Cannot Find Columns From A Stored Procedure...
Jul 21, 2007I have an application that I inherited, and I have a annoying problem. We're using stored procedures to return most of our data, and occasionally we receive errors stating that a particular column cannot be found in the resulting data table. When I run the stored procedure against SQL Server I receive the expected output. What would make this random act happen, any ideas?
Also, I keep receiving errors stating that a connection is already open and needs to be closed before an action to the database is performed. I'm explicitly closing each connection in a finally block for every method in my data access code, so a connection should always be closed, right?

Mar 29, 2008Hi - I'm short of SQL experience and hacking my way through creating a simple search feature for a personal project. I would be very grateful if anyone could help me out with writing a stored procedure. Problem: I have two tables with three columns indexed for full-text search. So far I have been able to successfully execute the following query returning matching row ids: dbo.Search_Articles @searchText varchar(150) AS SELECT ArticleID FROM articles WHERE CONTAINS(Description, @searchText) OR CONTAINS(Title, @searchText) UNION SELECT ArticleID FROM article_pages WHERE CONTAINS(Text, @searchText); RETURN This returns the ArticleID for any articles or article_pages records where there is a text match. I ultimately need the stored procedure to return all columns from the articles table for matches and not just the StoryID. Seems like maybe I should try using some kind of JOIN on the result of the UNION above and the articles table? But I have so far been unable to figure out how to do this as I can't seem to declare a name for the result table of the UNION above. Perhaps there is another more eloquent solution? Thanks! Peter

When Station = 'D_CC' then Cycle_Index suppose to start a new cycle. So my problem is trying to find the next 'D_CC' and store the incremental cycle # in a New_Cycle column.

Sorry to confuse you by changing the text color!
Case when Station = 'D_CC' then Cycle_Index = Cycle_Index + 1; based on the prior cycle # and continuos to find next 'D_CC' until the end; regardles whatever in between the prior D_CC to next D_CC.
Bottom line is searching the next value from Station = D_CC then cycle # in Cycle_Index column need to be incremented by 1 and stored the new cycle # in New_Cycle column as the actual cycle.

I think there may be a bug in V2.0 (2005) that did not exist in V1.0:
Have just started cutting over my V1.0 reports to V2.0 (2005). One of my users today showed me that the "Find" feature within a V2.0 report searches forward fine. In one case, a three page report, it found the first item on the third page. However, when the "Find" feature was used from that point to get something on the first page, a message was received that it could not find the item. After manually navigating back to page one, and re-entering the same data in "Find" from there, it found the data with no problem on page one.
Has anyone else seen this behavior?

I could not figure out the way to implement it although i know full text search is a good choice.I have following table adapterGetProducts(); GetProductsByManufacturerName(); GetProductsByManufacturerID(), and GetProductsByUPCCode();Product table contains UPCCode, Description, Size columnsBut i need to get the product which returns the description containing search query. I have set the Full-Text to all the columns. For searching i wrote the below query
SELECT * FROM <TABLE NAME> WHERE CONTAINS(*,'"SQL Server-Part1"')
My Result expectation is: The First Record should come. But the result of the query bring the two records. It see the "SQL Server" string also. I need to find the exact word. How to do it? Please answer me as soon as possible. Ganesh.

Full Text Search Doesn't Find A Specific String

We have a table that is full text enabled and it is working fine, but the full text search doesn't returns any record for the following case
select * from let_catalog_search where contains(search_field,'"Bulk Process 1*"')
even though there exist records that satisfy the condition in the table,
the record that i am talking abt is "bulk process 1 with price bp100-ilt1-00200136 bp100-ilt1"
If I remove the last 1 from the search string i get lot of records, Can anybody help me out.

I have a table with 9 fields that I need to check. I want to check if "text1" and "text2" is in any of thoose 9 fields. But I dont want to check the combination of "text1" and "text2" in the same column. I want for example be able to check if "text1" is in column 1 to 9 and if "text2" is in column 1 to 9. Is it possible to put a set of columns into a select statement using "in"
For example:
select count(*) from table1 where (col1, col2, col3, col4) in (select a.col1, a.col2, a.col3, a.col4 from table1 a where........)
This is possible in this form for Oracle and DB2 but I cannot get it to work in Sql Server.
Any ideas?
