SQL Reporting Services 2005: Filtering Tables By Date And Time
Feb 19, 2008
I am trying to generate a report that is basically a class list. It lists classes for a specific semester and lists them by day of the week and then by time.
If I am pulling back a dataset of all classes, how do I filter my report so as to show each set of classes appropriately (by day and by time within the day)? I tried using the Filter function on the table level, but I guess I don't get it.
My table would need to look like this:
MONDAY:
8:30 - 9:30
9:30- 11:30
11:30-1:30
classnum/prof
classnum/prof
classnum/prof
classnum/prof
classnum/prof
classnum/prof
TUESDAY:
8:30 - 9:30
9:30- 11:30
11:30-1:30
classnum/prof
classnum/prof
classnum/prof
classnum/prof
classnum/prof
classnum/prof

hi,
I have a trouble in filtering with SQL reporting services 2005 (SSRS). Please help me in clearing this issue.
I have a textbox and an dropdownbox with all the column names of a table in it. I will be entering some text in the textbox and will select a column name in the dropdownbox. I should get a result by checking the value of the textbox in the selected colum from the dropdownbox.
I give the query in where condition as: "(@dropdownvalue LIKE @Textboxname) ", which is not working.
Thanks in advance,
John.

Is there a way in Reporting Services to filter based on a parameter, but get it to use distinct values?
Currently I have a dataset that is grouped on a Branch value and a Team value.
The end-user wants to be able to filter out data based on the branch values, however when I set it up to that field it comes back with:
Branch 1
Branch 1
Branch 1
Branch 2
Branch 2
Branch 3
Branch 3
and the same goes with Team, which is a sub-group of branch. Is there any way I could set this up so that the parameter drop-down will only display distinct values? Also, is it possible to do the same with another parameter based upon the branch parameter.
Ex.
Branch 1 contains Team 01, Team 02, and Team 03
Branch 2 contains Team 04, Team 05
User selects to filter by Branch 1, the Team dropdown should only contain options for further filtering on Team 01, Team 02, and Team 03 not all of them.
Any help is much appreciated.

I have a problem with Date/Time parameters. When I try to preview reports locally, I get the following error message for dates past the 12th of a month:
An error occured during local report processing. The value provided for the report parameter 'Date' is not valid for its type.
My report is set to de-CH. If I enter a date into the datepicker in Swiss/German format (dd.mm.yyyy) Visual Studio changes them to mm/dd/yyyy but somehow tests them against dd.mm.yyyy and throws an error.
Windows language is German, SQL Server and Visual Studio are in English.
I installed the German language pack for Visual Studio and switched over to German to no avail. Changing the report language to en-US did not work either.

We run std 2008 r2. I downloaded an rdl whose 2 date/partial time cols used to expand on the server to accommodate times with two digits in hr. When I preview in vs 2008, everything is ok. But when I copy back to the server, these longer date strings now wrap to next line. Why is this? Only change was to a param's drop down ds query. expression for one of the cols is
=Format(Fields!LoginDt.Value, "MM/dd/yy" &
" " &
"h:mm tt")
height is currently allowed to increase.

I am trying to display time difference between an Admission Date and a Discharge date as follows:
Admission Date:8/26/2015 6:59pm
Discharge Date:9/1/2015 6:49pm
Time Display 5D 23H
I used the following expression but came up with an error
Not sure what I am doing wrong or if this is the best expression to use
=(TimeSpan.FromMinutes(Avg(DateDiff(“n”,<Fields!Admission_Date.Value>,<Fields!Actual_Discharge_Date.Value>)))).Days

(TimeSpan.FromMinutes(Avg(DateDiff(“n”,<Fields!Admission_Date.Value>,<Fields!Actual_Discharge_Date.Value>)))).Minutes

Hi,I have a date/time field in a SQL2000 database, and what I would liketo do is to filter on a specific part of the field, for example thetime or hour.Supposing I have a set of data for the last 5 years and would like tofilter out any records which are outside working hours i.e. I wouldlike to show records where the time is between 9am and 5pm.Does anyone know if there is a simple way to do this in SQL? If yousimply don't specify the date part in the where clause (e.g. WHEREissuedatetime between '09:00:00' and '17:00:00') it defaults it to1900-01-01 so basically no data is returned. The only way I can see to do this is by using the DATEPART function, converting it to a varchar, appending 1900-01-01 on to it andconverting it to a datetime, and then using the where clause as statedabove. This is quite a long-winded way, however. Any other suggestions? Thanks,Matt

Hello,
We are using Reporting Services 2005 with large amount of data.
Our reports displays the data in various presentation (charts, tables, Images and matrixes).
Sometimes the underline queries takes a lot of time (few algorithms implemented by SQL and few by web services).
We tried to run the reports in various scenarios and we are getting a timeout n each of the scenarios:
1. Running the report with windows application (based on Report Viewer control)
2. Running the report via subscription.
We noticed than the timeout occurs after about 20 minutes.
WE changed the following parameters:
1. The system timeout in the report server database: 60000
2. Reports execution timeout (site level): Do not timeout report execution
3. Reports execution timeout (report level):
a. Do not timeout report execution
b. A very big number

I noticed that the Reporting Services is taking longer to open in the morning or after a period of time in-active. My guest is that the SSRS is set to idle/stop after certain time when it is in-active state and it will take time to start the Reporting Services when it is activated. My question is how to make SSRS active all the time ie never go to "sleep". What is the Pro and Con of this approach? Thanks.

Hi,
I have being trying this for quiet a while now and I just cant find a solution. Basically I have a field called Total Active. The total active indicates for example..... A project is open or closed. If the project is open, the value 1 is displayed in the database and if closed the value 0 is displayed in the database.
So I have my field in reporting services and now I just want to count all the open projects. I thought you could do this:
= Count(Fields!Active_flag.value = 1)
This does not seem to work.....or my syntax is wrong or something.
Then I tried to pass all the values in Fields!Active_flag as a object using VB custom code. Example:
=code.getTotalActive(Fields!Active_flag.value)
then receive the Object and loop through it to count all the 1's in the Object (Active_flag.value) and pass the total back. However I was not successful with this because I couldnt get the length of the Object....which I needed to iterate through all the values.
My next attempt which I thought was a sure winner was using a group and filtering out all the 0's which left only 1's that I could count. But this brought about another problem.....the filter only looks for 1's and then counts the 1's and displays then.... But when it doesnt find any 1's then the entire Field does not display on the report. This is very frustrating because I would rather have is say "no projects active" instead of it not displaying.
Any help will be much appreciated. I have boggled my mind for the solution.
thanks
Ziyaad

I need to Filter Employees by Available Date and grab their Basic contact information
I used Join to Join both tables but I can't seem to find a way to only get data from employees where DateAv > SelectedDate.
I'm using this in a SqlCommand with C#.
SELECT " EmployeeNameTable.ID, EmployeeNameTable.FullName, EmployeeNameTable.DateAV,ContactTable.HomePhone, ContactTable.MobilePhone, ContactTable.Email FROM EmployeeNameTable INNER JOIN ContactTable On EmployeeNameTable.ID = ContactTable.ID OrderBy EmployeeNameTable.FullName"
This code loads all employees Successfully but it doesn't filter them by the DateAV Column which is in Date Format.

Hi all,
I have created a report in SSRS 2005 which is being viewed by users from different Time Zones.
I have a dataset which has a field of type datetime (UTC). Now I would like to display this Date according to the User Time Zone.
For example if the date is August 07, 2007 10:00 AM UTC,
then I would like to display it as August 07, 2007 03:30 PM IST if the user Time Zone is IST.
Similarly for other Time Zones it should display the time accordingly.
Is this possible in SSRS 2005?
Any pointers will be usefull...
Thanks in advance

I am creating custom reports from TFS data in Report Builder 3.0. What I am trying to do is make it possible to run the report and then filter on something and only display those results. For example.. I have created a report with Project Name, Deployment Dates.
The report returns all the project names with a particular type of work item with a planned release date. I would like to be able to drop down and select a particular project name and only display results from that project. By default, I do want all the projects to display but want the possibility to select a specific project.
Do I go to dataset properties of the project name field and add an expression under the filters section?Do I also need a parameter?

I'm building a report that has a column in the table called countries of origin, that column can contain data like "USA","China" ( normal countries) but some rows can also contain "USA, China, Australia" ( multiple counties in one row).
I'm trying to build a filter to filter my results :
-I have a data set created with a list of all world countries
-I've Build a Parameter containing a drop down list with all countries
--- My problem is when I want to create the filter in my main data set , I can so it , but when I search for example for "USA" , I don't get the lines where there are multiple countries and "USA" is one of them...
There must be an expression in the filter that will be able to search through all the values in the string and return me my correct results.

The Date variable is initiated as DATEADD("dd",-1, GETDATE()) in the for loop.
Now, as this job runs at 3 am, and I set the variable as GETDATE() - 1, it excluded the data from 12 am to 3 am in the resultset as Date is set as YYYY-MM-DD 03:00:00:000 I need this to be set as YYYY-MM-DD 00:00:00:000

we have problems with our SQL Reporting Service 2012 (SSRS) server . We have setup Kerberos delegation between SSRS and the database server (SQL Server Always-on cluster) so users are authenticated down to the database. The issue occurs from time to time that SSRS loses the ability to delegate the user credentials to the database. At this point in time the Report Server logs contain rejected database connections because of ANONYMOUS logon. After restarting SSRS the problem is gone.

We've got a requirement to build the real time report. user can browse report at any point of time and need to see the latest data(stock market) in the report.
I've few options down...
1. Directly point to OLTP database as source and write stored procedure to show result set.
2. Replicate the database and write the SP's to reports. To avoid pointing directly to OLTP db.
3. To build the datawarehouse with dim & facts to show it in reports. I prefer this as a standard method, but this would have some latency depending on trasaction load which will differ from the requirement.

Hello,
I am trying to migrate my reports from SQL server 2000 reporting services 32bit to 2005 64bit. I am following the migration steps that MS specified.
Restored my Reportserver and ReportserverTempDB databases
Then I was using the configure Report services to upgrade these databases but I always end up getting the follwoing exception when I run the upgrade on the "Database Setup" configuration for 'ReportServerTempDB' database
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Could not locate entry in sysdatabases for database 'ReportServerTempDBTempDB'. No entry found with that name. Make sure that the name is entered correctly.
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlInternalConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection)

at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteNonQueryTds(String methodName, Boolean async)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.InternalExecuteNonQuery(DbAsyncResult result, String methodName, Boolean sendToPipe)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()
at Microsoft.ReportingServices.Common.DBUtils.ApplyScript(String connectionString, String script)
at ReportServicesConfigUI.SqlClientTools.SqlTools.ApplyScript(String connectionString, String script)
It's driving me crazy, why is it looking for 'ReportServerTempDBTempDB' in the catalog instead of 'ReportServerTempDB'?
Is it possible to migrate from 32bit to 64bit?
Any help is appreciated

A date field in a report returns the date value as:
2015-07-01 13:30:27.000
Is there any way I can script this to appear as:
01 July 2015 (or 01-07-2015 or 01/07/2015) - basically to cut out the hours, minutes and seconds?
The best I have managed is: CONVERT (varchar(17),DATE,113) AS Date1 but this still leaves me with:
01 July 2015 13:30

How do you Write an expression to Return the date value based on the most recent date only?
Eg. Date 10-7-2015, action - done, notes - all items fixed.
Date 4-5-2016, action - not yet done, notes - buying parts
All these dates are returned based on a search parameter based on a project number. I only want the most current date and associated fields displayed.

Firstly sorry if this already exists but I can't find it the answer anywhere.
I'm running Visual Studio 2005 Reporting Service. I have a SQL query which is reutrning a count of second which I need to display in HHH:MMS format.
integer value = 144322 which is displaying as 16:05:22 or 02/01/1900 16::05
the end result needs to be 40:05:22
It is quite visable what SQL is doing but I am having big issues around how to reach the result.
Any help much appreciated.
SUM(Call_Length) AS Total_Talk_secs,
DATEADD(second, SUM(Call_Length), '00:00:00') AS Total_Talk_Time,

Hi all!
If I have some mdx I'm using in reporting services like this:
select
{ [TimeByMinute].[All TimeByMinute].[2005].[May].[1] : [TimeByMinute].[All TimeByMinute].[2005].[May].[6] } on columns,
{A_list_of_measures } on rows
from ACD_Calls
The column names are unique to the day of month- which means when I use a table to display this in reporting services, the field names change dynamically when the date parameters change which means the table stops working.
I'll post this in reporting services too but I thought maybe I could alias the column names in mdx shielding the reporting services table from changes in dates.
What do you think? Would a matrix be more flexible in this case?

Now I need to use the following expression with this:

How do I join the two together?

I need to round a time field to the nearest quarter hour inside of SSRS.
For example:
8:12 becomes 8:15
2:30 becomes 2:30
1:57 becomes 2:00

Do I need to take a hidden parameter just for aggregation? Or is there any other way?
