while installing SQL SERVER 2005 Express edition, I got the error below:
ITEM NAME VALUE
Link ID 20476
PRODUCT Name Microsoft SQL Server
Product Version 9.00.3042.00
Message Source setup.rll
Message ID 29503
EvtType sqlsetuplibservice.cpp@Do_sqlScrip
The installation always goes thru till the last stage of installing Database Service, while on configuring the Database engine, the error mesage will flag that Installation failed, the server could not be started.
following "help" suggestions, i tried to start the server manually thru command prompt but it never recognise the command as an internal command.
a close observation of the C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQL file system reveals that the "Binn" and other folders were not there. I was able to notice this when i installed it on my system in the house.
what could be the problem and most importantly, the solution
I received the following error when installing SQL Server 2005: The setup has encountered an unexpected error while Installing performance counters. The error is: -1073741790
I have tried everything. The installation keeps failing and it seems to be a problem with WMI. Here is my installation summary and the error part of my wmidiag report. Can some one please help.

I'm a student and need this to work for projects. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I first attempted to install SQL Server 2005 with the management tools, SQL server services installed ok but the management tools did not install. I tried to re-install the management tools but the setup program thought that they were already installed. I then un-installed everything in Add/Remove programs, & rebooted. I then tried to install again but this time it thought that the SQL server services were already installed. I removed the services from the registry and rebooted again. Now when I try to install SQL Server 2005 it simply fails
The last message in the log is "Note: 1: 1708 MSI (s) (A0:6C) [15:34:23:656]: Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 -- Installation failed"
Any help would be appreciated

I'm trying in vain to upgrade sql server 2000 to 2005 with great headache and pain.
I (finally) have removed all Beta, and other incompatible version of .NET, Visual Studio and any other offending components, and made it to the first page of the install shield.
The .NET 2.0 components installed fine - but I get a fatal error trying to install the SQL Server Set Support Files.
I do have a log file - and have tired searching on the various error codes in it, but am coming up blank. Please advise - this is taking forever!
sample of error msgs in log file:

When I install the SQL Server 2005 SP2 on my vista laptop, I get the following message: SQL server setup failed to compile te Managed Object Format (MOF) file c:program filesmicrosoft SQL Server90sharedsqlmgmproviderxpsp2up.mof. I was trying to install SQL Server 2005 on Windows 2003 Server and it failed on installing one of the components "SQL native Client",
the Error message is
The Installation Package of the Product Microsoft SQL Server Native Client cana not be found. Try the Installation again using the Valid copy of the installtion package "sqlncli.msi"
My story is a bit of similar to some of the fellows. During the default installation, it failed at the last section which is "SQL server database service" because it cannot start the SQL service.
The difference of my story is this is not the first time I install it on my computer or any upgrade from whatever other version. I'd installed it for a couple of weeks working perfectly before my computer seemingly infected by an adware. Since then SQL Server stopped working, then I decided to re-install it after I had the adware removed.
So it shouldn't be the limitation of either CPU or memory, I think. I hope I could get an answer to it before I have to re-install the whole OS, PAINFULLY.
I have Windows XP Home Edition SP2 English Version. I installed MS SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition and after reboot I Installed SP 1. Now I try to install SP2 CTP November 2006. In Installation Progress dialog when Setup Support Files are in progress I get an error message - Unexpected Error Occured Unable to create backup folder and show me second message box with error Hotfix.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.
I can't install Sql Server Express with Analysys Service SP2 (KB 921896) from Windows Update because, after the download, the installation couldn't be completed. The error code is: 0x6DDE.
I have been trying to install MSDE for a week. An appraisal program I need to set up uses it. I have been running changes and believe that I am close.

I did not find anything different in a setup on a laptop that works. I'm unsure where to look.
when i install sql server 2005 in cluster. I have error at Setup process screen --> the selected components are being configured.all the components are failed.I am using domain account with administrator account privilege on both server.OS : windows server 2008 on virtual machine..when i install sql server agent is enable to select during setup..
Hi, we have 2 servers (Windows 2003 R2) in a cluster. All clustering requirements have been setup, so the next step is to install the SQL 2005 cluster.
However, during installation, we encounter problem. Some of the services failed to install. Afterwards, we tried to re-install, but we encounter unexpected error. Then we tried to uninstall, we also encounter unexpected error.
We already tried to follow KB 909967. Using ARPWrapper gives the same error as the one from Add-Remove Program, with a pop-up:
There was an unexpected failure during the setup wizard. You may review the setup logs and/or click the help button for more information.
So, we go to the "If you experience problem" section, where we try to uninstall the items one by one. The first one we found is Analysis Services, and when we try to uninstall it, we encounter this problem:
Error 29527. The setup has encountered an unexpected error in datastore. The action is RestoreSetupParams. The error is : Source File Name: datastorecachedpropertycollection.cppCompiler Timestamp: Fri Jul 29 01:13:49 2005 Function Name: CachedPropertyCollection::findPropertySource Line Number: 130----------------------------------------------------------Failed to find property "OwningGroup" {"VirtualServerInfo", "", "NAME"} in cache Source File Name: datastoreclusterinfocollector.cpp Compiler Timestamp: Fri Sep 16 13:20:12 2005 Function Name: ClusterInfoCollector::collectClusterVSInfo Source Line Number: 883 ---------------------------------------------------------- Failed to detect VS info due to datastore exception. So, now we are stuck. We can not re-install because the uninstallation step fails. Really need your help.
I am trying to install a clean copy of SQL 2005 onto this server. It goes along fine until installing the "SQL Server Database Services" when I then get:
SQL Server Setup could not connect to the database service for server configuration. The error was: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server] Login failed for user 'sa'. Refer to server logs and setup logs for more information. For details on how to view setup logs, see "How to View Setup Log Files" in SQL Server Books Online.
There did used to be SQL installed on this server, but we un-installed it. What do I need to do now to install a fresh copy of SQL?
We have server with Sql2008 R2 RTM 64 bit standard edition. We installed 2012 sp1 64 bit standard edition in win2012sp1 64 bit as side by side setup. After installation, i found the below error when i opened SSCM:

During the installation of Adding node to a SQL Server failover cluster(On passive node) getting error like.. The MOF compiler could not connect with the WMI server. This is either because of a semantic error such as an incompatibility with the existing WMI repository or an actual error such as the failure of the WMI server to start. We  run the below commands but didn’t get any resolution & got the same above error .  1st Method…
1. Open console command (Run->CMD with administrator privileges).Â
2. net stop winmgmtÂ
3. Rename folder %windir%System32WbemRepository to other one, for backup purposes (for example _Repository).Â
4. net start winmgmt

Many a times see the below error in SQL Error log.
Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON'. Reason: Token-based server access validation failed with an infrastructure error. Check for previous errors. [CLIENT: ]
Is this something to do here?
Note: If I run the below statement I know that the SQL Error log entry will go off, but wanted to know the real significance of this error?
CREATE LOGIN [NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON] FROM WINDOWS
I am administering several SQL Servers running SQL Server 2005 SP2 Build 3042. I have a common maintenance plan that runs on each of the servers. The maintenance plan runs fine on all the servers except for one. On the one server the Database Integrity check fails with the following error:
Check Database integrity on Local server connection Databases: <list of databases> Include indexes Task start: 2008-02-21T00:05:42. Task end: 2008-02-21T00:05:46. Failed0) Alter failed for Server €˜XYZ€™
I created a test maintenance plan to just do the integrity check and selected one database only and this also failed with the same error message. I ran this test maintenance plan and configured it for each of the databases in question and it failed each time. If I run the DBCC manually against the databases they all report fine.
I read some of the post that talked about the €œAllow Updates€? being set incorrectly but that does not apply to my problem since my configured and run values are set to 0.
The 6:th of march Sql server data tools for Visual Studio 2012 was released.

I seem to be unable to install this using the link provided on the blog page. I'm getting a "Same architecture installation" error. Running on the machine is Visual Studio 2012 Premium & Sql Server 2012 (64bit).

Please help,I am trying to install MSDE 2000 so that Backup exec will run on thisserver. I have gotten so far as to find an entry in my SQLSTP.TXT filethat says that c:mssql7 was detected so the install fails. Now, to start with there is no directory called C:mssql7 on thisserver. I have gone through all MS articles on manual removal of SQLserver and instances. I get an error when trying to install the SQL Native Client. It says it cannot find the installation package and to use a valid copy of 'sqlncli.msi'. I've downloaded the Express setup twice and get the same error from both of them.
I'm attempting this in a VMWare session setup for Windows 2K, Advanced Server. I am trying to test my installation and setup procedures. This is not a production setup, just install testing and documentation. I have allocated only 272MB to the VMWare session, which is why the system doesn't meet the recommended settings.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Below is the Summary.txt output file.

Hi Guys, I have had SQL Server Express and Sql Server Management Studio Express installed on my machine for some time and recently tried to install a trial of SQL Server 2005 as well. (Yes, I'm migrating from Visual Studio Express to Visual Studio Professional, just as in tended!) Everything went fine except that nothing seemed to be installed. I searched in all the obvious places - both on the Start/Programs menu and on the hard-drive: nothing. A check under Add/Remove Programs showed that Sql Server 2005 Express was installed, but called SQL Server 2005. So after a number of retries in which the install program kept saying that there was nothing to install, I selected every option under Advanced in the intall process. This resulted in stuff being installed and I now have SQL Server 2005 running on my machine, but no SQL Server Manager icon. My questions are:
Where can I find the SQL Server Manager executeable? Has anyone installed SQL Server Express, SQL Server Mangement Studio Express, SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server Management Studio on a single machine successfully? If so, what order did you install them in? (I'm planning on uninstalling everything SXQL Server related and starting again.) Thanks very much for your help. Regards Gary
I am using SQL Express 2005 server and sql compact edition for my PDA. For synchronization, which SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition Server Tools installation package do I use?
Is it Sqlce30setupen.msi or sql2kensp4.msi or sql2kensp3a.msi? I know for sql server 2005 its Sqlce30setupen.msi. Is it the same for the SQL Express 2005?
i am facing problem in the installation of SQL Server 2005. I am installing sql server 2005 on Windows Server 2003 with SP1. When I start the setup error occurs. It says, Microsoft Windows Installer 3.0 is not installed. I think Windows Installer comes with windows server 2003. what should i do now..
I am new to this sql server thing. And for last couple of days i m trying to figure out whether we can install sql server 2000 ent edition in a server after installing or upgrading sql server 2005 from (sql server 2000) . As sql server 2005 is know to exist side by side with earlier sql server versions .
And coming to the problem which i m facing is , I have installed sql server 2005 ent in windows 2000 server in which sql server 2000 is residing.Later when i observerd i realised that actually i have upgraded 2000 to sql 2005 server (which i hav done after consulting many people). As a result few of the client systems which were running sql server personal edition were unable to access their data from the database. For temporary relief i have installed sql server 2005 express edition plus management studio in the client systems . The doubts which i am having are
1) what happens if i uninstall sql server 2005 2) Is it possible to install sql server 2000 ent edition now to work along with sql server 2005
thanks in advance .....waiting for your quick replies ..any idea's
