SQL Reporting Services Delivery Extensions For Email. Not Working, Please Help.
Jan 10, 2007
In Sql Reporting Services 2005 (This is bolded because this same error is all over the web for Sql Reporting Services 2000 and thats not where my problem lies) I schedule a report to be emailed. However when the delivery extensions Deliver method is called I get the following error
Failure sending mail: The report server has encountered a configuration
error. See the report server log files for more information.
In the log it shows the following
ReportingServicesService!emailextension!4!01/10/2007-12:21:01:: Error sending email. So it seems to be failing at GetAuthzContextForUser
I've set up my smtp as out domain email smtp, given the accounts all the permissions I could (Even going to far as to give Everyone permissions everywhere)
Currently my IIS, SQL 2005 and reporting Services 2005 as well as my local SMTP is running on the local machine account.
I cannot seem to get it to work, or even give me a different error.
Could anybody please tell me what needs permission where and what settings I need to have set up for this not to happen.
Some extra information
I'm using Windows XP to develop on however the server where this will eventually run is Windows Server 2003
I'm using ASP.NET 2 and SQL Reporting Services 2005 and SQL 2005 with sp1 loaded
Any help would be appreciated

Studied few blogs that related it to agent service running under local system account, on my machine it was running on NT/NetworkService change it to Administrator of local Machine. Did same change for Database Engine of Service of SQL Instance.

Hi All,
I have been stuck with this problem since few days, need help regarding the same. I am enclosing the problem description and possible solutions that I have found.
Can anyone please help me out here?
Thanks and regards,
Virat
Problem Description:
I have a requirement for which I have created a data driven subscription in
SQL Server 2005, the whole thing works like this:
I have a report on Report Server which executes a stored procedure to get
its parameters; then it calls another stored procedure to get data for the
report; then it creates the report and copies it to a file share. This is
done using data driven subscription and the time set for repeating this
process is 5 minutes.
You can assume that following are working fine:
1. I have deployed the report on the Report Manager (Uploaded the report,
created a data source, linked the report to data source) - manually, the
report works fine.
2. Created a data driven subscription.
3. The data driven subscription calls a stored procedure, say
GetReportParameters which returns all the parameters required for the report
to execute.
4. The Report Manager executes the report by calling a stored procedure, say
GetReportData with the parameters provided by GetReportParameters stored
procedure; after it has generated the report file (PDF) is copied to a file
share.
For each row that GetReportParameters stored procedure returns a report (PDF
file) will be created and copied to file share.
Now, my question is
1. How to I get a notification that this file was successfully created
or an error occurred?
2. The only message that reporting service shows on 'Report Manager >
My Subscriptions' is something like "Done: 5 processed of 10 total; 2
errors."
How do I find out which record was processed successfully and which ones
resulted in an error?
Based on above results (success or failure), I have to perform further
operations.
Solutions or Work around that I have found:
1. Create a windows service which will monitor the file share folder
and look for the file name (each record has a unique file name) for the
reports that were picked up for PDF creation. If the file is not found, this
service will report an error. Now, there's a glitch there; if a report takes
very long time to execute it will also be reported as error (i.e. when this
service checks for the PDF file, the report was currently being generated).
So, I can't go with this solution.
2. I have also looked at following tables on ReportServer database:
a. Catalog - information regarding all the reports, folders, data
source information, etc.
b. Subscriptions - all the subscriptions information.
c. ExecutionLog - information regarding execution of the subscriptions
and the also manual execution of reports.
d. Notifications - information regarding the errors that occurred
during subscription execution.
For this solution, I was thinking of doing a windows service which will
monitor these tables and do further operations as required.
This looks like most feasible solution so far.
3. Third option is to look at DeliveryExtensions but in that case I
will have to manually call SSRS APIs and will have to manage report
invocation and subscription information. What is your opinion on this?
My environment details:
Windows XP SP2
SQL Server 2005
Reporting Services 2005
Please let me know if I am missing something somewhere...

Hi All
We have requirement in Reports. When ever report is sent to file share using Reporting Services File Share extension than details of that file should be saved in database.
How can we achieve this functionality? What is the best possible way of achieving this?
Please let me know the solution.
Thanks in advance

Hi guys!
I am having a problem with the e-mail delivery extension in MS SQL Reporting Services 2005. I have some reports that use an Oracle data source. When running the reports through Report Manager the data source works fine and the reports display properly. But when running an automatic e-mail delivery of the reports through a subscription I get the following error message (in the ReportServerService log file):
System.Data.OracleClient requires Oracle client software version 8.1.7 or greater.
Doesn't this seem strange when the reports run in Report Manager but not when I send the reports through e-mail? I have Oracle Instant client v. 10.2.0.3 installed on the machine. I am wondering if the e-mail delivery extension has an account that needs privilegies to the oracle client home directory or something like that. Any ideas?
Thanks!
/Stefan

I have a report that groups a particular dataset by customer, with a page break between each customer. If print this report, it looks great - one page per customer.
What I would like to do is have the report deployed on schedule to a windows file share, one .pdf file per customer. How to parse the output into individual .pdfs (one per customer) instead of a single .pdf containing all customers? I get it if this is not possible.
My current (painful) workaround would be to replicate the report for each potential customer, and set a schedule for each report to deploy sequentially. (Customer 1 at 9:00, Customer 2 at 9:01, etc).
Currently on SQL Server/Visual Studio 2008.

I'm using the web service to run reports from an application. However, I don't want to wait for a report to complete; I would like to just have the report emailed to the user when it is complete. I've only found email delivery through subscriptions. Is there another way to deliver reports via email?
If I have to use subscriptions I would like to set them to run "immediately". I've found that setting the start date to sometime in the past does not seem to run the report. Is there some way to set a schedule to run immediately. I've thought of setting the time to the near future, but I seem to have the problem of getting the proper timestamp. Can I get this through the web service some how?
Thanks,
Sam

Has anyone figured out a good way of doing this?
The only suggestions I have seen along these lines involve scheduling the job every day and then manually editing the SQL Agent job that is created.
However the problem with this is that it completely removes the ability for non programmers to set the schedule themselves using the web interface.
Any ideas?

Hi,
I am new to reporting services. I am currently on the maintenance of few reports that are developed.
Any subscribed report I attempt to deliver via email is failing with a strange error.
"Failure sending mail: The report server has encountered a configuration error. See the report server log files for more information."
I am not able to understand where this log file is stored..where can I find this? Please let me know.. and if someone has faced this error before then what could be the reason? I am using SQL Server 2005 on Windows Server 2003 R2 standard edition.
Cheers

I am getting the following error when I set up a subscription, I am able to send smtp messages from the same server using a winclient, I also made sure that the user that runs the RS service is the same as the winclient.
Read all the ms docs about setting the email settings, have tried quite a lot of them, but for some reason i have been getting the following error. Just unable to bypass this!
I wonder if someone has had a similar exp.
Failure sending mail: The server rejected the sender address. The server response was: 454 5.7.3 Client does not have permission to Send As this sender
Installing a local SMTP might not work as our polocies are to run smtp from exchange.

Hi, this question is related to Reporting Services on SQL Server 2000. When creating a report and setting it to send via email as an attached excel spreadsheet, the email is in the format HTML. Does anyone know if it possible to default this format to something else like Rich Text. I have a feeling that this might involve a change to the RSEmailDPConfiguration within the RSReportServer.config file but am not sure which tag needs changing or adding.
Any help/suggestions greatfully received.

I currently have a report on our Reporting Services 2005 server that takes a CompanyID as its only parameter. Also, in our database, we have a list of contacts that are linked to the CompanyID that is used in the report. What I would like to do is email a pdf or each company's report to every contact for that company in our database daily. However I am stuck on how to do that. My project is using C#, but if there is a way to do this directly through Reporting Services I could do that as well. If anyone could help me out I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

I just moved our SSRS server from one machine to another. It was sending our report emails from a service account. So when my end users get the emailed report it was from a service account (reports@blah.com) .
Now that I moved the DB to another server - the reports get emailed successfully - but they are being sent from my email address!
I have checked the rsreportserver config file. I also checked in the report server smtp setup and they both show the service account. I even checked the subscription owners and accounts.
SSRS is using my account, but I can't find where it's getting it from. Where else can I look?

I have a SSRS report that parses RTF to TXT and displays it in a report. The report works fine and everything displays correctly. In case of having only one host, is the <HostName> tag mandatory? I was not able to find more information regarding the xsd on which the configuration file is based. To be more specific, is it possible to define the PermittedHost like this or will this result in an error?

I had to make room on the system partition so I uninstalled SQL 2005 Ent. and reinstalled it in a different partition, which is mounted in c:apps. Since doing this, although MSSQL works fine, RS does not respond. During the reinstall, Setup reported that RS was "installed but not configured". I ran the RS Configuration Mgr and went through the config sequence. However, on the Initialization page, which has a red 'x' in the left panel, the local server is not listed -- the grid is empty.
The RS service is running, using the same credentials as MSSQL, the admin account .SQLExec. It logs a normal startup in the Event Log. However, on visiting http://localhost/Reports, I get a message saying that Reporting Services is not responding. SP2 installed OK on the system, and reported that all components were upgraded.
How can I debug this installation?

Is anyone else having problems with subscriptions and delivery with SQL Reporting Services? I can set up a subscription and uncheck "Include Report" and the email sends fine. When I try and "Include Report" such as a PDF I get "Failure sending mail: The Report Server has encountered a configuration error; more details in the log files" This was the default set up. I guess I am not sure as to what user/service accounts should be used. The Reporting Service and SQL are on the same machine (2003).
Thanks for ANY suggestions!!

I have report which accepts a card number and fromdate and todate as parameters to the report. This report needs to be sent on a quarterly basis to each of the customer mail id to which their card number is linked. I am getting all this information from a database and sending as an attachment to the customer. Now I would need making these filename's which are attached to be dynamic based on the input parameters.
In datadriven subscriptions, the option of include report has only true or false values and another option was to take from a database. I tried putting the dynamic file name in the database and getting the value from the database but no success, the subscription itself is failing here. I guess I am doing something wrong here by binding the report name from the value which I am getting from DB to the actual report name.
If report name = Mytransactions, and the parameters passed are Card = 123,fromdate = 1/1/2010,todate = 31/3/2010.
Now in the attachment the file name should be something like "Mytransactions_123_January1st2010_March31st2010".
How to make the filename dynamic.

I have been working for days to translate a report out of an old system and in SQL reporting services.
Getting the basic code down to get the required data was easy, however getting it to work in reporting services has turned into a nightmare.
Why, because I have been told that SQL reporting services does not allow temporary tables...HUH!
Ok, so how am I supposed to take three data queries and munge them together into a report.
Here is the query that does work, can anyone give me an idea of how to make this work given the limitations I have run up against.
I have already thought of using a store procedure, but we have ruled that out since would likely have to do it via linked servers, which would be expensive. We thought of having it just create and then link real tables and then delete them...not sure thats going to work, and again probably talking linked servers to get that to work.
Code:
select distinct al3.asg_location into ##tmp1
from dbo.probsummarym2 AL3
inner join dbo.probsummarym1 AL1 on AL3.number=AL1.number
where AL1.assignment='international client services'
AND AL1.status='Closed'
AND AL1.close_time BETWEEN {ts '2006-05-28 00:00:00.000'} AND {ts '2006-06-04 00:00:00.000'}
and al3.asg_location is not null
SELECT AL3.asg_location as asg_location, Count (AL3.resolve_met) as met_sla into ##tmp2
FROM dbo.probsummarym1 AL1, dbo.probsummarym2 AL3
WHERE (AL3.number=AL1.number)
AND (AL1.severity_code<>'Scheduled'
AND AL1.status='Closed'
AND AL1.close_time BETWEEN {ts '2006-05-28 00:00:00.000'} AND {ts '2006-06-04 00:00:00.000'}
AND AL3.resolve_met='t'
AND AL1.assignment='international client services'
)
GROUP BY AL3.asg_location
SELECT AL3.asg_location as asg_location, Count (AL1.status) as sch_closed into ##tmp3
FROM dbo.probsummarym1 AL1, dbo.probsummarym2 AL3
WHERE (AL3.number=AL1.number)
AND (AL1.assignment='international client services'
AND AL1.severity_code='Scheduled'
AND AL1.status='Closed'
AND AL1.close_time BETWEEN {ts '2006-05-28 00:00:00.000'} AND {ts '2006-06-04 00:00:00.000'}
)
GROUP BY AL3.asg_location
SELECT AL3.asg_location as asg_location, Count (AL1.status) as unsch_closed into ##tmp4
FROM dbo.probsummarym1 AL1, dbo.probsummarym2 AL3
WHERE (AL3.number=AL1.number)
AND (AL1.assignment='international client services'
AND AL1.severity_code<>'Scheduled'
AND AL1.status='Closed'
AND AL1.close_time BETWEEN {ts '2006-05-28 00:00:00.000'} AND {ts '2006-06-04 00:00:00.000'}
)
GROUP BY AL3.asg_location
select ##tmp1.asg_location, ##TMP3.sch_closed, ##tmp2.met_sla, ##tmp4.unsch_closed
from ##tmp1 left outer join ##tmp2 on ##tmp1.asg_location = ##tmp2.asg_location
left outer join ##tmp3 on ##tmp1.asg_location = ##tmp3.asg_location
left outer join ##tmp4 on ##tmp1.asg_location = ##tmp4.asg_location
group by ##tmp1.asg_location, ##TMP3.sch_closed, ##tmp2.met_sla, ##tmp4.unsch_closed
order by ##tmp1.asg_location
drop table ##tmp1, ##tmp2, ##tmp3, ##tmp4

I have created a report that sharing two datasets for displaying the data. This datasets are using Stored procedure for execution of the report. One of the stored procedure using Order by clause and returning the data. But on running the report , the report viewer displays the unsorted data of the filed. But if we run the stored procedure directly from the sql server , it will return the sorted data.

I have a working set of parameters, when they are all visible. However, when I change the second parameter to hidden it stops working.
First Parameter - Contains static values 'MTD' & Daily
Second Parameter - has available values and a default. Set up to be invalidated when the First parameter changes... like i say it works beautifully when not hidden.
Third Parameter - has an expression takes the value of the 2nd parameter value, removes the first character off and then converts the remainder to a date and uses it as its default value.
It based on this webpage: URL....However, when i set the second parameter to hidden it no longer works.

We are facing an issue related to SSRS 2012. We have Reporting Services 2012 configured on a couple of servers. On one server, we have created Datasources and Data-driven subscriptions for our reports and selected email as the report delivery option. But the subscriptions are not working. The LastRunTime column is NULL in the Subscriptions table in the ReportServer database and no email is being triggered. Also, no error message is displayed. The same reporting solution is working on another server that also uses Reporting Services 2012.

I installed the SQL Server Express Advances w/ Reporting Services, but it doesn't appear to be working. When I bring the URL up in my web browser all I get is this:
transam/ReportServer$SQLExpress - /
Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services Version 9.00.2047.00
Any tips on where to begin looking for what is wrong?
