SQL Query Blank Space

Oct 11, 2000

Hi:
I did the following query on SQL Server A and got the following result.
Input: select replace('10/10/00', '/', '')
Result: 101000
(1 row(s) affected)
However, I did the same query on SQL B and got a different result.
Input: select replace('10/10/00', '/', '')
Output: 10 10 00
(1 row(s) affected)

Both Servers are SQL 7.0 with SP2. I checked the setting, it seems to be identical. Does anyone know what could be the problem or have any hint what I need to check?
I beleieve the correct result should be the first result.

Thanks for any help.

Blank Space

Is this a known issue - blank spaces caused by KeepTogether property being implicity set for Lists/Subreports/Rectangles in Reporting Services? If so, will there be a fix soon?

Blank Space In The Report

Dec 26, 2007

We are using SSRS 2005.We designed one report. This report contains Table and chart controls .
When Table is hidden, chart only is visible, this chart is going to show only on last page.
There is a white space in top of the chart while hiding the table control.

Consider for an Example Report one tables and one chart .
We want to show only chart,So we made Table's visible property is false.
Total Number of pages is five and table has only four pages and chart has only one page that is in last page.
Now the report showing Four pages are empty with header and footer and last page have a chart with header and footer.

We tried putting the whole table inside a list and gave the visibility property,
but the table inside a list shows the same empty pages

Any suggestions how to avoid the empty pages?

Thanks
Shoba

What Is This Box Type Character For A Blank Space In SQL Server?

Mar 8, 2007

Hi,
I am using DTS for importing a table from FileMaker Pro (a database application) to SQL Server 2000. The problem is that everything gets imported correctly but in some values, it shows a box type character for a blank space. It does not happen for all the blank spaces. Because of this, that value is cannot be checked in the WHERE clause until I use a LIKE and % for that blank space.
I copied the value and pasted in Notepad, it only shows a blank space. What is this character?
Can someone help...
Thanks,
bullpit

Osql - Blank Space Beginning Of Line

Feb 2, 2007

Hi,
I'm running the osql below from a batch file:

%SQLPath%osql -U%DBUser% -P%DBPswd% -S%SQLServer% -d%Gatewaydb% -w256 -b -n; -c -h-1 -iBatchScriptsSQL_Get_Create_Batch1.sql -oZ:mboxmmis835increate_835_1.bat

My output file comes out fine with one exception, there is a blank space at the beginning of each line. Is there a way to remove this ? One suggestion I have seen is to do this with BCP instaed of osql but I don't know if BCP can "run" my "SQL_Get_Create_Batch1.sql" file above. The ".sql" creates a temporary table and then does a select.

Thanks,
J

Jul 23, 2005

Some of the fields in arecord may have an empty string. When I bcp out to the file and examine it, the fields that have anempty string in the database now show up in the file as having oneblank character. Why is bcp doing this? I don't want the blank character in my output. Thanks,Eric

Removing Blank Space Caused By Wide Table

Apr 5, 2007

Hi all,

Report:

-For instance 2 small tables (eg. width 10cm = 3 inch?)

-And one wide table (eg. width 30cm = 10 inch?)

All separated by "insert pagebreak after table".

Problem:

When rendered, the pages with the small tables on have a lot of white blank space at the right of the table. This is probably caused by the big table on page 3.

This report is distributed by email in Excell format. So on sheet 1 and 2 there are a lot of white cells on the right of the tables. When trying to print, they just want to use the "landscape" option and the "fit to page" option. Because of the empty white cells, the fit to page option reduces the first 2 tables to a very small table which covers only 50 % of the page width. The other 50 % is reserved for the empty cells.

Off course, I know that deleting the empty cells offers a solutions, but it would be a lot more handier if there were no empty cells in the first place.

Anybody with a solution?

Issue Of Blank Emails When Checking For Free Space On Disk Of Servers

Sep 22, 2006

Hello

I have got a script which checks the percentage of free space on the drivers of the servers and mails the DBA when it falls below a certain percentage , which can be set according to our requirements.

But I am getting blank emails even when , there is no issue of low free space.

Please help me out.

The code , 1st part of it is:

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Blank Space In Integer Data Type Column View

Apr 4, 2014

I am dealing with what I believe is Oracle that is the source of a SQL View.

I am seeing a data type of Integer in the View, but I am not able to see what makes up that View. When I query the View, I can see that an Integer data type column is storing a blank space. I use ISNUMERIC(ColumnName) = 0 and there are a lot of rows that show as a zero length blank space, or text, or something. I just know that it is not an Integer.

I have attempted to CAST and Convert this value, but it will not. I have changed the data type on the table that is being inserted in too, and it still fails with a Conversion error. I have tried REPLACE(), but still the same conversion error.

Page Header Taking Up Blank Space On 1st Page Even If Not Printing

Apr 15, 2008

In SRSS 2005 (SP2) my page header seems to take up the same amount of space on the
1st page it would take if it were to print; I have PRINT ON FIRST PAGE set to
false - the header doesn't print - it just leaves the same amount of space.
How do you get the report to ignore that. I do have a report header built
into the body of my report. I have tested this by increasing the size of my
page header and it does move the report up or down on the 1st page by that
amount.

Query Question - Drawing A Blank On This One.

Nov 14, 2007

Hello everyone,

For whatever reason I can't figure out a query I need to write.

Let€™s say I have two tables, table 1 and 2. Table1 has columns A, B, and C with 10 rows.

I want to write a query that says: update table 2 where at least one value of column B in table 1 is not null.

How do i write this query?

Many thanks...

Select Query From A Stored Proc When The Values Can Be Blank.

Oct 10, 2006

Hi All,

I think what am trying to do is quite basic.

I have 3 paramaters@value1, @value2,@value3 being passed into a stored
proc and each of these parameters can be blank. If one of them is blank
and the rest of them have some valid values, then I should just exclude
the column check for the value that is blank.

For e.g if all my parameters being passed are non- empty then I would
do this
select * from tblName
where column1 like @value1 and column2 like @value2 and column3 like
@value3

else if I have one of the parameter being passed as empty, I should
ignore that parameter like
if@value1 is empty then my sql should be

select * from tblName
where column2 like @value2 and column3 like @value3

I don't want to do a dyanmic sql because of rights and security issue.
I want it through a stored procedure only.

Also, all the three columns can have null values in the table.
Please let me know what is the best possible way to do this. Thanks in
advance !.

The Query Processor Ran Out Of Stack Space....Please Simplify The Query.

Oct 9, 2007

I received the following error today while migrating some code from SQL 2000 standard to SQL 2005 standard:

The query processor ran out of stack space during query optimization. Please simplify the query.

From what I gather, this error is usually an indication that one of the SQL Server 2005 maximum capacity specifications has been exceeded. However, I'm not sure which one. The only one that seems suspect is the number of nested subqueries (32), however I believe the numerous subqueries in my query would be classified as correlated rather than nested.

An example of my code is below. It is necessarily messy, as the output needs to be denormalized somewhat. Note that this runs just fine on SQL 2000, and it retrieves the 1500 or so rows of data in about 30 seconds. Thanks in advance for any ideas as to what may be causing this error. (Sorry for not using code-block, but all the html tags it threw in were exceeding the 50,000 character limit for the message)

SQL Server 2012 :: Query Tuning With Each Run Of Fresh / Blank CACHE

Jun 4, 2015

I am using SQL Server 2012 Express.

I am doing performance tuning of SP/Query in Dev-Test environment.

I found that SQL Server caches plan between successive executions.

So if I test/execute SP 10 times, after 1st or 2nd execution, SQL server will pull-up plan-info from CACHE...Not from SQL SERVER Or Database...

Means i am not getting correct answer...

I found this 2 commands:

DBCC FREEPROCCACHE

DBCC DROPCLEANBUFFERS

But they say that executing above command might interfere/bother other people executing other query/sp on this server.

They also say that: Freeing the plan cache causes, for example, a stored procedure to be recompiled instead of reused from the cache. This can cause a sudden, temporary decrease in query performance.

Part of query was using Dynamic-SQL executed with EXEC command.

I replaced that with SP_EXECUTESQL.

How can I start testing of each SP-run with Fresh/Blank CACHE ?

Can I Find The Drive Space Using A SQL Query?

Jun 1, 2001

Hey - I know that I can find space information about SQL Server. Allocated space, free space, used space, data space, etc... BUT is there a way that I can query how much total/available space is on the actual drive? For example, let's say that I have SQL installed on the D drive of a Server; i also have another application on that drive. I know that I can query how much room SQL Server is using, but can i query how much total/available space is on the drive? Any help appreciated.

Query Optimisor Out Of Stack Space

Oct 4, 2006

Hi,

I have recently upgraded to SQL Server 2005 (SP1) Developer Edition from SQL Server 2000 (SP4). Since doing so, i have been unable to delete any records from a specific table.

I have found this is due to having approximately 340 foreign key constraints referencing the UserID column of the table.

This functionality worked in SQL Server 2000. Do Microsoft plan to release any fixes for this issue?

Kind Regards,
Martyn...

Mutilple Space Gets Converted To Single Space In Report Viewer Control

Feb 23, 2007

I am generating a Report from Sql Data Source in Sql Server 2005 and viewing the Report in Report viewer control of Visual Studio 2005.
The data in the Data Source contains string with multiple spaces (for example €œ Test String €œ) but when they get rendered in Report viewer control, multiple spaces gets converted to single space €? Test String €œ.

I tried following solutions
1) Replacing spaces with €œ&nbsp;€?
2) Inserting <pre> tag before the string and </pre> tag after the string (Also tried &lt;Pre&gt; instead of <pre>)

But in all the cases result is same. The Report Viewer control is showing €œ&nbsp€? instead of space and €œ<Pre>€? tag instead of preserving spaces.

Please provide me a solution so that spaces can be preserved in Report Viewer.

Can I Find The Space Allocated For A Database W/ Query Analyzer Using 7.0?

May 15, 2001

My group is trying to ensure that there is a sufficient amount of cushion between the space allocated and the current size of a database. I know that I can check this using the Enterprise Manager. Is there a stored procedure or a systems table that holds this information. I know that sp_spaceused will give me the unallocated space, but i want the allocated space. Any suggestions?

Trans Log-&>space Allocated 27GB, Space Used 100MB

Mar 2, 2005

Hi.. I was doing a good maintenance on my DB and my trans log LDF keep growing until 30GB but my DB data file MDF is only 2GB. I found the two following method to reduce my log size.

Method 1: I used veritas to backup log file with truncate
Method 2: I used the shrink database option in Enterprises manager to shrink it (file chosen=log , use default option)

After doing that, I found my LDF log file is still about the same size=27GB but when I see clearly, from the shrink database windows, the log spaced used reduced to only 100MB, the allocation log space is still 27GB. Why? How to make the LDF smaller to be the around the same size as the space used 100MB?
