SQL Server 2005 Developer's Version Installation Problem -- No SQL Server 2005 Studio Manager Gets Installed.
Sep 3, 2007I installed Visual Studio 2005 Professional then after that was installed and running, I tried to install the the SQL Server 2005 Developer's Edition which installed but I do not get the SQL Server 2005 Studio Manager. I have remove and reinstalled but it never gets installed. Any ideas?

The reason is because the Enterprise Evaluation version expires after 180 days. So if I create reports and cubes in Enterprise Evaluation I can import them into Developer Edition right? Should I remove the Enterprise Evaluation version after 180 days or leave it then install Developer Edition?

Jul 16, 2007Now, I checked and verified that my backup version of SQL Server is the same as the version installed on the computer I'm restoring too.
I have SQL Server on a production machine that I backed up and want to test a full restore on a dev machine to make sure it will work when I need it to.
Now that I've run the restore command on my tape backup and go to restart the SQL server service I receive:
Configuration block version 0 is not a valid version number. SQL Server is exiting. Restore the master database or reinstall.
I'm afraid I don't understand why this is happening. If the builds are the same, then shouldn't restoring the MASTER database have worked normally and I'd be able to restart the service now?
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Upgraded Express To Developer Edition Is Not As Easy As Advertised; Error When Adding A Database To Website
Dec 22, 2006In trying to upgrade my sql express install from express to developer edition, I ended up having to delete all things express from my computer and do a clean install of developer edition (as i installed developer edition initially over sql express but this didnt seem to work; express edition still appeared in add remove programs etc). Anyway so i blew away the install and have a clean install of developer edition. Now when I create a new website in Visual Studio 2005 and try to add a database to the project, it gives me an error stating that i need to have sql server express 2005 installed to function properly... Do i need to have express AND developer edition of sql installed to do this? Dec 8, 2003I installed SQL Server 2000 Developer and I get an Error 1069 Server does not exist or Access Denied. Also it is saying there is a login error. Can anyone offer any help?

SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 Has Not Upgraded Visual Studio 2005 Business Intelligence Tools

I understand from previous threads that installing SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 on the desktop client can speed up the response rate of the Visual Studio 2005 Business Intelligence Tools.
However after logging on as an administrator and installing Service Pack 2, Service Pack 2 returned no errors. However after launching Visual Studio and clicking on the about dialog box the version reported was still €œRTM.050727-4200€? where I was expecting to see €œSP.050727-7600€?.
I understood that I applied the same service pack to my copy of SQL Server on my laptop and the upgrade worked successfully.
Can anyone help?

Timeout Connecting To Upgraded 2005 Server
Nov 2, 2007I just did a 2005 "In-Place" upgrade to a 2000 server yesterday, and now we're getting intermittant time-out errors trying to connect via SQL Server Management Studio. Sometimes we connect instantly, then if I try again 10 minutes later, it might time-out. No problems with our other 4 SQL 2005 servers (2 were just upgraded, 2 are native 2005). No timeouts so far when logged on to the server directly, just when logging in from our desks.
It's set to TCPIP only (removed named pipes), but can't think what else might be the problem. Any ideas ?
One little thing I just noticed while comparing to another server: In the console, a "good" server has the little green arrow on the server & SQL Agent icons, while the "problem" server is connected, but there is no green arrow. If I log on the server directly and open SQL, I get the green arrows. Is that trying to tell me something about the connection ??

I upgraded my XP and when attempting to restart my web site using MSSQL 2005 my login credentials were not recognised. Now, the Databse does not want to start and I can not login to check error logs. I have enclosed the error message that I am experiencing.

We just upgraded to SQL Server 2005 from SQL Server 2000. The DB was backed up using Enterprise Manager and restored with SQL Server Management Studio Express CTP. Everything went as expected (no errors, warnings, or any other indicator of problems).
The DB resides in a DB Server (Server1) and the application we are running is a Client/Server system where the AppServer resides on Server2.
During the application's operation all read, create, and delete transactions work fine but no update works. When viewing details in Trace Log I see this message after attempting any update:
Could not find server 'Server1' in sysservers. Execute sp_addlinkedserver to add the server to sysservers. (7202)

Nov 24, 2007There are conflicting postings everywhere about this. I built a small site using VWD and SQL Server Express, but need to convert to Sql Server 2005 Developer because the DB will exceed 4Gb. Tried to install and could not connect or use from VWD. Tried to uninstall, got into large mess with the byzantine uninstall process, and have now started with a clean machine.
I installed SQL Server 2005 Developer first, then installed VWD Express 2008 without installing SQL Server Express. VWD won't let me connect to an existing database, won't let me add a new database and doesn't even show the Database Tools option under the Tools menu.
Is there someone with specific knowledge that can provide any enlightenment? Would be much appreciated.

Since some analysis services features are only available in Enterprise version , I have to upgrade my SQL 2005 server from standard edition to enterpise edition.
So I uninstall originial standard version of analysis service and install a Enterprise version. However, the analysis service is still a standard version after installation.
Is it possible to keep data engine as standard version and install a enterprise version of analysis service?

Updading Sql Server 2005 From 32bit Version To 64 Bit Version
Mar 12, 2007We have a 64bit os machine that we accidently loaded the 32 bit version of sql server on. We now want to upgrade it to 64 bit sql server, but we now have a production database on it. My understanding is that all I have to do is detach the production database, upgrade to 64bit sql server, then reattach the database. Is this really all I have to do?

I have a package that has a data lfow task. this task imports data from a db2 database (using the IBM Ole DB provider fro db2) and adds it to sql server database table. This package was created on the server. then though version control (using TFS source control) I check out the package on my local machine. and when I open the package I get the foll 3 errors.
Error 1 Validation error. Import Account Num from BMGP_BDR: DTS.Pipeline: The component metadata for "component "DataReader Source" (1113)" could not be upgraded to the newer version of the component. The PerformUpgrade method failed.
Error 2 Error loading BMAG Download Xref Tables - bmag.dtsx: Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.ComponentVersionMismatchException: The version of component "DataReader Source" (1113) is not compatible with this version of the DataFlow. I have a package which reads an Access file from a folder. My connection manager to this file is .NET providers for OledbMicrosoft Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider.
Package works from my computer. But when I execute it on the server as a SQL Agent job, I get

I copied the mdb file to a folder on the server which my packages have no problem reading data from.
My packages run under the same domain account as defined in proxies.

Do I Want The Developer Version?
Apr 3, 2006I've downloaded 2005 Express but I want to do SSIS and don't see any way to do that with Express. The Developer Edition apparently has all features, but says you can upgrade to Enterprise, which I don't need (Standard would probably be fine).
Here are my questions:
1) Is there any way to develop SSIS packages in Developer and run them in Express?
2) Is it possible to upgrade Developer to something less than Enterprise, such as Workgroup or Standard?
3) This page is titled "How to Obtain SQL Server 2005 Developer Ediiton" but doesn't explain how to obtain it. Instead it talks about which edition to select, trial software, blah blah:

Are there any catches or preconditions to buying Developer, or is it just a simple $50 (or less, depending on where you buy it)? I want to explore more 2005 features than Express offers but I don't want a trial version that will expire.

We recently upgraded from sql 2000 to sql server 2005. Our system was developed using Microsoft visual Basic.
Since we upgraded to sql server 2005 our system has been very slow. I suspect that it was because of the new sql 2005 installation that i made.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem for me to be able to increase the perfomance speeed of our system again.
It has been stressing me for a while now.

Oct 11, 2006hello we want to evaluate TS foundation server but it says it won't support developer edition sql, only sql2k5 stanard. But now we have DEVELOPER version on our development sql server, DEVDATA1, i.e. instances DEVDATA1DEV, and DEVDATA1QA are both installed on the same sql server box with both SP1 applied.
How can we update DEVDATA1QA to Standard version while still have SP1 applied? we just install Standard CD and then apply SP1 again?
Because this instance is our QA version, before we do something silly, if any of you did that before, any advice would be really helpful.

I have the management tool on the machine that has VS 2005 but when I try to connect to SQL server I get an error. 'A connectiopn was established with the server but an error occurred during the pre-login handshake. This failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings sQL server does not allow rempte connections (provider:named PipesProvider, err=0)
I would like to store the data on the server on a different machine -- can this be done using the home/small office network?

I just installed my VS 2005 Pro (full installation) and it installed Sql Server Express 2005. I also have a CD for Sql Server 2005 Developer Edition which I have not installed yet. My need for Sql Server on my development machine is for building and testing apps - just myself - no users will be hitting my sql server on my PC. Most of the time I hit my web server's sql server but also want the engine on my PC for when I'm offline.
Question: Should I install the developer edition and remove sql server express? Doesn't the developer edition more closely emulate the full-blown sql server, just that it only allows one or a few users to hit for development and testing purposes? At the same time, sql server express is scalled back in that it doesn't have all the goodies?

Oct 13, 2006Yes I am a newby (or is that newbie) and this is my first post.My Visual Web Developer site work really well on my PC, I read the books took it slowly, created logins and sql tables and then found a good hosting company with Server 2005 ... I though I was one step away from the road to success ... then I hit the big brick wall. Spent hours on Google trying to find some answers without joy ... all I found were lots of users with the same or similar problems ... and some answers that caused more problems !1) Please can someone give my a 'step by step' idiots guide on how to convert my ASPNETDB.MDF content to run on Server 2005. I have Server Management Studio so I am happy about loading the translated files but I don't understand how to break them down into tables and logs.2) Once the files are across can I run a connection string from VWD directly to the tables on the server instead of SQL local ? I assume that is set in web.config !!.... normally I am happy to learn by trial and error. But I can't get around or over this brick wall.Welcome assistance, advice or a ladder ... with simple instructions ?

Notification Services Command PromptSQL Server Configuration ManagerSQL Server Error and Usage ReportingSQL Server Surface Area Configuration
The are a whole bunch of other programs inside the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 folder that are missing. How do I add those services or program such as the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio?
