temp, while a invoice no exiists begin query with one invoice selected from #temp then delete that invoice no and select another one and repeat till no more invoice no's. But it's only going through the one invoice no.

select distinct InvoiceNo
into #temp
from table
where Invoicedate between getdate()-1 and getdate()
declare @InvoiceNo VARCHAR(25)

SSRS -- Data Driven Subscription And Pivoting For Dynamic Parameter Mapping

Feb 12, 2007

Hi,

For the Data Driven Subscription in SSRS we are using the following stored procedure

In Step 3 - Create a data-driven subscription

create procedure spRSGetReportSettings

(

@ReportID as integer

) as

begin

set nocount on

declare @t as table(y int not null primary key)

declare

@cols as nvarchar(max),

@y as int,

@sql as nvarchar(max)

set @cols=stuff(

(select N',' + quotename(y) as [text()]

from (select ParameterName as y from Reportsettings where reportid=1) as Y

order by y

For XML Path('')),1,1,N'');

set @sql=N'select * from

(select reportid,parametername, parametervalue from ReportSettings where reportid= ' + Cast(@ReportID as varchar(5)) +' ) as D

pivot(min(parametervalue) for parametername in(' + @cols +N')) as p'

exec sp_executesql @sql

end

Basically the idea is to maintain a single report parameter setting table for multiple reports.

Structure of the table is as given below

ReportID, ParameterName, ParameterValue.

Using Pivot we can generate the ParameterName/ParameterValue combinations for each report. This stored procedure is working fine in query editors(Management Studio)

But, in SSRS it is giving any results.

In Step 4 - Create a data-driven subscription,

Get the value from the database drop down, I am not getting any database columns.

Please help.

DTS Data Driven Query Task

Aug 3, 2000

I'm trying to perform a simple DTS tassk and am having no luck. All I'm trying to do is to run a task that will delete rows from an Access table. I presume I have to create a Data Driven Query in order to do this, but I can't seem to get the formula just right.
Can someone shed some light on the subject, please? BOL says little to nothing about how to set up a simple task. Microsoft.com is also pretty lsackluster with regards on what to do.
Again, thanks for any help.

DTS- Data Driven Query Task

Mar 27, 2004

I use a data driven query task to perform row updates along with appending row data to a text file. In the source I use 'select top 1000 field1, ..., fieldn from table'. The package hangs when executing the data driven task. If I reduce the return count to 'select top 100...' the package execute with no problems. I can do that 10 times, with no problems. But anything more then 100 will hang the package at that task. Please help!

How To Change Query In Data-driven Subscription

Nov 13, 2007

Hi All,

I have some problems when changing and running report subscription in the existing data-driven Email subscription using console app.

arg[0] is the ReportID
and arg[1] is the permissionkey

I passed these parameters in command_line when I call the executable. (e.g RunSubscription.exe 1 2)

After I run my application, the query changed successfully,
however, I didn't get the email from the subscription So I checked the subscription status,
Error: Cannot create a connection to data source ''.

If I remove the get & set subscription property codes, then application runs fine but then I can't change the query on the fly. Please help!!! I will be very appreciate if someone can give me some helps or suggestion.

Query Performance Hard Coded Value Versus Table Driven

I want to be able to return the rows from a table that have been updated since a specific time. My query returns results in less than 1 minute if I hard code the reference timestamp, but it keeps spinning if I load the reference timestamp in a table. select * from A where ReceiptTS > '2014-09-30 00:00:00.000'

Need To Add A Parameter To Query

<SelectParameters>
<asp:QueryStringParameter Name="articlecatid" QueryStringField="catid" Type="Int32" />
what goes here?

</SelectParameters>
</asp:ObjectDataSource>
I'm using this to populate some templates I'm using.
I need to add a parameter for the query:
SELECT     tblArticle.ArticleCatID, tblArticle.ArticleID, tblArticle.ArticleText, tblArticle.ArticleTitle, tblArticle.Author, tblArticle.ShortDesc, tblArticle.WebSiteID,                       tblWebSite.SiteURL, tblWebSite.PageRankFROM         tblArticle INNER JOIN                      tblWebSite ON tblArticle.WebSiteID = tblWebSite.WebSiteIDWHERE     (tblArticle.ArticleCatID = @articlecatid) and tblArticle.Active=@active
This is from a tableadapter. How to I get the True value passed into this thing?  When an article is initially saved, the active value is set to false until the article is reviewed. Once everything is ok, then the status is set to actve.  So, although everything is sitting there in the table for the article, the directory will not pull it up with other search results already approved.

Use Results From First Query As Parameter In Second

May 13, 2007

Hello,
I want to select all the customerIDs where an email address exists. Easy: select customerid from customers where emailaddress = @emailaddress
Now I want to use the resulted customerIDs from the above query as a parameter to select all the email addresses with emailstatus equal to 3.
How do I create this type of while statement in a stored procedure? I prefer to not create a temporary table.
My idea was to do it like this:
select emailaddress from emailaddresseswhere emailstatus = 3 and customerid = (select customerid from customers where emailaddress = @emailaddress)
This doesn't seems to work. I get the error:
Subquery returned more than 1 value. This is not permitted when the subquery follows =, !=, <, <= , >, >= or when the subquery is used as an expression.
thanks

Query Table With Same Parameter

Mar 4, 2008

Im struggling with this, I think its probably quite simple. I have a table that looks like this:

RecordId
PictureId
KeywordId

111
212
313
421
522
623
725
817
932
1044

I want to be able to run a query for a distinct listing of PictureIds that have KeywordId=1 and Keyword=2. When trying a simple query like:select PictureId from PicturesKeywords where (keywordid=1 and keywordid=2) group by PictureId
It obviously returns nothing. What am I doing wrong?

Pass Through Query With Parameter???

Dec 13, 2000

I have the following function that is run when a person
enters a value, "Cell", in an access form. I am trying to
execute the pass through query in SQL Server but i keep
getting the following message:

"The microsoft jet database engine cannot find the input
table or query 'CellDefs'. Make sure it exists and its name
is spelt correctly."

There is nothing wrong with the table name.
I cant understand what the problem is ?????

Can anyone tell me how to execute a query that passes
a parameter from access to Sql server.

Thanks,
Ruaidhri

Public Function GetData(Cell As String)
Dim dbsCurrent As Database
Dim qd1 As QueryDef
Dim SQL As String
Dim rs As Recordset
Dim qdf As QueryDef
Set dbsCurrent = CurrentDb

Set qd1 = dbsCurrent.CreateQueryDef("")
With qd1
.Connect = "ODBC;DSN=MISChief;SERVER=Janeway;UID=sa;PWD=;DATA BASE=MIS"
SQL = ""
SQL = SQL + "INSERT INTO TableX SELECT A.Name AS CellCode, C.FinderNumber"
SQL = SQL + "FROM (CellDefs AS A INNER JOIN Calls AS B ON "
SQL = SQL + "A.CellDef_id = B.CellDef_id) INNER JOIN Finders AS C ON "
SQL = SQL + "B.Finders_id = C.Finders_id "
SQL = SQL + "WHERE A.Name LIKE '" & Cell & "' "
SQL = SQL + "ORDER BY C.FinderNumber"

SQL Parameter Query && Wildcard

Sep 22, 2006

I just migrated a stand alone MSAccess2003 .mdb to an .adp Access Data Project. In the former .mdb I had a parameter query to search for a portion of a 17 character part number, primarily the 2 grouping of 4 digits as in (00-0000-XXXX-0-00). In Access the query was written as

LIKE “*”&[Enter a portion of the part number]&”*”

Then we ported to a web based portal using MSAccess’s DAP (data access pages) and I was told due to ADO vs DAO the query had to be rewritten using the % symbol as in

LIKE “%”&[Enter a portion of the part number]&”%”

So far so good. However with the migration to a SQL Server and ANSI-92 compatible wildcard characters this has changed. The new query looks like this

LIKE @Enter_a_portion_of_the_part_number +n’%’

The problem I am having is the prompt for data entry works but the wildcard will only return matching values from the first digit place holder. Some of the books I have read said to use the Under Score character to move the search criteria to the section I want to search which would be starting with the 9th character (00-0000-XXXX-0-00) as in

LIKE @Enter_a_portion_of_the_part_number +n’________%

However the Under Score only works with Alpha Characters and not Numeric.

So how do I write a SQL Server Query to perform like it did in Access?

DTS Package - Need Help W/ Parameter Query

Oct 5, 2005

I am trying to get a DTS package to work w/ an ActiveX box to prompt user for a Date. I am pulling data out of a table into an Excel spreadsheet. The date keyed by user gets passed into parameter ? in query. I have assigned a global variable to package also. The DTS package executes fine but no row appear in the Excel spreadsheet. I'm guessing that the date keyed in input box does not match date from database for some reason. I have tried multiple ways of inputing date in input box and have tried different case/convert statements in query. I know the dates are there because I can hard code in the date as '2005-10-03' and it works. Just can't get it work by feeding in user input into where clause. Does anyone know what I'm missing.

I have a much more complex query but here's the simple one I'm using just to try to get it to work.

select consumerid,
convert(char(10),servicedatefrom, 101) 'Date of Service',
convert(char(10),updatedate, 101) 'Update Date'
from tbl_cs_sv_service
where convert(char(10),updatedate, 101) = ?

Here's the ActiveX script to prompt user for date input

'**********************************************************************
' Visual Basic ActiveX Script
'************************************************************************
Function Main()

dim tamdate
tamdate = inputbox ("Enter Date")
msgbox ("You entered: " & tamdate)

Main = DTSStepScriptResult_ExecuteTask

End Function

Any advice would be wonderful as I'm pulling my hair out at this point.

Thanks much......wisa64
